In this experiment, we aimed to determine the resolution and efficiency of a detection system consisting of a SiPM board and three types of scintillation crystals (CaF2, LYSO, and NE102A). Four different sources (Am-241, Ba-133, Cs-137, and Co-60) were studied. The resolution results varied across the different crystals and sources tested. For example, the resolution for CaF2 with Am-241 was 113.14% and with Cs-137 was 36.78%. LYSO showed resolutions ranging from 35.58% to 91.52% for different sources. The NE102A plastic scintillator crystal had a resolution of 37.5% with Am-241. Additionally, absolute efficiency calculations were performed for each source and crystal. For CaF2, the absolute efficiency for Am-241 and Cs-137 was 2.76E-03% and 2.15E-04% respectively. LYSO had absolute efficiency values of 0.104% and 0.013% for Am-241 and Cs-137 (662 keV) respectively. The NE102A plastic scintillator crystal had an absolute efficiency of 1.62E-03% with Am-241.

Selecting the optimal combination of vehicle models and paint colors is a complex task that involves multiple and sometimes conflicting criteria, such as application time, viscosity, failure rate, average paint consumption, and total application cost. In this study, we apply the Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) method to rank and evaluate the complexity of application in several combinations of vehicle models and paint colors. By using a real case study in the automotive industry, we demonstrated how TOPSIS can assist in identifying the vehicle model and paint color combination that presents the greatest challenge to the application process. Our findings indicated that the most complex combination is the vehicle 'Model A' with paint color 'Light Red'. This study contributes to the decision-making process for selecting combinations that present greater complexity in application, as well as highlights the importance of considering multiple criteriawhenmaking complex decisions in the automotive industry.

Sub-zero treatment (SZT) is a low-temperature treatment used to improve the mechanical properties of ferrous and non-ferrous alloys. Such treatment is gaining interest on an industrial scale due to the attainable privileges, such as longer service life, better mechanical properties, and enhanced wear resistance. This study investigates the effect of deep cryogenic treatment (DCT) on the mechanical properties, hardness, and surface finish of different soft steel grades. The DCT process, conducted in this investigation, utilized a low-cost setup to carry out an 8-h ramp from ambient temperature down to -190 degrees C at a slow cooling rate, followed by 24 h at-190 degrees C, and then ramped up to ambient temperature at a slow heating rate. Four different grades of steel were used in the current investigation: cast iron, 304SS, CD4MCu, and 17-4PH stainless steel. For all grades of steel, results show an improvement in the surface bearing area of cryo-treated 304SS and 17-4PH samples compared to non-treated conditions. Moreover, enhanced strength and hardness values were reported for certain steels after applying that DCT protocol.

This work aims at demonstrating the potential benefits of using a mineral waste from quarries as a filler of polypropylene (PP) products obtained by rotational molding. A polypropylene matrix was dry blended with the ignimbrite dust (mainly composed of silica and alumina) in ratios up to 30% weight, obtaining well consolidated parts in all cases. However, it can be observed that, as expected, the parts with higher loadings result in a higher number of defects due to the air release hindering. The viscosity of the obtained blends was determined by oscillatory rheometry, finding that the incorporation of up to 30% of the mineral dust is not significantly affecting the viscous behavior of the material. Furthermore, the low particle size of the filler allows for a good distribution inside the PP matrix, obtaining a homogeneous material with good dispersion. The increased amount of ignimbrite results in improved storage modulus, meaning that the filler, even in dust format, is able to stiffen the matrix at high loadings (over 20%). However, increased ratios of filler also result in a lower adhesion between the filler and the matrix and reduced homogeneity of the blend.

In addressing the urgent need for sustainable energy solutions given the environmental consequences of conventional electricity production and lack of economically viable technology to store excess energy from wind and solar, our research summarizes various technologies for hydrogen production and storage. As part of our experimental work, an alkaline membraneless electrolyzer was built. Membraneless electrolysis shows great potential in enabling relatively cost-effective hydrogen production comparedwith traditional electrolysis methods thus lowering the cost of green hydrogen for energy storage, offering a step towards a more sustainable and climate-resilient future.

