The issue of improving the performance of aircraft is constantly attracting the attention of researchers, and research teams and large scientific institutions are working on their solutions. This is an urgent problem of our time. This scientific article discusses possible ways to solve this scientific and applied problem by improving the performance of aircraft engine parts by applying heat-resistant protective coatings. Such coatings are proposed to be used based on ZrO2 with an appropriate amount of Ni (in this study, 10 and 30% Ni were added to the base coating to stabilize and improve plasticity, respectively) and CaO. The coatings were applied to the base material by plasma sputtering on the working surfaces of the parts. These so-called plasma zirconium coatings can be applied to parts of various shapes and materials. As part of our study, these coatings were applied to 100Cr6 steel and tested for heat resistance, preventing working surface oxidation and scale formation (scale resistance). The tests were carried out at 1000 degrees C, 1100 degrees C, and 1200 degrees C. The scientific results obtained will facilitate the selection of heat-resistant materials for the relevant parts using the import substitution principle, if necessary. They will allow controlling the gaps of joined parts within acceptable limits, knowing the changes in size and weight due to the formation of oxides.

The advent of Federated Learning (FL) has brought about a revolutionary change in the field of machine learning, enabling the decentralised training of models across a multitude of devices while simultaneously maintaining the confidentiality of the data. In contrast to conventional centralized methodologies, FL maintains the localisation of data, with only model updates being shared. This methodology enhances model generalisation and stability without compromising data sovereignty. A variety of machine learning techniques, including support vector machines (SVMs) and decision trees, can be effectively utilised within the context of FL frameworks. SVMs offer efficient solutions for classification tasks with minimal computational overhead, while decision trees provide interpretable models for both classification and regression. This paper explores the application of these methods in FL settings, highlighting their advantages and potential use cases in diverse industries, particularly in manufacturing. Furthermore, it discusses the integration of reinforcement learning with FL, emphasising its potential for enhancing intelligent and adaptable decentralised systems.

Rotational energy is abundant in numerous industrial applications, spanning from miniature devices like watches to massive installations such as offshore wind turbines. As wireless sensing technology continues to evolve, there is a growing interest in developing self-sustaining energy sources for wireless sensors used in rotating systems. This research aims to expand the operational bandwidth of energy harvesters by integrating a dual-beam structure and nonlinear magnetic interactions to enhance low-frequency, high-efficiency energy harvesting during rotary motion. Both theoretical and experimental approaches are employed to assess the influence of nonlinear magnetic forces on the performance of the harvester in rotary environments. The study begins with the design of a nonlinear energy harvester featuring parallel-aligned double beams in rotational motion. This configuration is shown to be highly efficient, capable of effectively capturing energy across a broad frequency spectrum from 15 to 35 rad/s. To further improve low-frequency energy harvesting, the research extends to the modeling and analysis of a vertically arranged nonlinear energy harvester in rotational motion. The findings reveal that this vertical arrangement significantly boosts the harvester's efficiency at low frequencies, particularly within the range of 10-37 rad/s. Experimental investigations are conducted to corroborate the theoretical predictions, confirming that the designed energy harvester exhibits desirable characteristics for low-frequency broadband energy harvesting. These results underscore the potential of the proposed harvester designs to meet the energy requirements of wireless sensors in various rotating machinery applications, thereby advancing the field of self-powered sensor technology.

The prefabricated pile footing structures presented in this paper demonstrate that large (3' x2' x 1'), mostly hollowstructures are indeed manufacturable through industrial large scale polymer additive manufacturing (ILSPAM). Additionally, this work identifies manufacturing process defects which resulted from the production of such structures. Processing failures during manufacturing prompted the modification of process control parameters (layer height, material choice). This yielded four specimens, each with a unique treatment modification combination. This paper utilizes an experimental setup [1] for analyzing the effect of various processing treatments on large-scale additively manufactured thermoplastic structures. Specifically, it presents and compares the uniaxial compression results of layer height and material treatments on pile footings made with virgin and recycled glass fiber reinforced PETg (PETg-GF) using cyclic loading experiments. Force-displacement experiments were conducted to determine and compare the effects of such modifications on the uniaxial compression performance of the different specimens. The authors note that the data supports the hypothesis that increasing layer height will decrease the stiffness of additively manufactured structures. Furthermore, the cyclic uniaxial compression experiments conducted on the pile footings validate the applicability of the related experimental setup for multiple large-scale additively manufactured structural products. Finally, the authors recommend further experiments and analysis to determine the effect of material choice, as well as experiments with smaller specimens to address the limitations of measuring large-scale structures.

Work-related musculoskeletal disorders are a pressing public health issue, affecting workers across diverse sectors. Among these, municipal waste collection stands out due to the inherent risks associated with the tasks performed by waste collectors. The adoption of door-to-door waste collection methods, aimed at improving waste sorting rates, has unveiled health and safety concerns related to frequent lifting of small containers from the ground to the truck container. This study delves into the ergonomic challenges encountered by waste collection operators during door-to-door waste collection, utilizing a sensor-based methodology to characterize and quantify these challenges objectively. This research represents one of the few attempts to employ motion capture systems in outdoor work settings to capture operators' movements, derive joint angles, and calculate ergonomic risk indices using methods like REBA and NIOSH. The findings provide valuable insights for devising strategies to mitigate risks. Key recommendations include restricting lifting activities to below shoulder height, elevating collection points, enhancing waste bag grip quality, and promoting adherence to ergonomic guidelines by operators. Moreover, optimizing efficiency and reducing ergonomic strain can be achieved by alternating between collection methods, such as using bins in high-density waste areas and bags elsewhere.

