This study aimed to investigate the structural behavior of the steelconcrete connection under monotonic loading, utilizing different types of concrete. Both experiment and finite element analysis under the same conditions were performed. First, three specimens with embedded steel anchors were cast using three different concrete materials, which were ordinary Portland cement concrete, geopolymer concrete, and prepacked concrete. The pull-out test was performed to observe the failure modes of each specimen occurring in the form of cracking, crushing, and other forms of concrete failure. The load-displacement relationship of the structures was measured so that the ultimate capacity could be determined. Second, finite element analysis using finite element code, COM3D employed the same experimental conditions and was carried out to observe the nonlinear behavior of structural concrete and verify the pull-out test results. In both the experiment and analysis, the highest ultimate tensile capacity was obtained from ordinary Portland cement concrete, followed by prepacked concrete. The geopolymer concrete showed the lowest ultimate capacity. Load-displacement relationship obtained from the experiment and analysis showed a similar trend. The difference in stiffness attributed to the interface between steel and each concrete type could be observed. In the experiment, the ordinary Portland cement concrete and prepacked concrete exhibited shear failure behavior;however, geopolymer concrete showed splitting tensile failure. On the other hand, the analysis results showed splitting tensile failure in all cases.

Gravity expansion foundation is the primary form of onshore wind turbine foundations. Because the prefabricated foundation is a developing trend for wind power structure system, assembly foundation with combinations of key-tooth joints and prestressing dry connections is proposed for onshore wind turbine system in this paper. To examine the mechanical performance and effect factors of this newprefabricated foundation structure, the stability and load-bearing capacity of typical prefabricated foundation structures are analyzed. Structural response characteristic values of prefabricated foundation structures, including foundation void ratio, steel bar stress levels, and concrete compressive stress, are analyzed. The results showthat the reinforcement of shear key construction is the controlling factor in the stress calculation of steel bars in prefabricated foundation structures.

The authors focus on the MPS particle method and evaluate the applicability of its two-phase flow model to submarine landslide phenomena through the reproduction calculations of past model experiments. Then, we study the basic characteristics of impact pressure exerted on the mooring anchors of the offshore wind turbines caused by submarine landslides occurring in coastal areas. The results show that the high-density fluid model of the MPS can qualitatively reproduce the submarine landslide phenomenon up to a flow distance of 50 m in the case of a pure sand, and the effect of submarine landslide flow occurring in coastal or marine areas around a water depth of 60 m on fixed mooring anchors is significant.

There is an increasing tendency to buy bigger cars, especially SUVs, as a status quo symbol. Automobile companies observed an increased demand this year. This is likely to aggravate the already congested roads in most Indian metropolitan cities. Many signalized intersections are experiencing long queues and longer waiting times. Unlike public transport, which carries more passengers for the space it occupies, SUVs have a lower vehicle occupancy. Many studies have been conducted on SUVs based on the safety, environment aspects while there is a gap in studying the impact of SUVs on traffic. This study proposes an impact assessment of the penetration of SUVs through simulations. Vehicle pooling is also assessed as an alternative. The study has been conducted on Silk Board junction in Bangalore with peak hour and off-peak hour traffic. It was observed that up to 3 min in peak and 4 min in non-peak hour per vehicle for a 4 km ride can be saved if all cars are pooled while up to 2 min in peak and 5 min in non-peak hour per vehicle can be saved if only SUVs are pooled for the same journey. The results showcase that penalizing buying private SUVs as a mode of transport and incentivizing carpooling or adopting high occupancy vehicles to make them a lucrative option need to be done to improve the overall sustainability of urban transport. The study could help the policymakers to address the issue of this new trend of buying bigger private cars such as SUVs.

This research investigates the correlation between the expedited project delivery method, colloquially known as fast-tracking, and the achievement of project objectives, specifically focusing on predictability. Exploring an under-researched area, the study identifies influential factors affecting the predictability of construction projects utilizing the fast-track approach. The methodology involves systematic data collection from prior scholarly works and an online survey, with survey data rigorously analyzed using statistical tools like SPSS and EXCEL. Results reveal a rising prevalence of fast-track construction projects in the UAE, indicating a significant correlation with the number of such projects undertaken. The study ranks the top ten influencing factors on predictability, highlighting pre-project planning, experience of project team members, and applying lessons from previous projects as paramount. Limitations include potential survey bias due to responses from construction professionals and limited generalizability beyond the UAE context. Despite these limitations, the research addresses a gap in the literature, offering insights into the link between fast-tracking and predictability, and provides practical guidance for the construction industry by identifying key influencing factors through rigorous statistical analysis.

