Indian Himalayan region spans across 10 different administrative states in the country and constitutes a significant portion of the Indian subcontinent. An ever-increasing population and scarcity of flat lands for construction in the hilly region forces construction of buildings on the sloping terrain with foundations constructed at different levels. These buildings are inherently vulnerable to earthquakes due to the horizontal and vertical irregularities that are extremely hard to avoid because of the nature of the terrain. Compounding on that fact, a large population of buildings in the region have been constructed without following the design provisions of earthquake resistant design and ductile detailing in IS 1893 [5] and IS 13920 [6] respectively. Consequences of such design and construction practices have shown to have devastating consequences in recent earthquakes such as the 2011 Sikkim earthquake and 2015 Nepal earthquake. The paper aims to assess the combined effect of seismic design provisions of Indian Standards on the seismic response of a set of Un-Reinforced Masonry (URM) infilled RC Step-Back building on hill. A 3D analytical model with interaction of frame and infill actions has been taken into account by diagonal strut elements alongside the frame elements. Nonlinear analyses have been performed for realistic assessment of key parameters influencing seismic performance of such buildings.

The free market means that companies have to be very vigilant and react quickly to changes. Growing competition can pose a threat to a company's operations, which is why companies must constantly make sure that products meet market expectations while maintaining appropriate functional and quality requirements at the right price. It is therefore very important to supervise production processes and improve them. The production capacity and economic effects of industrial enterprises depend to a large extent on the technology used, organization and management. In terms of means of production, broadly understood automation comes to the rescue, in which robotization is becoming more and more important. The article presents the results of research on the use of vision systems and manipulators in industry 4.0. A robotic system consisting of a robot, a vision system and a feeder was selected and tested to pick up delicate products and put them into appropriate containers. Adding the robot to the production line will allow, in addition to automatic packaging of products, to monitor the number of manufactured product packages per a given unit of work shift time on an ongoing basis. The robot program additionally allows you to view statistics about the takt.

Additive manufacturing is one of the growing trends in manufacturing processes. This technology enables the creation of complex forms and geometries that were previously impossible or too challenging to achieve with existing technologies. The consideration for the characteristics of the manufacturing process, the objective of this work is to numerically simulate the mechanical properties of FDM components using a CAD model. We simulated the FDM process using a numerical environment and CAE software, and then employed the finite elements technique. In truth, additive manufacturing (FDM) process simulations have shown very positive outcomes on a number of fronts. For instance, their mechanical characteristics make them suitable for use in the design of industrial products. Furthermore, FDM process simulations can provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of the production process, such as stress levels and Elastic modulus. Indeed, FDM process simulations can also optimize the design and production process, reducing cost and time.

Vibration transmitted to a car body through the wheelset, bogie and suspension system is one of the main sources generating interior noise for a highspeed train. In order to derive measures for controlling train interior noise, it is necessary to determine the high-frequency (up to about 1000 Hz) operational forces in the suspension/bogie system and to quantify vibration powers input for each force to the car body. These operational forces can be estimated if sufficient measured vibration data of the bogie frame are available. However, since the number of the forces is large, and the number of sensors which can be installed is limited, measured vibration data are often insufficient to determine the forces and the associated vibration powers. To overcome this difficulty, an approach making use of response reconstruction is developed in this paper. Firstly, a time-domain response reconstruction method based on empirical wavelet transform is applied so that, although measurement is performed for a limited number of locations, responses of the frame at other locations can be reconstructed, giving sufficient response data for force identification. Secondly, with the measured and reconstructed responses, forces are identified using regularization techniques developed for inverse problems. Finally, a power-transfer path analysis is attempted to rank the vibration transmission paths between the bogie system and the car body.

While race car drivers speak often on racing lines, data reveals they do not follow consistent paths lap over lap. Furthermore, autonomous racing controllers designed to track optimal paths fail to keep pace with the best professional drivers. In this paper, we assess the importance of the racing line from an optimization perspective by evaluating its dynamic sensitivity to lateral perturbations. After applying the method to the Laguna Seca Raceway, we find that there is in fact a family of trajectories that are significantly different in path but similar in lap time. This finding is consistent with prior experimental work and indicates that extracting the peak dynamic performance from a vehicle may require reasoning through this whole family of solutions-instead of tracking a single line-to operate the vehicle at its true limits.

The interiors of ultra-compact electric vehicles (EVs) can be uncomfortable owing to the noise caused by the road and wind. To address this issue, we propose an active noise control (ANC) system that uses a giant magnetostrictive actuator. The proposed system allows estimating ride comfort by analyzing the biological information of passengers and controlling the interior acoustic environment. The proposed ANC system employs wall-surface vibrations generated by a giant magnetostrictive actuator. We analytically investigated the thrust characteristics of giant magnetostrictive materials deformed by a magnetic field through electromagnetic field analysis. The results showed that the effect of thrust on frequency changes depends on the characteristics of the giant magnetostrictive material.

Ground-borne vibrations resulting from construction activity or road traffic may set vibrations in buildings. The effects of these induced vibrations on buildings may range from no effect to minor cosmetic damage to serious damage, depending on factors such as the amplitude and time-dependence of the vibration, the building structure and the type of soil it rests on, and the duration of exposure. Various codes and standards from various countries set recommendations regarding the exposure of buildings to soil-induced vibrations with emphasis on the characteristics of the vibration signals for limiting their effects on the building structure and for not reducing the comfort of their tenants. These facts are shortly reviewed in this presentation in conjunction with the effects of vibrations on the human body.

The current paper aims to fill this gap through case-based research, understanding from empirical data the application of Lean 4.0 in four UK companies. The findings showed that Lean 4.0 represents an excellent strategy to improve the manufacturing systems' performance, mainly productivity, flexibility, real-time data accessibility, and quality control. Also, itwas possible to confirm that financial resources, adversity to change, and process complexity are the main barriers to Lean 4.0.

To enhance internal combustion engine performance, this study focuses on developing an electric valve drive system utilizing linear actuators for intake and exhaust valve control. The linear actuator, comprising a movable coil and a fixed permanent magnet, operates based on the principle of the Lorentz force. Unlike traditional magnetic circuits, this actuator employs five permanent magnets with different magnetization directions to concentrate the flux on the coil. In this study, multiple models with varying ratios of these permanent magnets were created and analyzed using finite element analysis conducted with the JMAG software to investigate the thrust characteristics during the reciprocating motion of the actuator. The vector plot of the magnetic flux density shows that the magnetic circuit is predominantly composed of permanent magnets. The average thrust at a 10 mm displacement was approximately 107 N in the largest model. Future studies will aim to design actuators with increased thrust capabilities.

Product-Service System (PSS) is an innovative concept which combines products and services into comprehensive solutions that meet customer requirements. It gives the opportunity to increase the competitiveness and the development of the producers' offer and it is conducive to environmental protection. PSS theory and practice do not provide solutions that can be used in parking furniture. The aim of the paper is to develop the PSS for new type of parking furniture - garage boxes. The presented example is a part of the research on the new offer of manufacturing company. The developed PSS is supported by the real needs of people living in the blocks of flats and having their own parking spaces. It eliminates the problem of the lack of storage rooms and gives the possibility of free storage of necessary things. The research and the development of PSS was carried out in the form of industrial workshops carried out at the manufacturer's, attended by current and potential users of the garage boxes.
