Reinforced concrete (RC) structures are designed for a particular designed life in which the structure functions satisfactorily in terms of serviceability mainly. The RC structures often undergo damage/deterioration of material either concrete or rebars. The RC structures in the coastal areas which are very near to the sea or saline environment often experience early deterioration of structural elements way early than that of structures away from the sea. This means the sea environment is accelerating the deterioration process predominantly chloride-induced deterioration in coastal areas. In addition to this phenomenon, climate change impact is becoming more in the past few decades. Climate change is actually the change/rise in atmospheric parameters like temperature, CO2 and relative humidity that are resulting in the deterioration processes. This is creating long-term impacts on the RC berthing structures that are designed for more than 50 years of service life. Few case studies were conducted on several berthing structures in different regions to understand this phenomenon on the Indian coast. The results are conveying that the structures having provided sufficient concrete cover are in very good condition (i.e., no sign of corrosion, cracks and carbonation) even after reaching the design service life;whereas, the structures that were not provided sufficient cover and maintenance have lost considerable service life of more than 6-10 years. It is also said in the literature that the service life can be prolonged with proper maintenance like frequent checks and immediately addressing the structural problems arised.

Dampers have been used in mechanical and industrial applications to stabilize systems by minimizing excessive vibration. Damping applications adopt different techniques to be effective across a wide range of dynamic responses. This paper investigates applying a hybrid damping approach for low-medium frequencies by utilizing a magnetorheological piezoelectric (MREP) structure. The magnetorheological elastomer (MRE) material provides excellent damping characteristics that can be varied by an induced magnetic field. At the same time, the piezoelectric actuators can passively and actively shunt large deformations with changing potential difference. The MREP damper studied was made from a circular ceramic piezoelectric material inside a cylindrical MRE. The resulting stiffness of the overall structure increased by up to 16% compared to conventional MRE carried out on ANSYS static structural analysis.

Powerful tools for improving the layer thickness distribution in electroplating are available through simulation techniques for calculating the electric field. To get the best out of these simulation technologies, a good knowledge of the possibilities of simulation tools, the needed requirements as well as typical, proven workflows are important. This paper uses an industrial case study to cover, present and discuss the above-mentioned points as well as the used approach used and the achieved results. Both the individual results achieved and the improved understanding of the process noticeably improve the efficiency in electroplating.

The chemical industry is considered indispensable for improving both the economy and the well-being of the population in many countries. However, despite making significant contributions to the global economy and society's welfare, the chemical industry also has adverse effects on the environment and human health and safety. To minimize its negative impacts and ensure a sustainable future, it is critical to prioritize sustainable production in the chemical industry. It is therefore imperative to comprehend the consequences of safety on sustainable production and the specific mechanisms through which safety can influence sustainable production performance. This paper reports an ongoing study to scrutinize the relationship between safety performance and sustainable production performance. The study comprises a systematic literature review to produce an initial theoretical framework and two phases of data collection to validate the initial theoretical framework. The first phase has been done, providing improvements for the framework, which will be further analyzed in the second phase.

The article presents the developed heuristic-based scheduling algorithm dedicated for MTO-MTS hybrid production. The developed algorithm allows to maximize the machines load by production tasks taking into account economic and organizational conditions such as the materials availability, costs of storage, the value of frozen funds and the probability of selling or using a given part in the production process while meeting deadlines for the implementation of production tasks resulting from customer orders. In order to verify the proposed solution, a number of experiments were carried out, both using real data from a manufacturing company from the automotive industry as well as simulation data. The obtained results confirmed the thesis, and based on the experiments, conclusions were drawn about the effectiveness of the proposed method.

