This paper presents a vision for a sustainable and smart floating structure solution (S2FS2) in Hong Kong. It highlights the key features of S2FS2, particularly the adoption of a hybrid approach combining both floating structure solutions and conventional land reclamation for the creation of habitable land from the sea. The paper discusses the challenges and opportunities in deploying a hybrid floating development. These include: examining sustainable and cost-effective construction strategies and materials for floating platforms and superstructures in view of the highly corrosive environment in Hong Kong;the optimal designs of multi-purpose floating platforms to carry a range of superstructures designed to meet various spatial programmatic and functional requirements and sites at different water depths;designing easy-to-instal, reliable, and durable connector systems for joining floating modules under the combination of dynamic (impact and fatigue) loading and a corrosive environment;rapid and precise on-site assembly of floating structures situated at different water levels using innovative construction technology and construction management;active control of dynamic structural movements in the sea during construction and service stages, particularly given the frequency of typhoons in Hong Kong;quantifying the ecological and environment impacts;and obtaining social acceptance. This paper also presents the estimated cost savings using a hybrid approach when compared to a conventional land reclamation approach based on the example of a proposed solution for the Kau Yi Chau artificial island (1000 ha).

Integral climate-adaptive solutions in urban development are urgently needed to protect the safety and security of people's lives around the world. Especially in delta regions that contain some of the densest concentrations of cities, such as the Netherlands, there is a large demand for flood-resilient developments. As the Dutch long tradition of managing water by fighting against it is expected to not suffice to protect the country in the long term, a need to adopt alternative strategies that work with water, rather than against it, is finally recognised by the Dutch national government. The recent administrative agreement to make 'water en bodem sturend' (water and soil as a guiding principle) in developments bears witness to this. In delta regions as dense as the Netherlands, flooding threats call for solutions that combine space for water retention with space for other large transitions, such as urbanisation, energy and mobility. This forces urban planners and designers to invent new types of living environments where the large transitions are tackled integrally. It requires including socio-economic, ecological and climate-adaptive considerations all in one urban environment. This paper discusses a research-by-design project that explores floating, high-density urban developments in various Dutch contexts as a fitting solution. It also discusses the most important findings of the research, an answer to the question: how to design resilient floating cities in a Dutch context? The research has indicated key urban design principles for the design of floating city development in the Dutch context, following the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and preparing for the long-term 'next SDGs'. The key principles address how to achieve a high quality integral urban design in terms of urbanity (density, function mix), inclusivity (affordability, accessibility), ecology and feasibility (financial, constructive). Currently, the number of construction and/or rehabilitation projects of educational centers, due to the effects of natural disasters, is much higher than other sectors (such as health and drainage), around 57.36% of projects executed are schools. In this sense, the approval process for each project must be carried out as soon as possible to satisfy the demand;but the approval process of each project is slow because it is a task done manually. For this reason, this research focuses on optimizing the time required for the check of BIM models of schools by public entities, through the semi automation of rules using the Smart View tool of the BIMCollab Zoom software;it is carried out by means of data collection, identification of the check process executed, real time information recording for the development of the new proposal and the automation of the check of rules for the model under pre-established criteria.

In order to optimize the envelope of residential buildings in the summer and winter cold areas, the influence of external wall insulation material on the intermittent operation effect of prefabricated trench floor radiation system was studied. And the indoor air temperature, thermal response time, the total cumulative hot/cold load and total annual cumulative load was integrated as evaluation indicators to evaluate the various schemes through the entropy weight TOPSIS method. Thus, the optimal insulation material and insulation form were proposed. The results show that when 200 mm aerated concrete block is used as the main material of the exterior wall, the forms of external insulation and internal insulation are respectively adopted, and the comprehensive score is ranked as Rigid polyurethane > Extruded polystyrene board > Glass wool > Expanded polystyrene board > Rock wool. The thermal conductivity is more important than the heat storage coefficient. The smaller the thermal conductivity, the better the thermal insulation performance. In addition, external insulation forms are better than internal insulation.

The purpose of this experimental research based on physical and mechanical tests is to analyze three brands of Portland GU cement widely marketed in the construction industry of Honduran in civil works in order to have scientific evidence documenting their behavior in hydraulic concrete. With the results obtained, the compressive strength at 7 and 28 days [f'c] according to ASTM C39 and the slump according to ASTM C143 were compared through current standards. The results obtained are as followed: Wan Peng with a compressive strength of 5907.51 psi and its slump of 6.25 in, Bijao with 4282.01 psi and 2.09 in and finally Argos with 4024.82 psi and 4.08 in respectively, Wan Peng cement is in the national market since 2018 and shows results of mechanical parameters in hydraulic concrete superior to those obtained with other brands that are older in the country. It is recommended to perform a physicochemical analysis of Wan Peng cement as well as an iterative analysis that provides a different water-cement ratio, also different applications could be performed with this cement for example about soil stabilization and manufacture of blocks in the latter to see the thermal behavior when used in the construction of houses and buildings.

