Multimodal biometric systems are more and more investigated because are showing more effective than unimodal systems, in terms of universality, security and recognition rate. Ultrasound is showing a very attractive technology compared to the optical ones, because it allows to obtain 3D information of human body and then to achieve more accurate biometric information. In this work, a new database that contains information on both palmprint and palm vein is created. 3D images are acquired by exploiting water as coupling medium. Palmprint verification experiments are carried out by performing comparisons between methods with 2D and 3D templates, respectively. Experimental results, carried out on a database composed of about 600 samples collected from 30 volunteers, demonstrated that the system shows very good performance in terms of recognition rate (EER = 0.34%).

In moment civic areas, safety and security are essential due to the rising crime rates, especially in big metropolises and municipalities. To address this concern, we propose an innovative result called the "IOT Grounded Anti-Theft Flooring System" using a Raspberry Pi computer. This system is designed to cover our homes when we are not around. Then how it works we install special secure bottom camera in our home, and these camera are connected to the Internet of Things (IOT). When we leave our house, we spark this system. It also constantly monitors the entire area for any movement. However, a sensitive detector called a "piezo detector" detects this incontinently, If a meddler enters the area and way on one of these secure bottom penstocks. This detector sends a signal to a central regulator, which processes the signal to confirm that it a valid alert. Once the regulator verifies the alert, it takes action. It activates a camera that is connected to the system, and this camera turns to face the area where the movement was detected. The camera also captures images or videotape footage. The captured images or footage are transmitted over the internet to the system proprietor, allowing them to see what is passing in their home. This way, the proprietor can take applicable action or notify the authorities if necessary. In simple terms, this system uses special bottom penstocks and technology to describe and capture images of interferers when we are not at home, helping us keep our homes secure and giving us peace of mind.

The modern society is in a perpetual state of flux, and the demand for nourishment is rising at an exponential rate. To meet the demands of people and growing cities, daily fresh food delivery networks have to be enhanced. Food delivery systems must be firmly integrated in areas based on their individual location-based or preference-based characteristics since the fast-paced world has little time to spare even when it comes to dining. Local restaurants and other manufacturers should contact these systems and services to broaden their influence and reach out to communities and potential customers. Customers want customization options in how their purchases are completed, and they want to be able to finish their purchases or refund them swiftly and effectively. The goal of this study was to assess and evaluate the performance of Bangalore's food distribution network. The data included 388 distinct persons, with their order location given by pin code, latitude and longitude, followed by the medium of order (mobile app, walk-in, call, etc.) and their meal choices. It also considers a sustainable fresh food distribution network, client purchasing patterns, and their preferences for ordering food online. The research also presents a numerical analysis of the mentioned food network when mapped as a bipartite graph using the centrality measures and information of nodes travelling through them, through measures such as degree centrality, betweenness centrality and clustering tendency with the Girvan-Neumann algorithm.

Gas sensing has been drawing attention over the years in terms of environmental remediation and health diagnostic potential. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) qualitative/quantitative monitoring is indicative of air quality and people health status. However, VOC analysis is often performed by means of expensive and time-consuming lab-based equipment. Thus, this study proposes the fabrication and characterization steps for the development of a simple, eco-friendly and relatively inexpensive gas impedentiometric sensor. The sensing layer is comprised of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) obtained from gold tetra chloric acid (HAuCl4) and sodium citrate by means of a green synthesis approach. The analyte under investigation is acetone, one of the principal breath volatiles, also reported by plenty of studies as a potential biomarker of various diseases. Cotton textiles, with specific texture and grammage, were used as substrate. Conductive traces over the samples were patterned either with carbon/8B pencil or with a stencil-applied conductive ink. The sensor working principle is predicated on the correlation between substrate impedance changes and Van der Waals interactions between acetone and citrate-functionalized AuNPs. Charge injection and transport processes originating from acetone adsorption on the sensor reflected electrical properties variation. Impedance magnitude for the pristine sample turned out to be around 10(10) Omega, while AuNPs functionalization brought impedance down to 10(7) Omega range. On the other hand, when acetone was dripped on the sensor, a two orders of magnitude variation (from 10(7) Omega to 10(5) Omega) was observed. Hence, the sensor can be considered amenable to acetone detection by means of functionalized textiles.

A 2D analytical model for the potential profile in the semiconductor channel of two-dimensional (2D) Dirac-Source (DS) FETs is worked out and compared with a rigorous numerical solution of Poisson's equation. This analytical solution holds validity in weak inversion and enables a precise assessment of the subthreshold swing (SS) under the constraint of ballistic transport. When the device is biased in strong inversion, instead, a semi-empirical approach is worked out, which accounts for the correct potential in the middle of the channel and at the source and drain boundaries. Extensive comparisons between the analytical model and numerical results are carried out on the resulting conduction-band profiles, device characteristics and subthreshold swings. Different device geometries (gate length and oxide thickness) and morphologies (gate dielectric) are widely evaluated. This study confirms the effectiveness of DS-FETs as high-efficiency electronic switches, showing a minimum SS well below 60mV/dec and a reasonable on-state current.

