In this paper, a computational fluid dynamic investigation of twin circular orifice jets was conducted for an orifice-to-orifice distance of 3.75 mm and a Mach number of 0.8. The RANS-based turbulence models are evaluated based on examining the jet properties like streamwise velocity, rate of decay, jet half-width and rate of spread. The results show that the K-ω SST turbulence model was effective in predicting the mixing properties like potential core, decay rate, jet half-width and spread rate. Numerical data obtained from the Reynolds stress model and K-Ε turbulence models agree well with experimental data in the core region of the jet. In contrast, the transition and self-similar regions are better predicted by the shear stress transport K–ω turbulence model. Overall, the K-ω SST turbulence model was close in agreement with the experimental measurements in the near field and far field of the jet flow field. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd 2024.

The Ateneo Innovation Center designs and develops a modular approach to medical alarm and alert systems for mechanical ventilators that enable clinicians to remotely monitor patient conditions and ventilator circuit status in near real-time, providing decision support that allows for a better diagnosis. It monitors and tracks the alarm events related to the ventilator waveform consisting of pressure, flow, and volume curves by using automatic peak detection of the curves and real-time recognition of time-series waveforms. The developed system combines the threshold alarms with embedded Artificial Intelligence to automatically detect complex alarms that need medical expertise such as issue detection on asynchrony, anomalies, and mechanical. It also differentiates the critical types of alarms, assisting clinicians via alarm prioritization, and remote patient monitoring via a near cloud system. Storing data in the near cloud system as a medical database enables building a rich dataset for upgrading the predictive model of alarm recognition. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

The Archimedes screw turbine (AST) is a type of turbine that produces micro-hydro power that can operate at low heads. In this article, the performance of AST is experimentally investigated for the angle of an inclination. This study aims to analyze the effect of variations in the turbine screw shaft angle on the shaft rotation, output power, current, and voltage generated. The AST turbine’s lower inclination angle (25°) results in higher efficiency. The test results show that the optimum inclination angle is obtained at 35° for water discharge 0.011 m3/s delivering a torque of 2 N.m. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

