Distributed stochastic gradient descent techniques have gained significant attention in recent years as a prevalent approach for reinforcement learning. Current distributed learning predominantly employs synchronous or asynchronous training strategies. While the asynchronous scheme avoids idle computing resources present in synchronous methods, it grapples with the stale gradient issue. This paper introduces a novel gradient correction algorithm aimed at alleviating the stale gradient problem. By leveraging second-order information within the worker node and incorporating current parameters from both the worker and server nodes, the gradient correction algorithm yields a refined gradient closer to the desired value. Initially, we outline the challenges associated with asynchronous update schemes and derive a gradient correction algorithm employing local second-order approximations. Subsequently, we propose an asynchronous training scheme incorporating gradient correction within the generalized policy iteration framework. Lastly, in the context of trajectory tracking tasks, we compare the impact of employing gradient correction versus its absence in an asynchronous update scheme. Simulation results underscore the superiority of our proposed training scheme, demonstrating notably faster convergence and higher policy performance compared to the existing asynchronous update methods.

The increased use of lead-free solder and miniaturization in surface mount technology present challenges in achieving accurate assembly alignment. In modern electronics manufacturing, self-alignment is crucial for improving assembly quality by aligning misaligned components. Previous research explored self-alignment using physics-based models or machine learning approaches. However, these methods require significant computational costs or extensive datasets. To address this, the study introduces a hybrid model that integrates data from inspection machines and features representing component displacement caused by self-alignment, derived from a physics-based model utilizing surface tension energy, Young's equation, and a simplified solder fillet profile. The proposed model is compared with other machine learning algorithms to demonstrate its effectiveness in predicting component locations. Side overhang and end overlap metrics are employed to evaluate its performance in assembly quality. The study aims to optimize the mounting process and enhance assembly quality by leveraging the accurate predictive capabilities of the model.

Micro-pressure waves (MPWs) associated with high-speed railways can cause serious environmental problems. The magnitude of the MPWs is proportional to the pressure gradient of the compression wave at the tunnel exit. A compression wave is generated when a train enters a tunnel, and it propagates towards the exit. For a long slab track tunnel, the pressure gradient of the generated compression wave increases during propagation owing to nonlinear effects. The nonlinear effects primarily depend on the pressure gradient of the compression wave at the entrance. Therefore, tunnel hoods are installed in long slab track tunnels in Japan to reduce the pressure gradient. Recently, a rapid numerical method has been developed to calculate the generation and propagation of compression waves based on the nonlinear acoustic theory, which enables optimization of the window pattern of the hoods by considering the propagation of the compression wave for long tunnels. In this study, the window patterns for short and long slab track tunnels were optimized, and the optimum window patterns (OWPs) are shown to be dependent on the tunnel length.

In this work a two-arm robot synthesis is of scope. A set of parameters have been considered in the mechanism's synthesis, mainly the links lengths and masses. A set of target trajectories have been set for the two links' extremity to be fulfilled. For the sake of enhanced accuracy, the system's trajectories feeding back the optimization process have been obtained by means of the system's equation of motion. Therefore, the effects of changes in mass can be taken into account in sharp contrast with what is done in kinematic synthesis. To this end, metaheuristic optimization mainly, Genetic Algorithm, Particle Swarm Optimization, Differential Evolution, Artificial Bee Colony, Ant Colony, Simulating Annealing and Imperialist Competitive Algorithm techniques have been implemented to investigate their performance solving similar problems. It has been proven that some of the techniques are more burdened to reach out an accurate solution than others. The implemented optimization approach efficiency has been confirmed through numerical simulation.