Quantum Ghost Imaging (QGI) uses quantum light properties to investigate biological samples. It involves a single quantum source generating two beams: a visible signal beam detected by an image sensor and an idler beam with sample information detected by a single-channel bucket detector. Temporal correlations between these two detectors are exploited to create a ghost image of the sample at the target wavelength without requiring an expensive custom detector. This study presents a Monte Carlo simulation model of a Single Photon Avalanche Diode (SPAD) based array for QGI microscopy highlighting the key features and major limitations. A 100 x 100-pixel array prototype is presented and characterized showing a less than 3% false-event rate and an average correlation window ranging between 3 and 7.8 ns with 0.4 and 0.6 ns standard deviation respectively. A smart zero-suppression readout allows fast QGI up to 80 kframe/s.

Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), are an essential component of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) since they monitor the integrity of the network and report any suspicious or illegal activity. WSNs are susceptible to a wide variety of security risks, some of the most common of which being malicious attacks, data manipulation, unauthorized access, and compromised nodes. Identifying and addressing these security issues is much easier with the assistance of an IDS. This paper presents a machine learning model for employing IDS in WSN using Histogram Gradient Boosting Classifier. The proposed model is able to capture intricate patterns and distributions in the data in an effective manner thanks to the use of histogram representations. In addition, since gradient boosting is an iterative process, the model is able to zero in on difficult-to-detect instances of infiltration, hence continually enhancing its detection skills. However, in order to obtain optimum performance, it is necessary to appropriately tune the hyperparameters and solve possible difficulties such as class imbalance or noisy data. The proposed IDS model classified different attacks with an accuracy of 93.7%.

Reliable Cyber-Physical Systems (CPSs) must ensure their functionality according to the criticality level of their application, even under Single Event Transients (SETs) and Single Event Upsets (SEUs) caused by ionizing radiations. Dual (DCLS) and Triple Core Lockstep (TCLS) are typical radiation-hardening techniques for processors based on spatial redundancy. However, these approaches can be costly when embedding computing platforms into dependable systems with constrained area and budget requirements. We propose a low-cost fault mitigation technique targeted at SETs called Temporal Lockstep (TL), which combines temporal redundancy and minimal spatial repetition to reduce the area overhead with respect to state-of-the-art solutions. TL was implemented on the open-source Ibex core and synthesized in GF 22 nm technology. The area overhead ranges from 53% to 77%, significantly lower than the over 100% and 200% seen in DCLS and TCLS, respectively. Fault injection simulations show an 82.8% reduction in faulty execution outcomes thanks to Temporal Lockstep.

In this work we studied the device performance of a piezoelectric nanogenerator based on a green, lead-free BZT-BCT thin film. This research interest is situated within the broader framework of the internet of Things (IoT) addressing the challenge of the development of self-powered devices which has sparked significant attention. The implementation of nanogenerator, such as Piezoelectric Nanogenerators (PENGs), is a prominent focus also in the biomedical field regarding implantable devices which must be constructed with non-toxic materials. To this end, we choose to study the possibility to implement a PENG based on lead-free material such as perovskitic Barium Zirconate Titanate- Barium Calcium Titanate commonly known as BZT-BCT whose ferroelectric and piezoelectric properties have been fully characterized in a previous experimental work. In this simulation work, we studied the device performance by means of an equivalent electromechanical model integrated in a more complex circuit. The equivalent circuit has been simulated using LTSPICE software. The results demonstrate that the produced output power is a function of the load. A parametric analysis has been carried out by changing the value of the load from 1 k Omega to 100 k Omega and by imposing a Force of 1.4 mN. The maximum obtained value of the produced power dependent on the load and is equal to 19 mu W in the case of 100 k Omega. The results obtained by LTSPICE validated the use of a such material as a possible candidate for energy harvesting devices.

Negative Capacitance (NC)-based devices are receiving discernible attention in the present scenario because of their unmatchable performance. The extent of the performance of ferroelectric (FE) based NC FinFETs depends highly upon the capacitance matching, which is a burning research challenge to achieve. This work incorporates a stack of double layers of different FE materials within the oxide region instead of conventional single-layered FE material for further capacitance matching. Combining two different FE layers broadens the scope for the Landau-Khalatnikov (L-K) parameters, leading to better capacitance matching through appropriate parametric tuning. The proposed method is validated using Synopsys TCAD Sentaurus tool. The proposed device outperforms the conventional single-layered FE-based devices in terms of subthreshold swing, drain voltage, switching speed, power dissipation, etc. Further, the double-layered FE device with different materials (FE1+FE2) can serve as a prototype in advancing the NC-based devices to commercially viable technology through its scaling attributes along with better device performance.
