Player-replaceability is a property of a blockchain protocol that ensures every step of the protocol is executed by an unpredictably random (small) set of players;this guarantees security against a fully adaptive adversary and is a crucial property in building permissionless blockchains. Forensic Support is a property of a blockchain protocol that provides the ability, with cryptographic integrity, to identify malicious parties when there is a safety violation;this provides the ability to enforce punishments for adversarial behavior and is a crucial component of incentive mechanism designs for blockchains. Player-replaceability and strong forensic support are both desirable properties, yet, none of the existing blockchain protocols have both properties. Our main result is to construct a new BFT protocol that is player-replaceable and has maximum forensic support. The key invention is the notion of a "transition certificate", without which we show that natural adaptations of extant BFT and longest chain protocols do not lead to the desired goal of simultaneous player-replaceability and forensic support. In learning programming, it is important to learn from the best of other people's code. So far, we have developed a code-sharing platform with a mechanism for sharing only the code of others who are close to the learner's level. We believe that sharing code that is close to learners' strategies is beneficial for helping them learn from others, so in this study we propose a method for evaluating the strategies of code and a method for calculating the closeness of strategies as similarity. We implemented a filtering method that displays only code with a certain level of similarity to the ranking, and conducted experiments to compare the rankings of our proposed method and the conventional method for expert programmers. The results suggest that the ranking of our method promotes better learning.

We present a novel AAC application, HoloAAC, based on mixed reality that helps people with expressive language difficulties communicate in grocery shopping scenarios via a mixed reality device. A user, who has difficulty in speaking, can easily convey their intention by pressing a few buttons. Our application uses computer vision techniques to automatically detect grocery items, helping the user quickly locate the items of interest. In addition, our application uses natural language processing techniques to categorize the sentences to help the user quickly find the desired sentence. We evaluate our mixed reality-based application on AAC users and compare its efficacy with traditional AAC applications. HoloAAC contributed to the early exploration of context-aware AR-based AAC applications and provided insights for future research.

In order to understand student interpreters' use and awareness of AI-assisted interpreting technology, this study conducted a questionnaire survey on the use and perception of AI assisted interpreting technologies among student interpreters and the development of technology-related courses in interpretation teaching in universities. The survey results show that student interpreters are at a relatively basic stage in terms of technology use, and they have not yet formed a clear understanding of the relevant technology. There is still a lot of room for universities to educate interpreters with technology awareness and skills. Based on the findings, this paper further discusses how interpreters should establish a correct concept of technology to cope with the changes in the future interpretation industry under the impact of technology;and discusses the direction and possibilities of technology competence cultivation in interpretation teaching beside the key skills of interpretation in translation and interpretation programs.

This study examines the effects of active participation versus directed observation in collaborative 3D virtual museums on collaboration, learning, and usability. Using a virtual reality setup, 11 engineering students from the Universidad de Chile interacted with digital replicas of Armenian khachkars. Participants either manipulated the objects directly or observed as one member manipulated them. The experiment assessed teamwork quality, usability, and learning outcomes through questionnaires. Results showed that directed observation led to higher teamwork quality and slightly better usability scores, suggesting it provided a more structured and predictable environment. Both modalities achieved high levels of detail attention and personal reflection in learning outcomes, though active participation encouraged slightly greater understanding and engagement. The findings underscore the potential of collaborative virtual 3D museums to enhance educational experiences, indicating that structured observation can facilitate teamwork and usability. Active participation may boost personal engagement with content. Further research with larger samples is needed to confirm these results and optimize collaborative activities in virtual settings.

