Land subsidence due to groundwater extraction is a serious issue in Mekong Delta Vietnam, especially when it combines with the sea level rise. Various models were established to study the problem. Usually, two steps models are used. First, the groundwater models are solved to obtain changes in the water table resulting in changes in effective stress. Then, land subsidence magnitude is calculated based on the one-dimensional consolidation theory. After analyzing carefully land subsidence models for the Mekong Delta, we would like to discuss here some concerns related to the described data and methodologies, which are related to (1) the inconsistency between the compression index and the specific storage, (2) the spatial distribution of parameters, (3) obtained parameters using the parameter estimation tool, (4) comparisons between INSAR data and model results.

During the operation of highway bridges, the bearing stiffness will decrease with the service life, and the mechanical properties will also change. In order to study the influence of stiffness damage on bearing. In this paper, a continuous beam bridge is selected for finite element model analysis, and the effects of stiffness damage on bearing force and bearing offset under the conditions of concrete shrinkage and creep and 30 degrees C temperature difference are comprehensively considered. The results show that the bearing stiffness damage has little influence on the vertical displacement, horizontal displacement and bearing capacity of the bearing, but has a great influence on the vertical compression deformation and durability of the bearing.

SupaCee section is formed by adding stiffeners in the web of the channel section, and it has been illustrated to be more stable and innovative than the traditional channel section. The member capacity comparisons between such two section members investigated in a companion paper showed that SupaCee was significantly beneficial for small and thin section members, but the reductions of global buckling strengths of SupaCee section members led to the lower capacities for long members compared to those of channel section members. These reductions can be prevented by using full bracing systems to avoid global buckling;this allows member capacities to reach sectional capacities. This paper, therefore, presents a study on sectional capacities of cold-formed steel SupaCee sections under compression or bending in comparison with those of channel sections.

Reinforced concrete is one of the most common materials in construction and knowledge of the behavior of reinforced concrete with lateral reinforcement has been one of the important topics in researches. Due to the high cost of laboratory studies, researchers have tried to develop numerical methods with the help of relationships obtained from analytical researches as well as various programs including finite element codes. In most studies, moment-curvature diagrams in reinforced concrete with confined cores have been significant in studying the behavior and performance of reinforced concrete sections. In this research, using analytical relations and applying MATLAB program, a suitable algorithm for calculating the moment-curvature in reinforced concrete columns with lateral reinforcement is presented. In this algorithm, the famous Mander and Kent and Park models are used and a method for eliminating the non-confined concrete cover during the analysis is proposed. Finally, the moment-curvature was obtained for 4 sections of reinforced concrete and compared with the KSU-RC program, which show a good agreement.

One of the main element in the network is the intersection which consider as the critical points because there are many conflict in this element. The capability and quality of operation of an intersection was assessed to provide a better understanding of the network's traffic efficiency. In Baghdad city, the capital of/Iraq the majority of the intersections are operated under the congestion status and with level of service F, therefore theses intersection are consider as high spot point of delay in the network of Baghdad city. In this study we selected Al-Ameria signalized intersection as a case study to represent the delay problem in the intersections in Baghdad. The intersection is located in the west of Bagdad city, this intersection realizes a huge traffic, and there are a lot of tourist attractions near to the study area. The aim of this research is to enhance traffic operations, improve the level of service and decrease the delay in Al-Ameria signalized intersection by examine four suggested alternative. Special teams with a special tools are collected traffic and geometric data for the intersection. HCS 2010 program are used in this study to measure the delay and evaluate the level of service in each approach and for the hall of the intersection. The result of this study show that the intersection is operated under the breakdown condition with level of service F for all approaches. The results highlighted that the fourth alternative is the best suitable suggestion to enhance the level of service for the intersection. The fourth alternative recommended to construct a flyover from the North bound towards the South bound the level of service improve from F to C for the base year and for the target year.

