Pre-Engineered buildings are being widely used as industrial structures due to their light weight, column free spaces and various other benefits. The incorporation of reduced beam Section in industrial moment resistant frames is not presented in India. Using Reduced Beam Section connection, the seismic performance of industrial structures which have high importance factor is enhanced. This led to the analysis of Pre-Engineered building with reduced beam section for different spans. The parameter s in this study is RBS profile dimension. The dimensions of reduced section are varied for each span and analysed using the computer program, ***. The analysis observed that stress concentration at beam column joint is less in models with reduced beam section. Maximum response of the structure is at the reduced sections which ensure ductile behaviour under seismic excitations.

Contemporary guidelines for evaluation of human-induced floor vibrations normally introduce simplified hand calculation methods for prediction of dynamic characteristics and response of floor systems. On the other hand, finite element (FE) modeling is more suitable for analysis of floors with complex geometry and irregular framing layouts. Vibration prediction using the FEapproach usually involves both a modal analysis and a time history analysis that requires modeling of the time dependent walking force for calculation of the resultant floor response. The present paper investigates the efficiency of a semi-FE approach to predicting the vibration response due to walking of a real office floor. This method combines the modal properties calculated via an FE model with manual equations established by two widely recognized design guides to obtain the floor response. The contribution of multiple vibration modes and multiple harmonic components of the footstep frequency to the total response is considered. The response calculated using the semi-FE approach is found to compare well with that obtained from the time history analysis for a practical range of pacing rates covering both resonance and offresonance conditions. In addition, the predicted response is reasonably conservative when compared with the response level measured on the test floor.

One of the most vulnerable resources in nature is WATER. Due to global warming, the water gets evaporated from different sources drastically. The availability of fresh water sources is polluted by anthropogenic activities. So, the scarcity of drinking water also increases and the heavy metals, organic pollutant influence are very high in drinking water. Hence this requires high technological treatment to remove the pollutants before it is used for drinking purpose. The best way to overcome the scarcity of water is converting the seawater into drinking water, as of now so many methods are there for converting the seawater. Among all the existing methods, membrane process (desalination process) is most commonly used for converting the seawater into the drinking water due to its flexibility and easy operational process. But, the major drawback of this method is membrane cost, membrane lifetime, membrane clogging and electricity cost. To overcome these drawbacks, a new, emerging and effective technology to treat the seawater is Electrochemical Mediated Desalination (EMD). In this method, to treat the seawater with the help of graphite electrodes with 9 V DC supply were used. Here, achieve the maximum efficiency of this method with two different trails are 10.55% (trail-1) and 15.33% (trail-2) on the basis of reduction of chloride content present in the solution.

Concrete-filled steel tubes (CFSTs) have received growing attention, owing to their rapid construction, reduced labor requirement, and reasonable material cost. While in service, the CFSTs can be subjected to a variety of environmental and mechanical stressors, which make them vulnerable to subsequent loading events. Considering the high durability and strength-to-weight ratio of carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP), it has been used to enhance the structural response of the CFSTs under service loads. However, there is still a research gap regarding the response of CFRP-strengthened CFSTs subjected to lateral loads, such as vehicle collision, as well as water- and wind-borne debris impact. This motivation led to the development of a computational framework to evaluate the response of CFSTs with and without CFRP subjected to impact loads. In this study, a set of representative finite-element (FE) models supported by the experimental tests is developed for impact simulations. The response of the CFSTs is studied using a range of response measures, including internal forces and deflections, as well as the energy absorbed during impact. The investigation is further extended to a systematic effort on the influence of various design parameters related to CFRP, concrete, and steel tube. From the conducted investigations, the absorbed energy is identified as the critical parameter for such members' design under impact loads. A new procedure to design the CFRP-strengthened CFST beams subjected to impact loads is then proposed. The accuracy of the presented method is confirmed by comparing the absorbed energy from the section analysis to that from high-fidelity simulations. This study is concluded with a detailed example, illustrating the strengthening of CFSTs using CFRP sheets.

Since the demand for accelerated construction is increasing these years, much attention has been paid to accelerated bridge construction (ABC) methods. The self-propelled modular transporters (SPMTs) are widely utilised in the ABC method as a versatile transport carrier. However, since the limitation of the SPMTs method, several structural system conversions will happen during truss installation, and tensile stress will potentially appear at the upper chord of the truss. Moreover, it is worth noticing the dynamic effects caused by utilising SPMTs to lift the truss can enlarge the impact of tensile stress. As one type of prestressing, beams prestressed with external tendons can effectively reduce the tensile stress. In order to reduce the impact of cracks caused by tensile stress, the feasibility of adopting temporary external pre-stressing tendons is discussed combined with the simulation results of MIDAS in this research.

