A new type of floating platform supported by aircushion units is studied by experimental tests. The platform consists of six hexahedron aircushion units encircling a moonpool in the central. The side walls of aircushion units are extended into the water, and the bottom of aircushion is entirely open to the water. Three kinds of floating platform models are full-aircushion-type platform, full-barge-type platform, and mixed-type platform. Each of them has the same shape and is tested in regular wave conditions. The free-surface elevation inside the aircushion chambers and moonpool is also measured simultaneously as well as the motion responses of the models. The motion responses and the free-surface profile are discussed in this paper. The results show that the motion behaviors of the hexagonal aircushion-type platform are better than those of the barge-type platform in short-wavelength conditions, while behaviors in long wavelength are almost the same. Moreover, the amplitudes and profiles of free-surface elevation of the front aircushion, moonpool, and rear aircushion are different depending on the types of platforms and the wavelength conditions.

A dearth of research exists concerning the road influence of road infrastructure on road safety in low- to medium-income nations, particularly in relation to vulnerable road users (VRUs). To address this void, an extensive five-year study (2017-2021) was conducted in Vadodara, examining VRUs involvement in fatal crashes and the impact of various road infrastructure. This investigation primarily scrutinized variables such as land use, street lighting, lane count, parking facilities, road width, medians, median cuts, lane markings, zebra crossings, speed breakers, footpath presence, commercial activities, and access density on VRU fatal crashes. The study analysed 608 midblock within the road network, incorporating pertinent geometric aspects. To ascertain risk factors for VRU fatal crashes, an unmatched case-control methodology applying a Logistic regression model was employed, defining cases as midblock with VRUfatal crashes and controls as midblock without, presenting both univariate and fully adjusted models. Throughout the study period, 169 pedestrian and 198 motorized two-wheeler fatal crashes occurred. Bicyclist crashes were excluded due to their relative rarity compared to pedestrians and motorized two-wheelers. Key findings reveal that higher traffic volume and an increased number of lanes significantly correlate with elevated pedestrian crash risks. Similarly, motorized two-wheeler (M2W) crashes are notably influenced by the number of lanes and median width. However, wider medians exhibit a negative correlation with M2W crashes, indicating a safety benefit. Moreover, residential land use is statistically significant for both pedestrian andM2Wcrashes, highlighting the elevated crash likelihood associated with increased pedestrian and M2W activity. These findings underscore the need for targeted interventions to enhance VRU safety and inform policy decisions for improved road infrastructures.

Laboratory in educational building plays an important role in nurturing knowledge particularly for students and researchers. However, the laboratory is often left empty with no ventilation during night and weekend. It can cause high relative humidity and lead to condensation risk. It should be prevented since laboratories are a daily working place for researchers and they have to maintain the indoor environmental quality and the particular equipment there. Therefore, to avoid further destruction in the laboratory, a detection method is needed. This study aims to detect condensation risk in a laboratory in educational buildings. To do so, photogrammetry with thermal cameras was utilized with the Structure from Motion (SfM) approach. At the same time, the field measurement was conducted, namely air temperature and relative humidity using HOBO data logger. The result shows that condensation already happened in the laboratory, and the condensation will continue when the air-condition in the room is turned off due to the high relative humidity. This study recommends further investigation of other risks that may happen in the laboratory.

In this paper, the floor-deck and.-shaped ground trackless sliding formwork system is designed by referring to the steel structure ground slip high formwork system. To reduce the consumption of steel pipe materials and labor in high formwork construction, so that the cast-in-place beam slab formwork system of the factory building project is further optimized. The methods used include introduction, methodology, application and discussions and conclusions. The results show that the floor-deck and.-shaped ground trackless sliding formwork system which studied in this paper can effectively reduce the number of labor and steel pipe materials, and is safe and reliable. At the same time, it can also save the construction period. It is worthy of reference for similar projects and has broad application prospects.

Transportation planning professionals are continuously striving to provide a multitude of sustainable travel alternatives to the public, such as walking, cycling, and utilizing public transportation. These eco-friendly options serve as formidable competitors to private motorized vehicles, known for their high emissions of greenhouse gases. Surprisingly, despite the prevalence of private vehicles, there exists a group of road users who staunchly favour sustainable transport modes. Their motives for this preference are diverse and evolve over time, reflecting the shifting attitudes and priorities of individuals towards environmental sustainability and personal wellbeing. The present study investigated the impact of attitudes towards owning private vehicles and attitudes towards public transport on users' preferences for sustainable transport modes (STM), i.e., walking, bicycling and public transport. The study examined a model of sustainable transport mode preference that can explain attitudes towards owning vehicles and public transport. The study analyses the sustainable transport mode preference derived from commuters in Nagpur, India, using a two-stage MIMIC approach (Multiple Indicator Multiple Cause model). To analyse this dataset, a two-stage MIMIC approach was employed, which combines EFA (exploratory factor analysis) and MIMIC model. The result confirms that preference for STM is majorly influenced by attitudes towards private vehicles and public transport. Although the socio-demographic of individuals should not be overlooked, they play a pivotal role in influencing attitudes towards both public and private transport modes. By examining factors influencing the preference for sustainable transport modes, policymakers and transport planners can gain insight into the importance of users' perceptions about private and public transport in developing a sustainable transport system.

