Vital sign monitoring is essential to prevent diseases related to cardiac and respiratory activity. Remote photoplethysmography from facial video streams is a widely used non-contact monitoring approach, based on the detection of subtle changes in skin colour caused by cardiovascular activity. This paper proposes a photoplethysmography pipeline for Heart Rate, Breath Rate, and Blood Oxygen Saturation estimation integrated into a commercial and low cost mobile device, using its frontal camera for data acquisition. The smartphone's sensing, processing, and gateway capabilities enable its use anywhere and anytime, without requiring complex setups or dedicated specialists. The algorithmic pipeline includes two main blocks: pre-processing and feature extraction/vital signs estimation, integrating various algorithmic steps for photoplethysmographic signal extraction and the estimation of the previously introduced vital signs. The validation of the system was performed on 20 individuals, and the performance were calculated in terms of Mean Absolute Error and Root Mean Square Error, considering varying ambient illumination, distance and orientation of the user's face with respect to the mobile camera. The results demonstrate that the implemented pipeline provides accurate vital signs estimation comparable to wearable sensors, enabling a real-time and non-invasive monitoring.

WBA networks support various medical applications consisting of heterogeneous requirements. For reliable data transfer, an effective media access control protocol must be used. Here in this project, a dynamic MAC protocol based on Super frame structure is proposed by extending the standard principles from IEEE 802.15.6 which is a standard protocol, a mechanism for allocating reserved slots with prioritization is used which is known to be Importance criteria Through Inter-criteria Correlation, to assign a slot allocation for each sensor device. The sensor device values are calculated based on various sensor parameters using the CRITIC method. Here, we compare our proposed work with the IEEE 802.15.6 MAC standard and other MAC protocols. The simulation shows that our proposed MAC protocol performed better in reliability, throughput, energy efficiency as well as packet delivery delay. The results show that data transmission reliability is increased by more than 60% compared to the IEEE 802.15.6 MAC standard.

This paper presents the recent scenario of most widespread area for industries and researchers which is Electric Vehicles (EVs), which are expected to boom in popularity by 2030, and their effect on grid. EV adoption is increasing steadily and rapidly in many nations, owing to lower EV pricing, environment concerns, and government subsidies. Due to obvious motives, environment variation effects and pollution through fossil-fuel-generated electricity, which would influence grids and their management. EV users charging their vehicles at home will put tremendous strain on the power supply that is sometimes unprepared. As a result, Vehicle to Grid (V2G) technology must be utilized to improve power distribution and production. The V2G technology transforms the automobile energy storage system, allowing it to sell extra stored power in EV batteries back to the power grid, and also when energy demand is highest, it helps to balance supply throughout the national system. Based on understanding some recommendations were made in this paper for further future research. This study revealed environmental concerns, Indian consumers' adoption of EVs at a fast pace, and its impact on the grid.

The application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) for the front-end charge readout of the X-ray detector for the LEM-X lunar mission concept is presented. The bare die ASIC is composed by a linear array of 32 channels with 150 mu m pitch directly wire-bonded to a large-area multi-anode silicon drift detector (SDD) used as the detection plane of an X-ray coded aperture camera. Each anode readout channel integrates an independent analog/ mixed-signal spectroscopic chain composed by a continuous-reset charge sensitive amplifier, a current-mode shaping amplifier, an amplitude discriminator for event detection, a peak-detect and hold circuit for external sampling and time-stamping, and a pile-up rejection logic. The top level circuitry is dedicated to the analog multiplexing and SPI communication with the off-chip back-end electronics. The ASIC, sent for production on a 0.35 mu m ultra low-noise CMOS technology, when coupled to the detector, permits to reach a simulated system equivalent noise charge of less than 13 electrons rms, allowing the readout of low-energy X-ray photons from 0.5 keV up to 70 keV at 0 degrees C, and complying with an functional temperature range from -55 degrees C to +30 degrees C.

