Purpose - Scrum is a framework born in the software development industry and has recently been used in other organizations and departments. This research assesses how the scrum framework has been applied for continuous improvement and innovation in fields other than the Information Technology (IT) industry or department. Study Design/Methodology/Approach - A Systematic Review of the Literature methodology was developed using two databases (ProQuest and Scopus). From an initial set of 2,900 publications, 395 articles passed the exclusion criteria and were included in this research. Information such as scrum area or field application, authors' name, authors' affiliation, publication year, and journal name were collected and used to conduct several bibliometric analyses. Findings - Results indicated that scrum can be used for continuous improvement and innovation in fields other than the IT industry or department. Scrum is mainly applied to change a process completely to address a problem or to update a process to improve indicators in different industrial sectors, such as medical, automotive, educational, and construction. Originality - Scrum is a recent framework that offers considerable potential for future research, and this paper highlights the fields in which it can be specialized. This investigation proves that scrum is highly flexible and guarantees success and improvement in most cases.

The advancement of metal forming techniques and procedures has been notably impacted by the integration of state-of-the-art tools, specifically within the extensive realm of FE simulations for numerical analysis. Obtaining precise numerical representations of material behavior throughout the forming process is crucial to ensure the reliability and excellence of the resultant outcomes. It is imperative to precisely characterize and determine the material attributes under examination and subsequently translate them into numerical material models. The development of steel matrix composite with TiB2 reinforcement requires a thorough insight of how they respond to loading conditions variation. This comprehension is essential for their mechanical characteristics modeling and their malleability prediction. This work unveils the inaugural application of an elasto-plastic material with a 12% ceramic reinforcement volume ratio, undergoing a Deep-drawing operation. The numerical simulation is conducted using Abaqus/Standard through the UMAT subroutine. The aim is to estimate the influence of specific procedural variables, namely the space between the die and the punch, the initial blank thickness, and the friction coefficient between the workpiece and the forming tool, to comprehend the deformation mechanics and the consequent influence of procedural variables. This analysis offers valuable insights into how these three procedural variables can be manipulated to improve the produced component quality and achieve enhanced malleability throughout the Deep-drawing operation.

This paper introduces a simplified numerical approach to simulate induction heating, with the aim to be applied in modern induction cooking methods. This novel method combines the Biot-Savart law and the Coulomb-gauged potential equations in frequency domain, so that both eddy currents and heat sources can be calculated for ferromagnetic materials in alternating magnetic fields. Validation of the method consisted of three different numerical tests with different coil arrangements and frequencies, which showcased the robustness of the method, offering future insights for efficient and versatile cooking appliance design. These tests provided the expected maximum temperature according to the industry standards.

Abo Akademi University (AAU) is researching a passive radiative cooling (PRC) skylight window prototype utilizing greenhouse gases (GHGs) that interact strongly with thermal radiation. The first prototype achieved 100 W/m(2) passive cooling using two ZnS windows, one at the bottom and one at the top, both transparent to long-wave (LW) infrared, and a central window. The aim of this ongoing work is to improve the skylight design by utilizing computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software (Ansys Fluent). The objective of this design improvement is to eliminate the usage of central window used in the earlier design. In this improved design, sections of ZnS glass are positioned symmetrically, at the top and at the bottom. The remaining window is composed of conventional window glass, while the side walls are made of wood. Another objective entails using various greenhouse gases, such as CO2 and NH3, inside the skylight and subsequently calculating the transmittive radiative fluxes within the atmospheric window (814 mu m) wavelength range, followed by a comparative analysis with using air. Thus far, the radiative heat fluxes achieved with the new skylight design are as follows: 85.5 W/m(2) when CO2 is used as the participating medium, 83.0 W/m(2) with air, and 88.5 W/m(2) when NH3 is used. Additionally, temperatures of the ZnS Cleartran glasses give a calculated lowering of approximately 3 to 4 degrees C in comparison to the ambient temperature. The ultimate aim is to develop a transparent PRC skylight with a net cooling capacity >> 100 W/m(2) without moving parts also during daytime.

