The industry worldwide is undergoing continual changes owing to the emergence of new technologies and the globalization. Industry 4.0 is transforming the way things are done at the industrial level, and combined with the advancements in communication networks and the internet, it enables complete digitization of manufacturing processes. Nevertheless, the lack of appropriate management procedures and methodologies is hindering the implementation of digitization solutions, making it difficult to simplify requirements analysis and the incorporation of improvements using I4.0. Based on a literature review, the most crucial characteristics of migration projects have been identified, which are based on the I4.0 enablers. Currently, any technological system migration requires the use of an appropriate management methodology, which either replaces or complements the conventional. In this research proposes a new agile concurrent methodological procedure that relies on concurrent engineering and adapted Scrum to execute technology migration projects based on I4.0 enablers. It will be easy to applied in three level of management, and giving a faster and more efficient technology migration. Other benefits are a short periodic feedback for error correction, cross-functional teams, and simple implementation.

Statistical descriptions of the extreme met-ocean conditions are essential for the safe and reliable design and operation of structures in the marine environment. The significant wave height is one of the most important wave parameters for coastal and offshore structural design. The met-ocean parameters are mainly affected by climate change at both global and local scales. Design parameters, such as the design of significant wave height with a prescribed return period, are directly influenced by the existence of trends in the significant wave height. Therefore, this paper aims to detect and quantify the trends in significant wave height over the selected domain of the Northern Indian Ocean (i.e., Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal). From the findings of the study, it is observed that an increasing trend in significant wave height over most of the grid points is considered in this study. Further, the trend values for most of the grids are statistically significant at a 95% confidence level.

The escalating atmospheric CO2 levels, which has been driving global warming, highlights the necessity to develop efficient CO2 capture technology, such as solid-based sorbents. Understanding the CO2 adsorption mechanism in these sorbents is important for their optimization, which, however, current semi-empirical models are not able to comprehensively demonstrate. In this paper, a diffusion-reaction model is proposed to elucidate the CO2 adsorption of a core-shell structured hydrogel sorbent. As the sorbent comprises a polyethylenimine hydrogel particle encapsulated by a silica shell, the model is developed by considering both physical diffusion and CO2-amine chemical reactions. As a result, the model describes the CO2 adsorption capacities of experimentally fabricated particles across diverse adsorption temperatures. Moreover, it unveils the CO2 adsorption process within the particle by displaying the evolution of amine-CO2 reaction rates, CO2 distribution, and amine consumption profiles. Notably, the model shows that the hydrogel core contributes to the primary diffusion resistance, a contrast to the less resistant silica shell. Overall, our diffusion-reaction model illuminates a fresh perspective on interpreting the CO2 adsorption mechanism of amine-based solid sorbents, from which insights can be gained for optimizing sorbent production in pursuit of carbon capture applications.

Synthetic data generation to enable industrial visual AI applications is a promising alternative to manual data acquisition. Such methods rely on the availability of 3D models to generate virtual worlds and derive or render 2D image data. Since CAD models can be created on different detail levels but require extensive effort, questions arise about which affect different detail levels of 3D models have on synthetic data generation. The effect of different CAD model details is investigated and compared to different 3D scanning and photogrammetry approaches. Different synthetic datasets are created for each 3D model acquisition type and a test-benchmark set is used to evaluate the performance of each dataset. Based on the results, the suitability of each acquisition method is derived and the effects of bridging the domain gap from the synthetic training domain to the real-world application domain are discussed. The findings indicate that 3D scans are as feasible for synthetic data generation as feature-rich high-level CAD data. Feature poor CAD data as they might originate from manufacturing data performs significantly worse.

Diabetes, a chronic condition affecting millions of people, requires ongoing medical care and treatment, which can place a significant financial burden on society, directly and indirectly. In this paper we propose a vision-robotics system for the automatic assessment of the diabetic foot, one the exams used for the disease management. We present and discuss various computer vision techniques that can support the core operation of the system. U-Net and Segnet, two popular convolutional network architectures for image segmentation are applied in the current case. Hardcoded and machine learning pipelines are explained and compared using different metrics and scenarios. The obtained results show the advantages of the machine learning approach but also point to the importance of hard coded rules, especially when well know areas, such as the human foot, are the systems' target. Overall, the system achieved very good results, paving the way to a fully automated clinical system.

