For environmental causes, bio-composites are gradually increasing. The main difficulty with these materials is their resistance to moisture absorption which limits their longevity. This study investigated the behavior of High Density Polyethylene /Olive Stone Flour (HDPE/OSF) bio-composites immersed in distilled water and sea water at three different temperatures then compared to neat HDPE. The absorption rate was increased for the charged composites compared to the neat material. Nevertheless, the rigidity of the aged composites remains slightly higher than the aged neat HDPE.

Accurately predicting the trajectories of other vehicles is crucial for autonomous driving to ensure driving safety and efficiency. Recently, deep learning techniques have been extensively employed for trajectory prediction, resulting in significant advancements in predictive accuracy. However, existing studies often fail to explicitly distinguish the impact of historical inputs at different time steps and the influence of surrounding vehicles at distinct locations. Moreover, deep learning-based approaches generally lack model interpretation. To overcome the issues, we propose the Spatial-Temporal Attention Guided Social GAN (STS-GAN). In the generator, we proposed a spatial-temporal attention mechanism to guide the utilization of trajectory features and interaction of the target vehicle with its surrounding vehicles. The spatial attention mechanism evaluates the importance of surrounding vehicles for predictions of the target vehicle, while the temporal attention mechanism learns the significance of historical trajectory information at different historical time steps, thereby enhancing the model interpretation. A convolutional social pooling module is employed to capture interaction features from surrounding vehicles, which are subsequently fused with the attributes of the target vehicle. Experimental results demonstrate that our model achieves competitive performance compared with state-of-the-art methods on publicly available datasets.

The large temperature variation inside the building in summer affects negatively the indoor thermal comfort which causes a high energy consumption. Latent heat storage is one of the most efficient methods to save energy in buildings. In this study, the effect of the location of a dual PCM layer on the thermal response of a building envelope is analyzed under the climatic conditions of the southern Mediterranean. A 24-h simulation is carried out for three locations of the dual PCM integrated into a typical multi-layered building envelope used in Algeria: the inner side, the outer side, and both sides. The numerical model employs the finite volume method to solve the unsteady 2D heat conduction equation based on the enthalpy method. The results convincingly demonstrate that coating the inner surface with a dual PCM of (22 degrees C and 24 degrees C) embedded in plaster reveals the best energy reduction with a decay rate of over 160% compared to the case without PCM.

This work presents an innovative framework for enhancing human-robot collaboration in industrial settings through Behavior Tree-based Robot Task Execution (BTE) and advanced task planning. The BTE framework orchestrates robot skills in assembly scenarios, ensuring smooth task execution and workflow synchronization. Concurrently, the task planning system integrates diverse sensing channels-such as voice, force feedback, and graphical user interfaces-to accurately discern human intentions for collaborative tool handovers. A significant novelty of our approach is its emphasis on human-centric factors, including ergonomics and user preferences, to optimize tool handover position and timing. By synergizing task planning, execution, and redundant sensing, our framework enables seamless human robot collaboration. The key contributions include a structured BTE framework for robot task execution and advanced task planning, integrating redundant sensing for intuitive collaboration. Real-world experiments in car door assembly validate the practicality and adaptability of our approach, emphasizing efficiency and adaptability in human-robot collaboration.

Electroplated hard metal coatings are sought after for their anti-wear properties and cost-effective deposition process. However, traditional choices like hard chrome and tungsten present challenges in terms of fabrication and environmental concerns. To address this, we explored the electroplating process under a binary sulfamate system to produce a hard Ni-Co alloy coating on metal surfaces. Our findings revealed that the electroplating current density predominantly influenced the hardness of the Ni-Co alloy, with higher current densities resulting in lower Co concentrations. Surprisingly, the composition of the alloy remained consistent regardless of the current density and showed little sensitivity to the Co2+ concentration. The highest hardness value of 608.1 HV0.05, with a Co concentration of 34%, was achieved at a current density of 3 ASD. These results highlight the potential of electroplated Ni-Co alloy coatings as alternatives to traditional options, offering controlled hardness properties and stable compositions. Further research is needed to assess their mechanical properties and applicability in various industries.

