The accuracy of turbulent boiling numerical models is essential inCFD studies. This paper performs simulations based on theVOF model under the OpenFOAM environment, coupled with Lee's phase change model, to study the effect of the mass transfer time parameter (r[s(-1)]) on the phase change in vertical and horizontal-serpentine ducts. Two different experimental configurations are used: vertical and horizontal-serpentine tubes. Different turbulence models, standard k-epsilon or k-omega(SST), have been adopted vis-a-vis the shape of the configurations and the related dynamic phenomena. Results show an acceptable consistency for all the treated cases. The first configuration, using the k-epsilon model, showed reasonably good agreement with experiments compared to other works of literature, with a mean relative error of the void fraction of about 25.7%. At the same time, 0.38% is obtained for the bulk temperature of the mixture at different locations from the inlet. The void fraction distributions for both configurations are coherent, especially for the second one, compared to the experimental visualisations. In this work, the best choice of the mass transfer time parameters for vertical tube and horizontal serpentine were r = 1000 and r = 0.1, respectively. An observed limitation of the OpenFOAM used solver - InterThermalPhaseChangeFoam - leads to the conclusion that conjugated heat transfer must be considered because phase change is problematic at the wall contact.

Diffuse interfaces are useful tools for simulating evolution of material phases, and they are fundamentally important part of the phase field method. Since, in solid state, different phases can have different elastic constants, it is important to be able to incorporate them into the numerical simulations. In current study, the theory of deformation of elastically inhomogeneous solid with diffuse interface approach and application of relatively simple numerical method for solving the problem are described. Deformation of a solid containing an elastical inhomogeneity is simulated for two cases for compression in two-dimensional plane strain condition: a harder inclusion and a softer inclusion.

In this paper, hybrid metaheuristic optimization algorithms are used for the dynamic synthesis of a flexible four bar mechanism. The design variables vector including, lengths, widths and thicknesses of the four bars, and the material characteristics' such as the Young modulus and material density, is identified based on the mechanism dynamic responses. Different dynamic responses are considered, such as the coupler and the follower mid-point transversal deflections and trajectories. A mono-objective and multi-objectives hybrid optimization synthesis combining PSO, DE and JAYA algorithms based on these responses taken separately and all together have been presented. The optimization efficiency has been proved through numerical simulations carried on MATLAB software.

The monitoring of road roughness is one of the first and most critical steps in road maintenance. Road networks need constant maintenance to function properly and avoid any hazardous accidents or blockage of the traffic flow. The International Organization of Standardization (ISO) developed the International Roughness Index (IRI) to unify road monitoring systems and to categorize roads based on their roughness levels. The ISO 8608 standard divides road roughness levels into eight different classifications ranging from best (Class A) to worst (Class H) roads. The road roughness profile of a certain road section could be measured by traditional equipment such as a dipstick profilometer, profilograph, or an automated road meter. However, these traditional methods are time-consuming and costly. Thus, this research proposes the use of dynamic vehicle accelerations of a moving regular car and artificial neural networks to estimate the road profile. This research also compares the accuracy and efficiency of using a full car (7 degrees of freedom) numerical model and a quarter-car (2 degrees of freedom) numerical model in training the neural network and estimating the road profile. These numerical models will be used to create a library of input data sets (vehicle accelerations) and output data sets (road roughness profiles) which will be used to train the artificial neural networks (ANNs).

This paper presents the results of the mechanical properties and structure of polymer blends modified by dicumyl peroxide (DP) manufactured based on end-of-life vehicle waste. The mixed plastic waste was separated by electrostatic separation. Four types of mixtures were prepared, i.e. waste not subjected to separation, a mixture after one, after two electrostatic separations, and a mixture after two electrostatic separations additionally electrified. To determine the possibility of applying a modifier, dicumyl peroxide was introduced into each mixture. The prepared materials were then subjected to heat pressing, from which standardized test samples were made to evaluate the quality of the produced blends. The mechanical properties were evaluated by static tensile testing, in which the tensile modulus, tensile strength, elongation at maximum strength, and elongation at break were determined. The homogeneity of the blends were evaluated based on the fracture surfaces using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results showed that it is possible to use dicumyl peroxide as an effective crosslinking agent for the mixture of polymeric waste from end-of-life vehicles. Subjecting the mixed polymer waste to a double separation process (M2) and introducing dicumyl peroxide into the mixture, provides an increase in strength properties, as well as obtaining the more homogeneous structure compared to the other mixtures tested.

