Location-Based Services (LBS) have a huge and rapidly growing market, however LBS market reports do not fully agree about the current market size, the exact number of LBS users, market growth rate, etc. Different market study reports describe LBS market size, number of LBS subscribers and frequent users, revenues and costs and most appreciated application types with different and sometimes extremely contrasting numbers and figures and this becomes more problematic when it comes to forecasting the future market of LBS. One of the very first steps in any market analysis is defining business contribution area, which decides what should be included in or excluded from the market analysis. Location based services has got a large market;therefore it is not an easy task to identify LBS market's boundaries to analyse what is inside the box as LBS applications and exclude the rest. This paper explains the impact of such vague boundaries on market size estimation.

In this paper, we report on an ongoing project supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China with Shanghai Pudong New District selected as the case area. The urban freeway pavement monitoring data from Pudong traffic police department and key vehicles data from a business company respectively have been collected to study traffic events, traffic accidents as well as the driving trajectory and status of key vehicles. Then by integrating the traffic data with the traffic safety warning model, the active safety service can be provided to other drivers through an iOS App. In this App, the functions of accident black spot alert service, traffic incident early warning service and key vehicles early warning service have been developed and included.

As a result of OpenStreetMap's (OSM) openness and wide availability, there is increasing interest in using OSM street network data in routing applications. But due to the heterogeneous nature of Volunteered Geographic Information (VGI) in general and OSM in particular, there is no universally valid answer to questions about the quality of these data sources. In this paper we address the lack of systematic analyses of the quality of the OSM street network for vehicle routing and the effects of using OSM rather than proprietary street networks in vehicle routing applications. We propose a method to evaluate the quality of street networks for vehicle routing purposes which compares relevant street network features as well as computed route lengths and geometries using the Hausdorff distance. The results of our case study comparing OSM and the official Austrian reference graph in the city of Vienna show close agreement of one-way street and turn restriction information. Comparisons of 99,000 route pairs with an average length of 6,812 m show promising results for vehicle routing applications with OSM, especially for route length computation where we found median absolute length differences of 1.0 %.

Although hydraulic erosion modeling on a GIS terrain models has been addressed by a body of previous work, it still remains an open problem. In GIS, raster representation and triangular irregular networks (TIN) are the most commonly used surface models, because they are simple and offer implicit topological information. However, these data structures do not allow the simulation of erosion on concave terrain features, such as caves or overhangs. Other methods, more commonly used in the computational fluid dynamics, use volumetric data representation. They are able to model the 3D features, but they usually have high memory requirements and are computationally demanding. We propose a novel solution to the hydraulic erosion modeling problem that uses a triangular mesh data structure. Our framework allows for adaptive changes of the mesh resolution according to the local complexity of the terrain, which leads to lower memory requirements when compared to the volumetric approaches. Our data structure also supports the visualization of the concave 3D features, allowing the simulation and visualization of erosion on terrain elements such as tunnels or caves.

The article discusses a surface classification above the stored gas facilities in the territory under the administration of the RWE Company in the Czech Republic (CR). The aim of the project was to determine reproductive values of these facilities and a reasonable estimate of the costs that would be spent on a construction of new pipelines. The classification uses a raster dataset of orthophoto with the resolution of 25 cm/1 pixel, a vector dataset of the Fundamental Base of Geographic Data (ZABAGED) and vector datasets of the route of underground utilities. As part of the assignment, it was necessary to classify a surface from two perspectives: from the object standpoint (the surface above gas facilities) and the spatial standpoint (administrative division of the territory of the CR). The authors have succeeded in creating a technological line (workflow) with a high degree of automation. The core of this workflow is a geographic information system (GIS). The technology has been implemented within a special application developed in Python language with a support of the ESRI libraries and ArcGIS 10.0. It is massive task given the territorial coverage of almost the whole of the CR with the area of 64,350 km2 with a data volume of the order of 500 GB. The results demonstrated the effectiveness of proposed procedure to achieve low error rate in the range of 2-3 % across the modeled area.

