The article discusses the creation of a 3D project for a disk tool magazine with an autooperator for a multi-operational drilling-milling-boring machine and the technological improvement of the worm drive for the tool magazine. Three-dimensional modeling of automatic tool change components in the Creo Parametric computer-aided design system using its new functionality is carried out. Solid-state models of the disk magazine housing parts, its drive, and the form-building spindle assembly, the construction of which ensures the coordination of the design part of the housing and its casting blank are presented. Special techniques to remove holes and roundings in the housing from the model in the multivariate design mode are used. A set of tool blocks is formed and mounted in the slots of the tool magazine using effective operations for constructing cones of auxiliary tool holders. The phenomena occurring in a worm drive gear when the disk magazine moves are investigated. The concept of a new technology for cutting a worm with a cutting head of a modified profile is analyzed. A mathematical apparatus on the basis of which an algorithm is implemented for calculating the geometric parameters of the cutting tool, ensuring the guaranteed absence of secondary cutting action on the worm is formed. An experimental calculation of the modified design of the gear cutting head was carried out and the minimum possible nominal diameter of the head containing cutters, the working surface of which is convex-concave and outlined by circular arcs, was calculated.

Radioisotopes are one of the essential cornerstones of modern medicine. They may be used for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Here we present a description of a compact high field superconducting magnet used for a 30 MeV cyclotron with a magnetic field 2 times higher than conventional H-cyclotrons developed recently. This magnet will be a modern, state of the art design, which, because of the higher magnetic field, smaller, lower maintenance, lighter weight and lower power consumption than any other magnet available. The purpose of this design to help cyclotron to provide a sustainable supply of the critical Imaging Isotope F-18 and N13, to eliminate the need for supply from other production facilities for small centers. This paper mainly focuses on the simulation results of the Magnet proposed for our project as the Magnet design is 60% of the overall TAAC30 cyclotron Design.

Since the beginning of nuclear industry, corrosion issues have been a major concern. Less than two years after start-up, stress corrosion cracking occurred on the stainless steel tubing of the steam generator of the prototype for the Nautilus in USA (1953);more recently, in 2022, several French Pressurized Water Reactors were shut down due to stress corrosion cracking of stainless steels pipes in a safety injection circuit. We propose to underline the complex corrosion mechanisms linked to the nuclear reactor environments (high temperature and high-pressure water environments) and to present briefly the three main corrosion phenomena occurring in Light Water Reactors (LWRs), after a short overview of the LWR materials: (i) general corrosion of zirconium cladding which limits the life-time of fuel elements to generally 3 cycles;(ii) flow-accelerated corrosion (FAC) of carbon steel components, which is the only corrosion phenomenon that has led to several deaths in LWRs;(iii) stress corrosion cracking (SCC) of nickel base alloys ("the Coriou effect") and of stainless steels including irradiation-assisted stress corrosion cracking;SCC of nickel base alloys has led to the replacement of major components like steam generators or pressurized vessel heads. Finally, the corrosion future will be discussed as LWRs are extending their period of operation up to 60 / 80 years, and even more.

Vehicle localization is one of the key technical factors for autonomous vehicles. It requires high accuracy, precision, and robustness towards various road conditions. Popular localization methods include global navigation satellite system (GNSS) and visual methods, but their accuracy can degrade in some conditions. This work proposes to use the environmental magnetic field (EMF) for localization to complement the shortcomings of existing methods. EMF is a combination of the Earth's geomagnetic field and magnetic field induced by man-made objects. It has local fluctuations that can be paired with coordinate positions and is time-invariant within a practical timescale. Past works considering the localization of road vehicles had few problems when applying them to the localization of autonomous vehicles. This work overcomes the problems in the existing method by creating a two-dimensional magnetic field map using Gaussian Process regression, using magnetic markers to enhance EMF fluctuations, and utilizing the Monte Carlo localization algorithm. The proposed method was validated through actual vehicle tests, and its robustness towards other vehicles was examined.

Drilling is the most common operation in the manufacture of machined parts. The complexity of this process depends on the number of holes to be machined which can reach hundreds or even thousands for certain parts. Also, the geometrical distribution of holes may or may not be regular, on a single plane or on several. Therefore, optimizing tool paths in multi-hole drilling operations can reduce time, cost, and energy consumption. Hence, several optimization methods were used to solve this issue. The objective of this research is to prove the performance of the novel optimization concept Dhouib-Matrix (DM) to find the shortest drilling tool path and thus improve productivity. In this vein, DM and its derivatives such as ABC-DM-TSP1, DM3, and A-DM3 have been applied to several case studies of the regular rectangular and circular array of holes. To evaluate the performance of DM, a comparative study with several optimization algorithms commonly used in the literature is conducted in this article. To this end, data set from 13 case studies have been experimented to compare the three derivatives of DM and eleven well-known optimization methods, mainly genetic algorithm, ant colony optimization, artificial bee colony, etc. Computational results indicate that the derivatives of DM outperform all studied competing metaheuristics, and yielded in some cases improvements exceeding 100% in tool path length.

