The Dissipative Replaceable Link Frame (DRLF) is an innovative lateral load resisting system, recently developed, investigated, and further optimized in the European research projects FUSEIS, MATCH, INNOSEIS and DISSIPABLE. The system consists of two strong columns, which are rigidly interconnected by several horizontal beams, forming a vertical VIERENDEEL beam. The interconnecting beams are attached by bolted end-plate connections, making them easily detachable. These links are separated from the slab;consequently, they do not take part in the gravity load bearing function. The dissipative replaceable links being the only intended spots of inelastic action and therefore energy dissipation act as replaceable seismic fuses during a strong earthquake. After such an event, exchanging the beam links is foreseen to restore the structure to its undamaged pre-earthquake conditions quickly. Thus, the structure must possess sufficient re-centring capabilities. Recently an improvement of the initial DRLF system has been introduced within the DISSIPABLE research project: i.e. DRLF's joined by means of strong coupling beams, forming a Coupled Dissipative Replaceable Link Frame (CDRLF). These coupling beams are not intended to dissipate energy, but instead should remain elastic, in order to provide a source of re-centring. In this paper the basic concept of the DRLF and CDRLF is introduced and demonstrated by applying it to the design of a typical low- and mid-rise office building. The case study includes also two traditional Moment Resisting Frames (MRF). A rough cost comparison is made based on steel consumption, and the seismic performance of both strategies is investigated via non-linear static analyses. In comparison to MRF's it is shown, how the CDRLF approach is better suited for modern performance driven seismic design, focusing on reparability and cost effectiveness.

Currently, Vietnam is increasingly participating in the process of globalization and international integration, issue of corporate social responsibility has not been given adequate attention from both theoretical and practical perspectives in Vietnam. To ensure sustainable development for businesses and society, the issue of corporate social responsibility (CSR) is increasingly concerned. In the construction industry, the implementation of CSR activities has yielded some results, but there are still some limitations. Based on 135 observations samples from 27 construction companies listed on the Vietnam Stock Exchange during the 2014-2018 period, the study showed a positive relationship between CSR disclosure and financial performance, including the positive relationship of product CSR disclosure concerning ROA (Return on Assets).

The time overrun in construction projects causes cost escalation that leads to stoppage for a long time period or closing of the project. The various reasons for time overrun in construction projects from the scheduled time of project have been identified through various studies and research. This project work was carried out to examine those factors causing time overrun in construction projects and then find the mitigation methods that can be adopted to reduce or prevent time overrun. The study was done based upon the construction field workers opinion and developers in residential, commercial projects. This was carried out by a number of expert interview response by personal conversational interviewing and journal study was done to identify the various methods, techniques, process that can be implemented or followed to avoid time overrun and these were used to prepare the questionnaire. Based on the responses, the important methods, techniques that can be very influential in the omission of time overrun factors and probably reduce the construction time were identified by ranking the various methods, techniques. This study considered the sample frame and target population within India. For a developer, the main benefit of reduced or on-time completion of the project is an opportunity to make customer's feel satisfied and be their potential partner in future projects as well.

Slurry preparation and pressure maintenance of slurry balance shield should be carefully treated during tunneling in complex sand stratum. On basis of the slurry shield tunnel project in Fuzhou, slurry pressure was determined by two different theoretical methods. Then, an indoor test was conducted to explore the influence of constituents on slurry property. The influence of slurry properties on filter cake forming process under different slurry pressure was also analyzed through slurry penetration test. The test results indicate that the bentonite and silt soil had dominated influence on relative density, while the bentonite and CMC had dominated influence on viscosity. It is found that the water discharge, which is the index to evaluate the effect of filter cake, decreases firstly and then increases as slurry relative density increases. The water discharge also decreases as slurry viscosity increases. Meanwhile, the influence of viscosity on the water discharge was found less than that of relative density. Finally, a segmented slurry control scheme suitable for sand stratum in Fuzhou was presented.

