Cyber-physical systems embedded in various areas connected to the internet generate unprecedented volumes of data. Humans frequently interact with these systems, thus allowing companies to analyze the data and gain valuable insights into user-product interactions. To analyze the underlying behavior recorded in data, process-mining techniques can be used. However, to apply process mining, the low-level measurements have to be transformed into an event log. In this work, we analyze enriched and transformed connected-vehicle data dealing with an assistance system using process-mining techniques. We analyze the time spent in states of the system, compare behavior between different models using Kruskal-Wallis' and Dunn's test, and discover reasons for state switching. We demonstrate how companies can apply process mining on data collected by internet-of-things devices to understand the usage, ratify system requirements, and develop their products.

The increasing significance of social and environmental impact within the technology startup business sector has garnered attention. Previous research has explored impact investing and related themes in the startup context. However, despite the growing interest in this area, a noticeable gap exists in research addressing impact investing ecosystems (IIE) and ecosystem-related challenges and advantages specifically within the technology field. This study endeavors to fill this gap by examining organizations within the Finnish IIE, bridging the divide between current industry practices and academic research. This study employed an interview-based approach, featuring thirteen interviewees representing eleven participating organizations. These interviews followed a semi-structured format, with all interviewees holding roles closely linked to the technology startup context within the Finnish IIE. Utilizing the thematic synthesis approach, this research aims to elucidate the perceived challenges faced by technology startups operating within the IIE. The findings of this study underscore the diversity and multiplicity of challenges confronting startups within the IIE, spanning various functions and operations, as well as the existing financial structures. Furthermore, this study puts forth recommendations formitigating these perceived challenges and suggests potential avenues for future research within this domain.

Virtual reality (VR) sports have become a new phenomenon in sports. We have witnessed an increase in VR sports among individual participants in their casual lives during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. However, there is a lack of a deep understanding of the user experience in VR sports usage in casual life at the individual participant level. To address the above research gap, this research explores the user experience of VR sports based on a uses and gratifications perspective via interviews among twelve VR sports users. The present research provides a deep understanding of the user experience of VR sports usage by identifying four gratifications in VR sports usage that meet users' psychological needs. The four gratifications are hedonic gratification, utilitarian gratification, technology gratification, and social gratification.

Nowadays artificial intelligence (AI) has been widely used in the healthcare industry. AI can provide improved healthcare services by advancing technologies and individuals expect AI's human-like responses. This study aims to understand how the perceived humanness of AI influences individuals' use intention of AI in health consultations. In view of the influencing mechanism model, this study carries out an in-depth study. This study develops a model to explore the relationship among perceived humanness, AI use intention, perceived values (utilitarian value and hedonic value), and perceived risk (PR). Meanwhile, it tests the mediating roles of perceived values and perceived risk on the relationship between perceived humanness and AI use intention. 275 university students were involved in this study. Results show that perceived utilitarian value and perceived hedonic value fully mediate the relationship, while perceived risk could not showa significant effect. This study shows evidence of why designing AI with perceived humanness increases users' intention in health consultations.

Online reviews play pivotal roles in the dissemination of information and provide essential mechanisms for consumers to express opinions and make purchasing decisions. In recent years, review inconsistency as a peculiar phenomenon has triggered several challenges, including consumer confusion, the spread of misinformation, and a decline in market competitiveness, etc. To mitigate these effects of inconsistency, we investigate review inconsistency in two aspects, rating sentiment inconsistency and rating dispersion, and examine the different effects on product sales. In this paper, we employ the theoretical framework of HSM to develop an empirical model and collect 94,843 reviews from ***. The findings indicate that rating sentiment inconsistency exerts a negative impact on product sales. Conversely, rating dispersion has a positive effect on sales. Furthermore, rating dispersion and timeliness act as moderators, mitigating the negative impact of sentiment inconsistency on sales, while review richness intensifies this negative impact.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a disruptive technology that allows connecting physical objects with the digital world. This challenges organizations in adjusting their Enterprise Architecture (EA) for adopting the IoT technology to improve their operations andmaximize their value. Considering the complexity of such changes, a suitable modelling language must be used for EA design and documentation. ArchiMate, being a de facto standard for EA modelling, has already been used for modelling IoT systems, however, it is not used in a consistent manner and different extensions have been proposed to address limitations identified in specific domains. Based on the most common practices reported in the literature, we propose and evaluate a set of guidelines for modelling IoT elements in ArchiMate. The guidelines are evaluated by performing qualitative research based on case studies. The evaluation shows that ArchiMate is suitable for modelling IoT systems, but only at the conceptual level. When technical details are required, extensions to the standard may be needed. In addition, domain-specific limitations such as the lack of showing time-based communication and redundancy in an industry context are identified.

