As virtual technology continues to receive rising popularity particularly in the gaming industry, scholars have argued for its potential use in other fields including education, engineering and medicine. Over years, researchers have examined evidence and proposed the application of virtual reality in treatment of mental health conditions. However, even though there is growing evidence on the use of VR to treat mental illnesses such as depression, it is not clear yet how the VR incorporated therapies compared with traditional approaches to managing the conditions as far as benefits are concerned. This report undertook an evaluation of the current evidence with the aim of comparing the efficacy of VR therapies over conventional therapies. The findings show that there is strong evidence supporting the use of VR in mental health care especially in managing mental illness such as depression, anxiety and PSTD. However, the findings on their efficacy over conventional approaches in terms of cost effectiveness are mixed. This also few studies examining the cost effectiveness of VR. As such, more research is required to validate the benefits of VR in the management of mental conditions.

Several studies have proposed that mobile robots can indicate their movement direction by displaying arrows to facilitate smooth passing of humans. However, the interpretation of these arrows can be ambiguous, as they are also commonly used as guiding signs. The way arrows are presented on the robot's body may lead people to perceive them as indicating either the robot's direction of movement or the direction passers-by should move. This study aims to develop arrows into clear and unambiguous non-verbal communication method for robot-human interactions. We investigate how the spatial context and timing of arrow presentation influence people's perception of the arrow's meaning. Building upon our previous experiment, we explore two key aspects: 1) differences in arrow perception based on the spatial context of symmetric and asymmetric corridors, and 2) the influence of presentation timing on perception when varying the mobile robot's speed. We conducted a virtual passing experiment using first-person perspective videos of encounters with a mobile robot. The findings suggest that the corridor's spatial characteristics play a significant role in how people perceive the arrow's meaning. Furthermore, our results indicate that the meaning of the arrow may be determined by the interaction between the spatial context and the presentation timing. Our research highlights the importance of considering the spatial context and presentation timing when using arrows for non-verbal communication in human-robot interactions.

At present, China, the United States, Russia and Europe are continuously exploring the moon, especially the development and development of spacecraft, in order to look forward to the establishment of a lunar base and human activities on the lunar surface in the future [1]. As an adjunct technology in this process, augmented reality (AR) is a display mechanism that combines real and virtual world content on a single screen [2]. However, current AR technology is not sufficient to function efficiently in practical operations. One of the key issues is the legibility of the text displayed via AR head-mounted displays [3]. Therefore, it can be concluded that the readability of text on AR head-mounted display can be improved by selecting colors that are suitable for the environment, so as to promote the in-depth application of AR in the aerospace field. This paper aims to explore the influence of AR symbols and text colors on astronaut information capture efficiency under simulated lunar surface environment, and put forward suggestions for improvement of color selectio, so as to guide the AR interface color design of spacesuit helmets for extravehicular operations. A total of 10 men and 10women participated in the experiment to simulate the lunar surface environment by wearing AR glasses. In the experiment, two kinds of judgment pictures of symbol and text were set, the recognition speed and accuracy of participants were collected, and the experimental data were processed with the help of data analysis software to get the corresponding data map. The results show that the experimental data of yellow and blue-green are more prominent. Green visibility is strong but the judgment accuracy rate is low. The white indicators are more balanced but not prominent. Red, blue, magenta indicators are relatively poor. The preliminary conclusion of the experimental results is that the colors with better recognition effect on the lunar surface are cyan and yellow. All these colors can be

Social AI agents interact with members of a community, thereby changing the behavior of the community. For example, in online learning, an AI social assistant may connect learners and thereby enhance social interaction. These social AI assistants too need to explain themselves in order to enhance transparency and trust with the learners. We present a method of self-explanation that uses introspection over a selfmodel of an AI social assistant. The self-model is captured as a functional model that specifies how the methods of the agent use knowledge to achieve its tasks. The process of generating self-explanations uses Chain of Thought to reflect on the self-model and ChatGPT to provide explanations about its functioning. We evaluate the self-explanation of the AI social assistant for completeness and correctness.

GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums) organisations host extensive digital collections that have been made available to the public for over three decades. Advances in technology have facilitated the reuse of digital collections as rich data sources. In this context, Wikidata has emerged as a leading, innovative, and collaborative platform that enriches the digital collections provided by GLAM institutions. However, a comprehensive analysis of the current status, potential and challenges of its use in the GLAM sector is still lacking. This paper presents a systematic review of Wikidata use in GLAM institutions within the context of the work of the International GLAM Labs Community (***). The results summarise academic literature on Wikidata projects. The paper argues that Wikidata's potential in the domain of reuse, an important component of the FAIR principles, can be better integrated into the practices of GLAM institutions.

This research explores the links between self-regulation behaviors and indicators of learning performance. A data mining approach coupled with appropriate qualitative measures is proposed to extract behavioral sequences that are representative of learning success. Applied on an online programming platform, obtained results allowed to highlight important self-regulation behaviors during the planning and engagement phases. It e.g. appears that successful self-regulated learners are those who analyze their tasks before working on them. This work brings methodological contributions in the field of self-regulation learning measurement and is a first step towards the design of intelligent tutoring systems.

Scientific advancement is driven by new discoveries that often build upon previous knowledge - usually in good faith. Yet recently, there is an increasing number of either erroneous publications or even cases of scientific misconduct, as evidenced by rapidly growing numbers of retracted articles. Unfortunately, the problem is not only limited to retracted articles, but also with all articles citing them. Whenever an article is retracted, it raises concerns about the validity of its findings, rendering it an unreliable source for subsequent citations. Consequently, all articles citing a retracted article come under scrutiny. However, Re-evaluating all citing articles is a tedious, unrealistic, and unnecessary process because not all citations hold equal significance. Therefore, we aim to identify citation patterns that lead to cascading retractions. We investigate around 5000 articles citing retracted articles, including 953 cases of cascading retractions. Moreover, we propose a retraction-centric approach to rank articles that are close to retraction by measuring their similarities to bibliographically coupled retracted articles. This study presents an alternative to exhaustive re-examination, offering a more efficient means to scrutinize the articles that require re-evaluation.

Contrast pattern mining is the process of finding patterns whose frequency differs significantly from one group of data to another. This paper presents an anti-monotonic constraint that is also a necessary condition for pattern statistical significance. This reduces the search space and enables statistical significance to be used as the primary measure of pattern interest. The effectiveness of the method is evaluated on a dataset of folk tune families.

The foundational course "Design Composition" is integral for freshmen in the Environmental Design undergraduate program. Given the observed limitations in students' spatial thinking capacities, coupled with challenges in perceiving classical architectural spaces and the real-time presentation of construction materials, the incorporation of VR (Virtual Reality) technology into curriculum reform be-comes paramount. For this empirical study, two academic classes were chosen: one control groups (n = 25) and one experimental groups (n = 25). While adhering to an identical teaching syllabus, the control groups were subjected to conventional pedagogical methods, whereas the experimental groups employed VR technology. Three distinctive tests were devised, targeting spatial cognition, perception of master architectural spaces, and material experimentation. Post-evaluation, a questionnaire assessed students' grasp of key concepts and course satisfaction. Data analysis revealed that students from the experimental groups consistently outperformed those from the control groups across all tests, indicating a pronounced enhancement in learning outcomes. Consequently, this investigation underscores the efficacious role of VR technology in spatial design instruction, advocating its further integration into pedagogical reforms.

In UX Design, personas function as representations of typical users showing empathy for their unique needs while maintaining focus on a product. Personas help designers and engineering teams find a balance between user values, constraints, and limitations. Students and practitioners who lack a background in intersectionality will, understandably, demonstrate a limited understanding of the role of race and ethnicity in the persona creation process. In fact, previous research shows that UX designers create personas closely related to themselves, rather than focusing on the needs of the user, especially when it comes to race and ethnicity. Race and racism have played a role in UX design, so there must be a move toward educating design students and professionals on the impact of race and ethnicity when creating personas. This research paper proposes to extend previously constructed teaching modules, focused on gender and Human-computer Interaction, to extrapolate a more nuanced intersectional lens emphasizing the importance of race and ethnicity in persona creation. Students are introduced to theories of intersectionality, specifically regarding race and ethnicity, through various readings. Students apply what they learn by practicing, evaluating, and applying theories of intersectionality through group projects and case studies covering various topics such as consumerism, body, and medicine. Group interactions allow them to share their ideas, echoing the real-world scenario of UX Design practitioners, potentially leading to the creation of less racist products. Having educational modules on intersectionality and race and ethnicity is needed if we want UX designers to create inclusive technology.
