A life cycle-connected approach can yield significant economic, environmental, and social benefits. Potential to generate additional Indonesian GDP of up to 43 billion USD in 2030, reduce waste per sector by 18% to 52% in 2030 and create 4.4 million new jobs in 2030. One sector that has potential is the construction industry. The approach integrates processes and products from design to execution of construction to the management of buildings, properties, and assets. With the characteristics of construction fragmentation, the whole integration of connected construction will be required to ensure efficiency. Decision-making for the approach involves many stakeholders in selecting alternatives, so negotiation is needed to evaluate the solution. Satisficing-based AHP is applied for the decision methodology. It consists of function and life cycle cost analysis as the basis of satisficing options. The result shows that each stakeholder has their own decision. Future research is to develop a negotiation algorithm to get the best-fit option to satisfy all stakeholders.

Recently, global carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere have reached a historically high level, and the marine sector's emission is one of the contributions. The current effort to change the alternative energy source of LNG (liquified natural gas) fuel is one of the cleanest fossil fuels due to lower carbon emissions. The world's energy needs for LNG are overgrowing as well, The LNG marine industry forecasts that the increasing demand for FLNG (floating liquefied natural gas) vessels will accelerate the research on the system process analysis and optimisation of the liquefaction system. The rapid growth in equipment and processes of FLNG development is the response to weight and space limits challenges. This paper proposed a small-scale liquefaction process with a refrigerant cycle, a single mixed refrigerant SMR-PRICO process as an example, using sensitivity analyses of the parameter to get optimisation. In addition, to study the influence of different process parameters on the solution of the optimisation problem, the parameters studied include natural gas supply at different pressure. The case study model is based on a process model presented by Black and Veatch developed a more straightforward SMR process called the PRICO process (Aspelund et al. 2010;Xu et al. 2013). The study models were simulated with process parameters for the base case in Table 1 (Venkatarathnam in Cryogenic mixed refrigerant processes, Springer).

The COVID-19 pandemic has precipitated significant disruptions in urban transportation systems, challenging long-held urban planning practices. This study uses a convergent parallel mixed-methods approach to investigate the pandemic's impact on transportation spaces and urban design in India. Our research aims to (1) assess changes in transportation mode usage across demographic groups, (2) explore perceptions of traditional urban planning approaches, and (3) identify opportunities and challenges for sustainable transportation and urban spaces in a post-pandemic context. Quantitative analysis of survey data from 100 urban residents in major Indian cities revealed a 70% decrease in public transit usage, particularly among students and retirees. In contrast, private vehicle usage and active transportation modes like walking and cycling significantly rose. Chi-square tests indicated a significant association between occupational status and views on urban planning effectiveness (chi(2)(2)= 6.11, p= 0.047). One-way ANOVA showed notable differences in perceived mobility challenges across urban areas (F(2,97) = 4.28, p = 0.017, eta(2) = 0.15). Regression analysis further linked decreased transit use to increased support for public transit enhancements (beta = 0.61, p = 0.002). Qualitative insights from interviews with 15 urban planning experts underscored the need to rethink high-density, transit-oriented development in favor of more adaptable and resilient urban design strategies. This study contributes to urban resilience and sustainable mobility discourse, providing empirical evidence to guide policy interventions to foster more adaptable, equitable, and sustainable urban environments post-pandemic.

The application of iron-based Shape Memory Alloy (Fe-SMA) for enhancing the structural performance of existing buildings and infrastructure has recently gained significant traction. Utilising the shape memory effect in this smart material to induce prestressing forces shows a promising outcome in enhancing structural behaviour. However, there is a limited understanding of this new strengthening material, which hinders its optimisation and can limit the safety and efficiency of reinforced concrete (RC) beams. This study explores the behaviour of RC beam strengthened with Near-surface Mounted (NSM) approach using iron-based shape memory alloy subjected to similar loading conditions. The failure modes of the tested strengthened RC beams are investigated in this study. Four-point testing was performed to assess the behaviour of RC beams. It is found that the flexural failure of RC beams has a 22% higher ultimate load compared to beams with shear failure. Although both RC beams show identical first crack loads and locations at the initial loading stage, the crack propagation becomes a discrepancy. It leads to different load-carrying capacities as the load increases. The behaviour of the RC beams under applied load is complex, and a combination of strengthening materials and approaches contributed to the factors that determine how they respond and fail under specific conditions.

In the building industry, the common notion is that the more durable a material, the more sustainable it is. However, in the fast-changing world we live in today, functions change, and space needs to adapt rapidly, causing more construction waste than ever. To respond to this condition, we researched to explore alternative building blocks that recover waste, use dry-stacking methods to increase reusability potential, and ultimately ensure biodegradability at the end of their life. To narrow our focus, the research questions are: How have we used recovered materials to create biodegradable wall components? How do we shape the blocks to enable a dry-stacking system and provide additional value to the wall design? What design potentials do the blocks have in composing a wall component? The research team, alongside students from "Appropriated Building Technology," an elective course at the Architecture Department of Universitas Pelita Harapan, collaborated with Indonesian material makers to answer those questions. We developed the block prototypes from mycelium and sawdust waste (with Mycotech), coffee chaff waste (with Bell Society), and used cotton cloth (with Mortier). This seminal research is concluded by describing the characteristics of each bio-based block, testing their strength, and exploring the shape of the walls that the blocks can form. We are hoping to open up the potential for more biodegradable building materials.

