This article presents the initial results of the research project titled "Narrative Empowerment for Analysis: Epistemic Challenges in the Technical Construction of Strategic Narratives." To instrument the construction of strategic narratives, it is necessary to characterize their technical features. Gerard Genette's modal narratology, as developed in "Figures" III, allows us to describe the relationship between the pseudo-time of the narrative - the succession of sentences and pages - and the diegetic time - the time of the story being told - as well as phenomena of mode and voice. We conducted a micronarrative analysis of DGSE notes related to the Rwandan crisis in the 1990s and are now conducting a macronarrative analysis of the entire set of documents, considering their chronological succession as a single narrative for the recipients. We present the challenges encountered during the decomposition process and provide a description of the analysis output, which will serve as material for reflecting on an appropriate digital medium for the construction of strategic narratives.

Cognitive effort plays a crucial part in our multimedia consumption experience as it affects attention. However, traditional research in quality of experience (QoE) relies on the subjective ratings of a multimedia consumption experience under a lab-based environment without distractions. To make the collected QoE ratings closer to realistic usage scenarios we designed a browser-based game as an adapted QoE subjective test that can incorporate and quantify cognitive effort using a dual-task paradigm. Our pilot study results show that our proposed browser-based game is a viable protocol that can control for, and reflect, the cognitive effort via selected self-reported measures given an appropriate load range. Future work will further standardise and simplify the game protocol for robustness, repeatability and test duration.

In the present study, we explore the current research on Kahoot! and address some concerns related to the effectiveness of the tool. We report on an experiment that we conducted with 39 computerscience students in an introductory programming course, which aimed to investigate the use of Kahoot! in two-hour-long practice sessions. Results highlight some interesting aspects revealed from the students' feedback: Kahoot! proved to be an exciting and motivational tool that enabled learners to focus better. The students also perceived the tool as helpful in remembering previously taught concepts but not so much for newly taught concepts. Their overall feedback was that Kahoot! is a very useful add-on to the lesson but cannot replace traditional teaching methods. Some of the limitations of Kahoot! are related to teacher involvement (as they need to choose the right questions and allocated time) and the necessity of using a mobile device in the classroom, which might cause distractions.

In the current digital era, electronic identification (eID) is crucial for providing electronic services (e-services) and facilitating information exchange between the government, citizens, and businesses. A secure and robust eID system is vital to mitigate privacy risks and system vulnerabilities, ensuring the delivery of high-value e-services. This research focuses on evaluating the eID and its surrounding ecosystem as components of a country's critical infrastructure (CI). The study focuses on assessing the readiness of the eID ecosystem to become integral to society by enhancing its resilience. The study uses Estonia as a case study and employs a qualitative data collection methodology to explore the new phenomenon of eID's critical importance. The research delves into the application of the CI concept to the eID ecosystem, with thematic analysis used to examine the primary data gathered from semi-structured interviews with Estonian eID experts. The findings of this research include a framework for assessing eID as part of the state's CI.

Scope and (anaphoric) binding are tough problems for event semantics. Unlike the former, the latter has not even been attempted, it seems. The present paper makes an attempt and reports on the ongoing work, in the context of polynomial event semantics. Polynomial event semantics is a variable-free dialect of Neo-Davidsonian event semantics originally developed as a new approach to (quantifier) scope. Extended to relative clauses, it had to face traces, which is a form of anaphora. The present paper extends the mechanism proposed for traces to (nominal) pronouns. The same mechanism happens to also apply to discourse referents. Anaphoric binding becomes oddly symmetric. Also comes to light is a close analogy of indefinites and unbound pronouns.

Artificial Intelligence is rapidly becoming a technological tool increasingly used in everyday life and presents itself as a means of improving people's social participation. However, its use raises countless issues related to ethics, transparency or data privacy. Leaving aside the interdisciplinary issues of the ethics of Artificial Intelligence, it is considered important to underline the potential of this technology in improving teaching action. Therefore, the purpose of this reflection is to consider the strengths of the use of Artificial Intelligence in the didactic practice of teaching and learning. In fact, these technological tools, if adopted in a constructive way, could become powerful allies in teaching interaction. For this reason, some teaching research is evaluating chatbot technology as a tool to improve the teaching experience. Chatbots, in fact, provide immediate answers to disciplinary questions and several studies suggest that adopting this technology in the classroom would offer students a more personalized, engaging and accessible learning environment.

Learning Analytics Dashboards (LAD) have been developed as feedback tools to help students self-regulate their learning (SRL), using the large amounts of data generated by online learning platforms. Despite extensive research on LAD design, there remains a gap in understanding how learners make sense of information visualised on LADs and how they self-reflect using these tools. We address this gap through an experimental study where a LAD delivered personalised SRL feedback based on interactions and progress to a treatment group, and minimal feedback based on the average scores of the class to a control group. Following the feedback, students were asked to state in writing how they would change their study behaviour. Using a coding scheme covering learning strategies, metacognitive strategies and learning materials, three human coders coded 1,251 self-reflection texts submitted by 417 students at three time points. Our results show that learners who received personalised feedback intend to focus on different aspects of their learning in comparison to the learners who received minimal feedback and that the content of the dashboard influences how students formulate their self-reflection texts. Based on our findings, we outline areas where support is needed to improve learners' sense-making of feedback on LADs and self-reflection in the long term.

Cases of bias and unfair decisions in automated decision-making are heavily discussed. When unfair decisions can be attributed to a difference in the knowledge of groups of subjects, we can speak of epistemic injustice (Fricker). In this paper, we analyse the various types of epistemic injustice: testimonial, hermeneutical, distributional, and content-focused epistemic injustice, and show how they can be conceptualised. We apply the notion of epistemic injustice to analyse what went wrong in two automated decision making scandals: Toeslagenaffaire (Netherlands), and RoboDebt (Australia). We discuss key observations from the cases and show that they can be categorised as various types of epistemic injustice. Based on these observations, we draw lessons about governance of automated decision making systems.

For users, intelligent investment advisory represents a relatively low entry point into investment. However, research has shown that the factors influencing users' choice of intelligent investment advisory are the learning curve and the high financial literacy threshold, which deter many young and inexperienced individuals from opting for intelligent investment advisory. Based on research findings, the vast population of young and inexperienced individuals presents a potential target for the intelligent investment advisory market. Moreover, this demographic's financial awareness is not yet fixed and can be molded, making it an opportunity for design. In quantum mechanics, the Wigner function rho(W)(r, p) serves as a phase-space representation, capturing information about both the position r and momentum p of a quantum system. The Wigner function facilitates the calculation of expectation values of observables, examination of quantum system dynamics, and analysis of coherence and correlations. Therefore, it might serve as a tool to express quantum systems intuitively, for example, by using sonification techniques. This paper summarizes the experimental strategies employed in a previous project and delineates a new approach based on its outcomes. Emphasizing the attribution of specific Wigner functions to their underlying quantum states, dynamics, and sources;our proposed methodology seeks to refine the sonification and scoring process, aiming to enhance intuitive understanding and interpretation of quantum phenomena.
