In this article, the vibration troubleshooting steps of a 10 MW reciprocating Hydrogen compressor related to an oil refinery have been done. In this project, by carefully examining the various equipment used in the relevant unit, after studying and familiarizing with the history of the installation and operation of the compressor, how its various parts work, including the foundation, turbine, gearbox, coupling, shafts, compressor, pulsation dampener, piping and finally the foundation was examined, separately. In these studies, investigations such as vibration level analysis, frequency domain analysis, phase difference analysis, modal analysis, compressor modeling in working conditions, as well as design conditions and analysis of gas input to the compressor have been implemented. The evidences were collected and prioritized according to their level of importance. Finally, the main factor identified is the impermissible flexibility of the foundation of the turbine driving the compressor. The foundation is modified after the present project and the problem is solved, successfully.

The bearing's relevance, technical uses are clear in many applications. It is subjected to various types of loading. The rolling bearing may be cracked because of fatigue loading. The presence of a crack causes a change in the physical properties of a bearing and thus reducing the stiffness of the rolling bearing, where the invisible natural frequencies are being reduced. The essential signatures of vibration of bearing analysis are crack depth and location. The current study used Finite Element Analysis (FEA), experiments data and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) technology to create methodologies for fracture detection of a solitary crack in a rolling bearing. Different crack location effects are taken into account, and the results are compared to different rolling bearing crack depths. Then PSO algorithm has been developed using the first three relative natural frequencies taken from FE analysis and experiments data. For comparative study, both Standard PSO and APSO are used for crack diagnosis of the bearing. The feasibility of proposed PSO techniques is compared through error analysis. In the research paper, the objective has been related to the design of a Particle swarm optimization technique for more accuracy and less time consumption to the prediction of crack location and crack depth in cracked bearing.

The selection of appropriate equipment maintenance strategies is essential for avoiding accidents and unnecessary operating costs in companies. This paper aims to propose a methodology which makes use of Decision-Making Grids (DMGs) for classifying and prioritizing the manufacturing assets according to their criticality and, accordingly, selecting the most appropriate maintenance strategy for the analyzed assets components. The ability to support the assignment of maintenance strategies at the component level distinguishes the proposed methodology from the related studies found in the literature, as they define a unique type of strategy for the equipment as a whole or strategies focused on its functional failures. The assets classification and prioritization is performed considering the failure impact and quantitative criteria related to their maintenance history. Therefore, the methodology can also be used as a performance measurement tool for identifying the need of redefining the maintenance plan of specific assets or implementing equipment improvement initiatives. The methodology was successfully applied in a case study performed in a company that produces wood-based panels. Its application enabled to assign maintenance strategies to the six components with higher frequency of replacement of one safety critical equipment in a quick manner. The case study has also shown that the effort and resources required for applying the methodology are low, since it uses mainly data recorded by the current management systems.

This paper presents an application of computational simulation to a production problem on unrelated parallel machines and dependent setup times, aiming at the reduction of jobs' total processing time (makespan). The scenarios studied by Rabadi, et al. (2014) were used, along with the SIMIO simulation software, to model and conduct experiments to study the impact of a set of sequencing rules. Based on the computational study carried out, it was possible to realize that simulation is a powerful tool to support scheduling processes, as it allows to reach generally good results in a reasonable time to properly support decision-making in the resolution of production problems. These problems are highly complex and dynamically changing in nature, being usually hard to solve. Thus, simulation tools are of particular interest in this field. Moreover, as these problems are characterized by a more or less extensible set of factors, parameters and conditions, it continues to be of primer importance to further explore its resolutions, namely based on simulation tools. This study relies on the base for being used in industrial practice in the context of iFixturing Project.