For the design of floating offshore wind turbines (FOWTs), numerical simulations for a large number of design load cases (DLCs) are required. Now, several numerical tools have been developed and available, such as Bladed and OrcaFlex;however, the number of licenses may limit the efficiency of the analysis. In this paper, we report on the latest progress of the development of a simulation tool for FOWTs using MBDyn. MBDyn is an open-source software of multibody dynamics. We have developed several user-defined modules that extend MBDyn to be used for dynamic analysis of FOWTs. Using this tool, we will be able to run many simulations simultaneously without a limit of the number of software licenses. Several numerical examples will be given as comparison with the results obtained by ADAMS.

This article explores the possibilities of using generative models in the design of capital construction facilities and their interiors. The article presents practical and theoretical research methods for testing several models, including diffusion generative models and generative transformers-based language models. The results are divided into three groups: working with images, working with text and writing programs. The article shows that generative models can simplify and speed up the work of designers. However, the accuracy of the models needs to be improved. In general, the results indicate that generative models can be effectively used for tasks that do not require high accuracy.

As a means of expanding the land necessary for human activities, land reclamation has been carried out in coastal areas in addition to reclamation of flat lands and forests. These human activities have had a great impact on the natural environment and ecosystems. As the global population continues to grow and become more concentrated in urban areas, there is a need to expand coastal land while minimizing environmental impact. As a solution, it is being considered to float the functions necessary for the city on the coast using floating structures. On the other hand, if a large-scale land is required, the floating structure, which is designed to integrate the floating ground and the building structure, cannot be rebuilt as freely as landfill sites. In order to solve this problem, this research proposes a floating artificial ground system that realizes a land area comparable to a landfill site with floating artificial ground, allows construction in any position, and can be reconstructed. This is a three-layer structure system in which a load distribution layer and a flexible pit layer are provided on the floating structure layer. The load distribution layer disperses the concentrated load of the building, and the flexible pit layer enables the installation of building foundations and equipment. In addition, we devised a device that allows the foundation of the building to be fixed and detached. Furthermore, it is a system that has a ballast function to correct eccentricity due to building layout. In this study, static stability was verified by a model that assumed a block of 150 m x 150 m and arranged three buildings. In addition, we will describe the floating city concept in Singapore, which was conceived as an application.

Sandwich plates consist of a thick and light core layer between thin face layers on the outer surfaces. They are widely used in marine and aerospace structures because of their advantageous mechanical properties and light weights. In this study, the critical buckling loads in different types of in-plane loading, which are important parameters for the design of plate structures, are investigated separately for sandwich plates at different layer thicknesses and boundary conditions. In the calculations, the upper and lower face layer thicknesses of the sandwich plates are assumed to be the same. The material at the face sheets is steel and at the middle core, end-grain balsa wood is used. Considered sandwich plates were analyzed using ANSYS finite element software and the classical thin plate theory assumptions are assumed for the solution. Some of the results obtained were verified with those in the literature and it was concluded that the results were in good agreement. Another result of the study is about the boundary conditions;the sandwich plates simply supported on four sides is the optimal design among the examined boundary conditions. From the results obtained, it has also been demonstrated that the effect of boundary conditions decreases as the difference between the loads normal to the axes acting in-plane increases. Although the total plate thickness is the same, it was concluded that the different face and core layer thicknesses also affect the buckling behavior of sandwich plates. It is concluded that when the face layer thickness of the sandwich plate increases, its strength to the buckling increases.

As the impacts and damages caused by global warming become more and more severe, the ocean-based climate solutions are gaining increasing attention. This chapter examined a floating system combining ocean energy utilization, offshore aquaculture, and biological productivity enhancement. Standardized and modified systems were assumed to be applied in tropic and subtopic areas in East to Southeast Asia. Comprehensive assessments and carbon footprint calculations were conducted for the assumed applications. The results of the comprehensive assessment by the index of IIIlight demonstrated the sustainability of all the applications. Despite the large amount of capital investment is difficult to be paid back, the huge environmental benefit makes the system to be sustainable at 14th-33rd year during the 50 years' design lifetime. The carbon footprint calculations also showed the potential of the system to be a climate solution. An annual CO2 reduction effect could be expected in all examined applications, while the effect varied from 5000 to near 100,000 tons in different location. Employing the microalgae cultivation to link the ocean energy utilization and the ocean aquaculture, the proposal could also contribute to maintain the food, especially the protein security.
