Despite the growing popularity of STEM education as an emerging concept in various educational fields, limited research exists on in-service and pre-service educators in STEM-related disciplines, especially biology. By using the STEM-TPACK framework, the first phase of this research project adopted a quantitative approach and found the differences in readiness of in-service and pre-service biology teachers to implement STEM education as reflected in their views of Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK). As the second phase of this research project [1], this study used a qualitative approach that went deeper, aiming to examine the differences, strengths, and weaknesses of biology educators in implementing STEM education in Guangdong Province, the most populous province of China. Interviews were conducted to collect insights from 12 participants. The results revealed that pre-service teachers demonstrated enthusiasm and willingness to learn educational technologies, as well as a strong grasp of pedagogical knowledge. However, their lack of teaching experience and limited familiarity with biology and STEM content posed challenges when implementing STEM education. In-service teachers, on the other hand, exhibited stronger expertise in biology and STEM-related subjects, along with well-developed teaching skills and confidence. However, they were less inclined to embrace emerging technologies and may have fixed thinking patterns. Suggestions from in-service teachers to pre-service teachers varied, focusing on meeting student needs, learning from experienced teachers, and developing technological skills. These findings aligned with previous studies and highlighted the need for continuous professional development to enhance technical expertise and effectively integrate technology into teaching practices for both pre-service and in-service educators. The United States is experiencing a silver tsunami: an aging nation with baby boomers becoming the largest elderly population in the country's history. This demographic shift poses challenges for maintaining mobility and independence among older individuals. This paper will demonstrate an ongoing research project conducted for a major automotive maker that explores how an early research-and-development initiative might lengthen the driving years for older drivers. The paper will introduce the project, its scope, and constraints. It introduces the Inviting Curiosity framework, used to elicit moments of curiosity in interactive experiences. It shows how the Inviting Curiosity framework was used in a research-through-design approach to create mobile and tablet prototypes tested with automotive consumers. The paper provides a detailed account of each research phase, highlighting key findings and the evolution of the project, ultimately demonstrating how technology and innovative approaches can contribute to enhancing the driving experience for an aging population.

In collaborative learning, emotions serve crucial functions that regulate task progress and social relationships among the team members. Although the research on the role of emotions in collaborative learning has been emerging, there is limited knowledge on how emotions emerge at different levels (individuals, teams) and its impact on collaborative learning, particularly when teams fail to complete a collaborative task. Therefore, the aim of this study is to explore how facial expressions of emotions unfold at the individual and the collective team level in a digital game-based learning setting in which collaborative teams eventually quit the collaborative task. A total of 30 high-school students' emotions were captured using facial expressions software and high-resolution video cameras from beginning to the quitting of the digital game on Biology (Min = 43 min;Max = 60 min). Before the collaborative learning task, participants were randomly assigned to work in a triad involving one of two experimental conditions: 1) a within-team competition (n = 5 teams) and a no within-team competition (n = 5 teams). Utilizing FaceReader, participants' momentary facial expressions of basic (i.e., happy, sad, anger, surprise, fear, and disgust) and neutral emotions were classified, and recurrence quantification analysis was utilized to study the recurrence of facial expressions within and between the members across the team conditions. Our findings indicate significant differences in the recurrence of facial expressions between the experimental conditions when they eventually quit the task. The current findings provide novel insights on the interplay between emotions and competitive dynamics in collaborative learning settings.

Managers and designers need to understand the subtleties of social compensation design so they can make social apps that meet the psychological needs of users and keep them using them. However, there is a significant gap in the research that has already been done on creating and validating a Social Compensation Design Scale (SCDS). This study aims to fill that gap by developing and testing the SCDS, specifically for older people living alone in cities. It will be used for smart home social media and looked at through the lens of information systems design. The study used the Delphi method and two rounds of surveys to get information from older people. SPSS 25.0 and Amos 28.0 were used to analyze the data. As part of the research process, the first scale was approved by experts and then put through strict reliability and validity tests. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) found four main factors, which were then improved by Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). This led to a model with good fit metrics. The results show that the SCDS has four parts: quality of the user interface, quality of interactions, quality of the content, and quality of the service. These four parts are measured by 16 items. This study gives managers and designers a structured way to determine how much social compensation older users experience when using smart home social media. This will significantly assist in creating and improving social apps that improve older people's overall health and happiness.