Coastal erosion is a universal issue and it is primarily due to natural processes and sometimes by anthropogenic activities. Protection of the coast and shore can be accomplished in different ways. Seawall is one of the primary coastal structures to resist the impact of extreme wave events. The structural instability due to sediment transport and scouring is a major problem with rectangular shaped vertical seawall structures since they are least effective in dissipating wave energy and hence turbulence created due to the incoming and overtopping waves induce scouring. Vertical seawalls reflect wave energy seawards but they are the least effective in dissipating wave energy. But the performance of curved seawall is better compared to vertical seawalls from both stability and overtopping point of view. This study examines the scouring near vertical and curved seawalls during extreme wave events. Numerical simulations for finding the scouring near three different seawall geometries (vertical, CPS and FSS) are carried out in REEF3D and it is found that the scouring near FSS type seawall is less compared to other geometries.

This is a preliminary investigation of safety characteristics of the Stable Salt Reactor (SSR), which is a fast-spectrum molten salt reactor proposed by Moltex Energy. The reference Moltex fuel composition and other publicly released information have been utilized in this work. Regarding the liquid salt fuel, two more TRU (transuranics) compositions are also considered for improved core performances. Since the SSR concept adopts an on-power refueling scheme, a pseudo-equilibrium state was envisioned based on the linear reactivity model. It was found that reactivity change induced by withdrawal or insertion of fuel assembly could exceed 2 $, which insinuates possible safety or operational issues pertaining to the on-power refueling scheme that has not yet been thoroughly investigated. This work finds that the coolant temperature coefficient (CTC) is clearly positive similar to 2 pcm/K, the Doppler effect of the fuel salt is similar to-0.5 pcm/K and its temperature-dependent expansion coefficient is about -10 pcm/K, leading to fuel temperature coefficient (FTC) of the SSR to be around -10.5 pcm/K. Through point kinetic analyses coupled with a simplified lumped heat balance model, the transient behavior of the SSR system was estimated based on the evaluated temperature coefficients of the reactivity. Although the change in the reactivity is expected to be significant, the feasibility of on-power refueling strategy for the SSR has been found. All of the neutronic calculations were performed using the SERPENT 2 Monte Carlo code with nuclear data library ENDF/B-VII.1.

Digital transformation is having an increasing impact on industries. Previous studies have explored how enterprises implement digital transformation using technology. The perspective on organizational management continues to evolve. Small and medium-sized enterprises often face resource constraints and the dynamic ability to integrate resources is important for enterprises to implement digital transformation. This study uses case study on Taiwan's textile industry and propose the important dynamic capabilities of launching digital transformation strategies. The results suggest that collaborating with external knowledge experts and leveraging employees' knowledge and experience in digital transformation are crucial for promoting innovation and transformation. This study provides useful managerial implications for small and medium-sized enterprises seeking to launch digital transformation initiatives.

The importance of the economy being up to date with the latest developments, such as Industry 4.0, is more evident than ever before. Successful implementation of Industry 4.0 principles requires close cooperation of industry and state authorities with universities. A paradigm of such cooperation is described in this paper stemming from university partners with partly overlapping and partly complementary areas of expertise inmanufacturing. Specific areas that are targeted include Additive Manufacturing, cloud computing and control, Virtual Reality, Digital Twins, and Artificial Intelligence. The manufacturing system domains that are served pertaining to process planning and optimization, process and system monitoring, and innovative / precision manufacturing. The described collaborative research and training framework involves a combination of pertinent targeted individual exploratory innovation projects as well as a synthetic multifaceted common research project. Based on these, the research and innovation project knowledge will be transferred to the industry by building a Cluster of Excellence, i.e., a network consisting of academic and industrial stakeholders.

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) in passenger cars, such as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), have recently been widely deployed. However, these systems are not designed for high-risk situations, yet some drivers over trust the system and engage in secondary tasks. These behaviours may lead to serious accidents. On the other hand, it has been reported that the use of ACC reduced approximately half of the collision rate on highways based on public road data. This study aims to clarify the mechanism how ADAS affects driver behaviour and enhances accident prevention performance. Specifically, the focus is on the forward collision risk and the driver's brake operating behaviour. Through the analysis using a driving simulator, this study compared driver behaviour in high collision risk situations in the case with and withoutACC. The analysis of subject drivers' internal parameters confirmed the driver behaviour that avoided a collision by using ADAS to take over control and brake earlier.