High Q-factor superconducting radio-frequency (SRF) cavities are extremely sensitive to mechanical vibrations, which can cause a shift in the electromagnetic resonance frequency, degrading the cavity performance. To avoid this phenomenon (i.e. microphonics) specifically designed vibration suppression systems are needed. In this paper, the numerical model of the Vertical Test Stand (VTS) insert adopted at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory was studied, in the framework of the experimental characterization of Dark SRF cavities conducted by the SQMS (Superconducting Quantum Materials and Systems) center. Vibration testing was performed on the actual system to validate and tune the model, and a good correlation between numerical and experimental results was found. Additionally, two different setups were compared, with and without implementing a preliminary passive vibration suppression system, to assess its effectiveness in reducing the microphonics phenomenon. The obtained results allowed for the design of an improved isolation system, which will be the subject of future experimental testing (FERMILAB-CONF-24-0134-SQMS-TD).

The paper discusses the results of experimental investigations into regenerative self-oscillations during longitudinal turning using the original design of a cutter-oscillator. This design allows the measurement of oscillations exclusively along the axis of force F-x, coinciding with the direction of the cut thickness variation during cutting along the vibration trace on the cutting surface. In this case, one of the primary sources of self-oscillations - coordinate coupling - is eliminated. It has been established that three-speed zones can be distinguished during longitudinal turning. In the first zone, characterized by low cutting speeds, growth formation is observed. In the second zone, as cutting speeds increase, regenerative self-oscillations are excited up to their maximum level, followed by a subsequent decrease. In the third zone of high speeds, degeneration of regenerative self-oscillations and the realization of vibration-free cutting conditions are observed. Various characteristics were determined during the experiments, including the static deflection of the cutter-oscillator from the position of initial equilibrium, amplitude, and frequency of self-oscillations, the phase shift of waves of neighboring revolutions, length of one wave, and the number of waves on the cutting surface. The research results indicate that the developers of the theory of regenerative self-oscillations and stability lobe diagrams did not consider the influence of a basic mechanism of chip formation, specifically the process of shifting the chip element under an angle. This omission necessitates additional experimental studies to refine the recommended stability lobe diagrams. This article aims to formulate and experimentally verify the general principal differences between dynamic cutting conditions and static ones and, based on this knowledge, investigate ways of increasing the resistance to vibration excitation for each type of machining.

Structural batteries (SBs) are multipurpose devices that can store energy while also supporting structural loads. The focus was on anticipating internal short circuits and their consequences caused by mechanical abuse while doing Multiphysics Simulations with the commercial solver LS-DYNA. The available numerical strategies are detailed, as are the results of experimental experiments. A typical abuse load scenario (executed using a hemi-spherical dart) on structural batteries is simulated, both with and without their incorporation in a composite laminate. The acquired findings are contrasted and analyzed, emphasizing the use of Multiphysics-based design tools in the creation of safer multifunctional structures.

The work aimed to study the patterns of cavitation-erosion destruction of steels and titanium alloys. Electrochemical measurements were carried out on an installation with a magnetostrictive vibrator using the technique of potentiostatic measurements. Polarization curves were recorded at a constant temperature of 296 K under static conditions and with the application of ultrasonic vibrations for steels and a group of titanium alloys. The research was carried out using sodium chloride solutions. Tests were also carried out in hard water to obtain comparative data. A new approach was proposed for assessing the cavitation-erosion resistance of various metals and alloys. It consists of analyzing polarization curves obtained under static conditions, applying ultrasonic vibrations, and comparing them with the results of corrosion tests. It was established that high corrosion resistance, in combination with the strength characteristics of titanium alloys, provides high cavitation resistance in sodium chloride solutions. During electrochemical studies, an increase in the speed of anodic processes under all modes of cavitation influence and a narrowing of the area of passivation of the studied materials were established. All the metals tested in NaCl solutions and hard water can be conditionally divided into three groups. For the manufacture of equipment parts prone to cavitationerosive wear in sodium chloride solutions, it is recommended to choose materials from the 3rd group and primarily titanium and its alloys.

Limited freshwater resources require a very careful attitude. This especially applies to their underground mining, carried out by constructing special wells. To a large extent, resource-saving in artesian drilling is achieved by increasing the accuracy of threaded connectors for drill pipes. The technology of manufacturing such threads is mainly carried out using turning operations. However, it would be more effective to use multi-point cutters rather than simple tools. The drill-string tapered thread model is obtained as a result of finishing one pass using four-thread comb turning. The study of the possibility of their application from the point of view of technological possibilities and especially the accuracy of the obtained thread is the object of research. The resulting calculated value of the longitudinal deviation does not exceed 0.012 mm, which is 10% of the tolerance. The conducted studies show the complete possibility of using turning multi-point cutting-tool for the manufacture of tool-joint threads, starting from their smallest nomenclature size.