Pavement cracks are difficult to monitor and quantify due to their complex texture and easy to be disturbed by noise and illumination. To solve this problem, a road crack monitoring and quantification method based on vehicle video is proposed. First, a method for extracting morphological features of dynamic road cracks is proposed. Combine automated vehicle-mounted equipment with GPS signals to obtain crack images with location information. Then, a calculation algorithm of crack parameters based on the combination of UK scanning grid and projection method is proposed, which uses the reverse engineering principle of perspective transformation to correct the image and divides the entire image into grid blocks. Finally, based on the analysis of different crack grades, the crack distress evaluation method is improved. The experimental results show that the proposed method has strong reliability and adaptability and achieves high-frequency and wide-range road detection.

The recent interest in expanding the scope of application of Fibre Reinforced Polymers (FRP) in the construction industry has been a driver of copious research. The favourable mechanical properties of FRP make them suitable for internal reinforcement of concrete elements with specific service conditions. Nonetheless, the low Young modulus of glass fibre reinforced polymers (GFRP) and basalt fibre reinforced polymers (BFRP) has been a concern, as it negatively affects the serviceability performance of flexural composite reinforced concrete elements. Prestressing has emerged as a possible method for limiting the deflections and cracking and has been shown as effective in numerous papers. However, long-term behaviour of such structural members has not yet been investigated extensively;therefore, this paper aims to give information on long-term behaviour and losses of prestress of pretensions BFRP beams. The experiment was conducted on six BFRP pretensioned concrete beams. The samples were of equal dimensions and reinforcement, with pairs of different prestress levels: two beams prestressed to 20%, two to 30% and two prestressed to 40% of the ultimate tensile capacity of the BFRP bars. The beams were then subjected to long-term sustained loading, equal to approximate working permanent loads. Strain level in the BFRP bars was electronically recorded, as well as deflections, surface strain and cracking of the elements. The paper presents the results of six months of continuous monitoring, as well as results of final destructive four-point bending testing.

Superstructures such as reinforced concrete bridges, often suffer from exposure to extreme corrosive environments. The corrosion of the reinforcement leads to a decrease of their capacity and their structural performance needs to be upgraded with strengthening measures. Lately, the use of Fiber Reinforced Polymers (FRP) in retrofitting schemes has attracted a lot of attention. In this paper the interface response of adhesively bonded Carbon FRP (CFRP) fabrics applied on concrete substrates is investigated. This paper deals with the study of the integration of CFRP fabrics using different adhesive layers as the composite's matrix, first using a conventional adhesive and next using an enhanced toughened adhesive layer. Two different scenarios of substrate integrity were studied: a) healthy concrete and b) substrate with corrosion products. The bond-slip behavior of the interfaces between concrete and the laminated fabrics was investigated with a modified double shear test configuration. The use of the toughened matrix increases the shear stresses up to 61% in failure, nonetheless in significant lower ratio of strains. The corrosion reduces the maximum shear stresses of the interface up to 20% and the corresponding strains up to 23% in failure. For the scenario were the toughened matrix was used, there is a shift in the response from a pseudo-ductile to linear with a tendency to fully elastic. The crack propagation is depicted in distinct stages. The use of toughened adhesive layers with reduced stiffness shifts the mindset of creating high stiffness retrofitting solutions to achieve high mechanical performance and still ensures an efficient strengthening response.

The identification of landslide-triggering rainfall thresholds plays an important role in providing early warning information and implementing emergency remedial actions before landslide occurs. In this study, fully coupled hydromechanical model was conducted to establish intensity-duration (I-D) thresholds for shallow landslides upon rainfall. The numerical model was first verified against measurements obtained from a full-scale field test for slope. The simulation result shows good agreement with the experimental results, indicating that the proposed numerical model is appropriate for use in the simulation of unsaturated soil slope behavior subjected to rainfall infiltration. This approach was then used to determine new I-D thresholds for shallow landslides considering the different hydrological conditions. Finally, the critical rainfall threshold curves obtained for the study were compared with shallow landslides historic data. The result revealed that antecedent soil moistures through initial soil suctions is a critical factor affecting the I-D thresholds. The majority of landslide data recorded from literature through case studies located within the proposed thresholds corresponding initial suction of 2-10 kPa. The findings of this study can be implemented into the current activities for predicting the occurrence of shallow landslides in the future in Vietnam.

The present work is focused on seismic assessment and retrofit of the beam-to-column joints of an existing non-conforming steel building. Refined finite element analyses were performed to investigate the performance of the existing beam-to-column joints under monotonic and cyclic loading conditions as well as the effectiveness of different strengthening interventions. The main features of these joints are the continuity of beams and hollow square columns interrupted at each level and connected by a bolted flange that is strengthened by fillet welds to the tapered flanges of the beams. The results of the finite element simulations show that the existing joints of the examined building exhibit very poor seismic behaviour, mainly due to failure of the welds. On the contrary, the strengthened joints have enhanced response. The comparison between the response of the unreinforced and the various retrofitted joints is described, and the best solutions in terms of both cyclic behaviour and technological feasibility are subsequently identified.
