The article addressed the following issues: general principles of superconductivity conditions in braking pairs;E. Schrodinger equation and F. Bloch law;superconductivity of 1st and 2nd kind in braking pairs;and discussion of results. The first group includes so-called superconductors of 1st kind, cooling with surface positive energy (E-n > 0). The negative sign of surface energy (E-n < 0) characterizes the superconductors of the second group. The top layers of the working surface are induced by the action of friction forces (F-Ti) and pulsed regular forces (N-i), between which the Eq. (0,35 - 0,6) Ni = F-Ti;is correct;in this case, they interact with the crystal lattice. The lower layers, located on the non-operational side of the surface, experience the internal interaction between the paired Cooper electrons and the crystal lattice. Electrical, magnetic, and thermal gradients decrease magnitude from external to internal exposure. The presence of various types of contacts and their transformation associated with electrical resistance promotes superconductivity of the local character of 1st kind. A characteristic feature of electric current is the appearance of a vortex magnetic field.

Aeronautical structures, often, experience impacts with foreign objects in service and during maintenance operations. Foreign Objects Impacts (FOI) can lead to critical damages and can compromise the overall performances of structural components. Indeed, among the others, composite components can exhibit various interacting post impacts damage mechanisms, including fiber breakage, matrix fracture, and interlaminar damages, such as delamination between different layers of the laminates. Delamination represents the most critical failure mechanisms, as it is, often, undetectable by visual inspections and it may, unstably and silently, develop within the component. This Phenomenon may be amplified under cyclic loading conditions, as the residual strength and stiffness can decrease rapidly after a certain number of cycles, potentially leading to structural collapse [1]. Unstable propagation of delaminations is particularly critical, since it, actually, can take place without the need of increasing the load acting on the structure. This phenomenon, which is very dangerous for the structural integrity of components, can be very challenging to be predicted, under fatigue loading conditions, by the standard geometrically non-linear Finite Elements Methodologies (FEM) which use a sequence of simulations under force control to mimic the fatigue behaviour of composite materials. Actually, FEM simulations under controlled force levels lead to convergence issues when predicting the highly dynamic behaviour of the unstable growth of delaminations under fatigue loading conditions. The research activity, presented in this paper, is aimed to develop an alternative efficient methodology able to mimic the unstable delamination propagation under cyclic loading conditions in composite structures by non-linear static analyses. Despite the European Union's efforts to decrease workplace accidents, statistics show an increase in accidents in the last years. Therefore, training workers is crucial to prevent injuries. The thriving of new technologies, such as Immersive Virtual Reality, can offer innovative training methods in the industrial field. However, introducing innovative technologies to a user base with an increasing average age necessitates evaluating the impact on workers across various age groups. In this contribution, we developed an IVR system to train workers to learn procedures in industrial environments. We recruited 50 participants and divided them into three age groups: young (19-33 years), middle-aged (34-48 years), and older (49-63 years). Objective (execution errors and times) and subjective metrics (User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ), System Usability Scale (SUS), and Virtual Reality Sickness Questionnaire (VRSQ)) were collected. The results showed that the young group made more mistakes than the other two groups, but there were no statistically significant differences in execution times. The SUS score was statistically significantly higher for the young group than the others, the VRSQ did not show any significant increase. For the UEQ score, young participants rated IVR experience excellently, while others rated it slightly lower.

Manufacturing industries today are undergoing a formidable process of transition to completely new and sometimes unfamiliar modes of operation. This process is also known as the 5th Industrial Revolution and involves the implementation of a set of technologies including, among others, digital technologies such as XR-Extended Reality, AI, Big Data and Digital Twins. In particular, Extended Reality, which encompasses the full spectrum of advanced 3D models and techniques for visualizing and interacting environments, is already a standard de facto method at some stages of the product life cycle. In the design phase of complex systems, for example, it supports designers, other business functions and end users in the collaborative analysis of complex assemblies. While these technologies are supported as enablers for the aforementioned transition in industries, their use at the academic level remains focused on the goal of creating more interactive educational experiences and enhancing understanding of complex concepts. In contrast, this paper analyzes the use of XR in mechanical engineering curricula with the goal of identifying the main challenges for creating advanced digital skills for engineers and empowering them to integrate such knowledge into industrial process optimization. The results of a focus group with students in the Master of mechanical engineering program reveal the need to support young people in understanding the benefits of using such technologies in their work.