Mumbai suburban railway system remains critical to the lifeline of the city. This paper looks at the inclusive and accessible dimensions of the suburban railway system. It intends to reflect upon the key issues involved in making the suburban railway system more inclusive and human centric, especially for persons with disabilities. It is based on a study carried out on over forty (40) suburban rail stations in Mumbai over a period of more than six (06) months. It involves direct and indirect observations, along with qualitative insights through surveys with diverse stakeholders involving persons with disabilities and other allied service professionals. It highlights the broad issues and challenges faced by diverse persons with disabilities in the Mumbai suburban railway system and reviews learnings from the best practice models. Guided by the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, it analyses the key accessibility issues in terms of information, infrastructure, and services in the suburban railway system of Mumbai. This includes accessibility perspectives in the digital information systems like Mobile rail applications (like UTS, YATRI app). It brings out specific learnings of the needs of diverse population groups along with disability perspectives rooted in an understanding of demographic impact. It paves a diagnostic way toward mobility infrastructure development specific to the context of Mumbai. This study recommends a holistic framework of understanding suburban railway systems through the lens of inclusivity, incorporating the diverse needs of persons with disabilities and other population groups.

Comprehending the correlation between material properties and pipeline performance is critical in the field of pipeline integrity. The objective of this research is to examine the correlation between tensile strengths and elastic properties, with a particular focus on the axial and hoop dimensions, in relation to release pressure and various types of wraps. Furthermore, it was to investigate the impact of different wrap properties. By employing a methodical sensitivity analysis approach, the characteristics of the Wrap control were modified at 25%, 50%, and 75% increments and decrements, respectively. The results of this study suggest that although tensile strengths and burst pressures are generally correlated, particularly in the direction of the hoop, specific anomalies demonstrate that tensile strength is not the only factor influencing burst pressure. The findings emphasize the importance of a comprehensive comprehension of material behaviors when attempting to forecast pipeline performance. They provide support for more extensive inquiries that consider additional intrinsic and extrinsic factors.

Wooden joints are considered as vulnerable parts that often lead to structural failure. One of the most widely used joints is the longitudinal half-lap joint. This is used to joint woods longitudinally and is frequently employed for joints in beam or column elements. Various types of joints are utilized, such as mortise and tenon joints, bolts, and nails. Jointing wood using a dowel joint tool, or known as 'interlocking wooden joint' allows woods material being joined to adapt. This way, the joint becomes more optimal in dealing with changes in temperature and humidity. Therefore, research related to wooden interlocking needs to be developed. This study aims to assess how various interlocking shapes affect the flexural strength of longitudinal half-lap joints. This is experimental research with a three-point load-bending test. The longitudinal half-lap joint was explored using four variations of the interlock system, namely circle, triangle, rhombus, and concave hexagon, each with three samples. Based on the test results, the interlocking shape with the highest values for Modulus of Rupture (MoR) and Modulus of Elasticity (MoE) is the concave hexagonal shape, with MoR = 21.12 MPa and MoE = 2087 MPa. The MoR value is 14% higher than the triangular shape, 37% higher than the rhombus shape, and 48% higher than the circular shape. The MoE value is 5% higher than the triangular shape, 20% higher than the rhombus shape, and 48% higher than the circular shape. Therefore, the concave hexagonal interlocking shape is stronger in resisting flexural strength among the variations.

The method of reusing existing historical buildings by refunctioning instead of meeting the changing needs of society over time with new constructions has been defined as an urban conservation strategy and an architectural principle, especially in the second half of the 20th century. This transformation and change mean meeting the old with the new, the traditional with the modern, and the past with the future. One of the most preferred methods in re-functioning is to make an extension to the historical building with a functional change. Extension structures can be located on the roof or a facade of historical buildings, or they can be built by forming an outer shell or completing the historical structure without touching the historical buildings. Glass materials are frequently used when extension construction methods are used in refunctionalized buildings. Within the scope of the study, the use of glass in the extension and the method of adding to the historical building were examined through five examples of purpose, size, transparency, and reflectivity.

Modern design processes of offshore and floating structures involve an increasingly large number of numeric analysis routines. While computerized design tools solve the mathematical model of the physical system efficiently, they offer limited post-processing and comparative tools for their outputs. In many cases, designers visually inspect the effects of correlating parameters on the structure. The process of reviewing the results, and drawing conclusions from them, is still a major bottleneck in floating structures design. Our work offers a systematic methodology, based on statistical guidelines, adapted for the design of floating structures. The methodology includes the following steps: (a) an agile and flexible wrangling and preprocessing scheme for the computerized analyses outputs;(b) a guide for choosing the correct visualization tools for the preliminary inspection of the results;(c) a set of "red flags" and trend detection tools for enhanced post-processing analysis;(d) a toolbox of analytic procedures for the comparative analysis of the results;(e) guidelines for avoiding common pitfalls and biases in the process of eliminating designs and choosing the correct parameters for later stages;and (f) an overview of reporting standards that enhance quality assurance and replicability. We demonstrate the routine by applying it on a boundary element routine of a new concept of VLFS. Our work shows how the use of correct visualization tools vastly reduces the number of exploratory analysis stages, and how using aparametric statistical methods can help researchers validate in a quantitative manner trends and discrepancies found in their analyses.
