The numerical methods are used to solve the nonlinear two-dimensional (2D) shallow water equations (SWEs) for simulating flows in open channels. In this regard, approximate Riemann solvers are popular for accurately predicting flows characterized by discontinuities and shocks that are common on highly variable real topography. In this study, a meshless numerical method on irregularly distributed points over the physical domain is proposed to solve the 2D SWEs. We solve the 2D SWEs using the HLL approximate Riemann solver within the frame work of the weighted least square (WLS) meshless method. For this purpose, the computational domain is delineated by randomly positioned points. For each of these points, several neighbouring points are chosen to form a cloud of points, called satellites. These points are numerical grid points which are not necessarily to be connected with each other. The WLS form of the HLL approximate Riemann solver is then formulated for computing the convective fluxes. In the WLS method, the spatial derivatives are evaluated at every point using the values at its cloud of points and a weight function, which determines the influence of cloud of points on the considered point. The primitive variables are also reconstructed using the WLS approximation. The performance of this method is validated by simulating a 2D partial dam-break flow and hydrographs at different stations are presented. It is found that the proposed meshless method is robust and capable of accurately predicting dam-break flow.

This paper aims to contribute to facilitate the contribution of people to production processes by promoting an integrative framework promoting collecting specific and helpful data from the workers impacting in the process but also to facilitate data integration with process data. For industrial processes these aspects are significantly challenging because that integration must happen in multi-tenant environments and human behaviors are affected by time dependent factors such as tiredness, stress, work overload, etc. To deal with these constraints, the technology involved for human data collection requires particular attention, allowing to facilitate not just understanding about the process syntaxis but also the semantic interpretation. Therefore, this paper will deeply describe some of the involved implementation details.

The accuracy of the complex machined part is one of the key aspects of High-Speed Milling (HSM) performance. CAM software tends to meet this requirement by approximating the real tool path by short, linear blocks discontinuous at tangents. The smoothing of these discontinuities would be necessary to minimize the NC machine vibration as it passes through these discontinuities. This paper aims to explore the effect of programmed smoothing parameters (G641, G643) on the kinematic behaviour of the NC machine, by a set of experimental tests. The experimental test shows that G641 provides a smoother curvature variation compared toG643. This difference is reflected in the feed rate variation, where G641 shows high fluctuations, while G643 maintains a nearly constant feed rate.

Cell-centered, finite-volume methods based on time discretization and linearization and approximate factorization techniques together with piecewise-linearization in space and piecewise-analytical integration, are presented and applied to a system of two-dimensional, nonlinear, advection-reaction-diffusion equations. The methods are exact for time-independent, one-dimensional, advection-diffusion equations with constant coefficients, are of the exponential-type, and one of them results in the well-known first-order upwind and second-order central-difference methods for very large and small Peclet numbers, respectively.

Robotic pick-and-place process is a typical robotic manufacturing process, which is widely used in many applications. In the meanwhile, sustainable manufacturing is being paid much attention and the energy consumption during the robotic pick-and-place process could be further improved to enhance the sustainability. However, the payload deployed on the industrial robot is always uncertain and the existing energy-efficient trajectory optimization method could not be dynamically used for this situation. In this paper, digital twin-based energy-efficient trajectory optimization for robotic pick-and-place process under uncertain load is proposed. The digital twin for robotic pick-and-place process under uncertain payload is firstly built. Afterwards, the proximal policy optimization algorithm is used to realize energy-efficient trajectory optimization under uncertain payload. Finally, case study is conducted to validate the proposed method. The results show the effectiveness of the digital twin model and the Proximal Policy Optimization algorithm in reducing the energy consumption of the robotic pick-and-place process, which improves the sustainability of robotic pick-and-place process.

