Lack of energy efficiency in mechanical engineering, particularly food and processing mechanical engineering, is a factor holding back integration into the European and world space. Implementing the jet-slit milk homogenizer with a separate cream supply is possible to improve the energy efficiency of homogenization and dispersion processes, which are the most energy-consuming in the milk processing industry. The essence of its work is based on creating conditions for the disruption of milk fat particles when high local changes in the speed of cream and skim milk appear, which determines its high efficiency. Analytical studies were based on the dependencies of classical hydrodynamics and parameter modeling in the ANSYS complex. It has been established that to obtain a high-quality milk emulsion, the shape of the inner surface at the zone of highest speed should have a conical profile. The simulation results show that to ensure the hydrodynamic conditions necessary for the disruption of fat globules, lower operating pressure values should be set, and the diameter of the zone of highest speed should be less than 4 mm. The results of experimental studies carried out on the developed laboratory equipment indicate a slight influence on the dispersion of the diameter of the confusor in the range of 2-4 mm. At the same time, the speed of supplying skimmed milk should be within 30-110 m/s. The data obtained during experimental studies correlate well with the results of modeling. It is possible to ensure high dispersion while simultaneously reducing the energy costs of dispersing at a feed speed of skim milk of 60-90 m/s. The experimental homogenizer meets the requirements of modern milk processing technology, as it provides high dispersion of the product at the level of valve machines.

Measurements for the functional evaluation of knee joint mobility are essential, e.g., to determine the need for invasive surgery and quantify patient outcomes. While vision-based motion capture systems offer high precision, they require specialized laboratories and trained staff. This paper introduces KARMA (Knee Angle Resistive Measurement Apparatus), an instrumented knee sleeve with six resistive flex sensors to measure knee joint angles. The proposed device features wearability, low cost, and flexibility, enabling pre- and post-operative evaluations for patients eligible for knee surgery. A case study was performed using a marker-based motion capture system as a reference. This demonstrated KARMA's ability to measure flexion-extension angles but highlighted its inability to measure abduction-adduction and internal-external rotation angles. We discuss the potential of this novel approach and propose subsequent design improvements.

The article addressed the following issues: general principles of superconductivity conditions in braking pairs;E. Schrodinger equation and F. Bloch law;superconductivity of 1st and 2nd kind in braking pairs;and discussion of results. The first group includes so-called superconductors of 1st kind, cooling with surface positive energy (E-n > 0). The negative sign of surface energy (E-n < 0) characterizes the superconductors of the second group. The top layers of the working surface are induced by the action of friction forces (F-Ti) and pulsed regular forces (N-i), between which the Eq. (0,35 - 0,6) Ni = F-Ti;is correct;in this case, they interact with the crystal lattice. The lower layers, located on the non-operational side of the surface, experience the internal interaction between the paired Cooper electrons and the crystal lattice. Electrical, magnetic, and thermal gradients decrease magnitude from external to internal exposure. The presence of various types of contacts and their transformation associated with electrical resistance promotes superconductivity of the local character of 1st kind. A characteristic feature of electric current is the appearance of a vortex magnetic field.

This paper presents the robust optimization of a galloping-based piezoelectric wind energy harvester (GPWEH) using Taguchi method. A mathematical model of the GPWEH is established for calculating the voltage output of the harvester. The Taguchi design method is used to formulate the experimental designs for the harvester with the parameters variations. The signal-to-noise ratio (S/N) of the voltage output is derived from the larger-the-better characteristic value of each experimental condition. The maximum S/N obtained from the effect analysis of the S/N of the voltage output is used to determine the optimal factorial combination of the parameter level. The results show that with the optimal design combination, the average voltage output of the harvester is 114.9 V at an excitation wind speed of 6 m/s, which is 12.4% higher than that from the original design combination. The study provides a guideline for the robust optimization of the GPWEH based on the Taguchi method.

With an increase in flexibility in industries adopting the tenets of shared, skill-based, and modular production, a higher variability of products a single manufacturer offers can be anticipated. An immediate consequence is a potential inability to instruct assembly personnel in an adequate and detailed manner. This problem would primarily affect small and medium enterprises engaged in individual and small series productions. To face the issue, this paper examines the suitability of facilitating an AI assistant to support workers handling an ever-expanding range of assembly tasks. This assistant would be realized through a retrieval-augmented generation system, founded on an Large Language Model (LLM) and a knowledge base. We especially propose a locally trained and hosted LLM, aiming to enhance effective flexibility and applicability while minimizing individual installation and setup times. By strictly formalizing descriptions of assembly or disassembly steps in a knowledge base, manufacturing difficulties can be presented as informational problems, at which LLMs excel. Through this, we are trying to extend the increased efficiency of knowledge workers empowered by utilization of LLMs such as GPT-4 into manufacturing. Using verbal inputs as well as reading the generated feedback back to a worker, we aim to keep a worker engaged with their primary tasks and, furthermore, reduce idle times caused by knowledge gaps. By taking this verbal/auditive-only approach, we secondarily aim towards increasing worker autonomy by answering miscellaneous workplace-related questions alongside knowledge-based problems of the day-to-day business.