This paper aims to bridge the gap between research into lean production, Zero Defect Manufacturing (ZDM) and Human Centered Manufacturing (HCM) to show a path towards what the European Union has defined as "Industry 5.0". The worker inclusive, sustainable, and digital future of industry. Inspired by the concept of "Jidoka", first developed by Sakichi Toyoda in the early 1920s as he worked to make loom operators work less strenuous, and the recent advances in Human Centered Manufacturing we present a research path towards a concept of Smart Collaboration, a novel approach to zero-defect and zero-waste manufacturing that aims to leverage the skills and ingenuity of people with Artificial Intelligence. To develop the concept we have carried out a Rapid Literature Review of human/machine collaboration in both the extant lean literature, as well as in Zero Defect Manufacturing and in Human Centered Manufacturing. Then we looked for thematic trends in the papers reviewed on approaching human/machine collaboration, and finally we draw from the findings a path towards a new concept of Smart Collaboration for zero-waste and zero-defect manufacturing. The results from the review show how human-machine collaboration is addressed from a multitude of subjects, such as materials and wearables, robotics and enabling technology. However, our results also show that researchers are yet to consider the human rationality in human-machine collaboration, and we suggest that further work should be done to address this.

Accurately predicting the trajectories of other vehicles is crucial for autonomous driving to ensure driving safety and efficiency. Recently, deep learning techniques have been extensively employed for trajectory prediction, resulting in significant advancements in predictive accuracy. However, existing studies often fail to explicitly distinguish the impact of historical inputs at different time steps and the influence of surrounding vehicles at distinct locations. Moreover, deep learning-based approaches generally lack model interpretation. To overcome the issues, we propose the Spatial-Temporal Attention Guided Social GAN (STS-GAN). In the generator, we proposed a spatial-temporal attention mechanism to guide the utilization of trajectory features and interaction of the target vehicle with its surrounding vehicles. The spatial attention mechanism evaluates the importance of surrounding vehicles for predictions of the target vehicle, while the temporal attention mechanism learns the significance of historical trajectory information at different historical time steps, thereby enhancing the model interpretation. A convolutional social pooling module is employed to capture interaction features from surrounding vehicles, which are subsequently fused with the attributes of the target vehicle. Experimental results demonstrate that our model achieves competitive performance compared with state-of-the-art methods on publicly available datasets.

For environmental causes, bio-composites are gradually increasing. The main difficulty with these materials is their resistance to moisture absorption which limits their longevity. This study investigated the behavior of High Density Polyethylene /Olive Stone Flour (HDPE/OSF) bio-composites immersed in distilled water and sea water at three different temperatures then compared to neat HDPE. The absorption rate was increased for the charged composites compared to the neat material. Nevertheless, the rigidity of the aged composites remains slightly higher than the aged neat HDPE.

The large temperature variation inside the building in summer affects negatively the indoor thermal comfort which causes a high energy consumption. Latent heat storage is one of the most efficient methods to save energy in buildings. In this study, the effect of the location of a dual PCM layer on the thermal response of a building envelope is analyzed under the climatic conditions of the southern Mediterranean. A 24-h simulation is carried out for three locations of the dual PCM integrated into a typical multi-layered building envelope used in Algeria: the inner side, the outer side, and both sides. The numerical model employs the finite volume method to solve the unsteady 2D heat conduction equation based on the enthalpy method. The results convincingly demonstrate that coating the inner surface with a dual PCM of (22 degrees C and 24 degrees C) embedded in plaster reveals the best energy reduction with a decay rate of over 160% compared to the case without PCM.

Automated production of micro-fluidic devices (bio-MEMS) is performed in a dedicated manufacturing cell, comprising six precision manufacturing workstations and a handling system. The desired flexibility of the manufacturing cell is highly dependent on the handling system, whose design and implementation are reported on in this paper. This comprises specially designed part carriers that are hosted on a spigot both at each workstation and in a central storage cabinet, an industrial robot that loads and unloads the carriers by means of a custom designed gripper and a central controller commanding the movements and transfers in a single part or batch mode. Besides accuracy and reliability of the handling system, special emphasis in designing it, is given to safety.
