Cities experiencing rapid urbanisation and technological innovations face multifaceted challenges in demographics, economics, society, and the environment. To address these challenges and ensure sustainable development, the concept of "digital governments" has emerged, leveraging information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). However, these technocratic approaches lack a citizen-centric focus, potentially widening the digital divide among city residents. Consequently, there has been a shift from "digital government" to "digital governance," emphasising collaboration among key stakeholders and utilisation of ICT to promote public value. The potential of digital governance lies in supporting city learning, wherein a city learns as an innovation ecosystem for its sustainable citizen-centric development and innovation. There is a lack of focus on how ICT can support city learning as an innovation ecosystem. Based on the Design Science Research Method, this study describes our research-in-progress in designing and developing a suitable ICT platform design, which focuses on citizen engagement and participation to support city learning for transforming cities towards sustainable citizen-centric smart cities. Using service blueprints, we illustrate the services that need to be supported by an ICT platform to support city learning.

Language differences are major barrier to the dissemination of information between patients and health workers in the Southwestern part of Nigeria. Developing a system that would assist an individual to explain their health issues in their preferred language using mobile devices is a spot for concern to effective communication. This idea will promote and achieve good health for all which is the NO 3 of the seventeen sustainable development goals (SDGs) adopted by the general assembly of the United Nations. The authors have developed an inclusive mobile health application that would translate English text to Yoruba text using a direct rule-based machine translation approach. Production rules based on English sentence structure were formulated using context-free grammar and a dictionary data set containing English words and their Yoruba language equivalent was also adopted. The system development was achieved with Java programming, Extensible Markup language (XML), and Mongo DB. The new system (RTCHAT) was developed and its translation result was compared with Google Translate. One hundred (100) translated sentences used in the new application (RTCHAT) were extracted and given to Yoruba linguistics to identify correctly, partially, and wrongly translated sentences. The result was compared with google translate of the same group of sentences and the result shows that eleven (11) sentences were correctly translated in Google translate and eighty-nine (89) in RTCHAT, ten (10) were partially translated in RTCHAT and thirteen (13) in Google translate and finally, seventy-two (72) sentences were wrongly translated in Google and three (3) in RTCHAT. Performance of the new system (RTCHAT) was tested at Rufus Giwa Polytechnic (Nigeria) community and the result shows a high percentage of performance and ratability.

Process mining is a family of techniques that provide tools for gaining insights from processes in, for example, business, industrial, healthcare and administrative settings. Process discovery, as a field of process mining, aims to give a process model that describes a process given by an event log. A process model describes an underlying process well if it contains all behavior relevant (fitness) and if it does not model behavior that is not contained in the event log (precision). The Inductive Miner (IM) family provides algorithms to find process models on complex event logs efficiently and in an easy-to-understand process model representation using process trees. Due to its characteristics, the IM family is one of the state-of-the-art discovery algorithms and is implemented in software of market-leading process mining vendors. Nevertheless, process trees and in particular those discovered by the IM can have imprecise parts. In this work, we combine existing work and present an approach that replaces such parts with more precise parts while preserving fitness. In addition, we demonstrate the frameworks applicability and utilization by improving process trees discovered by the IM, using the IM itself. Further, guarantees on the preservation of fitness and precision are given. Our experiments clearly show that our techniques can be applied to real-life event logs and that they lead to an improvement in precision.

Querying massive and heterogeneous text data is challenging, transcending different business domains. Our study outlines the BigQA architecture, which is specifically designed to support text data queries on Big Data systems using natural language. The architectural design comprises several layers that are intentionally built to be independent of the programming language, technology, and querying algorithm utilized. Nevertheless, the implementation of this architecture remains unclear. In this study, we showcase the versatility and adaptability of BigQA by offering a comprehensive set of guidelines and three practical implementation pipelines. In addition, we performed 60 experiments on four different datasets and compared the recall results of three popular algorithms: BM25, TF-IDF, and DPR. Based on our experiments, BM25 had the best overall performance as a document query algorithm.

