The behavior of Textile Reinforced Concrete (TRC) under increased temperatures has been poorly investigated so far and has been a topic of increasing interest in the past decade. The lack of knowledge is even greater when it comes to the behavior of hybrid reinforcement layups, in which different fiber textiles are combined, and the effect of their coating. This paper focuses on the residual tensile behavior of TRC exposed to high temperatures with high heating rates (that correspond to a fire scenario). The investigated parameters are the fiber material (carbon fibers or glass plus carbon fibers) and the textile finishing (coated or uncoated). The specimens (thin tension coupons) were exposed to fire from both sides. Two fire tests were conducted following a standard fire curve (ISO 834) for 7 and 19 min and the reached temperatures at the coupons were approximately 200 degrees C and 300 degrees C, respectively, uniform through the coupons' thickness. The tensile test results that were conducted on the fire exposed coupons, indicated that the temperature effect on the hybrid layup TRCs is relatively small since the tensile strength and the post-cracking stiffness of the material are mainly controlled by the stronger and stiffer carbon fibers, which are unaffected by these temperatures. Additionally, for temperatures of this level, the effect of the coating seems to be limited, since the residual strength of the specimens with coated textiles was almost unaffected. The post cracking stiffness was either unaffected or even increased, depending on the textile finishing.

The use of carbon fiber (CF) anchors is becoming more common in structural retrofit applications. Typically, CF anchors are used to prevent or delay debonding of fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) laminates from concrete substrates, as in flexural strengthening applications. For seismic repair of reinforced concrete (RC) circular bridge columns, the role of CF anchors is typically to transfer large tensile forces from the column to adjoining members such as a footing or cap beam. Thus, the required CF anchor diameter should be large enough to resist the demand. The research presented in this paper focuses on the tensile behavior of 25 mm-diameter CF anchors to investigate the potential of large diameter CF anchors for seismic repair of RC circular bridge columns. To that end, the behavior of large diameter CF anchors was experimentally investigated through a number of pull tests to identify the impact of fan angle on the tensile rupture capacity. A unique test setup was designed and manufactured to test large diameter CF anchors. Based on the results of this study on commercially available 25 mm-diameter CF anchors, a 530 mm long fan with fan angle between 37 to 57 degrees is recommended with a dowel embedment depth of 380 mm When the anchor fan is well-confined with a transverse CFRP wrap a tensile capacity of 250 kN is achievable.

The purpose of this paper is to identify and assess the traffic revenue risks in Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) transport projects in Vietnam. This will assist project participants in managing these risks effectively in their projects. The study used two different data collection phases to do this, including a literature reviewand a questionnaire survey. The questionnaires were administered to two different primary stakeholder groups comprised public sector authorities (i.e. ministries, department, agencies) and concessionaires involved from conception to operation phase of BOT transport projects in Vietnam. The 15 detected traffic revenue risk indicators were classified into three main components by factor analysis in the study. This study is expected to assist policymakers and other stakeholders in formulating policy recommendations that would favorably impact the development of BOT transport projects in Vietnam and other developing countries.

As we knew, shielding is important as a protection for radiation. There is many materials used in fabrications of shielding including lead, water and natural fibre. Furthermore, various reinforced concrete has been developed around the world to improve the qualities and performance of concrete in construction and industry. Concrete is known to be strong in compression but weak in tension, which is why reinforcing is utilised to help with this. One technique to improve concrete's performance, particularly in terms of energy absorption capacity, is to incorporate fibres as reinforced concrete. Natural fibre is used to increase the concrete's strength and longevity. As a result, the performance of concrete as a radiation shielding material is automatically improved, and natural fibres are a good reinforcement material in concrete. Natural fibres as reinforcement are the safest and most environmentally friendly option because they cause no harm to the environment, are inexpensive, and may be consumed at any time. As a result, natural fibre is employed as a reinforcement in concrete to improve the shielding material's effectiveness. This paper contains reviews of the past studies undertaken by researchers over the past years or decades which has the similarity either preparation of specimens, machines or techniques used.

Hydraulic coupling triaxial test and acoustic emission test were carried out for Xiluodu basalt. The test results show that the peak strength of basalt increases with the increase of confining pressure, showing a typical hard brittle behavior. When the confining pressure remains unchanged, the peak strength decreases gradually with the increase of initial water pressure, and the hard brittleness decreases;Increasing the initial water pressure can promote the propagation of rock cracks, and the cumulative count of acoustic emission increases significantly with the increase of water pressure. Under the combined action of water pressure in the hole and external stress, the tensile failure occurs first and mainly in the internal cracks of basalt. Further, the functional relationship among crack initiation stress, confining pressure and water pressure is obtained through theoretical derivation and three-dimensional spatial data fitting. On this basis, the empirical relationship between critical water pressure, confining pressure and water pressure is established. The correlation is consistent with the test results, which has a good reference value for the study of critical water pressure of basalt crack propagation under hydraulic coupling.