Purpose - Scrum is a framework born in the software development industry and has recently been used in other organizations and departments. This research assesses how the scrum framework has been applied for continuous improvement and innovation in fields other than the Information Technology (IT) industry or department. Study Design/Methodology/Approach - A Systematic Review of the Literature methodology was developed using two databases (ProQuest and Scopus). From an initial set of 2,900 publications, 395 articles passed the exclusion criteria and were included in this research. Information such as scrum area or field application, authors' name, authors' affiliation, publication year, and journal name were collected and used to conduct several bibliometric analyses. Findings - Results indicated that scrum can be used for continuous improvement and innovation in fields other than the IT industry or department. Scrum is mainly applied to change a process completely to address a problem or to update a process to improve indicators in different industrial sectors, such as medical, automotive, educational, and construction. Originality - Scrum is a recent framework that offers considerable potential for future research, and this paper highlights the fields in which it can be specialized. This investigation proves that scrum is highly flexible and guarantees success and improvement in most cases.

As an intermediary step to enable solving the facility layout problem with reinforcement learning (RL), this paper presents an algorithm to automatically derive a path network from a given factory layout. It is represented as a graph with additional measures like pathwidth, segment length and segment orientation annotated as edge properties. The information can be utilized in subsequent processing steps to allow programmatic evaluation of the quality of generated layouts to aid in reward calculation for reinforcement learning. This is necessary since the material flow as a widely used evaluation criterion for algorithms solving the layout problem is not expressing the factory design goals clearly enough for a RL agent to learn. Material flow is typically computed based on transport costs and transport distance, which is abstracted as Euclidean distance between centre points of workstations. Using the path network derived by the presented algorithm enables a calculation of transport distances closer to the true distances travelled in the factory, thus enabling a more accurate reward signal.

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) systems under short headway configurations have been found to have a potentially detrimental impact on the transport network due to the string instability effect. Such phenomenon results in traffic perturbations amplification downstream causing increasing fuel consumption and posing safety threats. However, recent findings summarized in this paper show how even the simpler platoon stability might not be attained with current ACC-equipped vehicles raising additional concerns regarding their unregulated operation. In fact, as part of a recent campaign involving state-of-the-art assisted vehicles, an ACC displayed a low-frequency oscillatory behavior around the equilibrium speed. This work, by leveraging a mixed simulation/empirical approach, uncovers the harmful influences of such behavior. Ultimately, we found that despite the poor stability phenomenon might not be impactful for one vehicle, the overall repercussions on the transportation network can be dramatically detrimental raising the need for a regulatory framework for lower-level automation.

Nowadays, decision making is one of the most important and influential aspects of everyday life, and the application of metaheuristics and heuristics facilitates the process. Thus, this paper presents a performance analysis of the combination of constructive heuristics used to generate initial solutions for metaheuristics applied to scheduling problems. Namely, Nawaz, Enscore, and Ham Heuristic (NEH), Palmer Heuristic and Campbell, Dudek, and Smith Heuristic (CDS) with Cuckoo Search, Firefly Algorithm and Simulated Annealing. The aim is to compare the performance of these combinations to analyse the efficiency, effectiveness and robustness of each. All combinations were analysed in an in-depth computational study and then subjected to a statistical study to support an accurate analysis of the results. The results of the analysis show that the Firefly Algorithm associated with NEH, despite having a high runtime, performs better than the other combinations. However, the best effectiveness-efficiency ratio corresponds to SA-Palmer and SA-CDS.

In recent years, a circular economy model has been established to promote sustainability. The model supports a service-oriented approach where leasing-based strategies can be applied to part and component use (multiple use) and recovery and rearrangement. Product leasing can recreate value in each cycle for both the lessor (i.e., remanufacturer) and the lessee (i.e., consumer). Nevertheless, there is not a clear vision/perspective about the effectiveness in sustainability of a leasing-based model in terms of a product's environmental impact. Furthermore, the benefits generated by the leasing contract should be balanced between the involved agents. In this work, the authors introduce the concept of remanu-leasing, proposed as the optimal configuration of a leasing contract aimed at balancing and maximising lessor and lessee interests while minimising the product's environmental impact.