Underground nodal space is an important part of the underground space environment as the focal point of pedestrian communication in underground space and the turning point of space sequence. With the gradual completion of China's urbanization process, the high density of urban population has brought a series of problems to the city, from the perspective of ease of use of underground space to create a good underground space to alleviate the pressure of the urban population on the ground, and to solve the "urban disease" provides a good countermeasure. This paper improves the calculationmethod of detour degree of underground space based on spatial barrier model, and uses it to calculate the mean value of detour degree of each nodal space in underground complexes of cold cities, which is used for the measurement and calculation of its accessibility, to provide a program for the quantification of the accessibility of underground space, and to provide a proposal for the spatial creation of the underground nodal space, so as to provide ideas and suggestions for the improvement of the detour degree of underground nodal space in cold cities in the future.

Effective transportation infrastructure planning requires road agencies to develop a sequential Travel Demand Model (TDM) process, beginning with Trip Generation. This involves using the total number of person-trips generated in specific areas as the dependent variable, with Household (HH) and socioeconomic factors as independent variables influencing travel behavior. In India, accurately collecting household information and trip characteristics is challenging due to dynamic travel patterns influenced by socioeconomic and urban development factors, making secondary data unreliable over time. Trip rates, indicating the average number of trips per unit of a specific factor, are essential for understanding travel demand trends. This study examines travel patterns in Surat, Gujarat, India, using data from one thousand households collected through home interviews. It investigates the relationship between Per Capita Trip Rates (PCTR) and household variables such as size, vehicle ownership, income, students, and earners, based on previous studies and mobility plans for Indian cities. The hypothesis testing showed no significant difference between the sample mean and population mean at a 10% significance level, with Surat's mean trip rate estimated at 1.57. Specific trip rates for work, education, shopping, and other activities were 0.82, 0.46, 0.13, and 0.16, respectively. Analysis revealed a negative correlation between household size and trip rates, and a positive correlation between earning members, income groups, and vehicle ownership. Regression analysis using Linear Regression (LR) and Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) highlighted the unpredictability of infrequent trips like shopping and recreation, while regular work and educational trips showed significant relationships with household variables. The study provides valuable insights into Surat's travel behavior, aiding future trip production estimations as the urban population grows.

Slack-moored floating offshore wind turbines (FOWTs) may experience low-frequency motions. In fact, in the Fukushima demonstration FOWT project, low-frequency motions were observed not only in storms but also in relatively calm sea states. Low-frequency motions could cause damages to the slack-mooring system and the power cables that transmit electricity generated by the turbine. Furthermore, the low-frequency motion in yaw could cause damages to the connection part of the nacelle and the tower. Suppressing low-frequency yaw motion requires an accurate understanding of the cause and the characteristics of the motion. To do so, numerical simulation of a slack-moored 15 MW FOWT has been conducted in two or three wave components. The results indicate that the low-frequency yaw motion and resonance could occur at various frequencies.

Sustainability goals in developing coastal projects are often missing of carbon neutrality in them or misleading their carbon offsetting schemes to merely justify short-term economic gains, regardless of the timely necessary establishment of coastal and local carbon sinks following the 'below 2 degrees C' objective of the Paris Agreement of United Nations Framework Convention for Climate Change. As one of such potential carbon sink-inspired coastal mitigation projects, multiple near-coastal floating architectures that sequester in situ aqueous CO2 from seawater, and submerged artificial reefs that store precipitated carbonate minerals and provide adequate wave protection to the floating architectures, are designed along the east coast of the Korean Peninsula. In this conceptual planning of an oceanic architecture and near-coastal CCS plant site development, we argue that these ex situ carbon storages managed by permanent boarding communities on the shallow seabed in near-coastal waters but outside any urban bay are plausible coastal development solution of climate mitigation among sustainable coastal communities.

Grand waterfront living is popular throughout the world including Singapore. The Reef at King's Dock (RKD) condominium project, featuring a 180-m-long floating sundeck with swimming pools, promises to provide residents and guests a spectacular seaside experience. The prestressed concrete pontoon-based floating structure has a design life of 50-year with minimum maintenance. The RKD floating sundeck is 180 m long, 11.7 m wide, and assembled using three separate 60 m long concrete modules end to end. The module depths vary from 5.0 to 5.2 m. The structure is designed to float in water depth of 8.3 and 12.5 m in low and high tide, respectively. The floating sundeck is cast off-site and towed to its final location. The whole sundeck is targeted to be completed in 2024 and will become the region's first floating swimming pool and one of the largest concrete floating structures in the region.
