There is a myriad amount of substandard reinforced concrete (RC) buildings in developing countries that do not comply with the requirements and instructions of the current building design codes. In particular, columns in these substandard buildings demonstrate unsatisfactory and undesired behavior against lateral loads, mainly due to low concrete compressive strength and poor reinforcement detailing. The problem is exacerbated when the axial load ratio (ratio of applied axial load to the axial load capacity) and/or the shear ratio (ratio of shear force corresponding to moment capacity (V-e) to the shear capacity (V-r)) is/are high, leading to brittle failure modes. In this study, three full-scale substandard RC columns subjected to high axial load ratio of 0.75 were tested under constant axial load combined with reversed cyclic lateral displacements. Shear ratio (V-e/V-r) of the substandard columns were 0.75 and 0.82 according to ACI 318-19 (ACI 318 (2019) Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete. American Concrete Institute, Farmington Hills, MI, USA) and (Turkish Building Earthquake Code (Turkish Building Earthquake Code (TBEC) (2018) Disaster & Emergency Management Authority, Ankara, Turkey), respectively. According to the TBEC (Turkish Building Earthquake Code (TBEC) (2018) Disaster & Emergency Management Authority, Ankara, Turkey), columns had a high V-e/(f(ctm)bd) ratio of 1.12, where, f(ctm), b, and d are the direct tensile strength of concrete, width of the cross-section, and effective depth of the section. The ratio of transverse reinforcement to minimum required transverse reinforcement according to the ACI 318-19 (ACI 318 (2019) Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete. The high quality and grade of latex or rubber skim for rubber industries products need to chemical added. Ammonia used in the preservation and processing ware contributed the high concentration of chemical oxygen demand (COD), color and ammoniacal nitrogen in natural rubber wastewater. Adsorption using agriculture material is one of new method in wastewater treatment for the removal pollutants and also environmentally friendly. In this study kenaf fiber has been used as adsorbent in wastewater treatment system and focus on COD, color and ammoniacal nitrogen removal from natural rubber wastewater. Alkali modification and acid modification on kenaf fiber were performed using 0.1 M sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and 0.6 M citric acid (CA). The efficiency of COD, color and ammoniacal nitrogen adsorption was investigated. Percentage removal of COD, color and ammoniacal nitrogen between kenaf fiber treated using NaOH and kenaf fiber treated with citric acid was compared. The maximum removal of COD, color and ammoniacal nitrogen were obtained at dosage 4 g of citric acid treated kenaf fiber with maximum adsorption is 80%, 75% and 86%, respectively. The removal of COD, color and ammoniacal nitrogen by kenaf fiber treated using citric acid more effective than the kenaf fiber which treated using NaOH in COD, color and ammoniacal nitrogen removal from natural rubber wastewater.

Radon is a naturally occurring gas that originated from the geology material. Most of the building materials like bricks, concrete blocks, aggregates and sand produce radon gas and it will exhale into the residential building. The high contamination of indoor radon gas in the residential building is very harmful to human health. Therefore, this study was conducted to investigate the indoor radon concentration in residential buildings as well as its relationship with building material and age of the building. The Radon Eye detector has been used to measure the indoor radon concentration. Based on the finding results, the indoor radon concentration of concrete type residence, 283 Bq/m(3) is higher than the wooden type of residence 14.13 Bq/m(3). However, few mitigations can be taken to reduce the indoor radon gas included to provide good ventilation system in the residence.

In to preserve this great heritage, the Centre for the Study of Built Environment in the Malay World (KALAM) has collected more than 600 buildings, mostly using the tanggam system. Malay house construction has an architectural value especially on the system used. Besides, features of traditional Malay houses can be refined from their spatial structure, function rooms that make up the various rituals and customs as well as artistic carvings on them. Interestingly, the construction of the traditional Malay house is measured using the human body scale. In general, the height of the housing is according to the size of the man's body (husband) while the area and size of the house are preferred by the size of the woman's (wife) hand. Other than that, construction of Malay traditional houses according to local customs. Most of the traditional Malay houses using wood in construction with the unique method by applying the tanggam. 'Tanggam' system is a method of joining woods (Sabil and Uterberta in Adv Mater Res 984-987, 2011). According to the understanding of Malays, tanggam means wooden building frame assembly in the experimental stage. The full pronunciation is 'tanggam-menanggam', while the tanggam means insert and match. The function of the use of tanggam is notched wood joints so close and sturdy (DBP in https://***/cari1?keyword=tanggam). This system is shown the least exposed and documented as a reference in the construction of Malay traditional houses. Based on the material in KALAM, this study will provide exposure related to the types of tanggam as well as their installation methods. The purpose of the tanggam is to connect wooden structures, strengthen the construction, maintain the aesthetic nature of the building and it makes it easier for craftsmen to sew and remove the construction because no nails are used. Externally bonded carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites have been instrumental in the flexural strengthening of concrete structures because of their high strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, rapid and easy installation, and reduced cost compared to complete or partial component replacement. However, a governing failure mode in most externally bonded CFRP applications is debonding from the concrete substrate, which limits the composite strength utilization and deformability. Improved performance, in terms of both deformability and ultimate strength, may be achieved with the addition of transverse U-wrap anchorage for longitudinally oriented CFRP tension reinforcement. Design guidance for U-wrap anchorage is, however, lacking due to the limited experimental data. This work reports on flexural test results from structural-scale reinforced concrete beams strengthened in flexure with externally bonded CFRP anchored with U-wraps. The parameter of interest is the ratio of the areas of U-wrap anchorage to flexural CFRP, which is varied between 3.2 and 9.6. Experiments employ a 3D digital image correlation (DIC) system to collect full-field displacement data that can accurately characterize the effects of U-wrap anchorage on the strain in the flexural CFRP as well as the failure origin and progression. U-wrap anchorage resulted in an increase in CFRP strain at ultimate flexural capacity of up to 68% with a corresponding increase in moment capacity and a change in failure mode. However, varying the ratio of the areas of U-wrap anchorage to flexural CFRP from 3.2 to 9.6 had little apparent effect on the flexural capacity of the beam.

