[14] shows that wh-questions with plural definites semantically induce pair-list answers contra [17,30] and proposes an analysis in which plural definites may perform distributive quantification. However, this analysis blurs a boundary between distributive quantifiers and plural definites, making a wrong prediction about the number sensitivity of the pair-list answers of wh-questions with the latter. I propose an alternative in which wh-questions with plural definites may induce pair-list answers without distributive quantification. I offer an implementation with a simple question semantics with Dynamic Plural Logic [1], and its extension with Dynamic Plural Inquisitive Semantics [6,26].

This paper investigates the critical challenges educators face in implementing collaborative learning and teammate peer assessment in academic settings. By reflecting on six potential malpractices, the study demonstrates how these issues contribute to suboptimal outcomes for teachers and students. As a solution, the paper introduces Teamwork Across the Curriculum (TAC), a comprehensive framework inspired by the Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) movement. TAC seeks to integrate research, academic policies, and technological advancements to enhance the quality of collaborative learning activities and peer assessment processes. Emphasis is placed on the role of educational technology as a pivotal element in the successful implementation of TAC. The study argues that a well-designed technology platform can significantly improve the efficacy and fairness of peer feedback and assessment whilst underpinning the successful adoption of the TAC pathway. The paper concludes by suggesting avenues for future research. TAC presents a promising trajectory for advancing collaborative learning and peer assessment pedagogies, aiming to produce highly employable, future-ready graduates.

Peer feedback plays a crucial role in education, especially in the context of online learning in the post-COVID-19 era. However, the relative quality of online peer feedback from male and female undergraduate students remains insufficiently understood. This research, conducted at the computer science College, King Khalid University, KSA, involved 24 male students and 32 female students. It applies Hattie and Timperley's Feedback model to investigate gender disparities in both the levels and quality of online peer feedback among undergraduate students. Additionally, this study explores the model's applicability in assessing students' perceptions of usefulness at these levels. The research participants collectively contributed 120 reviews, with 56 authored by male students and 64 by female students. Our analysis examines feedback at four levels: self, task, process, and self-regulation. Notably, gender differences emerge in the last three levels, with female students demonstrating a preference for and providing higher-quality feedback compared to their male counterparts. The study also identifies correlations between task and process levels and student preferences. The findings of this research provide valuable insights for system designers and educators aiming to enhance online peer feedback practices. The study underscores the significance of adopting gender-sensitive pedagogical approaches.

In a fast-paced urban life and an increasingly competitive environment, social pressures are increasing and people cannot help but put the pressure on themselves. When the external pressures and the internal expectations are too great, it becomes difficult to strike a balance between the two, and the depressive factors in the body become activated. If the bad mood can be resolved in time or medical attention can be sought, recovery is quick, but if it is left unchecked, it often leads to tragedies such as self-harm or suicide. The advent of the big data era has enabled the processing and application of large amounts of data on the Internet and the application of natural language processing technology, and there is a trend toward further developing psychological health diagnostics in the face of this booming technology. This paper is about the prospects for automated diagnostics in mental health with AI and its advantages. Examples of chatbots created in the past for detecting signs of depression. And it gives examples of existing AI application scenarios in mental health and their benefits.

Evasion Attack Against Multivariate Singular Spectrum Analysis Based IDS 1

Machine learning-based intrusion detection systems (IDS) are being developed to detect industrial control systems (ICS) attacks. Such IDSs monitor sensor measurements to detect abnormal structural changes in the behavior of physical dynamics of the ICS. State-of-the-art IDS are based on the multivariate singular spectrum analysis (MSSA) technique that detects structural changes in the timeseries of sensor measurements. However, adversaries can exploit MSSA. We focus on the attackers who aim to compromise the most critical component of ICS and remain undetected by IDS. As critical components of ICS are the most secure, it is difficult for the attacker to manipulate the critical sensor measurements to conceal his attack from IDS by performing a replay attack. In this paper, we propose an evasion attack technique against MSSA-based IDS. In an evasion attack, an attacker manipulates a few sensor measurements that are easily manageable instead of manipulating sensors in the critical components as a replay attacker does. To perform such a task, we develop a crafting method that crafts successive measurements which reduce the departure score of the MSSA. Further, we consider both accessibility and manipulation constraints for a realistic evaluation. We use the TE-process simulator to generate two attack scenarios for validating the evasion attack technique: stealthy attack (SA) and direct damage attack (DDA). Our experimental results show that manipulating measurements of only 13 and 20 sensors are enough to conceal SA and DDA, respectively.