The article discusses the current problem of ensuring the reliability of technical systems, which is one of the important indicators of quality and competitiveness. The purpose of this article is to consider the problem of predicting the reliability of robotic machines with a parallel structure (parallel kinematics) at the initial stages of design. An important parametric characteristic of robotic machines is the positioning accuracy of the working element, its stability, and the preservation of values within specified limits over time. A methodology for predicting the parametric reliability of a robotic machine, which is designed according to a hexapod (Stewart platform) with electro-hydraulic control, is considered. The method of independent expert assessment or the method of rank correlation, which is based on statistical and heuristic processing of expert opinions, was used. Experts assigned each factor a corresponding rank, depending on the degree of its influence on the parametric reliability of the robotic machine. The arithmetic mean weight, the average relative weight, the standard deviation of the factors, and the coefficient of variation were calculated. Conclusions about the consistency of expert opinions are formulated based on the general set of characteristics and factors using the concordance coefficient (Kendall criterion). The considered methodology can be used to predict and assess the reliability of all types of robotic machines.

This work aims to explore efficient and accurate structural design methods for orthotropic plates. The design challenges are addressed by introducing a novel Continuum Sensitivity Analysis (CSA) technique capable of managing multiple design variables and constraints. CSA has demonstrated superior accuracy and efficiency compared to traditional numerical sensitivity analysis methods, particularly in shaping high-performance air vehicles, even with numerous design variables. This study extends CSA to orthotropic plates for the first time and establishes an efficient simulation framework for high-fidelity structural shape optimization. The CSA approach facilitates the calculation of shape derivatives with respect to multiple design variables at a minimal computational time. Furthermore, this method is non-intrusive and compatible with black-box programs like NASTRAN, providing more accurate high-fidelity sensitivities than those currently available from the software.

Inconel 718, one of the most employed nickel-based superalloys, proved to be efficiently processable through Wire-Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM), including Cold Metal Transfer Technology (CMT). Nevertheless, a multi-step heat treatment is still necessary to control the microstructure and the mechanical properties of this complex alloy. This work aimed to compare the effects on microstructure, tensile properties, Vickers microhardness and chemical composition of two heat treatments performed on Inconel 718 parts produced through CMT, namely: i) the heat treatment used for conventionally processed Inconel 718 parts, defined by the AMS5662 and AMS5663 standards;ii) a custom heat treatment that reduces the number of steps included in the previous case. The experiments were performed on prismatic CMT-produced parts, subsequently machined to extract the test specimens, considering both the aforementioned heat treatment conditions as well as the as-deposited material. The results suggested that comparable results were achieved for the selected heat treatments, however, a complete recrystallization of the fine grains never occurred for all the investigated conditions, thus retaining the typical microstructural anisotropy deriving from the CMT process. Moreover, the heat-treated parts showed, in any case, comparable properties to those of the conventionally cast alloy, opening a new scenario in the context of industrial production of semi-finished parts with huge costs and time savings.

Selecting the optimal combination of vehicle models and paint colors is a complex task that involves multiple and sometimes conflicting criteria, such as application time, viscosity, failure rate, average paint consumption, and total application cost. In this study, we apply the Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) method to rank and evaluate the complexity of application in several combinations of vehicle models and paint colors. By using a real case study in the automotive industry, we demonstrated how TOPSIS can assist in identifying the vehicle model and paint color combination that presents the greatest challenge to the application process. Our findings indicated that the most complex combination is the vehicle 'Model A' with paint color 'Light Red'. This study contributes to the decision-making process for selecting combinations that present greater complexity in application, as well as highlights the importance of considering multiple criteriawhenmaking complex decisions in the automotive industry.

For autonomous driving in urban areas higher accuracy requirements for localization of surrounding traffic participants become apparent. The use of cost-efficient camera sensors shows potential for a performant depth estimation and can supplement perception systems to achieve redundancy. Current research focuses on improving the algorithms towards better performance whereas the application-oriented analysis of present estimation errors in relation to urban traffic scenarios is often neglected. Based on stereo and mono camera images, a benchmark analysis of rule- and deep learning-based depth estimation approaches is conducted in this work. The error-prone estimation results are then analyzed against braking distances of urban traffic scenarios simulated by a two-track model to analyze the criticality of different depth estimation approaches. The application-oriented evaluation shows that current approaches could already be used in real automated driving systems and enable the definition of requirements.

The article is devoted to the superconductivity of friction pairs of brake devices, which is possessed by the entire body of the metal friction element and the surface layer of the polymer lining. In them, a special role is played by the so-called thread-like structures in the nodes of the crystal lattices of friction pair materials, which have a reasonably high conductivity due to their low electrical resistance. The use of one-dimensional, two-dimensional, and three-dimensional conductive polymers with different superconductivity efficiencies installed in polymer pads from its downward surface to the advancing one will make it possible to equalize the surface energy load on the arc of the pad's girth during electrothermal-mechanical friction. The external discreteness of the contacts of the microprotrusions of the brake friction pairs is characterized by internal discrete energy levels, which have an essential feature - they break up into groups representing zones of different widths with unequal mobility of electrons in them. Theoretical and experimental studies have determined that when microprotrusions of friction pairs vibrate, a Cooper pair of electrons breaks with the absorption of an electromagnetic field quantum (photon) and a sound quantum (phonon).