Today the problem of the radar visibility zone modelling under hydrometeorological conditions is essential. Using such modelling we can predict radar maximum capabilities for detection of various objects within the required environment in specific hydrometeorological conditions. Obtained information allows not only to provide the high efficiency of radar operation but to improve its work, save material and energy resources. With the active development of GIS and environmental monitoring systems (including space system) accounting more fully for hydrometeorological conditions such as atmospheric precipitates, heaving of the sea and other becomes realizable. However it is required to improving the mathematical methods of the operational creation of the radar visibility zone with hydrometeorological conditions.

The paper tackles the issue of accuracy of digital terrain models, which is a long term research area at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen. In 2014, a new generation of digital terrain models were completed in the Czech Republic. This fact initiated an impulse for new measures and tests in this field. The accuracy tests have been realized by comparing the Digital Terrain Models (DTM) of the Czech Republic-the 5th Generation (DTM 5G) and the previous generation of altimetry data from ZABAGED (R). The test have been performed in two selected test fields in the Pilsen Region. This comparison was done already in previous research, but it was built on pre-released laser scanning data before the final filtration and gross error clearing. In order to confirm the results from the previous testing, the comparison has been repeated using the final dataset. The robust method of DTM accuracy evaluation developed at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen and a highly automated implementation of the comparative method on 250 local test sites (total area of 85 km(2)) have been applied in this project. The algorithm's implementation is based on ArcPy libraries provided by Esri. The key parts of the Python source code are described in detail and the whole algorithm is published as open-source. The tests proved that the pre-release dataset was good enough for accuracy testing. The results are similar with the previous research. It underlines the value of the new generation of altimetry data in the Czech Republic. Their accuracy is significantly higher than the previous generation in ZABAGED (R).

Proliferation of pervasive devices capturing sensible data streams, e. g. mobility records, raise concerns on individual privacy. Even if the data is aggregated at a central server, location data may identify a particular person. Thus, the transmitted data must be guarded against re-identification and an un-trusted server. This paper overcomes limitations of previous works and provides a privacy preserving aggregation framework for distributed data streams. Individual location data is obfuscated to the server and just aggregates of k persons can be processed. This is ensured by use of Pailler's homomorphic encryption framework and Shamir's secret sharing procedure. In result we obtain anonymous unification of the data streams in an un-trusted environment.

In recent years, an increasing number of route planning applications and services have been developed and were brought to the market for different specific use cases. Most of those products are based on the client-server framework that typically combines the database server with the application server for storing the relevant network model, performing the routing calculation, and sending the result back to the client. However, this client-server framework mostly restricts users from changing, modifying, or augmenting the network model with respect to their specific contextual routing requirements. This paper presents a new approach for context aware route planning through coupling of a multilevel cloud-based system architecture with the complex IndoorGML data model, which is an upcoming OGC standard for representing and exchanging semantics, geometry, and topology information of indoor 3D building models. The geometric and logical network model can be rapidly extracted from the IndoorGML data model within the framework of the Multilayered Space-Event Model (MLSEM). Unlike the classical two-tier client-server architecture, the proposed multilevel cloud-based system allows exporting and uploading the network model from a database server to the cloud services that serve as an intermediate system-level to make the exported network model modifiable over the Internet without altering the original data. All changes of the network model with respect to different specific events will be applied in real-time, and the corresponding route planning calculations can then be carried out at the client-side respectively.

In this paper, we present recent results on coupling geographic, infrastructure, and building models to multi-resolution numerical simulations. In order to achieve this, a parallel data access framework with interfaces to all parts of the simulation pipeline such as pre-processing, numerical simulation, and post-processing has been developed. The applicability of the approach presented in this work is shown by simulating urban flooding including surface flow of a city, the pipe network interaction, and its consequences to individual buildings. While the real life city model including the drainage system has been provided by the authorities of the city of Munich and comprises an area of about 2 by 2 km with detailed topography and a complete set of approximately 3,000 buildings modelled on LOD 1 of CityGML, IFC-models are the initial starting points for generating octrees on the level of individual buildings. In order to investigate the effects of the drainage system collapsing due to a heavy rain scenario, a fully three-dimensional parallel free surface flow simulation is incorporated with the interaction of the one-dimensional pipe-network flow. The whole simulation is performed on three levels of resolution, each of which is discretised by a fast voxelisation algorithm to generate a computational grid for the CFD simulation.
