To address recent calls for better regulatory compliance of business processes (electronic or not), this study synthesizes research findings of nine peer-reviewed systematic literature reviews and state-of-the-art studies on business process compliance to examine information Technology artifacts used in the compliance of business processes to laws and regulations. Results from the 342 unique studies covered by these reviews demonstrate that eight types of information Technology artifacts are used in the design, execution and after-execution lifecycle phases of regulatory compliance to perform compliance modeling, checking, analysis and enactment tasks. The results also demonstrate with statistical evidence that compliance enactment (which involves putting mechanisms in place to address changes in the compliance representations, business processes or regulatory requirements) has received the least attention. This is a worrisome situation given the dynamic environment in which businesses operate. We argue that the findings in this work are relevant toward understanding the current state of the domain, providing insights on what phases and tasks need improvement.

This paper describes MET4, a multi-agent system that supports interdisciplinary healthcare teams (IHTs) in executing patient care workflows. Using the concept of capability, the system facilitates the maintenance of an IHT and assignment of workflow tasks to the most appropriate team members. Moreover, following the principles of participatory medicine, MET4 facilitates involving the patient and her preferences in the management process. We describe conceptual foundations of the system and present the system design combining multi-agent and ontology-driven paradigms. Finally, we present a prototype implementation of MET4 and illustrate operations of the prototype using an example involving chronic pain management in palliative care.

Enterprises operate in dynamically changing environments that have an influence on both business and IT areas. Capabilities have been proposed as instruments to align business and IT in such environments. One aim of enterprise modelling is a better communication between the stakeholders of an enterprise at various levels. Thus, the alignment can be facilitated by the exploitation of enterprise models as an abstraction instrument. In this respective the paper analyses the methods for capability design and development from the enterprise modelling perspective by conducting a mapping study, i.e. the level of methodological support for capability modelling is investigated. For this purpose 112 journals and 24 conference proceedings were analysed. The most important findings are that the research in capability design (i) adopts empirical research, mostly in form of case studies and surveys (ii) is mainly motivated by Resource Based View (RBV) and changing environments (iii) proposes development approaches and frameworks as solution artefacts, (iv) lately receives attention in the information Systems Development & Tools of MIS subject classification lately, (v) provides a scarce methodological support that is mostly represented as procedures and most importantly (vi) only to some extent exploit enterprise models that could enhance stakeholder communication at various abstraction levels.

In this paper we analyze frameworks for mobile cross-platform development according to their influence on energy consumed by the developed applications. We consider the use of different smartphones sensors, e.g., GPS, accelerometer, etc., and features, e.g., acquiring video or audio from the environment. In particular, we have studied how the amount of required energy for the same operation changes according to the used framework. We use an hardware and software tool to measure energy consumed by the applications developed natively, as a web application or using two frameworks, Titanium and PhoneGap. Our experiments have shown that frameworks have a significant impact on energy consumption which greatly increases compared to an equal native application. Moreover, the amount of consumed energy is not the same for all frameworks.

This paper presents a business process management (BPM) system aimed at knowledge-based service organizations. The core activity of these organizations consists on the delivery of high-valued services tailored to each customer. When compared to product-based organizations, service organizations have more dynamic and diversified business portfolios and business processes, due to the need to adapt to evolving customer needs. The efficiency of business process management (BPM) solutions is widely recognised as far as high volume standardized processes are concerned, but the unsuitability of these systems to handle customizable service requests is also widely acknowledged. With this in mind, a new BPM platform, hereafter referred to as the soBPM platform, was designed and deployed. This platform is intended to offer a higher degree of flexibility, both at process design-time and process run-time. The platform implements a soft-automation process management approach that will be discussed in the first part of the paper. Then, the deployment of the platform at the Shared Service Center of a large University will be presented.

Process mining automatically generates process models from event logs. In multidimensional process mining, these models can be analyzed from various viewpoints by clustering event traces according to their attributes, e.g. age or region of the patient for a healthcare process. For each cluster, a distinct process model is calculated. Since these models are supposed to be identical in most parts, differences between them are hard to spot. Therefore, a tool for emphasizing these differences is needed. To face the different challenges presented by multidimensional process mining like the representational bias, such an approach has to be customizable to support different modeling languages and different layout and differencing algorithms. This paper presents a generic approach to calculate and visualize differences between process models which can be used to compare models in multidimensional process mining.

This study adapted and applied a traditional randori-style kata to a web programming class, in order to help undergraduate students improve their programming skills. The process in the traditional randori-style kata was modified to match to the nature of XML. The results indicated that the modified randori-style kata is an effective method for the programming course and the students to enhance their programming skills. The activity also helped the students to repetitively review and reapply theories and knowledge to programming problems. Significant progress in ontology engineering during the last decade resulted in a growing interest in using ontologies for industrial applications. This paper presents lessons learned and recommendations for ontology engineering projects with focus on industrial applications. The research is based on the analysis of a number of case studies in different industrial domains. The increasing rates of cyber-attacks have led to the subsequent need to rapidly develop secure information systems (IS). Secure Tropos is an actor and goal-oriented approach to identify security goals and to enable security requirements elicitation. This is achieved by considering system actors, their dependencies and by deriving security constraints that actors need to satisfy. Nevertheless goal-oriented modelling has proven itself to be valid it also contains few shortcomings. One of them is the high granularity of the process, which leads quickly to high complexity models. Security patterns are proven to be reusable solutions that address recurring security problems. In this paper we investigate the integration of a pattern-based security requirements derivation from the Secure Tropos models.