When determining the completion state of the main cable of a cable-way bridge, although the catenary theory can accurately consider the nonlinear mechanical effect of the cable, the iterative calculation is cumbersome and not convenient for engineering applications. Although the calculation based on the parabola theory is simple, the calculation accuracy for long cables is low. In this paper, based on catenary theory and considering the calculation accuracy and avoiding iterative calculation, a fast algorithm for the completion state of the main cable of the wire rope cableway bridge is proposed. The results show that the bridge state can be quickly and accurately determined by approximating the horizontal component of the cable tension and avoiding multiple iterative calculations. The proposed algorithm can be used in engineering design and construction.

To calculate the stability and deformation of the deep excavation in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) in particular and Vietnam in general often use the Finite Element Method (FEM) with Mohr-Coulomb (MC), Hardening Soil (HS) model. The HS model built based on the Hyperbolic model shows more progress than the MC model. The HS model also explains the dependence of the modulus on stress. The degree of dependence of stress is given by the exponent m. To simulate the dependence of the stress according to the logarithmic law, the exponent parameter (m) has different values depending on the soil type, the choice of the exponential parameter makes it difficult for engineers to correlate from experimental expressions because this amplitude is still relatively wide and gives a large difference in calculation results. This paper determines parameter m and the correlation coefficient E-oed/E-50 for soft soil in HCMC is based on the Oedometer test as identified in the HS model to calculate deep excavation.

Reinforced Concrete (RC) shear wall buildings are the most common construction practice in moderate to high seismic zones. Shear walls provide high strength, stiffness to the building system. However, the performance of RC shear wall buildings depends on various parameters like the location of shear walls, the aspect ratio of the shear wall, and the structural wall plan density. The revised Indian standards for earthquake-resistant design of structures states that RC structural wall plan density shall be at least 2% for buildings with open storeys, and for regular buildings it can be at least 2% along each principal direction. This manuscript aims to check the efficacy of the minimum structural plan density recommended in the revised Indian standard by evaluating the impact of varying structural wall density on the seismic performance of high-rise regular RC shear wall buildings located in the high seismic zone. The seismic performance of shear wall buildings with varying structural wall density is evaluated in terms of peak displacements, peak accelerations, and maximum inter-story drift by performing the time history analysis with different ground motion records. The effect of structural wall plan density on the dynamic properties of the buildings is also studied.

Bond strength of glass fibre reinforced polymer (GFRP) rebars after long-term thermal conditioning was experimentally investigated in this study. In this paper, the results of pullout specimens with 5db embedment length are presented which is part of a much larger study on the effects of climate change on FRP-reinforced concrete structures. Specimens were constructed with 16 mm nominal diameter sand coated GFRP bars and conditioned at 50 degrees C and 80 degrees C for 4 months to investigate the effects of long-term thermal exposure. Relative humidity of 60% was maintained while conditioning the specimens. Long-term thermal exposure induced significant reductions in the average bond stress values of the specimens. Specimens conditioned at 50 degrees C and 80 degrees C observed 10% and 23% reductions in strength, respectively. Overall, the GFRP bars performed reasonably well and the retained average bond stress for specimens treated at 80 degrees C was about 10.5 MPa which is still marginally greater than the minimum code specified limit of 8 MPa for design purposes. The 50 degrees C thermal treatment was designed to study the climate challenges of continuously increasing temperatures and 80 degrees C thermal exposure was devised to replicate the elevated service temperatures. Visual inspection revealed that GFRP bar's core had deteriorated after thermal exposure and the results of this study should be of interest to develop design guidelines to incorporate the thermal degradations.

Copper is one of many elements present in secondary raw materials. These coppers containing secondary raw materials can be utilized in the production of ordinary Portland cement (OPC). At laboratory conditions, copper significantly influences the formation of clinker melt and the main clinker phase-alite. For the scope of this research, differential thermal analysis (DTA), powder X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), optical microscopy (OM), and scanning electron microscopy with electron dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) methods were used for the investigation of the influence of copper on clinker. It has been confirmed, that addition of coppercontaining compounds to a raw meal has a significant intensification effect on the clinker melt formation. On the other hand, a decrease in the total alite content in the clinker with increasing CuO content has been observed. Observations were conducted on clinkers with CuO content up to 4wt.%. The addition of CuO also reduced burning temperatures of alitic clinker from standard industrial burning temperature of 14501250 degrees C. The decrease of 200 degrees C in burning temperature has applications for clinker production and reduction of emissions.