In the era of the circular economy (CE), more and more attention is paid to some production strategies such as Remanufacturing. This strategy aims to promote the creation of new lives for products considered at the end of their life and, therefore, reduce the industrial impact on the sustainability matrixes. Remanufacturing has grown in importance and relevance in the last few years, especially at an industrial glance, as evidenced by the birth of numerous divisions of primary Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) addressing remanufacturing. In this context, problems related to the practical consequences of the decisions related to the remanufacturing processes are relevant for the industrial decision-makers. Thus, the development of tools supporting the decision-makers in the remanufacturing field has increased in the last few years. This paper contributes to the identification and selection of the most suitable decision-making methods for several specific issues of Remanufacturing. To achieve this aim, a systematic review of the international scientific literature is conducted, providing practical insights for practitioners and proposing potential directions for further research development to enhance this knowledge domain.

Statistical descriptions of the extreme met-ocean conditions are essential for the safe and reliable design and operation of structures in the marine environment. The significant wave height is one of the most important wave parameters for coastal and offshore structural design. The met-ocean parameters are mainly affected by climate change at both global and local scales. Design parameters, such as the design of significant wave height with a prescribed return period, are directly influenced by the existence of trends in the significant wave height. Therefore, this paper aims to detect and quantify the trends in significant wave height over the selected domain of the Northern Indian Ocean (i.e., Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal). From the findings of the study, it is observed that an increasing trend in significant wave height over most of the grid points is considered in this study. Further, the trend values for most of the grids are statistically significant at a 95% confidence level.

The industry worldwide is undergoing continual changes owing to the emergence of new technologies and the globalization. Industry 4.0 is transforming the way things are done at the industrial level, and combined with the advancements in communication networks and the internet, it enables complete digitization of manufacturing processes. Nevertheless, the lack of appropriate management procedures and methodologies is hindering the implementation of digitization solutions, making it difficult to simplify requirements analysis and the incorporation of improvements using I4.0. Based on a literature review, the most crucial characteristics of migration projects have been identified, which are based on the I4.0 enablers. Currently, any technological system migration requires the use of an appropriate management methodology, which either replaces or complements the conventional. In this research proposes a new agile concurrent methodological procedure that relies on concurrent engineering and adapted Scrum to execute technology migration projects based on I4.0 enablers. It will be easy to applied in three level of management, and giving a faster and more efficient technology migration. Other benefits are a short periodic feedback for error correction, cross-functional teams, and simple implementation.

In this study, we conduct an analysis of the longitudinal dynamics of a vehicle model in an incline, with a specific focus on its behavior, at low speeds, when starting and stopping. The model is minimal, yet an effective representation of a vehicle that includes the effects of springs and dampers as well as friction and electric braking models, which allows for easy analysis into their interplay at low speed. One important feature that this early study shows is how the acceleration and jerk is affected by static and dynamic friction coefficients in different driving situations. Our study further demonstrates the interplay between the electric and friction braking systems and the differences in oscillatory motion they generate. Such insights are vital if we want to improve vehicle control at low speeds and suggest ways to reduce problems like excessive acceleration and jerk. Additionally, our findings could also provide valuable insights when developing active friction braking systems.

This paper investigates real-time optimal control for an automated vehicle. The model predictive control that generates the optimal trajectories has found wide applications in recent years due to increased computational performance. Numerical simulations of the full-vehicle model investigate the applicability of a path generator embedded model predictive control for the vehicle in the general shape road. The path generator is constructed by deep learning using the multiple open-loop optimal control problem solutions as the training dataset. Results demonstrate that the sequentially calculating optimal control command has the potential for real-time optimal control in the presence of the obstacle.

In recent years, a circular economy model has been established to promote sustainability. The model supports a service-oriented approach where leasing-based strategies can be applied to part and component use (multiple use) and recovery and rearrangement. Product leasing can recreate value in each cycle for both the lessor (i.e., remanufacturer) and the lessee (i.e., consumer). Nevertheless, there is not a clear vision/perspective about the effectiveness in sustainability of a leasing-based model in terms of a product's environmental impact. Furthermore, the benefits generated by the leasing contract should be balanced between the involved agents. In this work, the authors introduce the concept of remanu-leasing, proposed as the optimal configuration of a leasing contract aimed at balancing and maximising lessor and lessee interests while minimising the product's environmental impact.
