This study investigates the relationship between peer collaboration and student success, with a focus on identifying central figures among a cohort of 47 freshmen in a higher education setting. Utilizing digital learning platforms, students were surveyed biweekly over the course of an academic year to determine collaboration patterns, resulting in a total of 14 surveys. Participants were asked to identify up to five peers with whom they collaborated most intensively during the preceding two weeks. Through the application of network analysis, the study identified central figures within the student community, analyzing their role in influencing academic performance and collaboration dynamics. An interesting and unexpected linear relationship was found between students' grade point average (GPA) and both the nominations received and given. The findings reveal complex interactions between peer influence, collaboration, and academic success, shedding light on the potential importance of key collaborative figures within educational environments. The implications of this research hold promise for educators, administrators, and policymakers seeking to leverage peer-to-peer collaboration to enhance student engagement and success.

This paper explores the pivotal role of knowledge management (KM) in revolutionizing adaptive military training systems (AMTSs). As military organizations confront increasingly complex and dynamic operational environments, traditional training methodologies must evolve to cultivate the adaptivity, cognitive flexibility, and real-time decision-making skills required to operate successfully. KM is the process of capturing, organizing, storing, and sharing information and expertise, and involves the creation of systems and practices to identify, create, represent, distribute, and enable the adoption of insights and experiences. In the case of adaptive training, the goal of knowledge management is to improve efficiency, promote innovation, and enhance decision-making through knowledge transfer from training experiences to application in operational (work) experiences. The integration of advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and machine learning, necessitate a cohesive KM framework. Case studies demonstrate methods used in successful implementations, including cyber warfare preparedness, urban warfare simulations, and personalized leadership development. Challenges such as resistance to cultural change, security concerns, and resource limitations are also discussed, alongside strategies for overcoming these barriers. To investigate the influencing factors of high school students' deep learning competencies in the smart classroom environment (SCE), this study analyzed the factors related to students' deep learning competencies in the SCE through a questionnaire surveywith the 11th-grade students of a public high school in South China as the subjects. The structural equation modelingmethod was used to validate and analyze the inherent logical relationship between self-efficacy, teacher support, platform services, and students' deep learning competencies in the SCE. The results indicated that students' deep learning competencies in the SCE were at a high level, and students' self-efficacy, perceived teacher support, and platform services all had a significant positive effect on students' deep learning competencies. In addition, platform services had a moderate positive effect on students' self-efficacy as well as teacher support, and teacher support had a significant positive effect on students' self-efficacy.

This paper covers the problem of monitoring and surveillance of Offshore Wind Farms (OWFs) in the North Sea area of German Exclusive Economic Zone (GEEZ). The increase of risks connected to current geopolitical situation across Europe is clearly visible. Suspicious activity of Russian fleet in the North Sea, unidentified sources of underwater cables damage in Norway, or the sabotage of the Nord Stream pipelines near Bornholm could be recognized as Hybrid Threats (HTs). As a result, the current maritime risk landscape considers multi-factor hazards posed by variety of actors. Conducted analyses reveal that most of the German Federal Coast Guard activities take place within ca. 50 km limits offshore, in the areas of high-density traffic. This observation suggests a need for updated approach in case of surveillance of offshore installations located as far as 150 km from a shore, and even 300 km away in the future. The need is driven not only by distances exceeding typical operations or raised threat levels but also by new preventive function of German Federal Coast Guard aimed at protection of newly recognized offshore Critical Infrastructures (CIs). The article proposes two software solutions along with Multi Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) background for solving the patrol route execution problem for these offshore locations.

This paper presents a method for classifying discussion posts of online courses, aiming to improve students' cognitive engagement in online learning. This method utilizes deep learning models including a GloVe embedding and a hybrid long short-term memory (LSTM) network within an educational framework called interactive, constructive, active, and passives (ICAP), which classifies the students posts into interactive, constructive, active, and passives classes. These classes quantify the students' level of cognitive engagement in their online course discussion posts. We used textual attributes and label-specific characteristics (e.g., text length, sentiment polarity, and subjectivity) to gain comprehensive insights into the forum posts' emotional and cognitive depth. We further refined these features with a pre-trained GloVe embedding, which enhanced the classification accuracy. We interpreted the model's decision-making process using local interpretable model-agnostic explanations (LIME) for added transparency and interpretability. By employing deep learning models with ICAP and LIME, this study demonstrates an effective use of the proposed system for improving student cognitive engagement in online learning.