The present article deals with the temporal linear stability analysis of plane Couette flow (PCF) in a horizontal fluid layer of depth d that overlies a porous layer of depth d(m). The maintenance of constant temperature difference between the upper and lower plates (T-L > T-U) along with the uniform movement of the upper plate with velocity U (in other words, Couette flow) introduces the mixed convection in the system. The Darcy-Brinkman model governs the flow of the Newtonian and incompressible fluid in the highly porous layer. The Chebyshev spectral collocation method aids in solving the generalized eigenvalue problem, which in turn helps to analyse the impact of the depth ratio ((d) over cap), the Reynolds number (Re) and the Prandlt number (Pr) on the instability of the system. The fluid overlying porous geometry introduces more than a single lobe along the neutral stability curves plotted for porous Rayleigh number (Ra-m) versus porous wavenumber (a(m)), which gives rise to the unimodal and bimodal nature along the curves. The porous (fluid) mode correlates with the lobe of neutral curves with low (high) oscillatory frequency and causes instability therein. Consideration of two different values of porosity (phi) 0.3 and 0.78 for the Darcy and Darcy-Brinkman model assist to compare the stability results between the two models. The analysis indicates substantial differences between the models in terms of early/later appearance of instability as well as the modal behavior of the neutral stability curves.

Parametrized design is a desired way of working when building 3D models. A well designed product will come with time, cost advantages and avoiding errors as advantages. These kind of designs are usually used on platform products, but there are also useful on any project. Parametrized design is based on parameters organization and relations. The actual paper contains some applications of the parametrization usage in Catia software in order to show the possibility of obtaining different product designs using a generic model. The key of a well-built 3D model is to be well organized, to respect the linkage rules and to think about all fail and need possibilities. The designer must consider all the issues that the end user may face and come with solutions for any of it. The parameters of the 3D model can control a lot of things as: relations between each others, activity (of feature, Boolean operation, component), material, information messages (give instructions or details related to the model). Mathematical operations and conditions can be used to control the 3d model. There must be also considered the best place to create the parameters and relations (assembly, skeleton part, component).

Silicon is one of the most commonly used semiconductor materials. However, working with silicon presents challenges due to its high brittleness and hardness. Drilling, milling, dicing, and surface treatment require careful handling. Fortunately, laser processing technology offers a solution. With its high energy density and smaller heat-affected zone, laser processing is well-suited for working with silicon materials. This paper reviews the interaction mechanism between laser and silicon material and its applications. The surface and subsurface treatments are introduced. The surface roughness, microstructure, residual stress, and electrical properties of silicon material after laser microprocessing are investigated. Based on the current research status, we summarize some of the challenges that must be overcome to allow a wider application of laser in the new generation of semiconductor materials.

We present an approach for predictive braking of a four-wheeled vehicle on a nonplanar road. Our main contribution is a methodology to consider friction and road contact safety on general smooth road geometry. We use this to develop an active safety system to preemptively reduce vehicle speed for upcoming road geometry, such as off-camber turns. Our system may be used for human-driven or autonomous vehicles and we demonstrate it with a simulated ADAS scenario. We show that loss of control due to driver error on nonplanar roads can be mitigated by our approach.

The accelerating growth of the population and the constant development of technology created a high energy demand. However, these involved factors increased energy consumption, therefore increasing the greenhouse effect, and triggering atmospheric pollutants. Thus, creating demand for a more sustainable and cleaner energy source, the role of nuclear energy emerged. The nuclear industry faced challenges revolving around waste management, where it needed advanced technology and detailed plans to dispose of the radioactive waste safely. This project investigates the geology of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to site the first Deep Geological Repository (DGR). The geology of the kingdom looks promising for such big-scale projects. Using the GIS approach, it was found that the geology of the southern side of the kingdom seemed suitable for a DGR that centers within the Empty Quarter. The site meets the requirements of a DGR, such as rare possibilities of earthquakes, floods, stability, depth ranging up to 1000 m, and sedimentary geological formations. This project contributes to the Saudi nuclear power program for the radioactive waste generated from research and industrial nuclear reactors following the 2030 vision to use nuclear and renewable energy resources.

The present paper provides a synthesis of selected experimental database from national and international (OECD/NEA) THAI projects focused on containment safety of LWRs. Since 2000, more than 200 experiments have been conducted in 60 m(3) THAI and 80 m(3) THAI+ (extension of THAI in 2015) covering various aspects of containment safety, like thermal-hydraulics, water hydrodynamics, hydrogen risk and fission products distribution behaviour. THAI experimental research also covers investigations related to performance behaviour of mitigation systems employed in lightwater reactor containments, e.g. BWR-suppression pool, passive autocatalytic recombiner, spray. The experimental database facilitating phenomenological insights as well as assessment and validation of safety analyses codes towards mitigation, and management of severe accidents is highlighted with emphases on the employed boundary conditions. Finally, re-orientation of THAI experimental research in the frame of future National THAI and OECD/NEA THEMIS follow-up projects is briefly discussed with emphasis on passive safety systems related investigations including those relevant for water cooled SMRs.
