Hollow core flat slab is currently a superior solution compared to traditional reinforced concrete slab in today's construction to help save materials, reduce construction time, thereby saving construction costs significantly while providing a variety of functionality. It brings cool and airy spaces while saving energy in line with the trend of green construction and sustainable energy development in Vietnam and in the world as well. This paper aims to examine the methods of structural calculation and stress analysis of hollow core flat slab through actual cases and then, compare the results of the calculation methods with the measured ones at the actual projects using hollow core flat slab. The finite element method of 3D modeling in commercial Etabs and Ansys software was used to simulate the stresses of the hollow core slab and the column mushroom area. A few simple formulas to calculate the equivalent exchange of flexural stiffness and slab weight were used in analytical methods. The results show that if using Etabs software in the design, the stress and deflection calculated by the wall method are the closest to reality while the slab method gives the biggest error. The achieved results and analytical data of this study can be used as a reference for engineers.

Several studies have shown that the application rules of the capacity design principle suggested for chevron braced frames are often not effective in preventing yielding or buckling of the columns of the braced frame. Indeed, the design procedures available in literature or in seismic codes either neglect or significantly underestimate bending moments in columns. These bending moments are negligible when braces are in the elastic range of behaviour, but they may become significant because of concentration of the interstorey displacement demand when the braced frame overcomes its elastic range of behaviour and braces of a few stories experience large inelastic deformations. The high values of bending moments undermine the seismic performance of concentrically braced frames if yielding or buckling of the columns occurs prior to the full exploitation of the ductility capacity of braces. A simple procedure has been recently proposed by the authors to estimate the bending moments in columns of braced frames at the achievement of the ductility capacity of braces. In this paper, the abovementioned procedure is applied to predict bending moments in columns of concentrically braced frames in the chevron configuration designed according to different design procedures available in literature. To assess the effectiveness of the procedure, the predicted values of bending moments are compared to those obtained by nonlinear dynamic analyses with reference to peak ground accelerations leading the structure to either significant damage or near collapse limit state.

This paper presents the use of relative importance index (RII) technique combined with fuzzy logic and thereby supporting the contractors early to the bidding stage so that possibilities of delay in the construction of desalination plants in Lakshadweep islands can be predicted. To achieve the objective, 76 delay issues are recognized, characterized into 10 major sets through a comprehensive literature study in addition to telephonic discussions with construction professionals who are involved in the desalination plant construction in Lakshadweep islands. The relative reputation of these delay issues and sets is measured using the RII technique. Ranking between issues with sets is established conferring to stages in outcome towards delay. Delay valuation pattern is suggested by making use of a fuzzy set of delay issues in the desalination plant works in Lakshadweep islands. The valuation model is done by making use of a commercial software product. This planned procedure is verified in an actual study while the delay in the scheme is assessed to be satisfactory.

In recent times, floating offshore platforms have become mainstream in Vietnam's oil and gas industry. The platforms are usually kept by mooring line systems. In the shallow water conditions of Vietnam, the mooring lines are mainly made up of chains. For existing floating offshore platforms, the mooring lines' strength is reduced due to local corrosion after a period of operation. In this paper, a numerical investigation of the locally corroded mooring chain system in Vietnamese conditions is conducted to evaluate its strength. The research results could be used as a reference for re-evaluation of mooring system strength for renewal and reuse of floating offshore structures in Vietnamese conditions.

In order to achieve a more resource-efficient society and a future with reduced carbon dioxide emissions, new technological challenges must be dealt. One way to reach a more sustainable world is to start re-using end-of-life structures and waste and give them a "Second Life" with new functions in the society. As fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) composites are lightweight, strong, stiff and durable materials, there is great potential to re-use decommissioned FRP structures for new resource-efficient solutions in the building and infrastructure sectors. The present paper investigates innovative solutions in re-using wind turbine blades and glass fibre reinforced polymer (GFRP) pipes as structural elements in new bicycle and pedestrian bridges. Specifically, a concept design for decking system made of GFRP pipes is developed and discussed. The main design requirements for pedestrian bridges are considered and assumptions regarding end-of-life GFRP quality and their mechanical properties have been addressed. The aim of this paper is to contribute to a sustainable use of GFRP waste and at the same time provide a more cost-effective solution for short span pedestrian bridges. In a larger perspective, the authors would like to highlight the economically profitable potential of recovering and reusing/re-manufacturing end-of-life GFRP composites.