Teaching popular science in primary school science courses has gained significant attention due to the national strategy for promoting science and education. 12.5% of the sixth-grade science curriculum is focused on astronomical content, but the scope and format of astronomical popular science in primary school curricula are relatively limited. After conducting an investigation, it has been found that there are fewexisting extracurricular astronomical popular science teaching methods. The issues with existing methods include low alignment with textbook content, lack of systematic teaching, limited interactivity, and difficulties in stimulating students' initiative. Fun-based teaching using virtual reality technology is an emerging teaching method with unique interactivity and experience. It allows students to immerse themselves in interactive environments and have a rich learning experience. This study aims to offer students practical hands-on opportunities by designing challenging tasks and activities. This approach deepens students' understanding and application of knowledge. Virtual reality technology based on game-based learning enables students to apply scientific knowledge in simulated scenarios, fostering problem-solving skills and innovative thinking. This method enhances students' depth of understanding and promotes their practical skills, sparking a strong interest in astronomical popular science among primary school students.

Effective design of classroom orchestration tools depends on purposeful collection, analysis, and presentation of learning analytics (LA) to teachers. However, researchers have raised concerns regarding their acceptance and adoption in real classrooms, emphasizing the critical role that teachers can play in their design. To engage teachers in identifying their analytics needs during class time, we conducted classroom observations, interviews, and a focus group with ten grades 3 to 8 math teachers. Our thematic analysis of the data led to findings about teachers' information needs and usage, which we integrated with existing models of teachers' sensemaking and decision-making to generate a conceptual model of math teachers' information needs and usage. Our model captures interconnections across categories of (a) information needs for in-class sensemaking (events, event causes, student profiles) and (b) information usage for in-class decision-making (interventions). We illustrate the connections between different instances of these categories through five case scenarios. Based on our model, we propose strategies for supporting the design of orchestration tools aiming to integrate cross-domain analytics for overall student growth, balance automated assistance and teacher control, and manage information overload for teachers. Our findings offer valuable insights for LA communities in grounding the design of classroom orchestration tools on teachers' actual needs.

Several stages in understanding and using the Vuza rhythmic canon structure are enumerated. The starting idea was to compose Vuza canons of moments instead of Vuza canons of single notes. The next idea was to integrate such Vuza canons in more complex structures: polyphony of a Vuza canon and one or more melodies, polyphony of Vuza canons, polyphony of Vuza canons and other musical structures. Another stage was that of Vuza canons of attacks, allowing overlapping of voices, but not of attacks. This musical form is in the spirit of classical canons.

Augmented Reality (AR) is a promising technology in Industry 4.0, improving industrial procedures and reducing errors. Using a Human-Centered Design methodology, a Pervasive AR tool was initially created to support logistics tasks in the shop floor. To benefit from the tool, a prior configuration of the AR environment is required. This work proposes a remote tool to configure AR content in the industrial scenario, replacing the current in-person configuration. Therefore, we developed three methods (based on different environments and materials): non-immersive virtual reality with keyboard and mouse, hands-free AR and immersive virtual reality with controllers. A user study with 24 participants was conducted to compare their usability and performance. Results show that users can easily perform the configuration remotely. The immersive virtual reality method presented a better accuracy and higher preference. However, the AR method proved to be efficient and a more natural solution.

Adaptive training provides the capability to enable individualized learning and keep users in the Zone of Proximal Development. However, when an individual should adapt is still an open area of research. This paper discusses findings from a recent driving-based simulation in which trainee state was assessed by multiple means. Modalities of measurement included real-time physiological information (heart rate and fNIR data) used to assess mental workload, subjective ratings of workload from participants after each trial (NASA TLX), and performance data on key components related to the execution of the scenario tasks. These methods were used in tandem to adapt the difficulty of the simulation environment. Results show that measures with high sample rates, such as average miles per hour and reported relative oxygenated hemoglobin (HbO2) readings, outperformed less temporally sensitive measures, such as task response correct percentages or NASA TLX ratings. These findings emphasize that the granularity of the measurement method should align with the system's desired sensitivity in adapting to mental workload. More granular measures should be used when needing to adapt more frequently and/or to smaller changes in workload. Empirically supported methods that lack high temporal or spatial resolution are unlikely to suffice for applications that require rapid adaptation.
