This paper presents an approach for generate train driving plans using continuous Case-Based Planning (CBP). Each plan P is formed by a set of actions elaborated without human intervention which, when applied, can move a train in a stretch of railroad. The actions are planned due the reuse and sharing of past experiences, a complex due to the variations in the (i) weight, number of locomotives and railroad cars of the train, (ii) profiles of stretches travelled and (iii) environmental conditions. To overcome these difficulties, a driver a support system is provided to help in the conduction. Here, we distributed the main steps of the CBP among specialized agents with different roles: Planner, Executor and Case-Manager. Our approach was evaluated by different metrics: (i) accuracy of the case recovery task, (ii) efficiency of task adaptation and application of such cases in realistic scenarios and (iii) fuel consumption. We show that the inclusion of new experiences reduces the efforts of both the Planner and the Executor and the fuel consumption and allow the reuse of the obtained experiences in similar scenarios with low effort.

Accessing OWL ontologies from IT systems can bring many problems unfamiliar to developers used to the more common relational storage approach. These problems stem from the dynamic nature of ontologies, their open-world character and expressiveness. In this paper, we present the Java OWL Persistence API (JOPA), a persistence layer allowing object-oriented access to semantic web ontologies. It supports features like caching, transactional processing and a semantically clear contract between the ontology and the object model. In addition, we present the OntoDriver, a software layer decoupling storage access from the object-ontological mapping. We provide an in-depth theoretical complexity analysis of our approach in connection with an analysis and practical evaluation of the performance of ontological storage with regards to application access scenario.

Investing in cloud computing technology is one of the latest trends in IT. This is a multi criteria investment decision involving many stakeholders and a sequence of coordinated assessment activities that are strategic, qualitative (technical) and quantitative (financial) in nature. This paper integrates an information system (IS) success model with preference elicitation techniques drawn from the multi-criteria decision-making literature. We also show how this decision model can be extended as a vendor negotiation tool. Finally, we describe a prototype Decision Support System (DSS) featuring this model.

Major flood of the Loire (longest river in France) is the third feared natural disaster in France. As the Loire flows through major cities and that four nuclear plants are located on its banks, flooding risk increases the vulnerability of critical backbone infrastructures of the West area of France, such as road, energy and communication networks. Crisis response involves numerous and heterogeneous stakeholders, and their services, into a collaborative network to coordinate their actions. Moreover, effectiveness of the crisis response depends on the aforesaid backbone networks. To address these issues, the French funded project GeNePi aims to provide a Mediation information System to support the coordination of the stakeholders and to enhance data retrieval, information analysis and knowledge gathering among the responders. It will aggregate data collected from the field of operations into information and then filter and exploit this information into knowledge, usable for the decision makers.

Configurable process models have shown their usefulness for capturing the commonalities and variability within business processes. However, an end user will require an abstraction from the configurable process model, which is a highly technical artifact, to select a suitable configuration. Currently, the creation of such an abstraction requires considerable steps and technical knowledge. We provide an approach to construct such an abstraction automatically on the basis of an understanding of common concepts underlying process models on the one hand and automated analysis techniques on the other. Our approach also guarantees the consistency between the configuration choices of the end user. A positive yet preliminary evaluation with business users has been carried out to test the usability of our approach.

Recommendation systems are currently widely used in domains where abundance of choice is conjoined with its subjective nature (books, movies, trips, etc.). Most of the modern recommendation systems are centralized. Although the centralized recommendation system design has some significant advantages, it also bears two primary disadvantages: the necessity for users to share their preferences and a single point of failure. This paper follows user-centric approach to distributed recommendation system design, and proposes an architecture of a collaborative peer-to-peer recommendation system with limited preferences' disclosure. Privacy in the proposed design is provided by the fact that exact user preferences are never shared together with the user identity. To achieve that, the proposed architecture employs a locality-sensitive hashing of user preferences and an anonymized distributed hash table approach to peer-to-peer design.

Community governance needs a small group discussion among community people to identify their concerns, to share them each other and to generate better alternatives for solving problems. A planner should manage the discussion to achieve these objectives. This study analyzed the small group discussion in the community disaster risk management by using text mining. Correspondence analysis was applied to the text data of the discussion. Analytical results revealed the characteristics and effects of small group discussion.

Traditional workflow management systems are suited to automate well-structured processes based on a strict sequence of user tasks and a top-down approach to model creation. Such a conventional approach does not comply with the bottom-up philosophy of social software and therefore makes it difficult to incorporate its strengths in process modeling and automation. Opportunistic business Process Modeling (oBPM) aims to overcome these limitations by introducing a new paradigm for modeling and executing business processes that is both user-and document-centric, adequate for bottom-up modeling, agile process modification, opportunistic task scheduling and process mining.

As organizations are becoming more complex, Enterprise Architecture (EA) serves as an important means to align the strategy with the operations and to achieve business/IT (i.e., information Technology) alignment. Although numerous approaches have been designed for large enterprises, little EA research was oriented towards small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). However, both organizational types are fundamentally different and require a tailored approach. Therefore, CHOOSE was designed as an EA approach that is in accordance with the needs of SMEs. By performing a case study in the department of a large enterprise, this paper aims to investigate how CHOOSE can be used outside its original context. More specifically, it will be examined how the metamodel and modeling method could be extended to deliver an overview and valuable insights about a complex business reality. To realize this, potential solutions for the encountered issues are formulated and evaluated by the involved business stakeholders.

Capability management is expected to contribute to a new level of productivity in developing and deploying IT-based business services offered by digital enterprises to their customers. Work on capability management so far emphasizes the technology perspective of capability design and delivery. The paper addresses the question of what is the potential of capability management with respect to business model innovation by considering a case study from business process outsourcing as an example. The aim is to apply an established business model conceptualization as a framework for analyzing the case study and to compare the possibility of identifying business innovations with and without defined capability characteristics.
