Spatial skills are fundamental cognitive abilities crucial for daily tasks and career development, especially within STEM fields. While research has established that Augmented Reality (AR) technology provides interactive and immersive experiences to enhance children's spatial skills, a gap exists in understanding how children interact with AR environments to develop these skills. This study observed and analysed children's interactions within anARlearning case on orthographic projection, aiming to elucidate how their interactions contribute to spatial skill development. The findings suggest that AR interactions enhance spatial skills through various mechanisms. Firstly, by constructing and manipulating virtual objects, children refined their mental representations and coordinated their components, improving their mental models' accuracy and complexity. Secondly, through movement and adjustments of body postures in space, children utilised space and their bodies as mediums to construct and acquire additional spatial information. Furthermore, children developed rules and strategies for applying spatial skills within the AR environment, facilitating problem-solving. Future research should explore interaction patterns using learning analytics and include additional case studies for a comprehensive investigation.

Balancing privacy regulations and usability is a challenge in the delivery of government welfare services through digital self-services. This study explores the experiences of vulnerable citizens with digital self-services in government welfare services, focusing on the administrative burdens of privacy regulation vulnerable citizens experience when trying to access and use the benefits for which they are eligible. Through interviews, focus groups and observations, three key costs - compliance, psychological, and learning - are examined. The findings shed light on how privacy regulation worsens the burden and usability of self-services and reproduce socioeconomic inequalities for vulnerable citizens by (1) limiting access to support, (2) putting them at risk of identity theft and fraud, and (3) demanding excessive documentation with limited opportunities to resubmit.

In recent years, the evolution of intelligent NPC (Non-player Characters) generated by artificial intelligence (AI) has revolutionized numerous sectors, from entertainment to education and virtual assistance. Intelligent NPC, delineated as virtual entities within video games and interactive simulations, exhibit a notable proficiency in artificial intelligence, autonomy, interaction, and decision-making. These entities, portrayed as realistic digital representations, assume a pivotal role in enhancing the user experience by dynamically adapting to the choices made by players. In the educational sector, NPC can improve learning and interaction between students, for example they can be used as virtual tutors to assist students and answer questions to provide explanations for complex concepts. Therefore, this work aims to develop an intelligent NPC to be integrated within the Inclusive Virtual Museum to promote knowledge of cultural heritage in the students.

The study examines the role of virtual brand communities in brand building and management, particularly for enhancing corporate brand equity. It surveyed 400 Chinese customers in Huawei's official virtual brand community, with the majority being male (51.2%) and aged 59-77 years (21.8%). The majority had a bachelor's degree (35.8%) and had been in the community for 1.2 years (33.3%). The results show that, there is a positive relationship between virtual informational interaction and brand equity. There is a positive relationship between virtual interpersonal interaction and brand equity. Virtual information interaction is not positively and significantly influenced customer perceived value (0.070, p = 0.334 > 0.05). The Virtual interpersonal information is positively and significantly influenced customer perceived value. Consumer perceived value mediates the relationship between Virtual interpersonal information and brand equity. But consumer perceived value do not mediates the relationship between Virtual information interaction and brand equity. There is significant differences on the level of virtual information interaction between female and male. There is significant differences on the level of virtual information interaction (p < 0.000) and virtual interpersonal interaction ((p < 0.016) between and within age groups. The study suggests that virtual informational interaction and virtual interpersonal interactions and customer perceived value can be enhanced to enhance the enterprise's brand equity in the virtual brand community.

This paper explores diverse multi-user learning approaches in Virtual Reality Learning Applications (VRLAs), emphasizing cooperation over collaboration. It provides an overview of multi-user VRLAs, their user engagement types, target groups, subjects, availability, and educational theory integration. Distinguishing between cooperative, collaborative, and social engagement, it also identifies asymmetric cooperation in multi-user experiences. Through systematic literature review, it identifies VRLAs implementing multi-user learning and their design considerations, laying groundwork for future research, particularly in cooperative VRLAs. Highlighting their value in inclusive education, the paper advocates for closer examination of cooperative dynamics in VRLAs to enhance understanding and promote engaging and inclusive learning environments.

User experience (UX) research entails the research and design processes of all user experiences with a product, while serious games have been increasingly gaining importance to facilitate otherwise unappealing or tedious activities in education, health, or business contexts. The players, their willingness to play the game, and the games' effects on them are crucial in the design and development of games and serious games. The established concepts and methods for research and design of user experience constitute a reasonable starting point for locating methods to employ when designing and developing serious games. To identify gaps and form a research agenda, we adopted grounded theory-based literature review as a method to research the current state of UX concept integration in serious games' development. While integrating evaluation methods is well under-way, there is still significant unfulfilled potential around user research and design. In particular, lacking awareness of existing research concepts and methods poses a significant hurdle.