Floating slab tracks have been widely adopted in rail transit viaducts to reduce the bridge vibration and structure-borne noise. To calculate the vibration of the coupled track-bridge systems, both time-domain and frequency-domain methods can be applied although their relative performance is not very clear. This study aims to compare the two methods and then provide some guidelines in choosing the appropriate method in the vibration prediction. The principle and methodology of the two calculation methods are firstly introduced, and the models for the train, track and bridge are developed using the same parameters. Comparison is made of the vibration of bridge and floating slab obtained from the two methods with different train speeds. It is found that the results from the two methods show good consistency in the frequency region above 20 Hz. It is shown that the results from different loading cases should be averaged with care when the frequency domain method is adopted. When using irregularity measured on site, the simulated vibration of floating slab and bridge from the two methods match well with the experimental results.

Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) is an iterative, time- and resource-intensive process involving high computational costs and domain expertise. The exponentially large CAM configuration space is a major hurdle in speeding up the CAM iteration process. Existing methods fail to capture the complex dependency on CAM parameters. We address this challenge by proposing a new element for the engineer's design workflow based on an explainable artificial intelligence method. Using Neural-Additive Models (NAMs), we create a semi-analytic model that improves guided search through the configuration space and reduces convergence time to an optimal CAM parameter set. NAMs allow us to visualize individual parameter contributions and trivially compute their sensitivity. We demonstrate the integration of this new element into the CAM design process of a blade-integrated disk (blisk). By visualizing the learned parameter contributions, we successfully leverage NAMs to model the dependency on CAM parameters.

In the present study, the thermodynamic balances and computational code of a cascade vapor compression cycle with an ejector are developed to reach a refrigeration temperature of - 50 degrees C. The working fluids proposed for analysis are R744 (carbon dioxide, CO2), R707 (ammonia, NH3), R600a (Isobutane, (H3C)- CHCH3 - CH3), and R290 (propane, CH3 - CH2 - CH3) given the low values of ozone depletion potential (ODP) and global warming potential (GWP). The first and second laws of thermodynamics are used to evaluate the efficiency and exergy destruction of the system keeping CO2 in the low-temperature cycle and proposing the use of an ejector. The pair of working fluids R600a/R744 is outlined with the highest efficiency potential (COP = 7.63), lowest exergy destruction (3.3307 kW), and a good prospect for future development.

This paper presents a novel Regenerative Brake Blending (RBB) strategy for an electric hypercar, framing it as a multi-objective problem. These include thermal and lifespan management of various components plus maximizing energy recovery. We begin by mathematically modelling each subsystem of the RBB layout. Then, we define an acausal offline optimal control problem to establish a benchmark solution;subsequently we propose a causal real-time control strategy inspired by the Equivalent Consumption Minimization Strategy (ECMS). The proposed real-time strategy shows a performance loss of 1.6% compared to the benchmark underscoring the efficacy of the proposed RBB strategy in maximizing energy recuperation while considering for brake temperatures.

This paper presents a project in the automotive company whose aim was to standardize processes inherent to the use of a project management tool. This tool was developed internally with the purpose of spreading throughout the organization a methodology based on their own philosophy of lean thinking. During a deep analysis of the current procedures, some problems were identified regarding the lack of adequate use of the tool and its potentialities for project management, due to its complexity, specificity, and lack of training by the project managers. This project's main goal was to ensure that all project managers in the logistics area use this tool in a standardized way. To accomplish this, a checklist, a training plan, work instructions and a responsibility matrix were developed. An assessment was conducted in three different projects to assess the impact of these solutions. This assessment was created by the company to evaluate the way that projects were managed according to the company's philosophy on a scale of 1 to 4 and is composed of some criteria. The results indicate an improvement in several of these criteria, consequently improving the level from 2 to 3, because of the implementation of standardized procedures for the use of the tool and taking advantage of all its potentialities for project management.

Additive Manufacturing offers flexibility in customizing, designing, minimizing waste, faster prototyping and manufacturing complex profiles. The process parameters play a crucial role in the mechanical strength of the 3D printed product. The present research aims to investigate the impact of various 3D printing process settings on the hardness of PLA copper composite. The results of selecting terms with significant effects on the response show that all the factors studied present such effects. Indeed, the analysis of the final screening plans showed that the most influential factors are the filling density and the thickness of the layer for the Flat and Edge positions. The printing speed influences the hardness of the samples in its quadratic form while it itself has no influence. All the factors adopted are influential in their different forms.