This paper studied on the behaviors of RC beams strengthened with three surface-steel cover. All tested beams were prepared with their dimensions of 150 x 150 x 900 mm and experimented under three-point bend test. There were two types of concrete used: M200 with its compressive strength of 20.53 MPa and M300 with its compressive strength of 31.55 MPa. For each concrete type, the beams were strengthened by three-surface-steel cover at three levels of thickness: 0 mm (no cover), 1.2 mm and 2.0 mm. The experimental result revealed that the load carrying capacities of the tested beams were clearly enhanced with increasing of the steel cover thickness. In comparing to the beam with no steel cover, the load carrying capacities of the beams using M300 increased 2.18 times and 3.07 times with steel cover thickness of 1.2 mm and 2.0 mm, respectively, while those using M200 increased 2.51 times and 3.89 times with steel cover thickness of 1.2 mm and 2.0 mm, respectively. The prediction of flexural resistance was also performed though sectional analyses.

A Duplex House is one of the type of dwellings that has apartments with separate entrances (main doors) for two different families. In simple words, it has two separate flats within the same structure. Apartments of this type are more economical to build. Underground Parking is a structured parking built below the ground level. The vehicle is prevented from heat, rain and other external forces. On the other hand, the space that is saved on the ground can be used for garden, lawns and other purposes. The plan, section and elevation of the building have been made in the AutoCAD;keeping in mind the NBC norms. The 3D structure of the building has been analyzed in the STAAD. Pro;and shear force and bending moment diagrams have been studied. After considering financial and economic factors, it was found that the duplex house is more economical for metropolitan cities like Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, New Delhi, Bangalore and Hyderabad;where population density is very high. Preservation of the prime real estate is one of the long-term benefits of underground parking;that offers convenient parking and removing parking structures from street frontage (thus enhancing the facade of the structure).

Low-yield-point steels (LYP) have lower- and narrower-range yield strengths-, and better elongation than conventional steels. These steels are adapted to tall buildings and mid-rise buildings using seismic control devices such as buckling-restrained braces. Authors have been conducting studies to develop the buckling-restrained brace using steel mortar planks (BRBSM). In this study, we evaluate the fatigue performance of the buckling-restrained brace using a LYP core plate. First, we demonstrate the mechanical properties of LYP and the details of the buckling-restrained brace types that use them. Next, we conduct fatigue tests to examine fatigue performance using parameters such as strain amplitude and cycle frequency. Finally, we compare the maximum number of loading cycles of the buckling-restrained brace using LYP's core plates to the ones using rolled steels used for building structure.

Water is an important resource for the survival of human on the earth. Of all the sources of water available on the earth, groundwater plays a vital role for domestic water supply. Rapid urbanisation and industrialisation are the two important reasons for the diminishing of water quality. The chemicals and heavy metals which are released from the industries leads to severe water pollution. So, the present study focuses on analysing the different physiochemical parameter of groundwater in Thiruvallur. From the study area, ten water samples were collected and analysed for different water quality parameters such as pH, Total Hardness, Calcium, Total alkalinity, Chloride, Magnesium, Total Dissolved solids, Turbidity, Sulphate, Iron and Manganese. The test results are compared with Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS: 10,500:2012). The major pollutants in the groundwater sample are Total hardness, Chlorides and Total dissolved solids and its value is in the range of 1041 mg/l, 1625 mg/l and 3644 mg/l. The results of analysis shows that except sample 4 for all other samples the concentration was within the permissible limit suggested.

This paper presents a computational framework to assist in maintenance planning for geotechnical structures. The most suitable maintenance strategies are determined by optimization regarding the deterioration of structure and the cost of maintenance when satisfying constraints that translate demands for adequate levels of service. Uncertainties are accounted by considering model parameters as random variables. The framework is applied to the case study consisting in optimal maintenance planning for a highway slope belonging to the Portuguese network. The obtained results show the validity and usefulness of this framework. The framework can be also applied to different types of infrastructure assets.