Generative AI (GenAI) has the capability to revolutionize even modern processes and framework implementations. In 2021 we presented the Reasoning about Multiple Paths and Alternatives to Generate Effective Forecasts (RAMPAGE) process framework to support hypothesis generation for counterfactual forecasting and intelligence analysis [1]. This framework provided a structure to organize and order analysis methods to maximize the number and quality of hypotheses generated to improve forecasts. Different instantiations of GenAI could be used to improve the results of each stage in this framework. Adding GenAI to implementations of the RAMPAGE framework would greatly expand the number and quality of hypotheses than analysts can generate, which would lead to better forecasts. In this paper, we present examples of how GenAI tools could be used to enhance the RAMPAGE framework.

This paper reports a case study of adopting a Smart Site Safety System (SSSS) for maintaining relevant safety standards on construction sites. It explores various perspectives from developers and constructors, evaluates the implementation processes, identifies potential obstacles, and provides recommendations. A pilot project was installed on two existing construction sites affiliated with selected innovation and technology companies, providing several advantages, such as conducting thorough testing, leveraging existing business contacts, and reducing development costs. This strategic approach helps mitigate risks and associated needs. Moreover, the companies in the construction industry involved in the case study are actively engaged in progressive research efforts, including providing relevant training programs to enhance the skills of workers and ensuring proper role matching within the smart safe worksite systems. This proactive approach addresses the crucial need for capacity building and skill development within the industry, ensuring a smooth transition towards a safer and more sustainable work environment.

Generative Artificial Intelligence empowered conversational agents (chatbots) seem to be increasingly used in various settings including education. While student teachers are key stakeholders in supporting and improving education, not many studies exist in student teachers' views on the educational use of chatbots. The current study performs a usability evaluation and explores student teachers' views on the academic use of the VIP-Bot, an advanced academic Discord chatbot, which leverages the OpenAI's gpt-3.5-turbo-instruct model. Student teachers, within the context of the formative task of writing a literature review, interacted with the chatbot and self-reported their experiences through an online survey. The usability evaluation returned a relatively high SUS score (76.36) for the chatbot. Moreover, student teachers' view on the chatbot acceptance, effectiveness and motivation were positive. The chatbot can be helpful in developing ideas and initiating further engagement with the literature. Academic misconduct concerns have been expressed if the chatbot is not used properly. The study, as a usability evaluation, is an essential step in further chatbot development and, as an investigation of student teachers' views, it is an essential step on the chatbot employment in teaching and learning.

Tools for discovering learning resources become increasingly important as more and more educational offerings move online. Improvements in the retrieval or recommendation of these resources often rely on the availability of metadata. For example, it has been demonstrated that showing teachers educational metadata alongside the search result could improve search outcomes. However, this relies on relevant educational metadata being embedded in web pages using formats such as JSON-LD or MicroData. For learning resources, the Learning Resource Metadata Initiative (LRMI) ontology defines classes and properties to express such embedded educational metadata. Previous studies have assessed its adoption, quality, and conformance to the ontology prior to an LRMI version update in 2020. This contribution updates prior studies with respect to adoption following the version change. We then focus on mining usage patterns of LRMI properties for the benefit of application developers who would like to leverage this resource. We also expand our analysis beyond just resources that use LRMI by training a text classifier to identify educational web pages. As a result, we are able to present what we believe to be the broadest and most recent examination of usage patterns and adoption of learning resource metadata on the web.

Extensive computational research has been dedicated to detecting keys and modes in tonal Western music within the major and minor modes. Little research has been dedicated to other modes and musical expressions, such as folk or non-Western music. This paper tackles this limitation by comparing traditional template-based with unsupervised machine-learning methods for diatonic mode detection within folk music. Template-based methods are grounded in music theory and cognition and use predefined profiles from which we compare a musical piece. Unsupervised machine learning autonomously discovers patterns embedded in the data. As a case study, the authors apply the methods to a dataset of Irish folk music called The Session on four diatonic modes: Ionian, Dorian, Mixolydian, and Aeolian. Our evaluation assesses the performance of template-based and unsupervised methods, reaching an average accuracy of about 80%. We discuss the applicability of the methods, namely the potential of unsupervised learning to process unknown musical sources beyond modes with predefined templates.
