Driven by population growth and rural migration toward the cities, the demand for affordable housing continues to increase. However, due to the scarcity of urban development space-especially in coastal areas, the supply is limited. As increasing land availability is one of the most effective ways to reduce real estate costs, this interdisciplinary research explores the alternative of urban expansion toward the adjacent marine environment of coastal cities. It focuses on floating residential dwellings from both technological and urban planning perspective, aiming to include the waterfront of coastal cities as viable, sustainable, and affordable alternative for urban development. The research takes on one of the most expensive cities in the world, Tel Aviv-Yafo, as a case study for increasing the supply of affordable housing in addition to vital sustainable future growth in the adjacent marine environment.

The purpose of this research is to evaluate the use of reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) in dense hot asphalt mixtures (HMA). The objective is to analyze the physical and mechanical behavior of these mixtures, following ASTM D 1559 and AASHTOT 283 standards. For the design of these hot asphalt mixtures, several aspects were considered, such as the grain size of coarse and fine aggregates, as well as the testing of the virgin AC30 asphalt binder. In addition, the granulometry of the RAP obtained by the "milling" process was considered, using a sample of the asphalt layer of the road in Canal Seco of Comayagua, Honduras. Asphalt briquettes were made and dosed using percentages of 10% and 20% of RAP, compared with a control sample. The results obtained showed that the optimum content is 5.60% for the control sample, 5.25% for 20% RAP and 5.45% for 10% RAP. In terms of mechanical properties, stability 3446 Lb. and flow 10.30/100 in. were found for the control sample, 3743 Lb. and 11.50/100 in. for the sample with 20% RAP and 3546 Lb. and 11.55/100 in. for the sample with 10% RAP. In terms of resistance to moisture damage, values of 95.10% were obtained for the control sample, 93.60% for the 20% RAP sample and 94.30% for the 10% RAP sample. In conclusion, the (HMA) with RAP additions performs well in terms of resistance to moisture damage and compliance with the specified volumetrics.

Public transport (PT) drivers play a vital role in our communities. They are the backbone of the urban transportation system in most cities worldwide. Many issues faced by PT drivers are yet to be explored in the context of developing countries. Studies in developed countries are concentrated on drivers' stress and emotional wellbeing. The current research focuses on understanding the challenges and barriers faced by PT drivers in urban India. The study is based on a questionnaire survey in Kota City, Rajasthan. A total of 289 predominantly male drivers participated and completed the survey. The study uses descriptive analysis to explore the challenges faced by the drivers. Further research can build upon these descriptive findings to explore the relationships between variables, investigate potential solutions to enhance PT drivers' well-being and satisfaction and propose targeted solutions to address the identified challenges. By analysing and addressing the needs of PT professionals, transport planners can foster a more inclusive and efficient urban mobility framework, enhancing the overall quality of life for residents and commuters in the city.

The use of floating structures for harvesting clean solar energy on water bodies has become popular thanks to the technological advancement that has led to more energy- and cost-efficient photovoltaic panels and the availability and environmental benefits of large-scale water bodies. Built on the successful experiences of floating solar farms on inland and coastal waters, research and development activities are now oriented toward floating large-scale solar farms on offshore waters where the space is abundant. At the same time, harsh environmental conditions make it challenging in almost every aspect of the lifecycle, including the design, construction, onsite installation, operation and maintenance, and decommissioning. This paper presents the conceptual development of an innovative soft-connected lattice-structured modular floating solar farm for use in open offshore environments. Technical feasibility assessments involving hydrostatic examinations were carried out to ensure that the proposed concept fulfills the design requirements. Based on these, scaled model tests of both a small array comprising six connected standard floats and a large array of 216 floats were conducted. The experimental study showed that the proposed concept can perform well under both operational conditions and survive extreme conditions with wave heights above 10 m.

The shape coefficient, as a crucial parameter reflecting the thermal dissipation area of unit building space, directly impacts building energy consumption. In this study, architectural floor plans of China's preschool institutions in different historical periods were compared and analyzed. By calculating the shape coefficient and aspect ratio based on the relevant construction standards of preschool educational institutions in each period, this research, from a carbon-neutral perspective, seeks to elucidate how the shape coefficient and aspect ratio of these institutions are influenced by pedagogical ideologies, which was significant different statistically.

In prefabricated wind power foundations, prefabricated modules are assembled into a unified structure using prestressed shear key tooth splicing joints. Key-tooth splicing joint is one of the primary forms of dry splicing used in assembly buildings and segmental assembly bridges engineering. It is necessary to take the compressive strain of concrete at the edge of the compression zone as the failure state to constitute flexural capacity calculation method for the assembled beam with double-bond tooth-shaped dry joints. Based on the plane section assumption, force balance theory, sectional equilibrium and deformation coordination mechanism are illustrated considering the mechanical characteristics of unbonded prestressed tendons and the elastic-plastic constitutive model of concrete. Based on ABAQUS finite element analysis, flexural behaviors are analyzed and to examine the bending performance and failure state of double-bond tooth-shaped dry joints under various initial local compressive stresss. The proposed calculation formula for bending capacity are verified finally and gets good agreements with the finite element analysis results.