Educational video games need to be fully accessible and inclusive. Fully immersive virtual reality (VR) must consider and address the needs of diverse user groups. In this paper, we propose to assess user performance, task completion and input modality preferences for a range of different gameplay modes, in either a standing or sitting position, in the educational game "Numbers and Letters". We assess the performance and usability of three input modalities: 1) a hand laser pointer for pointing and a trigger for selection, 2) a head laser pointer for pointing and a trigger for selection, and 3) a head laser pointer and a dwell time for selection, then assess differences in user performance between the sitting and standing positions for these three input modalities. The analysis was carried out with 14 users. The most preferred input modality was the hand laser pointer in the sitting position. The results stress the need to develop multimodal VR games where users can determine the way they interact with the environment.

Recurrence relations have analogies to 1D tessellations, including rhythmic patterns. We elaborate the first 16 binary recurrence relations to consider such extensions of ordered partition, exploring musical instances of such analogies. The nth term of the sequence defined by an arbitrary binary (i.e., with coefficients 0 or 1) homogeneous (i.e., with no constant term) recurrence relation counts the number of ways of partitioning (a space of size) n as an ordered sum (accumulation) of elements of a fixed set of positive integers (coalescences of unit intervals), corresponding to the non-zero precursive ("historical") terms of the recurrence relation. Rhythmically, such recurrence relation-generated sequences count the number of ways of arranging percussive (tone-oblivious) events with particular durations determined by their respective recurrence relations' precursive terms (antecedent summands). We take the opportunity to mention some characteristics of several of these recurrence relations and our corresponding neologisms: The 2nd binary recurrence relation, and the first nontrivial one, the Fibonacci, is embedded within the 13th recurrence, which we dub the "metaFibonacci." The 5th, Narayana's cows, is embedded within the 14th, so we call it "meta-Narayana's cows." The 6th, the Padovan, is embedded in the 11th, which we call "metaPadovan."

Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITSs) have significantly enhanced adult literacy training, a key factor for societal participation, employment opportunities, and lifelong learning. Our study investigates the application of advanced AI models, including Large Language Models (LLMs) like GPT-4, for predicting learning performance in adult literacy programs in ITSs. This research is motivated by the potential of LLMs to predict learning performance based on its inherent reasoning and computational capabilities. By using reading comprehension datasets from the ITS, AutoTutor, we evaluate the predictive capabilities of GPT-4 versus traditional machine learning methods in predicting learning performance through five-fold cross-validation techniques. Our findings show that the GPT-4 presents the competitive predictive abilities with traditional machine learning methods such as Bayesian Knowledge Tracing, Performance Factor Analysis, Sparse Factor Analysis Lite (SPARFA-Lite), tensor factorization and eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost). While XGBoost (trained on local machine) outperforms GPT-4 in predictive accuracy, GPT-4-selected XGBoost and its subsequent tuning on the GPT-4 platform demonstrates superior performance compared to local machine execution. Moreover, our investigation into hyper-parameter tuning by GPT-4 versus grid-search suggests comparable performance, albeit with less stability in the automated approach, using XGBoost as the case study. Our study contributes to the field by highlighting the potential of integrating LLMs with traditional machine learning models to enhance predictive accuracy and personalize adult literacy education, setting a foundation for future research in applying LLMs within ITSs.

With the recent advances taking place in producing increasingly sophisticated large language models (LLMs), there is an increasing need for LLMs to align with the sociocultural characteristics of potential end users. However, the extent to which LLMs presently capture these characteristics is not fully known, and methodologies for improving LLMs in this regard is an active area of research. In this study, we empirically evaluate some the most widely available LLMs (Phi3, Llama3, Mixtral, Mistral, Gemma, Qwen, and GPT-3.5 Turbo) on how well they represent the perspectives of individuals from different Chinese-speaking regions across Asia, finding that notable differences exist in the performance of these models across these regions.

In China's rapid urbanization, the dietary structure of preschool children tends to be high in sugar, fat, and salt. Due to increased economic and employment pressures, some Chinese families have adopted intergenerational education where children are cared for by their grandparents, who are usually not educated in modern oral health care knowledge, which leads to a lack of proper understanding of children's oral care and makes it difficult for them to effectively guide their children in proper oral care behaviors. The prevalence of early childhood caries in younger children is alarming. The main objective of this study was to develop a science-based toy product on oral care knowledge aimed at encouraging preschoolers to perform proper oral care and prevent dental caries. This study is guided by the FBM model and refers to Professor Fogg's persuasion technique, which was developed in five stages: identifying persuasive behaviors -identifying target users -analyzing the elements of user behavioral persuasion -Selecting appropriate persuasion strategies -Designing practices. By designing the children's game-based brushing method, we guide children to complete the oral care process in a fun way while fighting with monsters, correcting incorrect brushing postures in time, and ensuring the duration of children's brushing, to realize the correct process of brushing teeth on their own. We hope that this product can guide children to change bad oral care methods, establish healthy oral care habits, realize the stimulation of children's internal drive to care for their teeth and prevent children's dental caries.
