Understanding the patterns and mechanisms behind news consumption and avoidance is crucial for fostering democratic participation and informed societies. This methodological paper introduces an approach designed to study news avoidance, addressing the limitations and biases associated with traditional self-report surveys and digitaltrace data collection. We propose an intelligent, dialogical news delivery application that simulates a real-world news consumption environment. This application segments content to provide nuanced interaction data while controlling for self-report response biases. Thus, the proposed method allows for the integration of behavioural and self-report data, leveraging the strengths of these divergent data types to offer a more comprehensive understanding of news engagement dynamics. By enabling controlled yet naturalistic interactions with news content, our approach seeks to unveil the multifaceted reasons behind news avoidance across different demographics, with a particular focus on understanding intergenerational dynamics. This study examines the impact of historical text normalization on the classification of medieval charters, focusing specifically on document dating and locating. Using a data set of Middle High German charters from the digital archive ***, we evaluate various classifiers, including traditional and transformer-based models, both with and without normalization. Our results show that normalization minimally improves locating tasks but reduces accuracy in dating, suggesting that original texts contain crucial features that normalization may obscure. We find that support vector machines and gradient boosting outperform other models, which questions the efficiency of transformers for this use case. The results suggest adopting a selective approach to historical text normalization, highlighting the importance of preserving certain textual characteristics critical for document classification.

This shows that people with low vision have become an important group that cannot be ignored in today's society. On the other hand, as Japan is located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, it experiences a higher frequency of natural disasters compared to other countries. Although the Japanese government has implemented many disaster prevention strategies to minimize civilian casualties during disasters, there are currently no special care measures for people with low vision, who are a vulnerable group. Therefore, this study believes it's necessary to develop an evacuation care system to further ensure the safety of people with low vision during disasters.

Embodied cognition plays a crucial role in this transformation. Cognition is the process of understanding and interacting with the world through physical means such as senses, movement, and spatial perception. In museums, it influences how we experience exhibits, remember history, and comprehend culture. Concurrently, the integration of mixed reality technology can extend existing spatial scenarios, assisting museums in integrating key information within exhibition spaces, thereby enhancing the overall user experience. This paper, grounded in the 4E cognition theory (Embodied Cognition, Extended Cognition, Embedded Cognition, and Enactive Cognition) and incorporating the Vision OS experience elements, employs a combined approach of qualitative and quantitative research methods. It explores the primary factors influencing participants' museum experiences and proposes a new model to measure the impact of mixed reality on museum visitors' experiences and cognition, providing new theoretical tools for advancing museum digitization efforts and the design practices of mixed reality experiences.

In today's digitalized society, online platforms undoubtedly play a significant part in assisting translation education. Whereas it is the development of the core competence of the translation learners that can truly prompt the bright future of translation field. Hence this paper begins with an overview of a corpus-assisted and knowledge-network-based online translation learning platform, and then presents the application of it in practical translation (self-) learning and pays special focus on the perception of the learners of the system. By analyzing the data collected from the questionnaire survey, the paper aims to, from learners' perceptions of the system, further focus on the feedback of learners, and then explore whether the knowledge-network-based approach plays a more efficient part in the development of translation learning and if so, how as well as the potential improvement of the system to cater to the emerging needs of the users, thus aid users in developing more efficient mode in translation learning.

Intercultural collaboration promotes diversity as a strength and builds more effective, creative, and understanding teams in a globalized world. This study explores and evaluates university students' perceptions of their intercultural competencies and acceptance of emerging technology tools, specifically Metaverse, for virtual collaboration with people from other cultures. This research employs qualitative research methodology, specifically a case study design. The sample consisted of 55 interdisciplinary undergraduate students, and data were collected through surveys and focus group discussions. The analysis focused on three main components: intercultural collaboration, international experience, and metaverse. The results highlighted that (a) most students know how to deal respectfully with different intercultural perspectives, (b) students do not always feel motivated to interact with other students from different cultural backgrounds, but they are aware that they can learn a lot from each other, (c) students who have had an international experience are more willing to involve people from different backgrounds in collaborative assignments, and (d) students think that it would be interesting and enriching to collaborate with students from other countries in the Metaverse. This study aims to be of value to academic and research communities, and to those interested in education, internationalization, and educational innovation.

With the rapid development of intelligent car technology, cars are no longer just means of transportation, but have become complex human-computer interaction systems. Therefore, user experience has become one of the key indicators for evaluating the performance of modern intelligent cars. This study explores three scenario-based intelligent car user experience evaluation methods, namely specification-centered evaluation method, journey-centered evaluation method, and demand-centered evaluation method, aiming to reflect the user experience level of intelligent cars comprehensively and accurately. This study compared and analyzed these three evaluation methods through user surveys and real vehicle tests, proving the superiority of the demand-centered evaluation method in terms of framework, content, results, and application. This method can effectively reflect the level of intelligent car user experience by evaluating the degree of satisfaction of user demands. This research provides an important reference for the design and definition of intelligent cars.

We discuss some properties of the theory of argumentation within language (AwL), comparing it to QUD-based models of discourse interpretation. We begin by introducing the theory of AwL, its motivations and its main features. We then discuss the similarities and differences between Questions under Discussion and argumentative goals, arguing against an assimilation of the two. That discussion serves as the basis for a reevaluation of the notion of at-issueness, and its relationship to the question under which a content is said to project. We conclude with a discussion of the nature of different types of meaning, drawing on distinctions in two different domains.

The introduction of GenAI in teaching and learning presents both challenges and opportunities and research shows initial evidence of student and teacher perspectives. However, limited work employs theoretical frameworks to understand the use of GenAI for common educational tasks such as the design and orchestration of student learning experiences. In this article, we use the thirdgeneration of cultural-historical activity theory to explain how these educational tasks (design and orchestration) are embedded in activity systems that include common outcomes but also contradictions. The study provides cases of ten pre-service teachers who designed chatbot-based learning activities and potential dialogues of students with chatbots in different teaching subjects in high schools. Activity theory provided a comprehensive theoretical lens to elaborate elements that require attention when designing and orchestrating learning tasks that involve GenAI.