Object-centric event data represent processes from the point of view of all the involved object types. This perspective has gained interest in recent years as it supports the analysis of processes that previously could not be adequately captured, due to the lack of a clear case notion as well as an increasing amount of output data that needs to be stored. Although publicly available event logs are crucial artifacts for researchers to develop and evaluate novel process mining techniques, the currently available object-centric event logs have limitations in this regard. Specifically, they mainly focus on control-flow and rarely contain objects with attributes that change over time, even though this is not realistic, as the attribute values of objects can be altered during their lifecycle. This paper addresses this gap by providing two means of establishing object-centric datasets with dynamically evolving attributes. First, we provide event log generators, which allow researchers to generate customized, artificial logs with dynamic attributes in the recently proposed DOCEL format. Second, we propose and evaluate an algorithm to convert OCEL logs into DOCEL logs, which involves the detection of event attributes that capture evolving object information and the creation of dynamic attributes from these. Through these contributions, this paper supports the advancement of object-centric process analysis by providing researchers with new means to obtain relevant data to use during the development of new techniques.

Nonnegative tensor factorization (NTF) plays a crucial role in extracting latent factors and predicting future sales from purchase data consisting of user and item attributes. However, the increase in these attributes leads to tensor data becoming sparse, causing a reduction in decomposition accuracy. For example, when there are numerous combinations of unavailable item genres and prices, the purchase history data becomes sparse and follows a distribution where all its elements are zero. To address this issue, we propose a novel NTF method assuming zero-inflated Poisson (ZIP) distribution based on Expectation-Maximization (EM) algorithm. This enables us to effectively handle sparsity in high-dimensional multiway data and identify combinations of user and item attributes that are potentially not likely to be purchased. We verified the effectiveness of the proposed approach through numerical experiments using real-world e-commerce data. The results showed our proposed ZIP model outperforms existing methods in both in-sample and out-of-sample experiments. Moreover, the proposed method qualitatively demonstrated the effectiveness of handling sparsity.

We propose a holistic design approach that extends a traditional Model Driven Architecture paradigm with the bottom-up constraint analysis and propagation. We define a Unified Feature Model that represents the organizational goals and the technical properties of the solution, and use model-checking to reason about the constraints that arise from their interplay. In the illustrative example, we show how the technical decisions specified in a Feature Model can be formalized, validated, and translated into strategic limits of a Goal Model for further redesign of both business and technical enterprise models.

The data-driven execution of object-centric processes in information systems requires powerful access control concepts that allow controlling, for example, which attributes of a business object a particular user (role) may read or write at a given point in time during process execution. In practice, it is crucial to be able to check whether the implementation of a fine-grained access control in an information system (i.e., the actual permissions) conforms with corporate requirements (e.g., compliance and security rules). If the execution of business processes is recorded in an event log, the actual access data can be compared with the specified permissions. Such a permission analysis includes the identification of both similarities and discrepancies between corporate requirements and actual implementation. This paper presents an approach for identifying, comparing, analyzing, evaluating, and classifying permissions in object-centric processes based on event logs.

Despite the availability of metrics and measurement tools, the lack of formal models and standardization concerning product lifecycle information poses a challenge in assessing how sustainable the supply chain operations of a company are. Digital Product Passports (DPPs) emerge as a promising solution to track and ensure accurate product information is maintained throughout the whole product lifecycle. DPPs are digital representations of the accumulated information of a particular product from its inception to end-of-life. We investigated the topic from the perspective of a large European manufacturer, examining how different phases of the product lifecycle can be supported by static and dynamic data at different levels of granularity. As a result of our research, we propose a reference architecture that supports the development of DPPs with emphasis on product components at batch level granularity. The validation of the proposed architecture shows that the approach provides an opportunity for manufacturers to address sustainability issues in resource-intensive manufacturing supply chains while actively reusing legacy infrastructure.

This paper proposes to study the management of tacit knowledge within extended enterprises and particularly multinational technology corporations, i.e., companies working on digital software and Internet-related services with a presence in more than one state. Indeed, due to the particular nature of tacit knowledge, human behaviors deployed to share it or on the contrary to retain it are of particular interest in that kind of organizations with not only an international cultural context, but also a highly digital environment. We argue that tacit knowledge management within organizations can be improved if we better understand practices, habits, and behaviors when arises to employees the question of "Should I Share or Should I Go?". In this paper we present a study involving a sample of 88 participants who expressed their tacit knowledge behaviors as employees working in a multinational technology corporation. We identified trends on the importance of tacit knowledge as well as on the role of management and technology in sharing behaviors. Particularly, we observed that the presence of established procedures does not imply positive tacit knowledge sharing behaviors. We finally conclude by sketching future research directions on the observation of this phenomenon.
