While process visualizations are perceived by many as very cool technologies, companies are not yet willing to embrace them as warmly and quickly as expected. Managers still demand more convincing and significant added value. Another issue might be with offering process visualization technologies as somewhat detached solutions, or not taking into account business Intelligence solutions which might already exist in the company. The keynote aims to demonstrate how process and data visualization tools can be combined and applied to various business domains in order to increase process awareness which will lead to intelligent process management.

There exists a huge variety in the occurrence and characteristics of major incidents. Incident management stakeholders and in particular emergency health service providers have to deal with two basic challenges: The disproportion between the needs and the available human/material resources in the response capacity and the inherent time constraints of an emergency. These critical factors play a seminal role in the decision-making process during a crisis event, which affects all levels of command & control (strategic, operational, and tactical). The drawback with current health emergency management systems lies with the command & control operations that should coordinate the actions of the separate services and turn them into an effective, multi-faceted crisis response mechanism. IMPRESS improves the efficiency of decision making in emergency health operations, which has a direct impact on the quality of services provided to citizens. Furthermore it provides a consolidated concept of operations, to effectively manage medical resources, prepare and coordinate response activities, supported by a Decision Support System, using data from multiple heterogeneous sources. The proposed solution facilitates communication between Health Services (and Emergency Responders) at all levels of response and the crisis cycle with the necessary health care systems support, supervision and management of participating organizations. It will assist health services in becoming more proactive, better prepared and interoperable with other emergency response organizations.

Urban mobility services generate massive amounts of raw data that are usually not explored in depth by the entities that own them. Visualisation techniques could improve knowledge extraction and decision-making, as well as support the reengineering of those services. Some studies in information Visualisation provide a domain-independent classification for visualisations based on their own characteristics and the data they support, although independent of their context of use. We propose a classification for visualisations of urban mobility data according to their context of use and their characteristics. Our first results are encouraging and are supported by a user-centred design process carried with urban mobility experts, in which we developed and evaluated a set of visualisation prototypes. The conclusions form a first effort towards a conceptual framework proposal for classifying visualisations of this domain, and are expected to guide researchers and practitioners searching for adequate ways to visually represent their data.

Excellence in IT is a key enabler for the digital transformation of enterprises. To realize the vision of Digital Enterprises it is necessary to cope with changing business requirements and to align business and IT. In order to evaluate the contribution of Enterprise Architecture Management to these goals, our paper explores the impact of various factors to the perceived benefit of EAM in enterprises. Based on literature, we build an empirical research model. It is tested with empirical data of European EAM experts using a structural equation modelling approach. It is shown that changing business requirements, IT business Alignment, the complexity of information Technology infrastructure as well as enterprise architecture knowledge of information Technology employees are crucial impact factors to the perceived benefit of EAM in enterprises.

Metaheuristics are often adopted to solve optimization problems where some requests need to be scheduled among a finite number of resources, i.e., the so called scheduling problems. Such techniques approach the optimization problems by taking inspiration from a certain physical phenomenon. Simulated annealing is a metaheuristic approach inspired to the controlled cooling of a material from a high temperature to a state in which internal defects of the crystals are minimized. In this paper, we use a simulated annealing-based approach to solve the problem of the scheduling of geographically distributed routine maintenance interventions. Each intervention has to be assigned to a maintenance team and the choice among the available teams and the order in which interventions are performed by each team are based on team skills, cost of overtime work, and cost of transportation. We compare our solution algorithm versus an exhaustive approach. First, we consider a real industrial use case and show several numerical results to analyze the effect of the parameters of the simulated annealing on the accuracy of the solution and on the execution time of the algorithm. Then, we provide results varying the parameters and dimension of the considered problem high-lighting how they affect reliability and efficiency of our algorithm.

This paper presents a Z-PROMETHEE with Z-numbers as a new representation of vague information for a facility location selection (FLS) problem. The selection of a facility location, which is a kind of a multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) problem, should be considered from a strategic point of view. In a real-world situation, MCDM problems are generally under uncertainty. In order to overcome such a problem, fuzzy sets can be applied with the PROMETHEE to allow experts to combine inadequate information into the decision method. However, the fuzzy PROMETHEE also has some defects. The main problem is that the certainty of information is not taking into account. For explanation of real-life information, fuzziness and degree of the certainty of information are indispensable. In the proposed method, Z-numbers are used to evaluate the weights of the criteria. Hence, in comparison with the fuzzy model, the PROMETHEE with a Z-number (i.e., Z-PROMETHEE) can symbolize real life problems more realistically.

business process execution is affected by various contextual factors. Context-aware business processes consider the contextual factors during process design and execution. There is a large variety of possible context situations and their impact on the business process is difficult to know in advance. To this end an advanced context processing to adjust business process execution is proposed. It allows flexible definition of meaningful context categories using measurable properties of the context and run-time adjustment of the categories. The adjustment is performed depending on the progress towards achieving business goals. The proposal is demonstrated by a travel management example.

Auctions have been used in the procurement of heterogeneous products, produced and delivered after the auctions conclude, as well as services. In these situations the quasi-linearity assumption of the buyer and the sellers is violated and the price and other attributes are interrelated. The relationship between price and other attributes is illustrated here with two exchanges in which the market participants are characterized by Cobb-Douglass production functions. It shown that even in the simplest case, when the contract curve is linear, the price and other attributes are interrelated. This relationship becomes more complex for non-linear contract curves. The paper shows that in these cases the auction does not maximize social welfare, i.e., it is an inefficient mechanism. Furthermore, even if the winning bid is an efficient solution, a win-win solution which dominates this bid may be possible. The buyer needs to engage in multi-bilateral negotiations in order to seek joint-improvements. The purpose of the negotiation is to search for side-payments.

Software Engineering is an up-to-date discipline in constant development. It is continuingly enriched with new proposals from both industry and academy. Adequate validation of these proposals is a must if their real value for Software Engineering is to be determined. This paper demonstrates how a Software Engineering framework was validated with the help of Technical-Action-Research and Case Study methods, which were applied in several life cycles during a validation process of three years. Integration of these methodologies resulted in a solid research method with continuous feedback on and placement of the artifact in a real context. Using Technical-Action-Research together with Case Studies allowed to achieve research objectives and to meet the needs and goals of the organizations involved in the validation process, which emphasizes this method's advantages and usefulness for Software Engineering.

business process design is an important activity for the planning and analysis of information systems that support the organization's business processes. Our goal is to help business analysts produce detailed models of the business processes that best reflect the needs of their organizations. To this end, we propose to, a) leverage the best practices in terms of a catalog of generic business processes, and b) provide analysts with tools to customize those processes by generating, on-demand, new process variants around automatically identified process variation points. We use business patterns from the Resource Event Agent ontology to identify variation points, and to codify the model transformations inherent in the generation of the process variants. We developed a prototype, showing the computational feasibility of the approach. Early feedback from a case study with three business Process Management (BPM) experts validated the relevance of the variation points, and the correctness of corresponding transformations, within the context of key Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) processes. In this paper, we summarize the approach and report of the results of a larger experiment, gaining insights into the strengths and weaknesses of our approach, and suggesting avenues for improvement.