This article investigates the design, simulation, and performance assessment of three protection circuits, namely, Under Voltage Lockout (UVLO), Thermal Shutdown (TSD), and Current Foldback Circuit (CFC) for overload/short-circuit protection for a Low Dropout (LDO) regulator with a fully CMOS-based Bandgap Reference (BGR) circuit. The focus is on enhancing the lifespan and effectiveness of the regulator while safeguarding it from excessive loads and high temperatures. The TSD circuit, offering a hysteresis width of 14.. C, maintains a maximum power dissipation of 1 mu W regardless of supply voltage fluctuations. The UVLO circuit permits regulator activation at a supply voltage of 1.24 V, consuming only 1.7 mu W. The CFC effectively limits the output current to 173.5 mA and foldbacks to 36.4 mA, with a power dissipation of just 7.7 mu W. Moreover, the regulator exhibits rapid transient response, transitioning in 1 mu s as the load fluctuates between 1mA and 80mA, within a supply voltage range of 1.7-2.2 V. The integrated system, comprising the regulator, bandgap reference (BGR) circuit, UVLO, TSD, and CFC, has a 41 mu A of maximum quiescent current (I-q). The system achieves overall efficiencies of 88% and 65% at input voltages of 1.7 V and 2.2 V, respectively.

A large number of power systems can be classified as weak, either due to their isolation or to the poor available interconnection to other stronger systems. In weak systems, large voltage sags are produced when power transformers are energized, owing to their inrush current. Moreover, this operation can achieve high periodicity in weak grids, e.g., in pumped hydro storage plants and in auxiliary diesel units. The voltage dips that are produced have a negative effect on power quality and can even cause to trip certain consumers via undervoltage load shedding. In order to reduce the inrush currents of main power transformers and hence to improve power quality in weak power systems, in thiswork it is proposed to install a series-connected auxiliary power transformer through which intermediate energization of the main power transformer is carried out before its direct connection to the grid is executed. Simulations of this method have been performed to evidence the minimization of inrush current and further aspects such as breaker closing times and power source paralleling have been analyzed.

Quantum Ghost Imaging (QGI) uses quantum light properties to investigate biological samples. It involves a single quantum source generating two beams: a visible signal beam detected by an image sensor and an idler beam with sample information detected by a single-channel bucket detector. Temporal correlations between these two detectors are exploited to create a ghost image of the sample at the target wavelength without requiring an expensive custom detector. This study presents a Monte Carlo simulation model of a Single Photon Avalanche Diode (SPAD) based array for QGI microscopy highlighting the key features and major limitations. A 100 x 100-pixel array prototype is presented and characterized showing a less than 3% false-event rate and an average correlation window ranging between 3 and 7.8 ns with 0.4 and 0.6 ns standard deviation respectively. A smart zero-suppression readout allows fast QGI up to 80 kframe/s.

Soft skin interfaces enhance haptic interactions. We focus on a soft electronic skin integrating PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride tetrafluoroethylene) piezoelectric polymer transducers. Previous research revealed the PVDF's output signal dependence on grasping speed, suggesting a viscoelastic mechanical behavior that the soft layer could influence, too. Through finite element analysis (FEA), we explore how the viscoelastic properties of the soft protective layer of an electronic skin affect stress transmission to the PVDF piezoelectric transducers below.

A majority of previous research on the problem of floor planning has been limited to constructing floor plans with rectangular exterior boundaries. It includes rectangular floor plans (RFPs) (Kozminski and Kinnen in IEEE Trans-Actions Circuits Syst 35:1401-1416, 1988, [1]) for properly triangulated plane graphs (PTPGs) having four or fewer corner implying paths (CIPs), where both the modules and exterior boundary are considered rectangular, and orthogonal floor plans (OFPs) (Liao et al in J Algorithms 2:441-451, 2003, [2]) for the remaining graphs (which do not possess RFPs), where the exterior boundary is rectangular but modules are taken of rectilinear shapes (L-shaped, T-shaped, Z-shaped, etc.). As an alternative to OFPs, sometimes floor plans containing rectilinear external boundaries and rectangular modules can also be obtained, known as non-rectangular floor plans (Raveena Shekhawat in Theor Comput Sci 942:57-92, 2023, [3]). This work aims to investigate non-rectangular floor plans (NRFPs) providing the best alternative solution in terms of the least number of concave corners (comparing with the number of bends in OFPs) for the PTPGs having more than four CIPs. We present a linear time algorithm to construct NRFPs with the least possible number of concave corners at the exterior boundary corresponding to the PTPGs with more than four CIPs. Further, we claim that the obtained NRFPs are non-trivial. An NRFP is considered non-trivial if the count of concave corners at its exterior boundary cannot be lowered without disrupting the horizontal and vertical adjacencies of the modules. In addition, we demonstrate that it is always feasible to produce an NRFP with precisely k - 4 concave corners for any PTPG with k;k > 4 CIPs.