Fiber (or fabric) reinforced cementitious matrix (FRCM) composites represent an attractive alternative to fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) composites as externally bonded reinforcement (EBR) of existing reinforced concrete (RC) and masonry structural members. Although FRCM composites generally provide lower mechanical properties than FRP composites, they are permeable to vapor, can be removed with limited damage of the substrate, and have good resistance to relatively high temperatures. FRCM composites have been increasingly adopted to strengthen existing masonry members, such as walls, vaults, and domes. Due to the large surface of these members, different pieces of fiber textile (fabric) need to be overlapped (i.e. lap-spliced) to guarantee the stress-transfer between composite and substrate for the entire strengthened surface (excluding the anchorage length). Therefore, the lap-splice length represents a fundamental parameter for the effectiveness of the externally bonded reinforcement. However, limited work was carried out to investigate the stress-transfer mechanism between lap-spliced fiber layers. In this study, a proposal to verify the minimum lap-splice length needed to guarantee the FRCM composite bond capacity in the case of overlapped textile, referred to as the effective lap-splice length, is put forward. The proposal is based on the comparison of the results of clevis-grip tensile tests and direct shear tests and it is validated by means of non-linear finite element numerical models of a PBO FRCM composite. The test procedure proposed can be used to verify the effective lap-splice length of FRCM composites required by current acceptance criteria and initial type testing procedures for inorganic-matrix composites.

Transformation toward greener, healthier and safer management of urban mobility demand is needed soon. Smart tools are available to assess the impact of new infrastructural projects and road facilities also from an environmental point of view. In this pilot study pollutant emissions at a sample of urban roundabouts were estimated employing the Vehicle Specific Power methodology which needs second-by-second speed profiles both gathered in the field and simulated in AIMSUN. The versatility of the micro-simulation model for a calibration aimed at improving accuracy of the emissions estimates was tested in order to ensure that second-by-second trajectories experienced in the field properly reflected the simulated speed-time profiles. The results confirmed the feasibility of the smart approach that integrates the use of fieldobserved and simulated data to estimate emissions at urban roundabouts. It is also revealed friendly in collecting information via smartphone and in the subsequent data analysis, and provided new opportunities for a large-scale data collection through a digital community.

Nowadays, there are two main types of sea dike: sloping dikes working based on pile foundation principle and vertical wall-typed dikes working based on gravity principle. Vertical wall-typed dikes are not widely used because of their complicated structure, construction and high cost. Sloping dikes were applied more widely than vertical wall-typed dikes because of their simple structure, construction and low cost. However, the cross-section of a sloping dike lets the wave run-up on the slope. Therefore, the wave run-up height has been higher than the wave height in front of the structure. It leads to an increase of thecrest level of sea dike. In many cases of designing, the wave overtopping was accepted to decrease construction cost. In this paper, the authors have applied a new structure: hollow structure (KCR), which works on both gravity principle and pile foundation principle by KCR sidestep shape dike. Authors also have used ANSYS software to simulate interaction of wave run-up and three sea dike structures: Tien Lang sea dike, outer revetment of Lach Huyen port and sloping dikes in the same environmental condition. Results have proved that the wave run-up height has decreased from 43.96 to 77.76%, crest level of the dike has decreased from 1.01 to 5.07 m, respecially, a construction cost has reduced to 40-70%. Those results have indicated that KCR will be ahigher quality and effective investment of sea dike.

Passenger train delay (PTD) prediction is an effective solution not only for rail operators to plan and solve their operation problems, but also for passengers to better plan or alter their travel schedules. As an endogenous variable, train delay profile or accumulated delay is normally used as a key variable to model train delay. In addition, several exogenous variables, especially ridership or station activities and population seem to influence train delay. This study develops and compares the performance of PTD prediction models using data-driven linear regression and ensemble learning methods with and without exogenous variables;the two exogenous variables examined are ridership and population. Three Amtrak passenger trains with different delay profiles and host-railroad performances from 2008 to 2019 are used as case studies to build the prediction models. The results indicate that the PTD predictionmodels using ensemble learning methods outperform the ones using linear regression (LR). Moreover, the results also indicate that the two exogenous variables had little to no impact on the prediction models using ensemble learning methods.

Resource leveling reduces the peak fluctuations in the resource requirement. Fluctuation in the resource requirement leads to construction delays, frequent hiring and firing of labors which affects labor productivity during the execution of the project. Resource-leveling problem (RLP) is a type of combinatorial problem that requires advanced problem-solving approaches to solve. Genetic algorithm (GA) is one of the well-adopted meta-heuristic approaches to solve combinatorial problems like RLP. The objective of this study is to determine the impact of different values of genetic algorithm operators from previous literature works to obtain the optimal values to perform genetic algorithm operations. A real-time construction project data is considered to study the relationship of genetic algorithm operators which leads to determining the optimal values.