This study presents a computational fluid dynamics model investigation of the air-water multiphase flow in elbows, which can be commonly found in many practical applications. The computational model was developed in ANSYS Fluent. The Eulerian-Eulerian approach was used in modelling, which employs individual equations for each phase. Air is injected at a 30 l/min airflow rate to water through nozzles at 16 points placed at equal angles in the circumferential direction. The water flow rate is determined as 180 l/min at the inlet. The test section consists of a complete U-bend system, which is a combination of two horizontal to vertical (upward and downward) and one vertical 180-degree elbow. Our study not only provides a detailed presentation of the numerical modelling methods developed for this complex geometry elbow but also discusses the results obtained from the model. The results are presented for each phase regarding local void fraction and phase velocities. In addition to numerical studies, experimental works were carried out for validation. Computational results were compared with the experimental acquisitions, and the results were in good agreement. It is observed that the Eulerian approach gives reasonable results to predict the flow characteristics of air-water flow in elbows.

This article develops an architecture for the implementation of Artificial Intelligence in the manufacturing value chain based on standard technologies and data spaces. The standards considered are IEC 63278 "Asset Administration Shell (AAS) for industrial applications" and DIN SPEC 27070:2020 - "Requirements and reference architecture of a security gateway for the exchange of industry data and services" by IDSA. The architecture provides a data space that allows MONDRAGON industrial cooperatives to use data for the execution of advanced data analytics, Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms and interoperability between assets and IoT-platforms. The development of knowledge in this field allows, on the one hand, to optimise the consolidation of data as a strategic factor and, on the other hand, to increase collaboration between manufacturing companies, suppliers and technology providers. The article also explores specific Artificial Intelligence technologies with a wide application in industrial environments. In particular, the study has focused on research into Low/No Code, Explainability (XAI) tools and incremental learning algorithms. The contributions of this paper are summarised in 1) creating an IDS-AAS based architecture and data space that allows the exploitation of AI use cases, either by directly downloading models or by using AI as a service, 2) identifying useful AI tools for industry such as AutoML, No/Low code, XAI or incremental learning, 3) implementing a use case where different AI use alternatives are implemented.

In this experiment, we aimed to determine the resolution and efficiency of a detection system consisting of a SiPM board and three types of scintillation crystals (CaF2, LYSO, and NE102A). Four different sources (Am-241, Ba-133, Cs-137, and Co-60) were studied. The resolution results varied across the different crystals and sources tested. For example, the resolution for CaF2 with Am-241 was 113.14% and with Cs-137 was 36.78%. LYSO showed resolutions ranging from 35.58% to 91.52% for different sources. The NE102A plastic scintillator crystal had a resolution of 37.5% with Am-241. Additionally, absolute efficiency calculations were performed for each source and crystal. For CaF2, the absolute efficiency for Am-241 and Cs-137 was 2.76E-03% and 2.15E-04% respectively. LYSO had absolute efficiency values of 0.104% and 0.013% for Am-241 and Cs-137 (662 keV) respectively. The NE102A plastic scintillator crystal had an absolute efficiency of 1.62E-03% with Am-241.

Natural fibers, when used as reinforcement, offer a wide range of attractive characteristics and provide an alternative solution for waste materials. To investigate the performance of natural fiber-reinforced composites in outdoor applications, it is essential to analyze their environmental degradation properties, particularly under UV conditions. In this study, biocomposites based on date palm fibers were fabricated using the injection molding process. An enzymatic hydrolysis process, employing a synergistic activities effect of xylanase and pectinase enzymes, was applied to treat date palm fibers and compare the resulting composites. Tensile testing and SEM analysis were served for this evaluation. Additionally, the impact of accelerated UV environmental aging on the mechanical properties of all the fabricated composites was assessed. The results obtained revealed that UV aging caused a certain reduction in the tensile properties of composites loaded with raw fibers. This reduction was attributed to weak interfacial bonding, as evidenced by SEM images, which may have been further degraded after artificial aging. In contrast, composites filled with treated fibers exhibited improved preservation of their tensile properties, suggesting a more robust interfacial interaction between the treated fibers and the matrix material.

This paper investigates potential of energy efficiency improvement for electric vehicle (EV) equipped with unequal front/rear-axle e-motors and disconnect clutches under straight-line driving conditions. First, a static optimization of front/rear torque distribution is performed for various driving cycles, which provides insights into energy efficiency gains and optimal powertrain operation including optimal torque switching curve for two- and four-wheel drive modes. Disconnect clutches enable inactive motors to be switched off when operating in the 2WD mode to avoid their drag losses. A dynamic programming (DP)-based optimization of torque vectoring control trajectories is carried out to find the globally optimal energy saving potential. For clutch durability reasons, the number of clutch state changes is minimized along with energy consumption. Finally, a rule-based (RB) control strategy is proposed and verified against the DP Pareto optimal frontier benchmark for different certification driving cycles.