This paper presents a general framework for the design and analysis of exchange mechanisms between two assets that unifies and enables comparisons between the two dominant paradigms for exchange, constant function market markers (CFMMs) and limit order books (LOBs). In our framework, each liquidity provider (LP) submits to the exchange a downward-sloping demand curve, specifying the quantity of the risky asset it wishes to hold at each price;the exchange buys and sells the risky asset so as to satisfy the aggregate submitted demand. In general, such a mechanism is budget-balanced (i.e., it stays solvent and does not make or lose money) and enables price discovery (i.e., arbitrageurs are incentivized to trade until the exchange's price matches the external market price of the risky asset). Different exchange mechanisms correspond to different restrictions on the set of acceptable demand curves. The primary goal of this paper is to formalize an approximation-complexity trade-off that pervades the design of exchange mechanisms. For example, CFMMs give up expressiveness in favor of simplicity: the aggregate demand curve of the LPs can be described using constant space (the liquidity parameter), but most demand curves cannot be well approximated by any function in the corresponding single-dimensional family. LOBs, intuitively, make the opposite trade-off: any downward-slowing demand curve can be well approximated by a collection of limit orders, but the space needed to describe the state of a LOB can be large. This paper introduces a general measure of exchange complexity, defined by the minimal set of basis functions that generate, through their conical hull, all of the demand functions allowed by an exchange. With this complexity measure in place, we investigate the design of optimally expressive exchange mechanisms, meaning the lowest complexity mechanisms that allow for arbitrary downward-sloping demand curves to be approximated to within a given level of precision.

The integration of robots into society has prompted extensive exploration, extending over various fields such as education, healthcare, and industry. This paper delves into the classification of robot conception and emphasizes the increasing prevalence of robots in diverse applications. Particularly in healthcare, the implementation of robots has sparked debates regarding their positive and negative implications, necessitating a thorough understanding of their impact across different contexts. The authors proposed a healthcare robot aimed at providing emotional support for pediatric walking rehabilitation, emphasizing the importance of assessing both physical and emotional aspects through physical prototypes (PP) and virtual prototypes (VP). The study introduces a methodology for comparative analysis, focusing on appearance characteristics, emotional response, and social perception. Initial findings suggest that while observable aspects like color and shape are effectively compared, more intricate features require further exploration. The study also evaluates emotional responses using the SAM instrument, revealing comparable emotional aspects conveyed by both PP and VP. The RoSAS assessment further validates social and emotional aspects of the prototypes, highlighting differences in factors such as discomfort and warmth between PP and VP. These insights underscore the potential of VP for prototype assessment and suggest avenues for further research in this domain.

Artificial Intelligence-powered educational technology (AI-EdTech) is changing the way teachers plan and orchestrate lessons. The impact on teaching has been especially strong on English as a Foreign Language (EFL) and Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) teachers, as language barriers previously limited the use of AI-EdTech such as GenAI in other languages and subjects. The present study explores the views of 13 high school teachers of EFL from Portugal, Spain, and Estonia on opportunities and concerns for educators related to AI-EdTech use. The Concerns-Based Adoption Model (CBAM) instrument and semi-structured interviews were used to collect data in the 2023-24 school year. The analysis of CBAM data reveals two distinct teacher profiles. One group, consisting of ten participants, demonstrates strong interest in AI-EdTech but limited practical application. Their primary concerns centre on self-development, suggesting a need for support in implementing AI-EdTech effectively in their teaching. The other group, three teachers, exhibits a strong grasp of AI-EdTech integration into their teaching practices. Their main concerns relate to collaboration with peers. A thematic analysis of interview data reveals that teachers with little or no experience with AI-EdTech tend to restrict student use of such technology, while more experienced users tend to invent scenarios on how to foster EFL learning using such technologies, teach students to responsibly use them to support their learning, and report that AI-EdTech can reduce teacher workload. Overall, this study contributes to an understanding of how to support the responsible use of AI-EdTech in language education by identifying the opportunities and concerns of CLIL and EFL teachers.

Government websites serve as sources of information and services related to public affairs, playing an essential role in connecting citizens with government institutions. The responsibility of government websites extends beyond just providing information;they must ensure that the information is easily accessible and understandable. This paper analyzes and redesigns the United States Department of Labor's website. The research began by examining user-generated content on social media and online forums, shedding light on user grievances and challenges. The analysis revealed a significant issue with the website's information architecture, causing users to need help finding the information they needed. A heuristic evaluation was conducted, and issues related to problems with usability heuristics, including "Help and documentation," "Visibility of system status," and "Aesthetic and minimalist design," were also identified. To initiate the redesign, a virtual card sorting activity engaged potential users to reorganize content and categories. User interface (UI) components were developed, presenting a fresh color palette aligned with the Department of Labor's branding. Remote Usability Testing (RUT) with seven diverse users, leading to further refinements for responsiveness and consistency. Usability tests on the prototypes demonstrated the value of a user-centric approach. If implemented on the United States government website, this redesign could alleviate user pain points, particularly information accessibility. In conclusion, optimizing government website information architecture is vital for improving user experience. This research and redesign process serves as a valuable case study for enhancing the usability of government online platforms, ultimately benefiting citizens and their interactions with government services.
