In this paper, parallel communicating finite automata (abbreviated as PCFA) that communicate by states will be investigated. We define new topologies for them, the Token-Ring and Token-Bus topology. The new topologies have two working modes and will be illustrated with an example. We study the computational power of deterministic Token-Ring and Token-Bus PCFA and prove that they are equal to deterministic one-way multi-head finite automata. The same is proven for their non-deterministic versions. We compare the topologies to each other in their different working modes. It will be derived that non-deterministic versions of Token-Ring and Token-Bus PCFA are strictly more powerful than deterministic ones. In addition it is shown that the language classes of Token-Ring and Token-Bus PCFA are strictly included in the complexity class NL and that all language classes accepted by them are incomparable to the class of (deterministic) (linear) context-free languages and the class of Church-Rosser languages. (The material published in this paper is based on the results presented in the Bachelor's thesis under the same name by Philomena Moek. The thesis was submitted in June of 2023.)

The era of Industry 4.0 demands innovative solutions to produce high-quality products within tight lead times. This paper explores the integration of cognitive architectures (CAs) into manufacturing solutions, with a focus on using VSM-ACT-R, a cognitive architecture model built upon the ACT-R architecture. VSM-ACT-R aids in making informed decisions in smart scheduling that boosts productivity while ensuring consistent quality. The model stands out in three key aspects of decision-making in manufacturing: First, it executes tasks using decision-making algorithms and knowledge representations observed in human subjects, supported by declarative memories that reflect intuitive and domain-specific knowledge. Second, it mimics various levels of decision-making-from novice through to expert-using production rules and retrieval mechanisms that replicate variations of human behavior. Third, it simulates the learning processes of decision-makers, managed by a decision-choice control center that is driven by utility learning and reinforcement reward. We conclude by discussing an evaluation of this model, its applications, and its implications.

The Iceberg Model, derived from Systems Thinking, is one of the powerful methods for understanding the hidden dynamics and complexities that influence decision making. By examining the various layers of the iceberg metaphorically, one can gain a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness and inter-dependencies within systems, enabling to make more informed and connected decisions and foster sustainable change in a complex world. By applying the Iceberg Model in the context of serious games, Systemic Design Oriented Leadership (SDOL) in particular could gain a holistic understanding of the hidden dynamics that determine behaviour and outcomes within their organizations. A serious game of this nature has the capacity to augment a leadership learning culture that fosters the investigation of cognitive frameworks, the interrogation of presumptions, and the cultivation of critical thinking. Through dialogue and reflection, SDOL could surface underlying beliefs and values. SDOLthat embraces the gamification of the Iceberg Model might effectively drive sustainable change in a playful manner. By focusing the gameplay on levels such as "mental models" and "systemic structures", SDOL can design interventions that address the root causes of challenges rather than applying quick fixes. The Iceberg Model as a serious game fosters a culture of continuous improvement and adaptability, positioning the organization for long-term success. This paper explores the application of the Iceberg Model as a physical serious game in SDOL, highlighting its significance in identifying and addressing underlying factors that impact organizational behavior and performance.

Music information retrieval is a field of signal processing that offers sophisticated tools for generating computer-assisted musical systems. Acoustic fingerprinting is a well-known application of such discipline whose purpose is to extract perceptual features of music samples. The main advantage of implementing audio fingerprinting algorithms is to facilitate the task of matching acoustic samples. For that reason, in this paper, we propose a strategy for measuring musical genre similarity based on the use of audio fingerprints. The notion of musical similarity has been approached employing the use of class-representative fingerprints, defined as an aggregation of the fingerprints of each musical genre. We have also proposed a similarity index defined for the class-representative fingerprints for which we have demonstrated the advantages of using this function as a measure of music resemblance. For the experimental study, we have chosen the GTZAN dataset. The results indicate that our strategy proves to be useful for determining musical similarity between genres. However, future work is required to evaluate and extend it to other domains or datasets.