In the digital systems industry, there is a critical intersection between business process modeling and software engineering. This means that companies need to coordinate and align both business process models and conceptual models. However, responsibilities are often divided within the companies, with individuals having expertise in only one of these areas. This division makes the transition from business process models, typically represented as BPMN diagrams, to Conceptual Models, represented as UML Class Diagrams, a challenging task. The difficulty arises from the intrinsic differences between the two notations. This paper proposes an approach to address this problem by developing a software system that leverages the capabilities of OpenAI's ChatGPT to extract contextual information from BPMN diagrams and generate corresponding UML Class Diagrams. This approach provides a systematic method for transforming business process models into software-based conceptual models. Furthermore, it demonstrates the potential of Artificial Intelligence in automating the complex task of software engineering when combined with business process management.

The application of process mining algorithms to event logs requires the extraction of cases, describing end-to-end runs through the process. When extracting cases for object-centric event data, this extraction is often subject to convergence, divergence, and deficiency issues. Recently, connected-components extraction was proposed, extracting graph-based cases, called process executions, from the graph of event precedence constraints. This paper shows that only case extraction based on connected-components is free of convergence, divergence, and deficiency issues. This proof has several implications for future research in object-centric process mining. First, if a downstream process mining task is negatively affected by these quality issues, connected-components extraction is the only way to mitigate these. Second, additional requirements that would conflict with connected-components extraction would render the mitigation of quality issues infeasible, making trade-offs between quality issues necessary. Third, as traditional event logs are a special case of object-centric event logs and connected-components extraction is equivalent to the traditional case concept for a traditional event log, new extraction techniques, as well as object-centric adaptations of algorithms, should be backward-compatible.

Software startup companies operate under extreme conditions of uncertainty and with limited resources. These innovative companies face constant pressure to find a product-market fit, drive growth, and maintain competitive advantage. The nature of these companies makes them suitable candidates to practice analytics. Analytics can help software startups to use data in several ways e.g. make data-informed decisions, grow business, and provide value to users. However, startup founders tend to put off practicing analytics for a later time. In addition, the existing literature on startups does not provide paved paths to establish analytics in the context of startups. Therefore, to this end, we perform a gray literature review, to understand what startup practitioners say about analytics benefits and how can startups define analytics within their particular context. We utilized YouTube as a source of our data. After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria to 400 videos, we ended up analyzing 16 potentially relevant videos. We used thematic synthesis as well as quasi-statistics to analyze the data. Our results identify and report ten analytics benefits, and two key analytics practices to set up analytics in these competitive environments.

Methods are important in information system development (ISD), but skills and knowledge of the participants in the project matter as well. The paper focuses on projects in the business environment, and the part of ISD that bridges the gap between the social world of the business organisation and the formal world of software development. In the theoretical part, research is discussed from quite diverse disciplines. The common factor is that all theories are in some way related to the creating, presenting and developing of new structures that will change the social environment. A case is presented for an application and analysis of the theoretical concepts, paying special attention to the importance of managing differing worldviews and different kinds of knowledge in a project. The paper shows how a design process is a complex of multiple interdependent learning cycles (a concept from Soft Systems Methodology), where different knowledge domains and different kinds of knowledge are involved. Different kinds of artefacts are involved in the coordination between the different learning cycles. An important group of artefacts has a life cycle that start as an empty shell with a suggestive name, evolving in subsequent cycles into formally and fully specified IT concepts. In the transition from the social world of business to the formal world of IT, social skills and knowledge about human behaviour is crucial in information system development.