With the rapid development of China's cities, the urban heat island effect has intensified, and the habitat environment problems of old residential areas are becoming increasingly severe, unable to meet the residents' demand for a healthy and comfortable life. Rooftop greening, an important initiative to improve urban habitat, can effectively alleviate the urban heat island effect and reduce energy consumption simultaneously. According to the characteristics of old residential areas, this paper focuses on extensive green roof strategies by taking Tongji Workers' Village in Shanghai as an example. It quantitatively simulates and analyzes the regulating effect of extensive green roofs on the indoor and outdoor thermal environment of old residential areas with GBSWARE, which is a building environment and energy consumption simulation software. The HVAC load for energy-saving is compared and analyzed before and after implementing green roofs. The results show that by greening 90% of the roof of Tongji Workers' Village, the overall average heat island intensity of the settlement decreased by 20%;the heating and cooling energy consumption of the building units decreased by 3.05% and 3.09%, respectively. This paper integrates domestic and international green roof technologies to explore the potential of photovoltaic power generation in green roof implementation, simultaneously achieving the goal of optimizing the thermal environment of old residential areas and reducing heating and cooling energy consumption. The results of this analysis demonstrate the optimization effect of lightweight, extensive green roofs on the indoor and outdoor living environment of old residential areas through multi-dimensional visualization mappings. The results of this paper provide a design basis for promoting green roof technology in high-density old residential areas.

The concept of perceived accessibility, which refers to an individual's belief about the ease of accessing and using various locations, services, or resources through the transportation system, is a valuable addition to traditional objective measures of accessibility. Recognizing the importance of user perceptions, it is crucial to include perceived accessibility in analyses to understand how transit users perceive the overall quality of services. This study employs Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) to examine complex relationships between latent variables (unobservable constructs) and observed variables (measurable indicators). Service quality is influenced by various aspects of the transportation system, such as stop and vehicle facilities, safety measures, and journey components outside the vehicle. Perceived accessibility assesses the system's ability to provide access to opportunities and activities. A focused questionnaire survey among 700 users of Vadodara's city bus service, including regular and infrequent passengers, measured user perceptions and satisfaction levels. The SEM model incorporates four latent variables: Stop-level facilities, In-vehicle facilities, Safety, and System facilities. Analysis revealed that System facilities had the strongest influence on perceived accessibility, followed by stop-level and in-vehicle facilities. Safety had a lesser influence. Key factors for System facilities include access distance, service frequency, waiting time, total travel time, and facilities for elderly and disabled individuals. Closeness at the end of journeys, stop waiting time, and total journey time significantly influences perceived accessibility, reflecting users' beliefs in the system's ability to make desired opportunities reachable on time. The study found significant satisfaction differences among socio-economic clusters in the city. It emphasizes the relationship between service quality and perceived accessibility, offering practical implication

Recently, various offshore fish pen design concepts have been proposed, and some have been built over the last few years. Owing to the high energetic offshore environment and deep water, two contrasting design philosophies for offshore fish pens have emerged. One design philosophy is to make the fish pen very large and robust to be able to withstand the strong waves, currents and winds. The other design philosophy is to have smaller, but flexible and submersible fish pen that will be able to descend to an appropriate water depth to dodge the strong surface waves, especially during extreme storms. This paper will present various offshore fish pens that have been built as well as newly proposed conceptual designs that are based on these two design philosophies. Also, recent developments in integrating or co-locating of offshore fish farm with other marine sectors will be highlighted.

Alkali-activated or geopolymer concrete has become popular as a promising substitute for ordinary Portland cement (OPC) concrete. Geopolymer concrete has a lower environmental impact than OPC, which has made it a favourable research option. Geopolymer binders can be manufactured from by-product/waste materials (e.g., slag, fly ash, red mud, etc.) or natural materials (e.g., kaolin or pozzolans). Previous geopolymer research has been extensively focused on the material level, with limited studies of the behaviour of the structural components. Therefore, the shear behaviour of steel fibre reinforced concrete deep beams synthesized from metakaolin and fly ash was investigated in the present study. Three deep beams were exposed to an elevated temperature of 600 degrees C and tested under four-point bending configuration. The primary variable was the steel fibre content (0, 0.35 and 0.7%). It was observed that the addition of steel fibres contributed to the compressive strength after heat exposure, with attained compressive strengths of 16.3, 20.7 and 19.1 MPa, respectively, for concrete with 0, 0.35 and 0.7% steel fibres. The shear strength after exposure 600 degrees C was 141.2, 143.8 and 152 kN, respectively, for concrete with 0, 0.35 and 0.7% steel fibres, indicating a negligible effect of steel fibres in increasing the shear strength of metakaolin-fly ash based geopolymer concrete after heat exposure.
