The use of open GIS standards offers a broad variety of potential, particularly in the field of data exchange, data storage, and interoperability. GML and CityGML are excellent examples for the ontological description of real world objects by means of an open standard whereas SensorML serves to describe measurements, sensors and measuring platforms. The use of such standards offers not only the possibility of using a common standardised language, but also the use of open service standards. The combination of spatial data and sensor standards in services and service-oriented architectures goes far beyond previous existing solutions on the market and provides a novel platform for monitoring structures. That in fact is far more than a simple data storage model. The methods and models presented in this contribution allow a direct integration of sensor data and its provision through an open standard language. In this case, all the intermediate steps at any time through an open service interface are addressed and may be made available and provided to different actors and stakeholders participating in a construction scenario. The great potential and the added value of such an information system is the permanent availability of measurement and object data and an associated integrated analysis of sensor data in combination with a finite element model (FEM). The automatic derivation of a finite element model from the 3D structure model, the visualisation of FEM, the provision of raw (measurement) data and sensor information for each time of measurement transform the platform into auniversal tool in the field of structural monitoring. This contribution introduces the individual components, the standards used and the interaction between the components to an overall system.

How people in the city perceive their surroundings depends on a variety of dynamic and static context factors such as road traffic, the feeling of safety, urban architecture, etc. Such subjective and context-dependent perceptions can trigger different emotions, which enable additional insights into the spatial and temporal configuration of urban structures. This paper presents the Urban Emotions concept that proposes a human-centred approach for extracting contextual emotional information from human and technical sensors. The methodology proposed in this paper consists of four steps: (1) detecting emotions using wristband sensors, (2) "ground-truthing" these measurements using a People as Sensors location-based service, (3) extracting emotion information from crowdsourced data like Twitter, and (4) correlating the measured and extracted emotions. Finally, the emotion information is mapped and fed back into urban planning for decision support and for evaluating ongoing planning processes.

Trajectory data analysis has recently become an active research area. This is due to the large availability of mobile tracking sensors, such as GPS-enabled smart phones. However, those GPS trackers only provide raw trajectories (x, y, t), ignoring information about the activity, transportation mode, etc. This information can contribute in producing significant knowledge about movements, which transforms raw trajectories into semantic trajectories. Therefore, research lately has focused on semantic trajectories;their representation, construction, and applications. This paper investigates the current studies on semantic trajectories so far. We propose a new classification schema for the research efforts in semantic trajectory construction and applications. The proposed classification schema includes three main classes: semantic trajectory modeling, computation, and applications. Besides, we discuss the current research gaps found in this research area.

A high share of bicycle traffic in urban areas can be advantageous in order to tackle traffic related problems such as congestion, over-crowded public transportation or air pollution. Through an increased dissemination of e-bikes in recent years, cycling has become a viable transportation alternative for an even broader audience. The consequences of this trend on urban mobility are not yet clear. In order to get a clearer picture, one first needs to understand the major usage differences between e-bikers and cyclists. In this paper we demonstrate how a first insight into these differences can be gained by analysing GPS tracking data, recorded within the context of a field study. E-bikers as well as conventional cyclists prefer riding on any kind of bike trail whilst e-bikers rather choose bike trail types with a larger exposure to vehicular traffic. Taking a minimal distance route was the most important route choice factor for both cyclists and e-bikers. E-bikers perceived their rides to be slightly more safe and convenient as compared to conventional cyclists.