The long-term performance of glass fibre reinforced polymer (glass-FRP, GFRP) materials used in civil engineering applications is influenced by several factors, such as their constituent materials, their production processes and quality level, and environmental factors, such as temperature, moisture, or ultraviolet radiation, among others. In the design of GFRP civil engineering structures it is important to ensure that the design values of material properties adequately account for the potential property reductions that may stem from ageing and exposure to environmental factors during service life. The first part of this paper presents an assessment of existing design guidelines for FRP structures regarding the recommendations they provide about the reduction of FRP mechanical properties due to moisture. The second part of the paper presents a survey of test data available in the literature concerning the effects of exposure to moisture in the mechanical properties of FRP materials with E-glass fibres and either unsaturated polyester or vinylester resins. The review comprised accelerated ageing tests carried out in water or saline solution immersion. The mechanical properties assessed included strength and moduli in tension, compression, and in-plane shear, as well as interlaminar shear strength. The third part of the paper compares the gathered experimental data with Arrhenius-type prediction models found in the literature, to ultimately derive a conversion factor to account for the material degradation in environments with high- and continuous exposure to moisture for a reference service life of 50 years, typical of civil engineering applications.

Carbon sequestration proved to be one of the best strategies in climate mitigation processes and forest have the capacity to sequester and store important amounts of carbon. In this study the carbon sequestration capacity of a hardwood forest in Eastern Romania is analyzed by using the European Information Scenario Model through a business-as-usual perspective. The results showed that under the actual management practices the forested area will increase in time. The volume of harvested wood will fluctuate, negatively affecting the increment and growing stocks. Although, the hardwood will store a total of 939.16 Gg C during the entire simulation, the sequestration capacity will decrease with 11%. It is important to mention that the input data is used from the management plan of the researched area. This method increases the confidence of the results, giving an insight for future research to define the best management practices in the studied area.

To dissipate energy, steel braces in concentrically braced frames are expected to sustain large deformations due to yielding in tension and global buckling in compression. During seismic events, braces can experience very large strain demands that can lead to brace rupture. Thus, characterization of behavior and evaluation of braced frame performance depends on adequately simulating force re-distributions following both buckling and fracture of the brace elements. In the past, the fatigue life of braces has been estimated by using the Coffin-Manson relationship and Miner's rule to evaluate the accumulation of damage based on strain or deformation histories. Typically, this model for low-cycle fatigue is considered only at the material level. However, when using force-based beam-column elements, strains at the material level are nonobjective and depend on the numerical model inputs, e.g., location and number of integration points used to model the brace. Therefore, using the same fatigue model with different numerical modeling parameters for the brace does not always produce consistent results. In contrast, deformations at the element level are little affected by the numerical model inputs. An objective fatigue model based on deformations at the element level is developed to calculate damage and fracture in brace elements. Results are compared to similar fatigue models implemented at the material and section levels. The new section and element brace fatigue models have been implemented in the source code of OpenSees.

Self-consolidating concrete (SCC) offers several potential benefits that derived from its unique flow characteristics: improved productivity and quality of concrete construction. The current ACI 440.4R-04 design guidelines does not account for SCC in flexural deflection predication of beams prestressed with Fibre Reinforced Polymers (FRP) bars. This paper presents results of flexural testing of four beams prestressed with 12.7 mm Carbon FRP bars. Two beams made from SCC and two beams made from normal vibrated concrete NVC. The prestressing levels were 30% or 60% of the guaranteed tensile capacity of the CFRP bars. Beams were tested under a four-point static bending load under displacement control. Measurements of load, midspan deflection, strain in CFRP bars and in the concrete were collected using a data acquisition system. Results was compared to two methods for flexural deflection predictions: simplified method based on (ACI 440.4R-04), and detailed analytical method from literature. The simplified method was based on effective moment of inertia approximation while the detailed method was based on effective moment of inertia and effective centroid calculations. In both methods, the actual concrete modulus of elasticity was used. Prediction of the midspan deflection based on the simplified method for SCC beams was unconservative after cracking. The experimental results correlated well with the detailed method at higher loads range for both types of concrete.

Portland cement concrete is a popular construction material but it has high carbon footprint and consumes significant natural resources. Using geopolymer and recycled concrete aggregates is an interesting approach to reduce the carbon footprint, the natural resource consumption. Limited studies in the literature have focused on geopolymer recycled aggregate concrete.
