Recent years, the use of interdisciplinary lesson study has garnered significant recognition, especially in the context of advocating interdisciplinary education. Nevertheless, there is a lack of research on the procedural mechanism of how interdisciplinary lesson study is conducted. As teachers' collaborative talk gains attention, the framework of Pedagogically Productive Talk (PPT) has been established to facilitate the analysis of this discourse, with dialogue serving as procedural data that facilitates a deeper understanding of collaborative patterns among teachers. Utilizing the Social Epistemic Network Analysis (SENS) approach, this study examined 12 student teachers and 3 faculty members' collaborative talk patterns with regards of the interactive processes and epistemic patterns in an offline interdisciplinary lesson study. Quantitative analysis revealed active and diverse cross-disciplinary teacher interaction, and cognitive characteristics demonstrate the practical problem identification and resolution in different groups. Besides, although the interdisciplinary lesson study focused on practical problem identification and resolution, there were distinctive interaction characteristics in different stages.

Domain-specific data face the long-standing challenge of expressing granular knowledge in a structured way, which is fundamental for fostering information retrieval in the context of domain-specific semantic digital libraries. In the art history field, the ICON ontology strives to face such a challenge by providing a model for describing complex iconographical and iconological interpretations of visual artworks with a high level of granularity. Nevertheless, such a detailed model has drawbacks when applied to extensive real-world data. The need for an extension of the ICON ontology emerged during the creation of 1) the Iconology Dataset, a manually curated dataset representing a selection of the interpretations by the art historian Erwin Panofsky, and 2) IICONGRAPH, a knowledge graph (KG) created by re-engineering the iconographic statements of Wikidata and ArCo. In this work, we present the ontology extension made after the experience of creating such diverse resources. The updates cover two distinct aspects. Whereas some features needed a more thorough description, other interventions sought to simplify the ontology to optimize queries. To this end, we present the motivation for such modeling that emerged from the creation of the Iconology Dataset and IICONGRAPH. We evaluate the newly added features through competency questions and in terms of their efficiency.

The efficacy of large-scale language models (LLMs) as few-shot learners has dominated the field of natural language processing, achieving state-of-the-art performance in most tasks, including named entity recognition (NER) for contemporary texts. However, exploration of NER in historical collections (e.g., historical newspapers and classical commentaries) remains limited. This presents a greater challenge as historical texts are often noisy due to storage conditions, OCR extraction, and spelling variation. In this paper, we conduct an empirical evaluation comparing different Instruct variants of open-access and open-sourced LLMs using prompt engineering through deductive (with guidelines) and inductive (without guidelines) approaches against the fully supervised benchmarks. In addition, we study how the interaction between the Instruct model and the user impacts the entity prediction. We conduct reproducible experiments using an easy-to-implement mechanism on publicly available historical collections covering three languages (i.e., English, French, and German) with code-switching on Ancient Greek and four open Instruct models. The results show that Instruct models encounter multiple difficulties handling the noisy input documents, scoring lower than fine-tuned dedicated NER systems, yet the resulting predictions provide entities that can be used in further tagging processes by human annotators.

This study aimed to provide a comprehensive overview of distance and immersive education's state of the art, specifically focusing on the metaverse in conjunction with ergonomics, design, educational environments, virtual reality, and attention. Conducted as a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) method, the research targeted theoretical and methodological concepts, as well as methods and tools relevant to a thesis developed at the Federal University of Pernambuco. Searches were conducted across seven databases and additional sources, applying filters for peer-reviewed articles published in English, Portuguese, and Spanish in the last two decades (2003-2023). Exclusion criteria involved repeated works without focusing on key themes, research focusing on People with Disabilities (PwD), and studies exclusively addressing the metaverse. Sixteen keyword combinations were utilized, generating an initial pool of 6,161 papers. After a thorough screening, 45 studies were selected and classified into two groups. Group 1 focused on Metaverse and Virtual Reality in education. Group 2 highlighted Ergonomics in the Virtual Environment, and Metaverse applied to the social and educational context. However, the research identified a gap in scientific knowledge at the intersection ofMetaverse, Attention, and Educational Environment from the perspectives of Ergonomics and Design science Research.