Stroke survivors often experience debilitating upper limb conditions, requiring therapy and rehabilitation exercises to regain limb function. However, frequent visits to medical centers for treatment sessions pose challenges. This paper presents GripDome, a prototype designed to measure grip strength in a userfriendly and highly tailorable manner, enabling strength recovery for patients in domestic environments without the need for medical assistance. GripDome consists of an elastic, inflatable silicone dome connected to a plastic base. Patients exert pressure inside the device by squeezing the dome with varying forces, which is measured using an external pressure transducer and a microcontroller. The prototype offers adjustable resistance levels, facilitating quantitative assessment of grip strength and personalized rehabilitation progress tracking.3D printing is employed for plastic components, enhancing affordability and customization. Experimental tests demonstrate GripDome's ability to distinguish forces of different intensities and repeatability of measurements. The prototype's pneumatic system allows dynamic adjustment of resistance levels, tailoring rehabilitation paths to individual needs.

In many areas of engineering, there is a growing need for accuracy and reliability of assembled systems. To ensure this accuracy, and to ensure the correct function of the part within the assembly, both dimensional and geometric tolerances must be correctly set at the design stage. An important tool, now irreplaceable in any CAD software, is the Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) control, which through algorithms can assign geometric and dimensional tolerances. In this manuscript authors present an original procedure for measuring and verifying the cylindricity tolerance of hinge bushings. A millesimal bore gauges was used to measure the internal diameter at different angular positions in each bushings' sections. Starting from these measurements, the cylindricity of the inner surface of the bushing is evaluated through the least square cylinder (LSC) method. The angular deviation of the bushing axis is then evaluated based on the cylindricity assessment. The procedure allows to easily check, during assembly operations, whether the objects to be assembled are within tolerance without the need to resort to the most expensive and complex procedure through Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM). Operation could be carried out on an assembly line by an operator using a pre-set spreadsheet. The results of the experimental measurements are compared with the output of a coordinate measuring machine to demonstrate the accuracy of the proposed procedure.

The purpose of the study is to design didactic mechanisms for the formation of managerial competence of engineers in the system of technological quality assurance of the management process of their professional training. In the study, the contradictions of solving the pedagogical problem of quality management of the professional training of engineers were determined, and the pedagogical conditions for their solution were substantiated. An engineer's managerial competence is a systemic formation representing professional, administrative, psychological, and creative aspects of synergistic development. The process of professional training of engineers in the system of management of educational and creative activities of applicants is analyzed. Didactic means of forming a creative educational environment under the conditions of implementation of the pedagogical technology "Management-education" were considered. The stages of quality control of the formation of the engineer's managerial competence were studied. The criteria and indicators of the quality of professional training of engineers are determined, considering the influence of factor characteristics. The results of pedagogical experiments to determine the impact of a creative educational environment on the level of formation of managerial competence of engineers are analyzed. The effectiveness of the proposed quality management system for the professional training of engineers in the conditions of the "Management-education" pedagogical technology has been proven.

Electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) are a large family of common products that support the daily activities of our life (e.g. washing of clothes, food storage, cooking). In this sector the scarce use of life cycle engineering methods and tools represents an important barrier against the practical implementation of circular economy models. The study aims to propose a platform, called PiCo2RAEE, to support the design and management of the EEEs during the whole life cycle, fostering collaboration among the most important life cycle stakeholders, from designers to consumers to subjects involved in end-of-life management. The platform integrates three main modules: (i) a tool dedicated to the design for disassembly;(ii) a digital tool to track relevant information among all the value chain stakeholders;(iii) a tool to favor the sharing and recirculation of information, competences, products, components and materials. The PiCo2RAEE platform aids the adoption of circular models based on enhancing EEEs durability, recyclability, repairability, upgradability, remanufacturability.

The aviation industry aims to reduce costs in aircraft design, manufacturing, and maintenance. Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) is a key technique for monitoring the health of aircraft structures, providing valuable data throughout their operational life. This data can enhance design techniques, production control, real-time structural health evaluations, and maintenance plans, improving reliability and safety. This study examines the effectiveness of distributed fiber optic sensors in detecting impact damage on a full-scale composite wing. The sensors track changes in strain distribution caused by controlled impacts at predefined locations. A specific algorithm developed by CIRA identifies the position and size of the damage without relying on reference systems of the undamaged structure. Through structural tests under load, the SHM system's accuracy in detecting damage was experimentally validated. Funded by the Clean Sky 2 Joint Undertaking under the EU Horizon 2020 program, this research advances SHM techniques for aeronautical applications and presents an alternative to traditional Non-Destructive Inspection (NDI) methods.