The Ogura-Ike Pond (area of 794 ha and maximum water depth of 1.1 m), located in the middle basin of the Yodo River Basin, possessed a flood control function because of being connected to the Uji River through a braided channel and inhabited various organisms of the Yodo River Basin. After being diked in 1941, the pond lost its flood control function and living things disappeared from it. Recently, heavy rainfall has been occurring more frequently than expected in various areas in Japan. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has announced a new policy, River Basin Disaster Resilience and Sustainability by All, that considers river basins as spaces that include the watershed and flood plain areas (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism in River basin disaster resilience and sustainability by all-Japan's new policy on water-related disaster risk reduction, 2020). Flood disaster risks are also increasing in the middle and downstream basin of the Yodo River Basin. In this study, we considered that whether the water level and flow rate in the middle and lower reaches of the Yodo River could be reduced by installing a retarding basin in the middle reaches of the Yodo River Basin, using unequal flow analyses and unsteady flow analyses. These results of analyses showed that the water level could be reduced by 0.2 m and the flow rate could be reduced by 500 m(3)/s at the downstream Hirakata point by installing a retarding basin.

Fossil-based fuels have been powering our economies for years. They account for about80% of the global energymix. However, despite their dominance, fossil fuels are finite and have negative impacts on the environment and climate-related changes. Saudi Arabia under Vision 2030 sees this issue and build their Vision to reduce the indecency on oil and achieve net zero emission by introducing renewable and alternative source of energy in their energy mix such as nuclear power. Saudi Arabia is following the IAEA milestones in the development of national infrastructure for nuclear power. Because nuclear technology requires knowledgeable and highly skilled personnel to ensure its safe deployment and sustainability, human resource development (HRD) is 1 of the 19 key infrastructure requirements that the IAEA mentioned. It needs to be implemented during the design, construction and subsequent operationalization of nuclear power plants. Saudi Arabia is constructing the Low Power Research Reactor (LPRR) as a tool to transfer nuclear technology and train future operators for nuclear power plants. This study will focus on the potential role of research reactors that can play in building the nuclear human capacity for nuclear energy generation. Findings show that research reactors can help nuclear human resource capacity, especially with regard to education and training that can be used to not only develop but also maintain the human resources necessary for supporting the safe and sustainable operation of nuclear power programs.

The rising variability of production plants is one of the central challenges in industry, independent of the company size. Although, wireless communication has become an integral part of modern industrial systems with the introduction of the fifth generation (5G) of wireless technology, flexible and modular manufacturing systems have particular demands on the surrounding infrastructure. With the reliance on wireless communication comes an increased need for ensuring the safety and reliability of these networks, especially if existing wired connections are to be replaced. In this research paper the deployment of an industrial use case for time-critical communication with commercially available 5G hardware is presented. Therefor a test bed including 5G infrastructure and wireless connected production units using an industrial communication protocol is established. The capabilities as well as the challenges for ensuring the functional safe operation of 5G networks in industrial settings are outlined. Especially applications demanding low latencies combined with high reliability requirements are found to be not yet competitive to a wired setup without the comprehensive support from 5G network vendors and pre-commercial features of upcoming releases.

The current state of Direct Yaw Control literature has reached an advanced level, yielding compelling results in stabilizing vehicle behavior, and enhancing overall performance. However, conventional approaches exhibit limitations in addressing highly transient lateral dynamics, particularly during conditions of rapidly increasing vehicle sideslip angles, leading to poor controllability and reduced intuition for the driver. This paper introduces a novel extension to the established yaw rate tracking technique, integrating the trivial yaw rate feedback control with a less conventional model-based feedforward term, complemented by an innovative sideslip rate tracking loop. The primary objective of this term is to smoothen vehicle cornering response, effectively dampening oscillations in the vehicle's behavior without compromising time delays to driver inputs. The intended outcome is not only enhancing safety but also delivering a more intuitive and enjoyable driving experience. The effectiveness of the approach is demonstrated by the results obtained through detailed Driver-in-Motion (DiM) sessions.

In the context of Industry 4.0, the adoption of new technologies for process improvement purposes makes the environment more complex and sensitive. Process Mining (PM) is a technology that has been used to support these improvements. The same happens to Discrete Event Simulation (DES) that's mainly used to analyze scenarios for decision-making. Further, Multicriteria Decision-Making (MCDM) methods are techniques to guide the scenarios' choice, especially in such complex environments. By using a log database from a manufacturing process, this paper exemplifies the combination of these techniques (PM, simulation, and MCDM) in a small application to check their usefulness. Furthermore, it is based on a previous paper of Design Principles of Digital Twin (DP). This study is done by first reaching the process model using PM to feed simulation in Python to provide analysis of different scenarios. Finally, MCDM is used to check those scenarios and give an answer that best fits the current process' constraints.