In order to remove moisture from the air, sorbent is utilized. In most of industrial areas, such as food industry, drug and cold storage industries. Sorbent-based air cooling powered by solar energy is suggested. The solar power is used for heater of 1.5 KW power. It is investigated how solar energy is used to generate power and the effects of airflow rate and increases moisture removal rate (double sorbent wheel). The study’s anticipated findings will point to energy savings. To determine the eliminated moisture as a function of air flow rate at solar noon, an empirical equation is utilized. Additionally, an empirical calculation was employed to determine how well the wheels regenerate and absorb energy. For some applications, sorbent dehumidification systems’ capacity to dry the air to any desired humidity level is advantageous. The moisture removal rate is increased by this TSSD. This technique is limited by the requirement for high-grade heat (about 180°F) to replenish the sorbent. The sorbent wheel’s design clearly reflects customer health, safety and hygiene (rotor). Depending on the project’s characteristics, techniques like sorbent dehumidification is used, depending on the particulars of the project. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Permanent magnet linear synchronous motors (PMLSM) are widely used in semiconductor processing, laser cutting, inspection and precision positioning because of high thrust density, high power density, high acceleration, fast response, good reliability and high precision. The torque of the PMLSM is proportional to the input current, that is, to output large electromagnetic thrust, the PMLSM needs a large input current. The large current will cause large losses, mainly copper loss in the winding, which will eventually heat up the winding and other parts and cause temperature rise. High temperature rise will reduce the motor’s insulation life or even destroy the insulation, which will reduce the performance of the motor or cause the motor failure. Thus, by studying and analyzing the temperature rise of PMLSM, it is beneficial to achieve rational design or motor operating condition prediction. In this paper, finite element modeling analysis of the three-dimensional temperature field of the motor is conducted based on a linear motor test rig, which includes a linear motor, a sliding table, a linear bearing, a linear module base and a marble platform. The finite element analysis results are compared with the experiment results and they are consistent. Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is one of the most successful ways of treating pain and functional limitations due to osteoarthritis. Asians and Middle Easterners need a large range of flexi angles for religious, social, and cultural activities. Prayer activities and seiza required flexible angle from 150° to 165°. To support these activities, a TKA high flexion (high-flex) type is required. The application of high-flex TKA causes a difference between extension gap and flexion gap, called gap difference. Gap difference is strongly influenced by posterior tibial slope (PTS) and single radius system, and it causes TKA instability. This study aims to analyze the stability of AKJ with GD measurement on a single radius system with a computer-aided design (CAD) approach to prayer, social, and cultural activities for Asians, especially in Indonesia. This study uses the CAD approach with stages that are implant scanning, surface processing, curve processing, components improvement, and gap difference measurement. This study has successfully tested the stability of the model against the difference between gap extension and gap flexion. TKA model with a maximum of PTS 6° can be recommended for the purposes of Asian activities, especially Indonesians in religious, social, and cultural activities. The increased public awareness, strict government regulations, and fast-paced technological advancements have made green supply chain research a crucial aspect of sustainability. To stay competitive in the global market, industries are adopting Industry 4.0 (I4.0) technologies. However, not many studies have explored the integration of I4.0 and Blockchain (BC) in the development of Green Supply Chain (GSC) and the emerging research themes in recent years. This study aims to fill that gap by identifying the research themes. Current study uses citation analysis to assess the most influential authors, journals, and countries, while keyword co-occurrence analysis is used to analyze the thematic evolution and popular topics in the green supply chain. The study provides a comprehensive and clear overview of the research themes that have emerged in the green supply chain from 2017 to February 11, 2023. The primary objective of the study is to conduct an in-depth bibliometric analysis of how Industry 4.0 and Blockchain technologies can enhance the green supply chain. The study highlights the potential of blockchain tools in solving issues related to the green supply chain. This study can benefit a wide range of stakeholders, including researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and organizations in the field of sustainability, green supply chain, Industry 4.0, and blockchain technology. The main idea of this article is to provide further knowledge related to the application of pure biodiesel in a custom power generator. Previous research has shown preliminary results regarding the potential of Pangium edule. Biodiesel as feedstock and has been tested to run a diesel engine with lower rotational speed. The biodiesel in this research has been prepared using a heterogeneous catalyst derived from a palm kernel shell impregnated with K2CO3. In this research, small alternator is driven by Yanmar TF65 R-DI multifunction diesel engine, which is easily assembled and has been utilized as a power generator to be evaluated. The engine was tested under various biodiesel blend with given load and connected to multiple instrument to record data required, i.e. engine speed (rpm), fuel flow (ml/sec), voltage (V), and current (A) readings. The data series then used to analyse the engine performances. The custom power generator has been designed to work at 5.5 kWh in prolonged operation time, suitable to supply typical household wattage in the region, ranging from 0.9 up to 3 kWh. The fuel mixtures containing 20% biodiesel, or B20, is still desirable to use in general multipurposes diesel engine. While B30 show similar potential but it does not show a similar performance as in higher rotational speed diesel power generator as demonstrated earlier. However, PE biodiesel still shows a promising performance as an alternative source of diesel engine fuel. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

This paper proposes the design and validation methodology for a sustainable water supply system using river energy, updating a historical mechanism. Among the strategies of the European Green Deal, applications are framed for the decontamination of the aquatic environment and the use of clean energies. Within these priorities, this work is based on the key characteristics of historical proposals, which, although they no longer respond to current needs, still serve as a reference to propose modern designs. In particular and based on the mechanism of Toledo (Spain) by Juanelo Turriano, a water supply design using electric water pumps is proposed. The necessary energy is directly obtained from the river, with the use of a turbine. To validate the proposed design, and verify the requirements, a model is developed using computational fluid mechanics tools. The results provide key variables specific simulations, thus establishing a scalable validation methodology for this sustainable design. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

The modern business environment is characterized by increasing pressure to enhance sustainability in supply chain (SC) operations. The implementation of Industry 4.0 (I4.0) technologies and the growing prominence of additive manufacturing (AM) has provided organizations with new opportunities to reduce waste and increase efficiency. Few studies explain the potential benefits of enhancing SC sustainability through I4.0 and AM technologies through bibliometric-based review. This bibliometric-based review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of research in the area of enhancing SC sustainability through I4.0 and additive manufacturing technologies. The review will explore the current literature, identify the most frequently cited authors, organizations, and journals, and discuss the key findings and recommendations for future research. The objective of this review is to provide valuable insights for organizations and researchers looking to understand the impact of I4.0 and additive manufacturing on SC sustainability. The study will examine the challenges and limitations of implementing these technologies in real-world supply chain operations and discuss the potential benefits and outcomes of such implementations.
