In order to construct a very large floating structure (VLFS) such as a floating city and a runway, many modular units are required. Several VLFSs were proposed by using barge type or semi-submersible type in the past. This paper reviews a historical background of pneumatic and/or air-cushion floating platform at first. Secondly, this paper introduces an innovative design concept of the pneumatic floating structure that can be used for a VLFS which can reduce rocking in rough waves and reduce tilting caused by strong winds as well. Further, pneumatic floating modules can control their buoyant force by adding or reducing the air in the modules by which they can cope with variable loadings on them. Finally, wave tank experiments were conducted at the University of Tokyo to examine seakeeping characteristics of the proposed pneumatic floating platform which was found promising.

The current research is focused on the application of the rigid grid steel system, known as Diagrid, in tall buildings for the analysis of their seismic behavior to demonstrate the potential benefits that this could perform, to be applied in lands located in seismic zones "4", such as Lima Metropolitan. This investigation aims to determine how the Diagrid system influences the seismic performance of buildings. Hence, data collected from five previous research compared the number of stories and the inclination angle of each grid based on the technical specifications and international requirements for earthquake-resistance design. Through the results obtained, it will be able to quantify the seismic behavior of the buildings. For instance, the top stories displacements increased by around 20% for each story increased, and by 10% for each inclination angle. To recapitulate, each structural element of the Diagrid system plays a significant role in seismic behavior bringing more ductility to the structure and, in consequence, inhibiting further structural damage. The number of floors directly influences the inclination angle;the taller the building is, the greater the inclination angle of the grids is. And consequently, the inclination angle is a determining parameter for the seismic behavior of tall buildings.

This article illustrates the process of creating macro and non-linear calculation of stress-strain state of metal rod, which allows to make preliminary calculations in Grasshopper environment, taking into account non-linear effects for steel structures. The proposed approach is especially interesting because it is based on the finite difference method (FDM), which does not require large computing power, is implemented in a common language that allows the use of open-source code without the use of expensive software and can be used for in-depth analysis of the operation of the rod. Meshing is realized also in Grasshopper and affects the results accuracy crucially. The example of an approach is given as the calculation of a cantilevered compressed-flexible rod with a round tube section, an I-section and a channel section, considering physical and geometric nonlinearities, with the modelling of a shape and the formation of data on the geometry by Grasshopper and the subsequent import of the obtained data into a code developed on Python3. The FDM results can be compared to more common FEM calculation, the example of such comparison is given and the discussion about the reasons of convergence or non-convergence. In prospect, similar technique can be used for some materials, which characteristics are not standard, and their features are not included in existing FEM-software model options, and also for objects of complex geometrical shapes.

Rapid urbanization in India has driven a heightened need for public transportation, particularly Mass Rapid Transit Systems (MRTS) due to their speed, reliability, and affordability. This prompted the initiation of the Delhi Metro project and the preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for comprehensive demand assessment. However, a recent audit report revealed significant discrepancies between projected and actual ridership, raising concerns about the existing travel demand modeling method's reliability. Given the high costs of metro system construction and the need for accurate demand estimation, this study focuses on the efficacy of probabilistic models-Gaussian, Negative binomial, and Log-linear regression-for predicting passenger demand at metro stations. The investigation encompasses diverse variables like land use, socio-economic factors, and station attributes. The research concentrates on the Delhi Metro's Yellow Line, a prominent route within India's busiest metro system. To gather the necessary data, the research utilized Geographic Information System (GIS) software to effectively map and analyze the various land use variables. Additionally, a primary survey was conducted to capture relevant passenger characteristics. Once the data collection phase was completed, the research employed statistical software R for the purpose of modeling and analysis. Furthermore, to ensure the robustness of the developed models, additional validation was carried out in two other cities. The study's results indicate that the Gaussian regression model outperforms the negative binomial and log-linear models with an R2 value of 0.93 and a lowest MAPE value of 11%. This suggests that the Gaussian model provides a better fit to the data and more accurately predicts passenger demand. Hence incorporating probabilistic regression models and a comprehensive set of variables can address limitations in the current demand modeling process.