The availability and growth of tools and natural language generation (NLG) models that are used to paraphrase text could be helping to improve students' writing and comprehension skills or a threat to intellectual property and educational integrity specifically when the text has been copied from other authors. These tools can be used by plagiarists to paraphrase individual words, phrases, sentences, and paragraphs. To solve this issue, much work has been done on plagiarism detection (PD) and paraphrase identification (PI) utilising downstream tasks and natural language processing (NLP) methods. These works mainly focus on sentence length and sentence-level paraphrasing. In this paper, we investigate paragraph-length and paragraph-level paraphrasing as the most common method of committing plagiarism is copying and paraphrasing paragraphs from other authors. Here, we construct a novel, large-scale paragraph-level paraphrasing dataset by implementing and examining a state-of-the-art Transformer-based model to reorder and paraphrase sentences without affecting a paragraph's meaning. In a first-of-a-kind study, we consider both intra-sentence and inter-sentence similarity before examining the efficiency of state-of-the-art Transformer-based models in detecting paraphrased paragraphs. We offer a technique that serves as both a tool for honing paraphrasing skills and a means of identifying plagiarism. Our outcomes surpass those presented in the existing literature.

The Tonnetz is a graphical representation of consonant intervals and chords, together with their corresponding parsimonious transformations, which are the basis of neo-Riemannian theory. It has proved to be useful for analyzing some chromatic passages of nineteenth century, as well as for composition. Furthermore, it has led to several generalizations and variants, which have been applied to different musical styles. In most cases, it implements the ordinary 12-tone equal temperament or 12-TET, which has a finite number of notes and allows to transform it into a torus. However, regarding consonances, they are only exactly matched in just intonation, which has infinite notes. Therefore, other finite tuning systems were developed to better approximate it, among them 19-, 31-, and 53-TET, which in turn gave rise to related new instruments. In this paper, the Tonnetze and tori for these tuning systems are developed, which are intended to be helpful when using them.

Learning analytics dashboards are the main vehicle for providing educators with a visual representation of data and insights related to teaching and learning. Recent research has found that the data visualizations provided by dashboards are often very basic and do not take advantage of the latest research advances to analyze and depict the learning process. In this article, we present a success story of how we adapted a visualization used for research purposes for its integration in a dashboard for its use by teachers in daily practice. Specifically, we described the process of transforming and integrating a static sequence analysis visualization into an interactive web visualization in a learning analytics dashboard for monitoring students' temporal trajectories in educational escape rooms in real time. We interviewed teachers to find out how they made use of the dashboard and present a qualitative content analysis of their responses.

Various regulations including the GDPR empower users with the right to request a copy of their personal data processed by data holders. This right of access can serve as the foundation of exercising other data subject rights, including erasure and rectification of the processed data. Like other regulations, the GDPR does not prescribe any specific procedure data holders need to implement to handle data subject access requests but requires them not to erect any material or formal hurdles in the assertions of their rights. In this paper, we focus on popular online service providers as data holders and investigate in which form they allow users to make data access requests directly on their websites and whether they use any strategies to impede such requests. Our systematical analysis of the process of submitting access requests on 166 account-based websites from the top 500 entries of the Tranco list reveals 238 instances of dark patterns impeding the submission of data subject access requests on 113 (68%) of the examined websites.

This study investigates turn-taking mechanisms in remote meetings involving supplemental materials, such as document browsing and chat tools, by comparing them with collocated meetings. We acquired multimodal datasets, including data on gaze, head movements, pupil size, speech audio, and utterance content, and analyzed gaze behavior during turn-taking and turn-giving instances. Our findings suggest that in collocated meetings, participants tend to gaze at the shared document during turn-changing, while in remotemeetings, this tendency is weaker, and participants' attention is more dispersed. Furthermore, we observed that participants are less likely to engage in document browsing in remote meetings than in collocated meetings where unintentional eye contact is likely to occur. Based on these results, we propose four hypotheses regarding turn-changing mechanisms in remotemeetings accompanying supplemental materials. This study contributes to the understanding of turn-changing mechanisms in remote meetings by providing insights into the relationship between gaze, turn-taking, and the role of supplemental materials. We discuss the implications of our findings and outline future work.

This study investigates how inter-speaker relations influence the interpretation of conditional statements "if p1 then q" and conditional reasoning, focusing on Japanese participants. The suppression paradigm of conditional reasoning reveals that adding additional conditional "if p2 then q" can suppress MP reasoning, "p1, therefore q". Based on politeness theory, the study examines whether the interpretation of ambiguous additional conditionals varies according to the relationship between the speakers, and how this variation affects conditional reasoning. Results indicated that introducing an additional conditional decreased the perceived plausibility of conditional and inverse sentences, but the relationship between the speakers had no significant impact on the interpretation of additional conditionals and probability assessments. The presence of additional conditionals influenced MP, MT, and DA reasoning, but AC reasoning was not impacted. The study underscores the importance of context and cultural nuances in the interpretation of conditional statements and highlights the need for further research to understand the factors that influence the interpretation of conditional sentences in different cultural settings.