Several Open Government Data (OGD) initiatives have resulted in the availability of open datasets that can be very useful for policy formulation and participatory decision-making. However, integrating these disparate datasets and seamlessly connecting them to all relevant data sources remains a critical challenge. Typically, OGD reflects the performance metrics of geographical units such as states, districts, or villages. This information is primarily utilized by policymakers and data analysts for decision-making within specific frameworks like the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The current frameworks designed for data retrieval, whether based on keywords or domains, lack the capability to semantically map the inherent connections between data points and SDG constructs. In this research, we introduce a Data Warehouse framework over an open dataset provided by the government of the state of Karnataka in India. This framework aims to bridge the gap by enabling a more nuanced understanding of the relationship between data points collected by the OGD processes and SDGs. In this research, the proposed data warehouse is constructed based on a top-down approach. A fact constellation schema model is proposed to effectively capture information across multiple dimensions, including geographical data, temporal aspects, and various administrative units. The proposed framework is implemented over the OGD dataset called Karnataka at a Glance (KAG), and is equipped to handle OLAP (Online Analytical Processing) queries. The findings validate the integrity of the proposed architecture and demonstrate its capacity to facilitate the seamless integration of data ingestion processes.

This paper reviews data altruism in the emerging academic literature by collecting and analyzing conceptually similar terms, identifying key actors, and delineating the objectives of general interest underlying this novel form of voluntary data sharing. Drawing from a wide array of disciplines including computer science, social science, law, and medicine and bioethics, we discover frequent comparisons with the notions of data donation, data crowdsourcing, data philanthropy, and data solidarity. In our observations of current definitions and understandings of data altruism and these related terms, we draw attention to analyzing their salient similarities and differences. Our analysis of actors and roles illustrates a wide variety of players envisioned to participate in data altruism. Our examination of different types of data discussed in the literature suggests the data altruism value chain proposition is largely promissory, with limited empirical evidence supporting specified objectives of general interest. This review contributes to a refined understanding of data altruism as a formal 'data donation' institutionalization process in the European digital space and highlights its implications for future research.

Adaptive training (AT) is a promising avenue for training across multiple domains pertinent to warfighters, as it can adjust instruction and task difficulty based on the learner's real-time performance. Despite these benefits, such adaptations may elevate learner stress, hindering performance and learning. Coping strategies may be used to mitigate learner stress, but there is limited extant research comparing adaptive and maladaptive coping strategies in an adaptive training environment. This study explores the relationship between stress and task performance in the context of an adaptive training system that dynamically adjusted task difficulty based on real-time performance. Participants completed a radio frequency signal detection task in which they had to classify and report signals quickly and accurately. Participants were also instructed on adaptive or maladaptive stress coping strategies that either focused on the task itself (problem-focused) or on their emotions (emotion-focused). Results suggest that task engagement is related to performance and changes in micro-adaptive difficulty. Distress and worry, however, did not consistently relate to task performance or micro-adaptive difficulty. Problem-focused coping helped maintain task performance regardless of whether the strategy was adaptative or maladaptive. Maladaptive, emotion-focused coping led to the worst performance outcomes. Limitations and future directions are discussed.

We investigate whether the fee income from trades on the CFM is sufficient for the liquidity providers to hedge away the exposure to market risk. We first analyse this problem through the lens of continuous-time financial mathematics and derive an upper bound for not-arbitrage fee income that would make CFM efficient and liquidity provision fair. We then evaluate our findings by performing multi-agent simulations by varying CFM fees, market volatility, and rate of arrival of liquidity takers. We observe that, on average, with volatility set to realistic values, fee income generated from liquidity provision is insufficient to compensate for market risk. In case where the underlying pair volatility is very low the fee income exceeds market risk cost.

The recent irruption of Generative Artificial Intelligence opens up a new transformative scenario for education in general and higher education in particular. This paper presents today's leading trends and challenges in digital education research. Artificial Intelligence allows us to continue advancing research in educational technology, improve personalized student tracking systems, new learning dynamics, and new roles shared between teachers and learning machines. Perspectives on these advances and opportunities would be discussed.
