This paper outlines the challenges around communicating natural hazard risk to children, due to the nature and concept of risk. It utilizes trusted disaster risk reduction advice to form the learning objectives of a serious game prototype for tsunami hazard. The study proposes an activity model that could form the basis of a game applicable to twelve different natural hazard scenarios thereby reducing resource input and reaching a significant number of learners in the formal education system. Evaluation of the prototype using an attitudinal survey suggests an adventure role playing game centered on challenges which use risk information is a viable concept for a serious game for communicating natural hazard risk.

The ability to succinctly and effectively communicate complex ideas is increasingly recognized as a critical skill for engineering professionals, defining a realm of ill-defined learning tasks. The elevator pitch, particularly, serves as a prime example of this necessity. This study explores the extension of the EPIC intelligent tutoring system, originally designed to enhance oral communication skills in development and performance of elevator pitches through individual learning, by integrating collaborative capabilities with a focus on peer-assessment. A pilot study with 24 engineering students was conducted to assess the user experience, usability and learning outcomes. Results indicate that students' experience and usability perceptions are generally positive. Moreover, students who positively rated the peer-assessment functionalities showed marked improvements in their abilities to deliver effective elevator pitches. Pedagogical implications and design criteria aiming to improve students' valuation of collaborative work are discussed.

The availability of technological resources at homes does not correlate with the educational use of RICT by secondary school Mathematics students. The use of technological resources, their use in the classroom and the educational level are some of the factors that could influence students' perceptions of RICT (Relationship, Information and Communication Technologies). This study evaluates the perceptions of Secondary Mathematics students towards the use of RICT for educational purposes, analyzing their relationship with the use of technological resources, their participation in the classroom activities and their educational level. A total of 2018 secondary school students were tested in this ex post facto cross-sectional study with a validated 6-item questionnaire extracted from the general instrument. Bayesian analysis suggests the existence of a predominantly positive perception in secondary school students' perception of the use of technologies. This perception decreases as the level of education increases. Furthermore, a significant positive correlation is observed between the perception that RICT can improve their grades and the use of technological resources in their studies.

This study explores the pivotal role of eye-tracking technology and physiological and behavioral signal recording in diverse research domains, notably cognitive science, and human-computer interaction (HCI). Addressing various aspects such as usability testing, user experience research, accessibility, neuroadaptive interfaces, virtual and augmented reality, and user interface design, eyetracking technology emerges as a crucial tool for garnering nuanced insights into human behavior and cognition. The research specifically focuses on conducting a comparative analysis of single-column, two-column, and three-column document formats using the Gaze Point eye tracker. This integration of quantitative data and qualitative user feedback aims to enhance reading experiences by aligning document formats with user needs and preferences. The study employs eye-tracking technology to capture and analyze readers' eyemovements across different column formats, utilizing measures such as fixation time, number of fixations, blinking frequency, and pupil dilation. The comprehensive analysis delves into readers' interactions with text, measuring reading speed and assessing comprehension and information retention. Results reveal that a single-column layout optimizes reading performance, enhancing comprehension, and reducing visual fatigue. However, the study acknowledges the context-specific appropriateness of each layout. The research methodology involves 20 participants reading texts in different layouts while their eye movements are tracked, the study provides insights into reading complexities associated with distinct layouts, emphasizing the importance of eye-tracking technology in understanding visual attention patterns. The injectivity problem of the Parikh matrix is closely related to the characterization of the M-equivalence. Current studies provide partial results such as a necessary condition of the M-equivalence or characterization of the M-equivalence over a binary or ternary alphabet. While these studies give rise to rewriting rules that construct M-equivalent strings of a given string over a binary or ternary alphabet, it has been open to designing general rewriting rules for M-equivalence independent of the alphabet size. We propose rewriting rules using exponent-strings, which are an extension of strings, as an intermediate representation. We introduce a special normal form for an exponent-string and prove that any string can be rewritten into an M-equivalent exponent-string in this special form. Then, we show that our rewriting rules characterize M-equivalence over an ordered alphabet of an arbitrary size.