Yaw resonances cause the rear-end of the vehicle to swing, which is related to the feeling of handling. As a basis for improving this motion, this paper considers the restoration of yaw resonance. The equilibrium position of the yaw resonance is the extension of the velocity vector at the "heading point," where the vehicle median line is perpendicular to the turning radius in a steady state turn. Toward this position, the center of percussion at the rear-end of the vehicle travels. This travel is the restoration of yaw. Observing the vehicle behavior from the earth-fixed coordinate system at the moment when the heading point changes direction of travel, the heading point and the center of percussion travel in their respective directions. Each motion continues for a distance from the rear wheel to the heading point to reach the equilibrium position. This continues time equals "yaw lead time constant." Therefore, when the yaw lead time constant is small, the vehicle is restored in a short time.

Surface mount technology (SMT) has been known as the trending technology in electronic packing manufacturing. Standard SMT production lines have 3 major processes: stencil screen printing, package pick and place mounting, and forced convection reflowing. There are inspections after each of the 3 processes. The Automatic Optical Inspection (AOI) machines are used after the mounting and reflowing processes, named by the sequence in the production line, pre-reflow and post-reflow AOI. One of the important performance matrices of the AOI is the offset, which indicates the distance from the actual chip location to the desired location (pad center). If the offset is greater than the threshold, the AOI will trigger the alarm and reject the product. During the reflow process, some components were detected as "not good" at pre-reflow AOI could result in a "good" offset at post-reflow AOI because of the self-alignment performance in the reflow process. These are the false calls of AOI defined in this study. To improve the throughput, the number of false calls needs to be inspected and reduced. In this study, a classification model is proposed to inspect the false calls from the solder paste inspection (SPI) and pre-reflow AOI after comparing the performance of multiple machine learning algorithms and analyzing 30,000 experimental data points collected from the production line. The resulting accuracy rate was found to be 89.3%. As a result, it was determined that the inspection data before the reflow process could be effectively used in detecting AOI false calls.

Demand Driven Material Requirements Planning (DDMRP) assumes that a production order is generated for replenishment when the inventory position, given by the net flow equation, is below a given level. Literature on this production planning and control system suggests prioritizing open orders on the shop floor based on the inventory buffer status. However, the performance of buffer-oriented priority dispatching largely remains unknown. Using discrete event simulation, this study suggests that buffer-oriented dispatching based on the net flow equation outperforms due date-oriented dispatching rules and first-come-first-served. The performance impact depends, however, on the reorder quantity associated with the production orders. These results have important implications for industrial practice.

Hydroplaning plays a crucial role in road safety. The water layer wedged between the tires and the road reduces the capability of the vehicle to respond to the driver's inputs. Factors like vehicle speed, water layer thickness, tread pattern, and tire wear affect hydroplaning onset. Based on the technical literature and experimental tests, the research developed a tire model to simulate hydroplaning effects. Scaling factors were added to the MFTyre model to reproduce the changes in cornering stiffness, relaxation length, friction coefficient, and motion resistance. Then, a control logic to counteract hydroplaning was designed and implemented on a 14-dof vehicle model. As last, the effectiveness of the control logic was assessed through a series of indoor tests on a dynamic driving simulator.

Digital sensing technologies are essential for realizing Industry 4.0, as they enhance productivity, assist with real-time decision-making, and provide flexibility and agility in manufacturing factories. However, implementing these technologies can be a significant challenge due to the need to consider various factors in manufacturing factories, such as heterogeneous equipment, fragmented knowledge, customization requirements, multiple alternative technologies, and the substantial costs involved in the trial-and-error process. A Knowledge Graph (KG) approach is proposed to streamline the implementation of the factory movement tracking system. The KG approach utilizes a knowledge representation reference model that integrates manufacturing objective, activity, resource, environment, factory movement, data, infrastructure, and decision support system. This reference model aids in classifying key phrases extracted from research abstracts and establishing knowledge relationships among them. A synthesized KG, created by analyzing thirty research abstracts, has correctly answered search queries about implementing the factory movement tracking system. This approach establishes a pathway for developing a software system to support movement tracking implementation through automatic interpretation, reasoning, and suggestions.