Agricultural wastewaters can contain a lot of pollutants, so they can't be disposed of properly unless they're treated. Agricultural wastewaters, if improperly disposed of, can cause eutrophication of surface and ground waters, as well as impose substantial trade waste charges. Water scarcity in agricultural sector can be reduced by proper ground water recharge with treated agricultural wastewater. An ideal, economic and passive technology biological treatment facility is effective to replace chemical and physical treatment methods which would result in ground water contamination and are expensive. Microalgae are photosynthetic microorganisms that thrive in wastewater because of their rapid growth and adaptability [22]. Use of microalgae to remove nitrogen has many advantages. First, nitrogen is digested by microalgal cells which is used for biomass production as an essential nutrient factor. Biofuel production from microalgae could be more effective, with a smaller environmental footprint and no competition for arable land or biodiverse ecosystems. Present algae cultivation systems and lipid induction methods, on the other hand, need to be greatly enhanced. Optimal conditions to enhance the biomass production can be achieved with the help of photobioreactors in which the temperature, aeration, agitation and light intensities can be controlled. Thus, cultivation of Chlorella vulgaris and Scenedesmus obliquus in agricultural wastewater will serve as an integrated wastewater treatment option since it serves as an effective media for algal biomass production as well as the pollutants such as ammonia and phosphate can be effectively removed by selected microalgal strains. Rapid urbanization in developing countries is leading to urban sprawl along the fringes of the cities. The land use of the regions surrounding the Chennai metropolitan area is changing drastically. It is vital to monitor and quantify the land-use change and the urban expansion process to achieve cities with proper planning, efficiency and sustainability. This paper aims to determine the land-use change in the study area for the years 1998, 2009 and 2019 using remote sensing data. Shannon's entropy was utilized to assess the nature of urban growth happening in the study area. The study region was divided into 50 zones of concentric circles drawn from the central business district point. The rate of urbanization in each zone shows gradual increasing trend from 2009 to 2019, moving outwards with a maximum value of 36.9% in the last zone. Whereas from 1998 to 2009, the rate of urbanization increases rapidly to attain a maximum value of 85.6% in the 31st zone and thereafter the value got decreased. Relative Shannon's entropy asserted that the city displayed a dispersed development from a distance of 12, 14 and 18 km from the city centre for the years 1998, 2009 and 2019, respectively.

The resilient modulus (MR) is a crucial parameter, reflecting the dynamic stiffness and structural response of subgrade pavement materials. However, the repeated load triaxial tests to directly measure the MR are complicated, timeconsuming, and expensive. Thus, an alternative manner of calculating such values needs to be constructed. In this paper, the backpropagation algorithm is used to construct an artificial neural network (ANN) model to predict the MR of unbound materials. The database used in the development phase of ANN consists of 9 input parameters, such as the percentage of particles passing through a 200 sieve, plasticity index, liquid limit, percentage of optimum moisture content, percent of moisture content, soil saturation degree, confining stress, deviator stress, and the unconfined compressive strength. The target of the proposed ANN model is MR values. The dataset is split into two subsets, namely the training dataset, which accounts for 70% of the total data, and the testing dataset, containing the remaining 30% of data. The results show that the proposed ANN algorithm could successfully predict the values ofMR, based on several performance criteria such as the coefficient of determination (R-2), root mean square error (RMSE). It could thus be concluded that theANNmodel is a highly efficient alternative manner for quick estimation of MR and can be used as an advisory tool for engineers.

A new hybrid floor system comprising embedded glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) I-beams and GFRP stay-in-place (SIP) structural forms as bottom reinforcement and top GFRP rebar is developed for rapid floor construction. The SIP forms are flat plates with T-up longitudinal ribs spanning the 1200 mm spacing between the I-beams and supported on the bottom flanges of the I-beams. In this study, a robust three-dimensional finite element (FE) model is developed and is capable of simulating the concrete nonlinear behavior in tension and compression, composite failure of the FRP systems, and various contact types;including between SIP form and concrete;SIP form and I-beams;and the I-beams and concrete. Two independent flexural test programs, including tests by the authors and tests reported in literature, were used to calibrate the model. Following calibration, the FE model will be used in an extensive parametric study to investigate different parameters impacting the new floor system.

Competency is important for every profession where it is needed to ensure the efficiency of a person while carrying out their task. Furthermore, with the emergence of Industry 4.0 recently, there is a need for an improved competencies model for Quantity Surveyor. The objective of this study is to develop an improved competency model for Quantity Surveyor complete with Industry 4.0 enabling technologies that currently emerge nowadays. To achieve the above objective, a pilot study should be conducted on the target respondents, namely Quantity Surveyor. However, before the pilot study can be conducted, pre-testing on the research questions is done through the Content Validity Index (CVI) that involves the expert validators consist of academicians and industry experts. This paper intended to describe a systematic approach to quantify content validity in the form of content validity index best practice. The output of the CVI identified seven (7) parameters for non-technical competencies, ten (10) parameters for technical competencies, and twelve (12) parameters for enabling technological that are appropriate to be used in the questionnaire questions. Eventually, the output for this research will develop a comprehensive competency model for Quantity Surveyors where it is embedded with Industry 4.0 technology enablers.