Multilingual communication among children is beneficial for cultivating an attitude that respects cultural diversity at an early age. Improvements in translation accuracy by neural machine translation can enhance children's mutual understanding. However, a significant challenge remains in involving children who speak low-resource languages (with limited language resources) in multilingual communication due to poor translation quality in those languages, resulting in a low number of utterances from the children. Meanwhile, facilitators play an important role in encouraging children's dialogue. Therefore, we have analyzed the facilitator's dialogue acts in a children's intercultural workshop to clarify which acts can promote their utterances. Specifically, we annotated all facilitator utterances with a dialogue act corresponding to each instance of children's language use in the actual multilingual dialogue log. Subsequently, we tallied the number of responses to each dialogue act. With this data, we compared the number of children's responses for each dialogue act across languages, analyzed the number of children's responses in each language for each dialogue act, and examined the patterns of change in dialogue acts for language pairs where translation was involved. The analysis finds that although no act has significant differences in the number of responses across different languages, the facilitator's utterance act changes caused by machine translation can result in a difference in the number of children's responses.

Changes in both physiological structure and psychological factors occur in older adults, leading to a decline in fine motor control and inferior performance compared to young adults during touchscreen interactions. It is crucial to understand the behavioral patterns of older adults' touchscreen clicks and subsequently optimize the touch active area size based on click position bias. An experimental prototype was developed using Android Studio, and 25 participants aged 65 and above (9 males, and 16 females) were recruited for touchscreen tasks. Several key findings emerged from the study. Firstly, older adults exhibited significant deviations when clicking targets near the left and right edges of the screen. The leftward deviation was predominantly downward, while the rightward deviation was upward. Secondly, to achieve an 80% accuracy rate for older users, recommended touch active area sizes were determined as follows: 2.3 cm for the left 25% of the screen, 1.1 cm for the central 50%, 1.7 cm for the right 25%, and 2.1 cm for the entire screen. These findings could contribute to enhancing the design of touch interfaces, providing reference parameters for touch active area sizes to achieve optimal click accuracy in different screen areas.

The development and application of digital technology have led to changes in the employment structure and working style of the labor market, and the lower the density of interpersonal skills in the occupation, the easier it is to be replaced by artificial intelligence. However, emerging technological competitiveness drives innovation in user-centered business models creating more jobs. As such, smart digital technology-driven social skills training for university students in campus scenarios via business model innovation is conducive to mitigating the employment impact by the development of artificial intelligence, striking a balance between the objectives of technological development and stable employment. However, the current research lacks the exploration of the influence mechanism of smart digital technology and business model innovation on user experience at the theoretical level, which is necessary to investigate the structural relationship among experience design, business model innovation, and smart digital technology. In addition, at the application level, there is a lack of evaluation and feedback on user experience in the field of social skills training, as well as product and platform assistance in the social skills training experience process. Therefore, this paper aims to investigate the mode mechanism of social skills training experience driven by smart digital technology and business model innovation and design a new experience of job-hunting social skills training in campus scenarios.

In the context of the transformational modelling of Pairwise Well-Formed (PWWF) modes, we study transformations sigma(f) and tau(g) on four letters a, b, c, d, which we call super-syntonic and super-diatonic morphisms, respectively. They are constructed from underlying syntonic and diatonic morphisms f and g on two letters a, b. From f and g, which are instances of Sturmian morphisms, one also constructs the Well-Formed (WF) syntonic and diatonic projections of the PWWF mode in question. From a super-syntonic morphism sigma(f) one obtains the PWWF authentic triadic mode pi(d -> a)(sigma(f)(c)vertical bar sigma(f) (b)parallel to sigma(f)(a)) and the PWWF plagal triadic mode pd.a(sigma(f) (d)parallel to sigma(f) (c)vertical bar sigma(f)(b)). In Sect. 2 we complete an earlier investigation by proving that the kaleidoscope maps sigma and tau are monoid homomorphisms, i.e. sigma(f1f2) = sigma(f1)sigma(f2) and tau(g1g2) = tau(g1)tau(g2). In Sect. 3 we show that the recursive "sandwich" construction of syntonic and diatonic morphisms can be lifted to the level of super-syntonic and superdiatonic morphisms. This result enables us to show, that super-syntonic and super-diatonic morphisms, which are constructed in this way, are automorphisms of the free group F-4 with four generators.