The drillstring vibration response is subject to uncertainty due to the operating speed, manufacturing tolerance and downhole conditions. A drillstring-borehole contact exhibits complicated dynamic behaviour due to its nonlinear nature. The complexity in the drillstring vibration is due to the drillstring-borehole interactions, which induce nonlinearities due to friction and impact. The objective of the study is to analyse the drillstring-borehole interaction experimentally. A conceptual model of a system of the drillstring is developed, consisting of a flexible rotating shaft with two discs supported on roller bearings. The drillstring-borehole interaction is modelled using a localised contact element. A run-up analysis was conducted to determine critical speeds, wherein a high whirling response is produced. An experimental uncertainty study is carried out by varying critical system parameters, such as the phase angles of the unbalanced masses attached to the disc and the coefficient of friction of the contact element. The response is captured using an accelerometer at the bearing location. The maximum response was analysed at the critical speed of the rotor, wherein a high response is expected. A probability density function was obtained for the maximum response at the bearing location. The results from the experimental study indicate that the response is sensitive to the modal interaction of the interacting whirling modes. Future work will include the development of a theoretical model of the system using the stochastic finite element method covering a wider range of parameter space.

Nowadays, the importance of social media and its influence on customers for customer behavior transformation has been highlighted. This has introduced the importance of analyzing the impact of social media on Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) phases and how to use it for more efficient product development cycles. The paper has shown through the literature review, the lack of contributions for benefiting from the potentials of social media platforms for PLM refinement. Especially, the capabilities of social media analytics for extracting customers' emotions and perceptions are neglected. Moreover, the paper has highlighted the importance of perceptive quality and has and investigated it with a focus on the Omnichannel concept. Customer satisfaction and perceptual quality as two crucial factors which directly can be influenced by social media platforms have been considered. Using the system dynamics approach, a cause-and-effect model for demonstrating the relations and effects of these factors in product lifecycle management frameworks has been developed. Also, a social media data analytics model has been developed to formulate customer satisfaction and perceptual quality. The approach applies sentiment natural language processing and analysis to provide a basis for relating the mentioned factors. The findings have provided insights for embedding social media analytics in PLM analytical frameworks.

Based on the self-excited vibration theory of mode coupling, the disc brake of trains is analyzed and studied as a whole, and a simplified model of brake disc and brake pad is established. By using ABAQUS complex eigenvalue analysis method, the relationship between system friction coefficient, braking speed, pressure, elastic modulus and contact rigidity is comprehensively considered and the friction noise of disc brake system is predicted by finite element method. The simulation results show that brake scream is more likely to occur at high friction coefficient, low speed and high pressure. Changing the elastic modulus and contact stiffness of brake disc will also affect the generation of brake scream, but there is no specific law, which depends on the coupling of system modes. It can be seen that the theoretical simulation of self-excited vibration based on mode coupling can be used to carry out cooperative analysis and study considering the matching of parameters. This idea provides a design direction for reducing braking noise.

Robot-based manufacturing cells exhibit strong capability in performing high customizable working cycles involving operations like machining, assembly, painting, welding and gluing. Designing and optimizing such systems require a holistic approach across domains like device layout, logical connections, control systems, and tasks. The AutomationML file format (AML) within the Reference Architectural Model Industrie (RAMI 4.0) framework enhances interconnection and interoperability among engineering tools but lacks established practices. This paper introduces AML for representing flexible manufacturing cells within the Product-Process-Resource paradigm. AML serves as a comprehensive representation of equipment, processed products, and manufacturing operations, aiding design, configuration, virtual simulation, and optimization before physical implementation. A software tool for robotic systems simulation and programming, i.e. RoboDK, is employed to generate customizable virtual prototypes based on AML content for streamlined simulation and assessment. The same AML file facilitates code transfer to physical cell control units. Demonstrated on a robotic deburring cell, this approach highlights AML's efficacy in data representation between virtual and physical environments, paving the way for digital twin mapping and enhanced manufacturing integration.

The effect of boundary conditions over the predicted risk of airborne infection by means of coupling Well's hypothesis with high resolution Large Eddy Simulations is explored. Results are compared with the analytical Wells-Riley model and spatial risk inhomogeneities and flow patterns are discussed. This study contributes to two currently almost unexplored aspects of indoor contaminant distribution: the sensitivity to BC and the extent of the applicability of the perfect mix hypothesis. Results show them both to be significant.
