The health of a software ecosystem is argued to be a key indicator of well-being, longevity and performance of a network of companies. In this paper, we address what scientific literature actually means with the concept of 'ecosystem health' by selecting relevant articles with systematic literature review. Based on the final set of 38 papers, we found that despite a common base, the term has been used to depict a wide range of hoped characteristics of a software ecosystem. However, the number of studies addressing the topic is shown to grow while empirical studies are still rare. Thus, further studies should aim to standardize the terminology and concepts in order to create a common base for future work. Further work is needed also to develop early indicators that warn and guides companies on problems with their ecosystems.

The "food safety" issue has concerned governments from several countries. The accurate monitoring of agriculture have become important specially due to climate change impacts. In this context, the development of new technologies for monitoring are crucial. Finding previously unknown patterns that frequently occur on time series, known as motifs, is a core task to mine the collected data. In this work we present a method that allows a fast and accurate time series motif discovery. From the experiments we can see that our approach is able to efficiently find motifs even when the size of the time series goes longer. We also evaluated our method using real data time series extracted from remote sensing images regarding sugarcane crops. Our proposed method was able to find relevant patterns, as sugarcane cycles and other land covers inside the same area, which are really useful for data analysis.

Existing studies have widely suggested that perceived enjoyment and habitual usage of information systems (IS) are favorable factors which lead to positive outcomes of IS adoption. In this study, we examine the dark sides of these factors with a sample of 384 respondents of smartphone users. Drawing upon previous research, we propose that perceived enjoyment can facilitate the formation of habit and smartphone addiction. However, habit shows no significant impact on smartphone addiction. Meanwhile, we argue that users who primarily use value-added functions of smartphone may experience higher enjoyment and easily form habitual usage behavior. Further, these users are more likely to become smartphone addicts. Theoretical and practical implications, limitations and future work directions are discussed.

Enterprise Models are the central asset that supports Enterprise Architecture, as they embody enterprise and IT knowledge and decisions. Static analysis over this kind of models is made by inspecting certain properties and patterns, with the goal of gaining understanding and support decision making through evidence. However, this is not a straightforward process, as the model in its raw form is rarely suitable for analysis due to its complexity and size. As a consequence, current approaches focus on partial views and queries over this model, leading to partial assessments of the architecture. In this paper, we propose a different approach to EA analysis, which consists on the incremental assessment of the architecture based on the interaction of the user with visualizations of the whole model. We implemented our approach in a visual analysis tool, PRIMROSe, where analysts can rapidly prototype custom functions that operate on topological or semantic properties of the model, combine partial insights for sounder assessments, associate these findings to visual attributes, and interact with the model using multiple visualization techniques.

BPMN has become the de facto standard notation for process modelling. Past research has demonstrated the need for modelling guidelines to improve the quality of process models. In previous research we collected a set of practical guidelines through a systematic literature survey and classified those in different categories. In this paper we test a selection of BPMN tools for their support for these guidelines, and report on existing support per category of guideline and the kinds of support used by the tool to support the different guidelines. The results give insight into which domains of guidelines are well supported and which lack support from BPMN tools. Further, different preferences of the vendors are observed regarding the methods of support they implement in their tools.

The Enterprise Architecture (EA) provides a holistic view of an enterprise and seeks to align the business and IT. As the change in the business goals and strategies of an enterprise is inevitable, managing the evolution of the EA is a key challenge for modern enterprises. Furthermore, the EA metrics are instrumental in quantitatively measuring the progress of an enterprise towards its goals. The retrospective analysis of the EA metrics empower practitioners to take informed decisions while planning and selecting efficient alternatives to achieve the envisioned goal. The tool support for the EA metric analysis is still in its infancy. In this paper, we propose a model-based approach to capture the temporal aspects of the EA metrics and extend a model-based expression language to compute the EA metrics at any point of time in the past. This allows the visualization of the evolution of the EA metrics and as a consequence the evolution of the EA.

Context. Innovation is promoted in companies to help them stay competitive. Four types of innovation are defined: product, process, business, and organizational. Objective. We want to understand the perception of the innovation concept in industry, and particularly how the innovation types relate to each other. Method. We launched a survey at a branch of a multi-national corporation. Results. From a qualitative analysis of the 229 responses, we see that the understanding of the innovation concept is somewhat narrow, and mostly related to product innovation. A majority of respondents indicate that product innovation triggers process, business, and organizational innovation, rather than vice versa. However, there is a complex interdependency between the types. We also identify challenges related to each of the types. Conclusion. Increasing awareness and knowledge of different types of innovation, may improve the innovation. Further, they cannot be handled one by one, but in their interdependent relations.

Digital visualisation is a way of representing data and information with the aid of digital means, engages human interpretation on information in order to gain insights in a particular context. Digital visualisation is always purposeful that will illustrate relationships;discover patterns and interdependencies;or generate some hypothesis or theory. However, it is still bound to the semantic (interpretation of visual displays and the meaning in the context) and pragmatic (effect and intention to be achieved) issues. These two issues can be addressed by semiotics, a formal doctrine of signs introduced by Peirce back in the 1930s;where digital visualisation is seen as a process of abduction. Abduction is a key process of scientific inquiry, which involves norms. Norms are patterns, regulations, rules and laws which are the reflection of knowledge in a cultural group or an organisation;which has an effect on the human interpretation on information. This paper pioneers a new perspective of digital visualisation by positioning digital visualisation as a process of abduction and proposes the key principles in digital visualisation.

Services have become a vital catalyst for economic growth worldwide. From a business perspective, innovation in services is regarded as being a key pillar in order to sustain the growth momentum of the service sector. The capability to create innovative services constitutes a complex problem for service providers. A major problem identified through a review of the literature concerns the lack of a service innovation framework that puts emphasis on the development of customer value or value being proposed by a service to customers. This paper presents a value development framework, called ServiceMIF, which can contribute to creating service innovation opportunities during service development through the creation of new or improved customer value. Ongoing preliminary trial results show that ServiceMIF can effectively help businesses to propose new or improved customer value while enhancing the quality of their service offerings.
