Retrieving specific information from extensive scientific documents presents a significant challenge. Existing information retrieval methods often focus on entire documents, even when only a small portion of a document is relevant. Also, achieving a balance between precise retrieval and optimal time complexity remains a persistent challenge. To address these issues, we propose TD-CRESTS (Top-Down Chunk Retrieval based on Entity, Section, and Topic Selection), a term-based document text chunk retrieval method. TD-CRESTS utilizes a hierarchical context architecture, indexing documents according to topics, named entities, sections, and individual text chunks. Key terms from each context guide a top-down search strategy across the index context levels, prioritizing the most relevant contexts based on their overlap with the query. Our method achieves chunk-level F1-measure of 71% and 77.14% on the SciREX and DrugSemantics benchmark datasets, respectively. It is able to handle diverse domains and languages with a balance between information retrieval efficiency and effectiveness.

Software startups are responsible for fast product delivery to the market. To aid this process, a retrospective inside a startup team can be very fruitful for software development. The traditional way of conducting agile retrospectives involves discussion based on what went well, what did not go well, and how to improve the software development cycle helps to save resources, get directed toward the startup vision, and overcome several challenges. To attain insights about the agile retrospective approach in startups, we studied the following question: How are software startups performing agile retrospectives? Hence, we conducted seven multiple case studies with 19 semi-structured interviews that lasted 30-65 min. The results outline that all software startups prefer a reflection through agile retrospectives but not in the traditional manner. Due to the startup's casual and less restricted working environment, teams prefer informal agile retrospectives, which involve no confined boundaries of time, venue, and participants.

Requirements Engineering (RE) stands as the cornerstone in ensuring that a system comprehensively captures and analyzes the needs and expectations of its users and stakeholders. Despite the numerous approaches designed for dealing with functional and quality (nonfunctional) requirements, approaches for dealing with emotional requirements still lag. Emotional requirements capture how users should feel when using a system, and inadequate consideration of such requirements results in end-users reluctance to use the system. In this paper, we report on our experience in dealing with emotional requirements as part of an H2020 European Project, namely PHArA-ON (Pilots for Healthy and Active Ageing in Europe) for the development of the PHArA-ON ecosystem that aims at improving the well-being and active aging of older adults. Specifically, we present the process we followed for dealing with emotional requirements, and we summarize the findings and lessons learned from this experience.

The vast Medical information Mart for Intensive Care (MIMIC IV) dataset offers a goldmine for process mining in healthcare, yet traditional approaches often struggle with complex object interactions like patients, medications, and diagnoses. Object Centric Process Mining (OCPM) unlocks deeper insights into patient care, leading to improved coordination, resource allocation, and ultimately, better patient outcomes. This work explores how OCPM overcomes these limitations. By analyzing data flow within the MIMIC IV dataset through an OCPM lens, we illuminate intricate relationships between objects across clinical processes like heart patient or medication administration. By leveraging OCPM on MIMIC IV data, this study offers a novel perspective on emergency department processes of healthcare. We propose a method that leverages the inherent structure of MIMIC IV to directly extract relevant objects, visualizing the convergence and divergence picture and their relationships, bypassing the traditional conversion from XES to OCEL. Our approach focuses on key clinical entities like patients, hospitals admission, and transfer of patients across various departments in hospitals to construct an Object Centric Event Log (OCEL) that captures patient journeys within the hospital system. This direct object-centric approach aims to streamline the process discovery phase and potentially unlock new insights into patient flow patterns and clinical care pathways.

This article explores the integration of innovative data-driven technologies into digital governance at the local level, with a focus on open data, smart cities, and public sector data analytics and processing. Governments globally strive for digital transformation with emerging technologies, and data play a crucial role in improving service delivery and decision-making processes at the local level. However, there needs to be a proper debate about data analytics and data science in the public sector and the crucial aspects of smart cities' interoperability and open data governance. This research aims to fill this gap, proposing a systematic approach to connect and link these innovations, promoting interoperability and data governance at the local level. Based on a multi-method literature analysis, including Portugal's remarkable digitalization journey, this study sheds light on the importance of comprehensive data analytics in the public sector. The findings indicate that the existing debate on data analytics in the public sector needs more depth and synergy from the point of view of data analytics techniques. By presenting propositions on the challenges for interoperability and open data governance of smart cities, this article provides valuable information for policymakers, decision-makers, and implementers looking for solutions to governance challenges at the local level.

In this paper, we present an enhanced BERT methodology for sentiment classification of a Tunisian corpus. We introduce a Tunisian optimized BERT model, named TunRoBERTa, which surpasses the performance of Multilingual-BERT, CNN, CNN combined with LSTM, and RoBERTa. Additionally, we incorporate TunRoBERTa as an embedding technique with Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN). The experimental results demonstrate that the combination of TunRoBERTa and CNN yields the highest performance compared to the previous models. Our findings outperform Multilingual-BERT, CNN, and CNN combined with LSTM.

In agile software development, maintaining high-quality user stories is crucial, but also challenging. This study explores the application of large language models (LLMs) to improve the quality of user stories within the agile teams of Austrian Post Group IT. We developed an Autonomous LLM-based Agent System (ALAS) and evaluated its impact on user story quality with 11 participants from six agile teams. Our findings reveal the potential of LLMs in improving user story quality, provide a practical example, and lay the foundation for future research into the broad application of LLMs in a variety of industry settings.

In this study, we examine how event data from campus management systems can be used to analyze the study paths of higher education students. The main goal is to offer valuable guidance for their study planning. We employ process and data mining techniques to explore the impact of sequences of taken courses on academic success. Through the use of decision tree models, we generate data-driven recommendations in the form of rules for study planning and compare them to the recommended study plan. The evaluation focuses on RWTH Aachen University computer science bachelor program students and demonstrates that the proposed course sequence features effectively explain academic performance measures. Furthermore, the findings suggest avenues for developing more adaptable study plans.

The aim of business-IT alignment in today's fast-changing digital world is not to arrive at an endpoint where IT and business are aligned, but to continuously adjust them to maintain alignment. In spite of decades of alignment research, concrete operational methods for continuous alignment between business and IT remain lacking. Therefore, we set out to design an easy-to-use and lightweight method for planning the co-evolution of business and IT that would help to address modern alignment challenges. We designed our planning method using the Design Science Research approach. This involved conducting exploratory interviews to surface common alignment challenges, reviewing existing strategy and planning instruments, expanding upon them, and integrating them into one single planning process. We then evaluated the designed method through pilots in an educational setting and through semi-structured confirmatory expert interviews where we employed the technology acceptance model. Through interviews with 16 practitioners in six different organisations, we surfaced nine major categories of alignment challenges. Method design resulted in a 5-step process for collaboratively creating, sharing, and monitoring so-called evolution plans, complete with templates, a manual, and an instructive example. The educational pilots and expert interviews confirmed the usability and acceptability of the method. Our co-evolution planning method complements existing, theoretical alignment research results with a concrete operational instrument that addresses alignment challenges commonly encountered across organisations.