Random material is regularly utilized for constructing dam embankments. Although random material offers construction cost saving as well as environmental damage reduction, evaluation of random material shear strength is very challenging. Large size particles in random material prevent reliable data acquirement using regular field or lab test. Unfortunately, disastrous dam failure can originate from misinterpretation of random material shear strength. An in-situ large scale direct shear device, 70 cm x 70 cm x 30 cm, was devised by Indonesian Geotechnical Inztitute in collaboration with Bandung Institute of Technology and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. This device suits shear strength evaluation of random material in-situ. This manuscript presents a case study where the large-scale testing device was applied to investigate the spatial variability of random material shear strength in 6 locations of the Kuwil Kawangkoan dam, Indonesia. Test results indicated that the shear strength variability was attributed to the random material content itself, including granular-rich or fine grain-rich materials. This in-situ large test offers an appealing approach for evaluating shear strength and shear-strain behavior of random material. The testing results can be used to direct the decision in dam construction, whether the current design should be re-evaluated or be continued. Considering the simplicity, economic, and data that can be obtained, this in-situ large scale test is highly recommended as routine practice in a dam project.

The aim of this study is to propose the floating leisure and culture facilities in Saemanguem area, the southwest part of Korean Peninsula, which has been reclaimed by long seawall (33.9 km) as a national mega project since 1991. The Saemanguem project (409 km(2)) under reclaiming has land (291 km(2), 71%) and lake (118 km(2), 29%) together. Smart and green waterfront city of international cooperation area together with industry-research area, agro-bio area, leisure-tourism area, and hinterland city, and other facilities is going to be developed in the area. Existing adjacent city, Gunsan city, has not enough leisure and culture facilities. And near islands in beautiful archipelago (Gogunsangundo islands) have been connected with main land by bridges and visitors have been highly increased for tourism and business. Therefore, development of leisure and culture facilities is needed in Saemanguem area. Considering the advantages of floating architecture such as budget reduction and minimization of environment destruction from the artificial reclaiming, and easy responding to climate change, the required facilities on the lake will be desirable. Inland water space in Saemanguem area is a best place for floating architecture due to calm water surrounded by seawall. And also, differentiated signature building only in Saemanguem Lake could be realized through floating architecture concepts. In this conference, some ideas of architectural plan drawings and images based on floating solution are suggested and discussed.

The urban village's vernacular physical landscape and social problems were associated with the right to enjoy high physical and mental health standards and adequate food. The environmental conditions of urban kampong today are precarious due to high-density buildings and limited green space. The Productive Facade (PF), as a form of the Vertical Greenery System, is an approach to developing green space in limited space, considering that green space has the potential to drive urban regeneration and development. This research aims to evaluate whether PF could improve outdoor thermal comfort (OTC) and its impact on the rights of those affected by conducting actual climate tests using building models in an open field. The PF was placed in an east and west orientation using the pumpkin and sweet potato plant. We recorded the diurnal air temperature, humidity, wind velocity, and solar radiation to evaluate the wet bulk globe temperature (WBGT) and the thermal humidity index (THI). This research found that PF positively reduced both the WBGT and THI values and the duration of exposure to the high value of WBGT and THI on the west and east sides. It concludes that PF is a promising urban regeneration strategy through green space access, improved microclimate of urban villages, enhanced social cohesion, and food provision.

In recent years, developing novel ideas for precast foundations has become an important issue in onshore wind turbine foundations to improve construction efficiency and to replace the conventional in-situ casting process. In the precast wind turbine foundation, precast modules are assembled together and maintain the structural integrity through circumferential prestressing tendons and shear key tooth joint, where the performance of shear keyed joints is the most important issues studied here in this study. Based on the recent study and systematic analysis of the shear design methods available, formulae for shear keyed dry joints' shear resistance under slip failure and shear failure states is presented. The influence of shear keyed tooth number, presence of reinforcement and confining stress on the shear capacity of the joints are analyzed. The shear capacity is in proportion to the initial compressive stress at the joint, small confining stress results in slip failure while large one slows down the degree of shear failure. Finally, the behavior checking methods based on slip failure mode and shear failure mode are verified and suggested.

The availability of proper pedestrian infrastructures like sidewalks or crosswalks significantly affects the constructive performance of the road and also promotes walking commuters. The government of India has made significant investments in various pedestrian facilities including sidewalks, zebra crossings, foot-over bridges, and subways for safe walking and crossing of pedestrians. Despite the availability of these pedestrian crossing facilities, most of them are often disliked by pedestrians and are underutilized. The present study aims at identifying the factors that affect the utilization of various pedestrian crossing facilities. A questionnaire survey was conducted among 400 pedestrians in order to record their perception about the factors affecting the utilization of various pedestrian crossing facilities like Foot Over Bridges (FoBs) and crosswalks, at five different locations in Bhopal city. The descriptive analysis results reveal that the majority of the respondents are male students belonging to the age group of 15-29 years. The results show that 21% of the respondents have agreed that they would use the facilities when less no. of heavy vehicles are plying on the roads, 33% of the respondents have agreed that they would use the facilities when fellow pedestrians are present, 32% have agreed that they would use them when there are no criminal activities, 37% agreed on proper lighting, 47% highly agreed on the availability of direct approach, and 29% highly agreed on the presence of proper sidewalk. The findings observed from the study would help in formulating various policies measures and moderations for enhancing the usage of pedestrian crossing facilities in Bhopal and bringing down the pedestrian fatality rate at crossings.