This chapter introduces a novel technique for post-disaster mapping and disaster scale estimation based on an integrated framework of SAR remote sensing and a 3D city model database, optical remote sensing imagery is used for validation purpose. SAR based urban damage detection is well established and has been used for many years. We have showed that how the existing 3D City Model can be updated with the information extracted from satellite remote sensing data. The third dimension will play a very crucial role in evacuation rout planning of damaged or affected buildings. In this study in the proposed-three-level (L1, L2, L3)-model damage assessment information is integrated with the semantic knowledge of 3D city models in order to better organize the search and rescue operation. L1 includesremotely sensed Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) space-borne data collection from the affected areas;L2 includes a change detection process;and L3 includes the estimation of the most affected building(s). Using this model, we show how the day-night image acquisition capability of a SAR sensor and semantic information from a 3D city model can be effectively used for post disaster mapping for rapid search and rescue operations. For L1, the combination of very high resolution SAR data and a 3D city model in CityGML format is used. L2 works under predefined conditions to detect the types of changes that have occurred. In L3, an interval-valued fuzzy soft set theory method is proposed with which to estimate the scale of damage to the affected structures (buildings). In this study, we show the potential application of existing 3D city models (with semantic knowledge) in combination with SAR remote sensing for post disaster management activities, especially for search and rescue operations.

In the field of traffic engineering, drivers' confusion during yellow interval is a great danger to traffic safety. To help drivers solve such problem, an LBS-based dilemma zone warning system at signalized intersection is designed. Different from other dilemma zone solving systems, this is an active safety system, which makes it possible to help drivers take active actions according to reliable warnings. An algorithm based on data from Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) and traffic signal detector (TSD) was built in the single-chip microcomputer of Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC). Corresponding voice warnings ("stop" or "go") would be sent to drivers by on-board voice alerter. Besides, communication delay and drivers' reaction time were taken into consideration in the design of warning areas ahead of dilemma zone. To reveal characteristics of reaction time, a field test has been conducted and the reaction time is shorter than current standard. When vehicles are detected in different warning areas, drivers would get alarmed at the beginning of yellow interval. Moreover, this system has been verified feasible in theory by a case study at signalized intersection.

The increased growth of location-based services and the ongoing work on 3D GIS applications along with the fact that people spend most of their time indoors lead to a strong motivation for support and development in indoor space applications. When we ask someone the way, it is noticeable that people give route descriptions in an abstract and symbolic manner referring to landmarks or signs. Moreover, we know that people comprehend and structure space in recurring imaginative patterns-image schemata-while moving through and interacting with their environment. However, existing indoor navigation frameworks as well as building models do not integrate these cognitive concepts since mechanisms for defining such required semantics have not been developed yet. In order to support a navigation scenario in indoor environments by integrating human wayfinding principles in route instructions, we (1) identified potential landmarks based on cognitive concepts;(2) evaluated them according to a set of requirements;and (3) established a thematic framework for enhancing existing building models with the needed semantics and requirements. This framework will help developers to add the required attributes to the correct semantic classes of CityGML, IFC, or KML models to provide suitable routing instructions in terms of in-house routing out of these models.

The paper is focused on the problem of resources management in environment of the intelligent geo information systems (IGIS) for solving complicated operational tasks in conditions of limited resources. Support of agile features in IGIS requires considerable amount of additional resources for building, modifying and executing context sensitive processes in dynamics. The proposed solution assumes management of the system processes using a set of business rules and policies that allow make comprehensive estimations of processes priorities based on their complexity and importance;reduce amount of calculations using revealed information and knowledge from historical data;distribute loading of the technical means due to preliminary data processing and analyses made according to expected behavior of end users. The dynamic resource management is implemented using means and tools of artificial intelligence that are a part of IGIS and ready program components of the middleware level provided by Globus Toolkit.

InSAR (Interferometric synthetic aperture radar) techniques and applications are very useful for monitoring and mapping different types of deformations such as landslides, subsidence and volcanic activities on the Earth surface. In this research, we investigated Babadag landslide (Denizli in western Turkey) by using the InSAR techniques and compare our previous research from Karaman city, central Turkey. An active landslide in Babadag county has been issued in the study by using DInSAR to monitor the vertical deformation amount. According to initial results, the application of DInSAR has not have sensitive like PSInSAR in Karaman for the recognition of subsidence. In the further step, PSInSAR technique will be applied for the Babadag landslide.