It has been more than a decade since the concept of Industry 4.0 was first introduced, yet experts have already begun to talk about what the next revolution will be: Industry 5.0. Over the past years, emphasis has been given to digitalization and the use of disruptive technologies to enhance efficiency and flexibility. Now, Industry 5.0 has shifted the focus to social priorities, being centered on the value of a human-centric industry and its service to humanity. Industry 5.0 is an extension of the Industry 4.0 paradigm, aiming to create a more conscious and responsible industry. It focuses on areas such as environmental protection, social responsibility, and adherence to fundamental rights. This strategy is not meant to replace the existing Industry 4.0, but rather to complement it into the future, allowing industry to co-exist with societal trends and needs, fostering the development of sustainable, resilient and human-centered systems. This paper aims to draw the link between Industry 5.0 and floating city production system as both address the pressing trends and needs of the present and the future. Floating cities offer a solution to land shortage problems faced in coastal areas by utilizing sea surface. This new market presents an opportunity to address the values of Industry 5.0, such as taking action against climate change, promoting the use of clean energy, and protecting the environment in order to create a brighter, cleaner, and healthier world. Sustainable development in this context is relying on Industry 5.0 principles to ensure progress in threatened areas and improve climate resilience. In recent years, participatory planning, which can balance diverse stakeholders' interests, is becoming popular in urban regeneration project. Among all the participatory approaches, design competition has gained great attention due to its efficiency in propagating the consciousness of participation, collecting residents' needs and strengthening the experts' involvement. However, the organizational structure of this rising approach in urban regeneration remains unclear. Based on this background, this paper examines an experimental city-level design competition in Shanghai, China. Using data from government documents, field study and participative observation, the phasing and the implementation process of this competition are studied, through which the organizational structure is implied. Specially, by discussing the implementation process of two case models, the key actors were revealed, setting subdistrict office as the leading role. Also, the significance of flexible cooperation mode and of wider communication platform are both emphasized.

Cambodia is one of the developing countries in Southeast Asia. Since the last decade, the construction industry has slightly improved through investment from foreign investors especially Chinese investors. The main focus of development is in Phnom Penh, the capital city of Cambodia. With the country's small population and low rate of advancement in the construction industry, Cambodia has faced the problem of a labor shortage considerably. This research aims to identify the causes of labor shortages and possible solutions or strategies to solve labor shortages problems in Cambodia. The research conducted a semi-structured interview with experienced experts, followed by a Delphi questionnaire survey. The finding of major cause of labor shortage is the government policy in maintaining wages of construction labor low in order to attract foreign investors. Contractors are preferably implementing solutions or strategies to cope with problems that can gain fast results in recruiting more labors.

This study seeks to understand the implementation of Community of Inquiry (CoI) practice in architecture students. The authors question the dominant factors in facilitating CoI practice in tectonic bamboo thinking in architecture pedagogy. Firstly, the three presences which are: cognitive presence, social presence and teaching presence of CoI framework are adapted to Bamboo Tectonic Education (BTE) presences. The adapted presences are then piloted in three group student projects, consisting of 27 students. Using the author's observations and peer reviews by group leaders, factor analysis is conducted, and preliminary observations are formed. This research has two-fold outcomes: the tested research instruments and the preliminary understanding of how teaching presence is the dominant factor in facilitating tectonic bamboo thinking integration to undergraduate programs. The significant teaching presence includes situated learning design, facilitating hands-on design thinking and managing design conversations. This finding highlights the role of creating a conducive collaborative learning environment tailored for bamboo design in a non-traditional classroom setting is vital. Future research includes further modification of research methodology.

Marine tourism is an integral part of the tourism economy, an industry related to traditional fishing, and a different sector. Marine tourism is a new industry that utilizes marine resources, motivates tourists to travel, and meets the needs of modern people. However, marine tourism development has invited problems such as ecological destruction, environmental pollution, and lack of facilities. Therefore, we focused on marine tourism management and empirically examined regional management in Zamami Village, particularly the earmarked taxes policy. This paper conducted a literature review to collect and analyze data on Zamami Village. In addition, a field survey was conducted to understand the environmental problems that have emerged with marine tourism development and their countermeasures, as well as the effects and impacts of regional development policies in Zamami Village and the Churashima Tax as a regional management strategy. Based on the above, we analyzed the various regional management strategies related to the operation and management of marine tourism, paying particular attention to the Churashima Tax. We have shown the actual conditions and results of Zamami Village's regional management, verified how such expected effects function through empirical analysis of the Churashima Tax and discussed the issues involved. The results indicated that the village would continue to fulfill its wise regional management.

Urban road street cross-section has components such as main carriageway, service road, NMT track, Footpath, median, and multi-utility zones, each meant to provide a smooth and safe vehicular and pedestrian traffic flow. It is needless to emphasize the need to make our cities pedestrian-friendly, as it directly impacts pollution control, the health and safety of the citizens, and general well-being in all respects. This research proposes a cost-effective, easy-to-implement design solution that excludes or inhibits the movement of two-wheelers from using the footpaths meant for pedestrians and persons with disabilities (PWD), especially wheelchair users. The proposed design solution was validated through Swept Path Analysis using vehicular simulation tools, on-site experimentation, and calibration. The final design proposal uses the existing products for controlling accessibility on footpaths, like using concrete bollards. Still, the solution lies in the placement and spacing of these design elements on varying cross sections/widths of footpaths. The final solution is in the form of a series of triple bollard system (TBS) meticulously designed, calculated, calibrated, and validated drawings along with strategies to discourage the two-wheelers from using footpaths and cycle tracks meant otherwise for pedestrians/cyclists and thus creating barrier-free and user-friendly walkways across the urban landscapes, through minimum governance and on-site traffic regulation.
