th This volume is an edition of the papers selected from the 13 International Conference on Advanced Robotics, ICAR 2007, held in Jeju, Korea, August 22-25, 2007, with the theme: “Viable Robotics Service to Human. ” It is intended to deliver readers the most recent technical progress in robotics, in particular, toward the advancement of robotic service to human. To ensure its quality, this volume took only 28 papers out of the 214 papers accepted for publication for ICAR 2007. The selection was based mainly on the technical merit, but also took into consideration whether the subject represents a theme of current interest. For the final inclusion, authors of the selected papers were requested for another round of revision and expansion. In this volume, we organize the 28 contributions into three chapters. Chapter 1 covers Novel Mechanisms, Chapter 2 deals with perception guided navigation and manipulation, and Chapter 3 addresses human-robot interaction and intelligence. Chapters 1, 2 and 3 consist of 7, 13 and 8 contributions, respectively. For the sake of clarity, Chapter 2 is divided further into two parts with Part 1 for Perception Guided Navigation and Part 2 for Perception Guided Manipulation. Chapter 3 is also divided into two parts with Part 1 for Human- Robot Interaction and Part 2 for Intelligence. For the convenience of readers, a ch- ter summary is introduced as an overview in the beginning of each chapter. The chapter summaries were prepared by Dr. Munsang Kim for Chapter 1, Prof.

Robotic systems have proved themselves to be of increasing importance and are widely adopted to substitute for humans in repetitive or hazardous situations. Their diffusion has outgrown the limits of industrial applications in manufacturing systems to co ver all aspects of exploration and servicing in hostile environments such as undersea, outer space, battlefields and nuclear plants. Complex robotic systems - ie robotic systems with a complex structure and architecture - are gaining increasing attention from both the academic community and industrial users. The modelling and control problems for these systems cannot be regarded as simple extensions of those for traditional single manipulators, since additional complexity arises; to accomplish tasks there is the need to ensure co-ordinated motion of the whole system together with management of interaction between each component of the system. This book focuses on two examples of complex robotic systems - namely co-operating manipulators and multi-fingered hands. It is addressed to graduate students as well as to researchers in the field.

This volume consists of 24 papers submitted for publication
by the invited speakers of the IFIP International Conference
on Stochastic Partial Differential Equations and their Ap-
plications. Most of them are research papers, however, a few
surveys written by world renowed experts are also included.
The aim of the conference was to bring together mathematici-
ans, physicists and engineers representing academic as well
as industrial fields, interested in the theory and applica-
tions of SPDE's. The field of SPDE's is one of the most dy-
namically developing areas at the cross roads of several
sciences. It is especially attractive for many because of
its interdisciplinary character and enormous richness ofal-
ready existing as well as potential applications. There were
about one hundred participants registered for the conferen-
ce. With rare exceptions, all of the most active researchers
in the field of SPDE's throughout the world were present at
the conference. The main topics for discussion at the confe-
rence were: non-linear SPDE's and Markov property for random
fields, modern stochastic calculuses, numerical and asympto-
tic methods for SPDE's, applications of SPDE's with emphasis
onnon-linear filtering, stochastic control and statistical
fluid dynamics.

Over the past decades a considerable interest has been concentrated on problems involving signals and systems that depend on more than one variable. 2-D signals and systems have been studied in relation to several modern engineering fields such as process control, multidimensional digital filtering, image enhancement, image deblurring, signal processing etc. Among the major results developed so far, 2-D digital filters are investigated as a description in frequency domain or as a convolution of the input and the unit response, which has a great potential for practical applications in 2-D image and signal processing. This monograph aims to address several problems of control and filtering of 2-D discrete systems. The European Flight Mechanics Action Group FM-AG(16) on Fault Tolerant control, established in 2004 and concluded in 2008, represented a collaboration involving thirteen European partners from industry, universities and research establishments under the auspices of the Group for Aeronautical Research and Technology in Europe (GARTEUR) program.
The book consists of five parts. Part I contains the introduction and motivation of this research project and a state-of-the-art overview in Fault Tolerant Flight control (FTC). Part II includes the description of the benchmark challenge, consisting of details of the benchmark simulation model and the assessment criteria used to evaluate the performance of the Fault Tolerant controllers. Part III covers all the different FDI/FTC design methods which have been applied to the benchmark simulation model. There are two different evaluation methods for these FDI/FTC designs, namely an off-line evaluation using the assessment criteria in the benchmark simulation model in Matlab, and an on-line evaluation on Delft’s SIMONA Research
Simulator. The off-line evaluations are described in the individual chapters in part III, whereas the latter is treated extensively in part IV where the real time assessments on the SIMONA Research Simulator are introduced and discussed. Finally part V focuses on a review of the applied methods from an industrial perspective together with some concluding remarks.