The process of education is changing in the modern world with an increased emphasis on e-learning environments that employ avatar agents as teachers. As such it is unclear howavatars compare to human instructors in online learning platforms in metrics such as comprehension, trust, usability, mental effort and engagement. 110 students were recruited to assess the effect on these metrics in an asynchronized online learning study to compare human instructors with avatar instructors and include African -American, Asian, Hispanic and White representations for each of the manipulations. We overall found no statistically significant effect for comprehension nor any of the metrics apart from the interaction between ethnicity and instructor type on trust scores. We discussed potential reasons for this and suggested further studies.

In this study, we introduce a Conversational Intelligent Tutoring System designed to create an interactive and immersive learning experience aimed at improving the speaking abilities of second language learners. This system mimics a human tutor by engaging in role-play dialogues with the learner, based on predefined scenarios, and offers corrective feedback on the learners' utterance, while also engaging in chat to encourage student participation. The tutoring system includes a deep-learning classifier to assess students' utterances, a dialogue generator customized for responding to students' free-form chats, and a straightforward dialogue manager to determine the sequence of conversational turns. To tackle the challenge posed by the scarcity of tutoring dialogue resources, a significant hurdle for deep learning methods, we present a cost-effective approach that efficiently extends existing Korean dialogue datasets for the purpose of intelligent language tutoring. We carried out a series of experiments to compare various finetuned models based on language models of different sizes, and included a comparative analysis with ChatGPT. We discovered that smaller, specialized, fine-tuned models can either surpass or match the performance of GPT-4 in specific tutoring applications. Given the educational sector's demand for cost-effective solutions, our contributions, spanning system design, dataset development, and comparative analysis, serve as valuable references to address these needs.

Circle-Breaking means making something a widely known outside of the fixed circle. It has become a popular way of attracting more customers recently as it presents the product in a way that is outside the conventional perception. Herbal tea is a type of traditional Chinese beverage based on the theories of traditional Chinese medicine. Herbal tea has medical and cultural significance as an important part of Chinese medicine culture, and has been selected as the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage in China. However, the herbal tea industry has been gradually declining, which has also affected the herbal tea culture, as its marketing methods are out of step with today's experiential economy. Additionally, there remains a gap in current research regarding the improvement of its marketing ways or the preservation of the herbal tea culture. Therefore, this paper uses the service design as the theoretical basis, employs the double drill model and co-design as research methods to develop an innovative service system for herbal tea. The service system is driven by the circle-breaking trend, aiming to improve the competitiveness of herbal tea and protect its culture. This paper develops a new design mode based on the service design and the circle-breaking trend in the heritage conservation research for the first time, which provides certain reference for cultural heritage conservation and the interdisciplinary research in design and marketing.

Finding maximal exact matches (MEMs) between strings is an important task in bioinformatics, but it is becoming increasingly challenging as geneticists switch to pangenomic references. Fortunately, we are usually interested only in the relatively few MEMs that are longer than we would expect by chance. In this paper we show that under reasonable assumptions we can find all MEMs of length at least L between a pattern of length m and a text of length n in O(m) time plus extra O(log n) time only for each MEM of length at least nearly L using a compact index for the text, suitable for pangenomics.

The Universe at its largest scales remains still almost a mystery for most of the people not working in this field. With Astera, we present an educational video game that can teach about the cosmos whilst providing a thrilling and fun gaming experience. Astera allows the user to fly through the Universe up to the most distant galaxies, and " build" the Universe by growing and merging galaxies according to the most recent findings in astrophysics. As our results show, games like Astera can have a positive impact on players attitude towards galaxy evolution and science in general, and the player's willingness to follow up on related activities.

We consider the impact of trading fees on the profits of arbitrageurs trading against an automated marker marker (AMM) or, equivalently, on the adverse selection incurred by liquidity providers due to arbitrage. We extend the model of Milionis et al. [1] for a general class of two asset AMMs to both introduce fees and discrete Poisson block generation times. In our setting, we are able to compute the expected instantaneous rate of arbitrage profit in closed form. When the fees are low, in the fast block asymptotic regime, the impact of fees takes a particularly simple form: fees simply scale down arbitrage profits by the fraction of time that an arriving arbitrageur finds a profitable trade.
